Hitting Cups: Tron Plays His First Tournament Golf in 20 YearsAdded:
Oh mercy.
>> We're inside the penalty area, I think.
Think you like this move?
>> I don't. No, I don't like this move.
>> Folks, hello and welcome to an episode of what we're calling hitting cups, presented by our friends at Titalist, the number one ball in golf. Uh what is hitting cups? It's kind of a meet the meet the new film room. Same as the old film room is kind of what we're doing here. We're taking a look at everything that that made our older episodes of film room really really great. And one of the big keys to that was my friend, your friend Justin Huber, professional golfer, former professional golfer. I you know that's that's okay to say, right?
>> Yeah, it's a little uh little bit of a hot topic, but officially a midam golfer now. So, no no longer a professional golfer, but um man, it's it's great to be back with you guys. I cannot wait to watch some of this. I I don't know what's coming and there's there's nothing better than golf than watching golf when you have no clue what you're about to witness. So, and I and watching all you guys play, it's always a treat.
So, anytime we can break it down, it's it's going to be great. For the first episode here, we are going to be watching uh TC and we're going to be watching TC play his first competitive golf tournament in about 20 years.
>> Yes.
>> Since since high school, he's not played a competitive golf tournament since high school. He's opined on a lot of golf professional golf tournaments. He's had a lot of opinions. Uh but he's getting himself in the cauldron. He's playing at FSGA two-day event at a uh of course I don't know if you know you know you as well as I lived in Jacksonville for a long time. Today we're going to the Slammer and the Squire down at the World Golf Village. Uh I I am very excited.
Have you ever played the Slammer and the Squire?
>> Played the King and the Bear and uh hit some balls on the range at Slammer and Squire, but never never got the treat of of walking the fairways there. So, >> excellent. Well, if you have any questions, you you let me know. Uh but yeah, I'm I'm excited. So, we're going to be watching day two. TC played uh round one, a little bit of Rust, you know, understandably. uh and and we'll take a look at a little bit of that, kind of hear his mindset, and then we'll get in and we'll we'll watch round two, which probably a little better representation of uh our guy getting in the cauldron. But you you got to know TC's game a little bit.
>> Yeah. I mean, generational driver of the golf ball, self-proclaimed >> in theory. Um but uh the guy's tried lefty, you know, he's tried a lot of things. So, I'm really excited to see kind of what he breaks out uh for the first competitive round of 20 years. I mean, a 20-year layoff is not something to to, you know, to just let slip by. I mean, that is a long time for demons to build up to then go have to putt them all out. So, this is this is going to be a treat.
>> Well, you got me excited. Let's Let's dive in.
>> A 82.
82. 12 pars, four doubles, and two bogeies. No birdies today, which that's We got to be better than that. I got to get over my demons. I think I'm okay with the the chipping and the pitching for the most part. I just like there's just not a lot of grass out there. I wish I had the swing back on nine. Just quick at the top. The left miss is terrifying and and just punishing. Uh so lost ball there.
Got hurt. 15. Like one thing you can't do there. Wiped it. Caught a little thin in the water. Ret playing really conservatively, passively on the par on the par fives instead of shipping it up there and figuring it out. I don't I didn't play bad golf. I just played like pretty volatile golf. Uh we got a quick turn. We got an 8:30 shotgun in the morning and uh it's going to be cold again. It's, you know, probably last night at like really chilly weather. Uh, so we'll see how the body feels in the morning and, you know, little probably 6 am wake up and hot shower, a little stretching session, take the kiddos to school and then hop down here. So, uh, 82, you are what your record, you know, says you are. So, 82.
>> Opening round 82. TC does not shoot in the 80s uh, very often. It's cold. It's kind of like, can you paint a picture of like northeast Florida in in December, January? It's like kind of cold. It's brown. It's wet, but it's firm. It's kind of a weird combo of stuff.
