High school track and field competitions are organized into divisions based on school enrollment size (D1 being largest, D4 smallest), with athletes competing in heats and advancing to finals where top finishers determine individual and team champions. The 800m race demonstrates how athletes use pacing strategies, with some running negative splits (faster second half) to achieve personal bests and competitive times.

She's going to take this group through at 688.

She was a Gold Coast runner up, but right now in that runnerup spot too, Gamboa of Western Christian Gamboa three out of 223 lifetime best a week ago and challenging the field to come get her and Morela. >> [music] >> So inside out here in lane one, Skyler Yost of Laguna Hills, Sarah Bella Stakeley of Orange Lutheran in this field here. She was seventh in the Trinity League. Trinity League having seven girls with five of them right here in this division 3 800 meters. Malia Newin of Pacifica division 3 prelims last week. Big nice effort there. 2163.
Mariah Hardman, senior out of J Sah. She was third in the Trinity League. She's gone 213. Maya Palawitz, the ninth grader J Sarah, you saw her earlier in the 1600 meters. She down at 2173 last month at Mount Sack. Chloe Elba, the stalwart of that J Serah program. She's gone 20986. She'll be off to UCLA in the fall. Number eight in California, Isabella Rooki, the twotime state meet qualifier here. Number seven in California representing your Belinda.
Reese Holly, she was your CIF champ in the 1600 meters. And the runner at third place there is Terrell of Monrovia.
So Terrell and Reblooski Rel going 21093 the twotime Rio league champ. She was fourth a year ago for making it the Masters. Reese Larley she was third a year ago. Reglooski was fifth a year ago. And Khloe Elbos was your runner up.
So that is Harmon of J Sarah again. J Sarah the overwhelming favorites to win the division three girls team title for fourth year in a row. But Reblooski of York Belinda right there on her outside along with Elbos and Palawitz and Terrell and Orange County party up front there with J Sah, one of the strongest middle distance programs in the United States of America. Like Roblooi right there trying to break up that monopoly up front. They come through. It's 644. 644 trying to go under 210 as Hardman leading the train right here. But Rabooi going along for the ride. Rooki really coming into her own here. 20945 seasonal best. But Elbas Elba also sub 210 209 lifetime best. But Reese Holly she comes in with the top credentials 448 earlier in the 16. Now Holly making a move on the outside. She has gone 208. But Terrell sitting there right in the back of this pack there.
Our sophomore from Monrovia looking to try to steal this one. But right now, Rooki on the rail with less than 200 looking to help off Elbas and Holly of J Sah with Terrell going right along with these surges. 150 to go. This is your division three girls 800 meters.
And there they come. They're going TO GO UNDER 210. THESE GIRLS ARE RACING to close out her senior campaign.
AND HOLLY ON THE OUTSIDE, HER TRAINING PARTNER AND HER TEAMMATE WITH TERRELLA RUBLOOSKI TRYING TO COME UP WITH AN ANSWER. BUT HOLLY IS GOING TO BE YOUR TWOTIME CIF CHAMP. ONE IN THE 16. She comes back here in the 82099.
Elas 21039, Robki 21085, and Terrell 21093.
Four girls under 211 here in this division 3 final with Hardman 21535 and win a Pacifica 21837 your division three she was third year a year ago and she's going to bring home the championship here in the 800 meters for division 3 Holly >> and now we move on to the division [music] 2 final Inside out. Here we got looks like our uh Nvea Valencia of Semi Valley. And there is an alternate. She was a coastal channel uh coastal Canyon League champion.
And Brady Lynn Wilson of Villa Park, Laura Patterson of Thousand Oaks, Madison Boucher of Royal, Sierra Vaughn of Myriad of Valley, Sophia Grant of Newberry Park, Isabella Ruiz of Ontario, and Claremont. Looking for big points here represented by Kathine Willlet and Grace Smith, your defending champion.
>> [cheering] >> And that's Ruiza of Ontario getting out.
Well, Gracie Smith again, your defending champion. She went on to be your state meet runner up as a ninth grader a year ago. She's currently number five in California with that 208 she threw down at Arcadia and she's immediately to the outside. But her teammate Katherine Willlet, Willlet has only run 225 a year ago and she already has a 211 with Claremont now running 112.
So Gracie Smith usually like to see her run from behind and kind of kick. She is going to take charge right now and take this field out. That is Sophia Grant of Newberry Park in the all gold over black with Ruiz of Ontario and Valencia of Semi Valley currently in fifth and Gray Smith going to come through at 64 64. So Grace Smith with Grant. Grant was fifth here a year ago. worked her way to the Masters meet. Will it? So right now Claremont running 13 and Valencia of Sim Valley now Ruiz of Ontario and Sierra Vaughn a Valley making move to the backside but Grace Smith continuing to leg this one out and increase that lead and she'll come to the first 600 here at 138. 138 Yeah.
