Sunland Park moves to deny cannabis permits -- again

[00:00:00]Council's ratification of a vote that happened last week did not meet a threshold that would have granted permits to Station X and Chronica Cannabis. That is beside city officials acknowledging their vote may have approved both businesses request to operate a cannabis shop on the state line. Their attorney was in attendance tonight who said he was told by the city's attorneys offices that his client would get approval.

[00:00:28]I walked into the meeting with the notice from the city attorney telling me that they were going to correct the mistake that they made last week.

[00:00:37]And so you saw what happened today.

[00:00:39]That obviously did not occur the way that it was expected to occur.

[00:00:44]The vote was welcomed by some in attendance including groups that opposed the permit request last week. Cassandra Hernandez was one of those who spoke in opposition.

[00:00:54]The results there has been a lot of time and effort from the community, interested stakeholders, and businesses who have invested interest to ensure that the city of Sunland Park are complying with their laws and ordinances.

[00:01:07]This case was clear to us from the beginning that there had to have to have been a majority.

[00:01:13]Hernandez said the council's votes have consistently rejected the two businesses request and that city leadership has the ability to do so under the law. We received a statement from both cannabis owners saying they are prepared to head to a district judge for a review of city council's votes.