>> I I used to tell friends up here like when it was 50° down there, it's like 25 here. Like it's the same cor. It's a 25 to 30° difference in what it feels like from here down to there. So, um you get sticky dormant Bermuda that's a little wet. Not fun to play golf on. Um, also like are we just going to glaze past the fact that we got David Duval out here? Like what what are those? It's like damn Daniel. Like what is what are we doing TC with those wraparounds on?
>> It might be like you know Duval wore them for allergies. I mean TC a notorious allergy sufferer. You know he might he might be wearing them for the same reasons.
>> Nothing is getting in those eyeballs.
>> That's right. So 82. Let me let me throw this at you. Round two over under. We'll say 81 and a half. I mean, do you think he's going lower?
>> I think the under. I mean, he's I I just watched uh I don't know, a couple weeks ago, probably the Sand Hills. Um the little Nebraska trip. The guy was on fire. Like, the guy's got game. When he gets it going, he's he's confident. He hits fairways, he hits greens, and he >> the putting may be streaky, but if he rolls it, like I wouldn't be shocked if it's, you know, 75 or below.
>> Yeah. Feel more much more like a golfer today. I'm a little bit worried I stretched too much the last couple days.
I'm not used to playing golf with flexibility or with being limber. So, that could be a could be a theme to watch out for. No wind either. Like to get up to that fifth, sixth range. I think they're payouts to uh top six. So, like to get to sixth. Got to make a couple birdies at least. that that kind of chapped me yesterday. Uh couple birdies, no no doubles today is is >> primary goal. Play the par fives better, too. Like I haven't solved my wedges overnight, so I got I just got to play offense on them and not >> not worry about >> trying to play defense and get to a certain number. Just ship it up there and figure it out from there.
>> Don't be afraid to go low, you know?
>> Yeah. You like what you're hearing there?
>> I do. Yeah. It's it there's no secret that his like inside 50 yard game has been a little rocky.
>> We know we know that.
>> We It's It's a known fact. So, let's not give ourselves 50 yards.
>> You know what I liked that he said uh is I'm not This is a fallacy that I'll sometimes fall into. My chipping didn't magically get better overnight. I'm not showing up to the golf course thinking that I'm a different person. He knows He knows who he is. He knows, you know, how to be comfortable in his own skin. I think he he can go play around some trouble spots and and try to hope for the best, you know?
>> Yeah. Like let's just let's not give ourselves what we don't want.
>> Yeah. Like it's simple.
>> So, a bit of a shotgun start here at the FSGA Winter Series uh two-day event. So, we are starting on hole number two, par three, 185, 186 uh in the cold. You know, this is an ask.
>> Nothing worse than starting on a par three. Like, give me the big face. Let me hit the driver. Even if I'm not supposed to, right? Just give me something. And and pulling out a a four or five iron on the first is not comfy.
>> It's got to get up.
>> Damn.
>> Took too much off.
>> Okay, so the plan didn't work cuz we are chipping immediately.
>> A bit of a front stop there. That was >> for a guy that's been >> he's been preaching it. pretty vocal about that.
>> Yeah, let him mark it.
>> Yeah, >> I love the claw grip for TC.
>> Oh, it's just totally freed him up. Look at that, man.
>> What a grindy three.
>> That's absolutely stealing one right there to walk away with a three off of off of that.
>> That feels like a birdie >> for sure.
>> Especially cuz he had to chip.
>> Yes, >> he does. He does have a tendency with the when he knows the cameras on to get a little bit of an MJ tongue an MJ tongue situation going. Uh I think it's a very lively tongue.
>> It's just a tick. I think a lot all of us have our ticks. I think I think TC's got the uh the tongue out.
>> Mine Mine's a chapstick. I'll go through a darn near a whole tube around. I've just put it on and I wipe it off and put it back on. My wife's like, "What are you doing?" I'm >> just happens. Yeah, it's it's my comfy comfy spot.
>> All right, TC. Let's drive one in play and let's just let's just lay down a base here, should we? You know, >> hit the little squeeze fade off the key and let's get it on the green and keep get going.
>> For a guy who says he's he's maybe too stretched out, that swing looks short.