>> Oh, Smith trying to hold off trying to take make it two for two, but Sophia Grant not going anywhere here. She's gone 213. She was the Marvonte elite champion. It's Smith of Claremont. Grant of Newberry Park. But here comes Willlet of Claremont, Ruiz of Ontario.
[cheering] And Willlet coming in from outside here.
Smith. She'll be your twotime champion.
She'll come across here at 212, Grant 213, Will at 213, and Ruiz at 215.
>> And Grace Smith, your champion. But again, looking through the scope of the team battle there. Claremont taking 12 21311 over Grant of Newberry Park 21320.
Ruiz of Ontario 21469 and Vaughn of Muretta Valley coming up there for fifth 21756.
But the sophomore Grace Smith, she is your defending and now two-time 800 meter champ.
[music] >> And here we go with division one. It took a 213 to make it into this final here for division 1. Miss Brilen Comb, the senior of Santiago, California number one, she's gone 20452. Leila Kirk, top 9th grader in California from Long Beach, Bali, she's gone 210. Azra Gersk, the sophomore from Portola, state qualifier a year ago, she's gone 210.
And we'll repeat, we'll go through the rest of this after this race gets going.
[cheering] Amara Lewis of Lasserna 21076 last week. Zariah Lewis Williams of Long Beach Wilson 208. She was fifth to the California State meet a year ago.
Gabriella Loza of HMIT. She was six here a year ago on her way to the Masters meet. Nicole Samson of Santiago number two in California. She's gone 207.
That's Leila Kirk, the ninth grader of Holly. This is the way she likes to race there. Meanwhile, Riley Jones of Long Beach Wilson of Alexa Nagasawa of Glendale also making this field. So, as we said, it took a 213 to get out of prelims here in division 1. That is, Leila Kirk, Brilen Comb, Brilen Comb looking to be the first time in division 1 history where a girl wins three straight 800 meter titles. We already saw her doing that in the 1600 meters. Meanwhile, her teammate on her left shoulder there, that's Samson of Santiago Lewis. And right now, everything is kind of coming down kind of a healthy pace. We're going to see some negative splits here, folks.
Here we go. 64 64 for that whole group.
It's Kirk, Comb, Samson, Lewis, Williams, Lewis, Nagasawa, and Comb now making her move here. She ran a 441 earlier today to get set a new D1 record, but everybody in it here with 250 meters to go. It's Cole and Samson AND GERSA PORTOA. SHE TOOK down a 54 on her split 800. But Brilland Comb sitting back KIND OF MAKING FRIENDS THERE, BUT NOW NO LONGER DOING SO. SHE IS OFF TO THE RACES, FOLKS. She has run a 5531 in the open 400. AND HERE COMES BRAYEN Combs taking over this race with Gersick, SAMSON, LEWIS WILLIAMS, AND KIRK. But Brilland Comb, she will come home to split this one at 207.
THAT WILL BE RIGHT OFF THE ALLTIME record there.
20742.
through the second fastest time in division 1 history. Kersk 21031, Samson 21059, Sarah Lewis Williams 21090, and Leila Kirk 2113, Loza 2128, Nagasawa 21213.
So, and Riley Jones at 21273. Eight girls all under 213. Brillan Cole, she will be into the history books here. first girl to ever win three consecutive titles in division 1 history.
>> I mean, I've been blessed to be able to win the 1600 and 800 double. This is the third year doing it. So, this was definitely I've been telling my coach all week the hardest, toughest one yet.
Tried to like progress every year and get faster every year. This one still felt the hardest. And the 800 especially was just such a loaded field and I've been worried about it and nervous all week. We took it out pretty hot. I don't know what the first 200 was, but it felt rough. Definitely a tough race and just really fun competition. and I'm looking forward to continuing the 800 pass um this week this year. So, knowing I can handle the tough double, I wasn't feeling um too good after the mile, I was nervous about how my legs would feel, but I think it's just every time you step on a line, um what you've accomplished doesn't really mean as much because anyone in the race can just want it more than you or want it [laughter] just as bad as you. So, I think that's what I had to be mindful of today in handling that double is just, you know, how bad do I want it? And I'll be continuing the double and um incorporating the forite next week. not today, but next week I'll hit the 4x8 too. So, I love staying busy at this meet these meets and um I think it's so cool and it's such a blessing to be able to have more than one event and go through these rounds of CIF. Make it into CIF is a really cool thing and so I just feel blessed to be in the position to get there in um three events. So,