>> Yeah. Doesn't it? It's got a little ROM in it.
>> Yeah. Which is not usually a calling card of of TC.
Definitely a little short, but I also like how he said uh you know he might be too loose. He stretched too much as he's stretching next to the starter. Like do less.
>> Yeah, if we're too loose, like let's do some squats maybe and tighten the thing back up.
>> Little scratchy lie here. Just got to stay down on this one.
>> Wedge.
>> Yeah, just a little jumpy out of the dormant stuff. Got a knuckle.
>> Whoa.
jumper.
>> Well, there you go.
>> Is that Is that typical?
>> It's just auto. Yeah. Yeah. You give me dormant Bermuda rough and that ball is, >> you know, half as much spin every time.
Like, it's it's virt It shocks me watching guys on the PJ tour spin the ball out of the rough. I do not have that ability. Like, it's like, all right, what do we got? 150. Let's hit a 115 yard shot, and this thing's going to come out like a lightning bolt. So, all right, two holes and two chips here. So, let's let's see if we can Well, why don't we just take a quick look at at the action here?
>> Little dippy.
>> Yeah, >> it's Man, I've been there.
>> Yeah, >> been there.
>> Don't talk. Talk to me.
>> I broke my arm on New Year's Eve in the gym. Uh 20 21. Yeah. No, it's dumb. I'm just clearly not the athlete that I thought I was. Um stepping up on a bench, tripped over with a weighted vest on. I had to look like a wounded giraffe. Like it just was not good.
Immediately broke. Go to the, you know, emergency room. So I'm out like 6 weeks.
>> So I learned to play one-handed. I'm playing with just my right hand.
>> How did that go?
>> Kind of nice. Really?
>> Like I would practice. I I had buddies that came down to Jacksonville. We had a TPC like three days and I played the ladies TE's with one hand and I beat them all um on the valley course. Shot I think I shot 78 or 79 playing one hand.
I got like good at it >> like fully one like fully drivers >> full one-handed everything.
>> Right hand or left hand?
>> Right hand.
>> Wow.
>> I got like nice and I chipped best I chipped in years. And so fast forward 6 weeks later, I'm allowed to use both hands. Could not find the bottom. And it was like I was having this mental dilemma of am I just a one-handed chipper now? Like no, no, no, you got to put both hands on it. And I kid you not, I'm on the back of the range and it's like blade blade chunk chunk. And I'm like pull up. with just one hand, nice and soft, nippy. And I'm like, >> my pride got in the way. And I was like, you have to learn how to chip two-handed.
>> To this day, it's not great. Two. I play I play this back foot 60 bump into anything. I don't care if there's like a >> You like putter here?
>> Yeah.
>> I'm putt this one through the rough, right?
>> I'm putting from 20 yards. I'm bumping 40 yarders. Like, it's just like that's what I got. Um, I've been where he is.
Like, you get down to the ball, you dip, you're just like, "Please, please get airborne." Um, not a fun place to live.
So, it's uh my my heart goes out to TC here. Two holes, two chips. Like, it's it's it's going early.
>> Well, two holes, three chips.
Technically, >> be a classic. You're still >> We're putting this one. I think that I like that.
>> Putting it out of the rough. Classic move.
This is big.
>> We just talk no doubles.
>> Yeah.
>> All right. One double. No more than one double.
>> That's it. That's it.
>> It's all we're allowing ourselves.
>> That's tough cuz that is a uh I mean that's that's a pretty good drive. He was in a good spot.
>> Yeah. Second shot just misjudged. He was almost on Gary Player lane there it looked like.
>> All right. Par five. This one's getable.
Back.
>> Yeah. Kind of a cool hole. Little sort of double dog leggy sort of thing.
>> Car path running through the fairway.
There's a lot of that boost. You get the super boost. You know, >> a little Mario Kart ball.
>> Hit the star on the car path and just get up there.
>> 501 yards. If that's to believe, we got to think our guy's going to have a look.
>> He's swinging so nice with the driver these days >> for I mean these days like the last 20 years. I mean it's just like he just doesn't miss. I don't know how I I truly can't conceive what it would be like to play golf that way. To just drop it in the fairway is like it would be so fun.
I would play golf every day if if I could do this. I just I can't.
>> Come on.
>> Just left it out.
>> Don't give yourself that number.
>> Yeah. The >> important thing about hitting a draw is it's got a draw.
Also, he's playing off the Oh, no. He's playing off the wet fairways. Tough to move a ball with a wet golf ball.
>> Is that right?
>> Yeah, it was for me. Like, it was almost auto I don't want to say squirter, but I just couldn't get enough spin. Uh, >> so it just kind of comes out weak, right?
>> Yeah. It's just like it just squirts offline, never curves back towards your target.
>> That's too good. I mean, [ __ ] you could have saved a couple shots riding the car with him so far.
>> I wish I was catting right now.
Now we're heading to the Palmettos. I kind of You could convince me that maybe this is a better place to play from than Greenside.
>> Yeah, that's it.
>> All right, we're out.
Let's not punt one away on the par five, though. TC bunker game's been good, he said.
>> Yes, he's world class.
>> That sounded good. Did you hear how good that sounded?
>> You know, there's nothing I'm going to say this right now. There is nothing better than good acoustics out of a bumper. Out of a bunker. Like it is just when you hit the thump and you can feel the ball like grip on the club face.
It's like I did something.
>> It's kind of an ASMR. I kind of want to hear I kind of just want to hear this again.
>> Oh, like that's what it's that's like uh stock sound effects right there. That is a bunker shot.
>> The speed. Oh man. It's a guy that's not afraid of a bump.
>> 100%.
All right, let's make this good stroke.
>> Had a baby.
>> That was great.
>> That was a grindy five.
>> I mean, that's first hole, third hole.
We can't, you know, >> not losing one there is >> harder than it needed to be.
>> Oo, this one would give me the wheelies >> for sure. That is way too straight and way too much water down the left side where I'm aiming.
>> Okay. Do I start this left of the water?
Hit a big slice. Is that what I That's what my eyes seeing.
>> Yeah. But again, >> hang on.
>> I mean, he pushed it a little like what did he push that? Five yards >> maybe.
>> Like he's looking at that one. That's a quick tea pick for me >> for sure.
>> I'm like, yo, >> oh, we're going to find that. Hell yeah.
Yeah, exactly. Aiming at that golf cart.
Are we aiming right at that golf cart?
>> Sorry.
>> It never fails to just blow me away. I mean, it's just he's truly aimed at that tree.
>> The lines The lines are not matching of where he needs his ball to go. But he does a good job. Can you explain what happens? How does he how does he hit it online?
>> So I I truly think he has incredible club face control. So it's like TC's always had a little over the top move.
When he does it, it's not a hard release. You know, he comes over the top, it kind of squares it up back to his line and then he holds off the club face. So it it works. I used to practice with a mega hook stance and try to hit it straight. Same concept of like don't like overrelease it with your hands. It was like stand super hook, try to hit it as straight as possible. So through impact, you know, you're just holding off that club face. And it's a great like little drill to do. Um he just does it in real life.
It's rarely seen, but >> Oh, he's chipping.
>> Chipping again.
Scoop and score there.
>> But it's just every one of them's fighting for his life out there.
>> I I feel it, man.
if we're going to steal three in a row.
>> Oh, shame on me.
>> Shame on you.
>> Shame on me.
>> Don't doubt the guy.
>> That's I mean, this is this is pretty ratlike here. There's the tongue.
There's the MJ tongue.
>> That's pretty ratlike in the early going here.
>> Just saving shots, you know?
>> That's what he does so well.
>> Keeping his head in the game.
>> That's what he does so well. He's rarely off and when he is, he just is like he might not play a lot of competitive golf, >> but he does that so well all the time every time. It's just like he just refuses to make doubles. Like the the holes where I make doubles so easily, he just is >> he just refuses to do it. Yeah. Hole number six, our fifth hole of the day.
We are saving shots like a madman right now.
>> Only two over and haven't hit a green yet.
>> Yeah. How about that? And >> we chipped four times.
>> Signed up for that. Yeah.
>> Oh, I can't unsee that left shoulder thing.
>> He'll just a tad.
>> It's really nice.
>> Yeah.
>> Like watch Lucas Glover hit the golf ball >> and that club exits like way below his left shoulder because he's just rotating so hard holding that face. It's awesome.
This is your moment.
>> Great strike.
>> Right at go get up.
>> One hop. Short.
Little heavy maybe. Thought it looked pretty good.
>> Oh yeah.
>> Oh, just a little skinny.
>> Little skinny.
>> Check that time.
>> You didn't see the turf line.
>> Yeah.
>> Drags the putter out with the best club in his hand.
>> Yeah, I think that's I don't know that he's chipping it inside of that right now.
We're just pulling the roulette machine a lot on these so far.
Oh, what a rancid five.
That's a good line.
Any any comment? Is that confirmed?
>> I haven't heard that before, but I fully in agreeance. You feel like you're doing things right, but you're a little off.
You make bogey and you just start to question yourself of like, how am I making bogeies from the middle of the fairway?
>> For sure. Well, let me press a little harder next time and that'll fix it.
Yeah. Oh, that pisses me off. Just bad golf there.
Tried to squeeze an eight iron in there.
Need to add a little bit more. It's still cold out. Should have hit seven.
Got a ton of green.
I had a bunch like a two or three ball marks up ahead of my putt and was trying to kind of power it through those. Make sure I didn't get get stuck. It was so soupy down there. I didn't want to chip it.
>> Preach.
>> Okay. Yeah, >> I like it. I wouldn't. Yeah, I feel you, player.
>> Uh, kind of a cool par three here. I I kind of dig this hole.
>> Yeah, >> that sounded skinny. That one I know was skinny.
>> That one might sting the hands.
>> I love it. It's still that cold.
>> Back up out of the frame, bud.
>> I like our man. He's selfaware. I like I like Watch this move.
>> Yep.
Let let the camera catch this ball careening off the right side.
>> Yeah, I was massive shout out to anybody who gets paired with one of the guys in these groups. Thank you very much.
>> Let me ask you this. What's your best lag putting kind of thought process?
>> Um, I used to suck at it because I didn't hit my putts in the same spot on the putter. I've gotten a lot better at it. Um, it's a feel thing. There's no real good, in my opinion, like way to lag putt or good tip. It's just a feel thing. Like you have to see the whole thing. I take I love to take my practice strokes looking at the hole. So I'll take two just staring at the hole and get over the ball and try to recreate that feel. So when I'm looking at the hole, I'm just trying to create that feel in my stroke of like how hard do I need to hit this? How hard? And then get over it and try to make that same exact no extra hit, no nothing.
That's That's the way I do it now. Um I'm significantly better than I used to be because I think I'm hitting a more solid, but it's lag putting is a as much of a skill as like driving.
>> It's got to take the slope. Come on down there, baby. Go.
The guy has had 8 to 12 feet for par a lot.
You can only play roulette so many times. No, >> he just keeps the bullet comes up.
>> Yeah, just keeps pulling that lever.
>> Just kind of came out of it a little bit maybe.
>> Yeah, tough read.
>> Yeah.
All right. Couple bogeies.
>> We need to get We need to get back on the wagon. Yeah, we need to hit >> There's the sad MJ.
Come on. Come on.
>> Yeah, we heard that one under the breath there.
>> Look how hot Mike caught that one.
>> All right, part five. I just I don't think he's that far off, >> you know? It's like again, he's he's driving it in play.
He's getting it up around the right spot. Just kind of some little slippery errors.
It >> hasn't been real clean yet. Yeah, >> get one hard at that left bunker. I got five wood.
Trying to get one like 80 yards out. I'm like three bills.
Idiot.
>> Come on.
>> Let me ask you this again. I I'm not I'm not swinging guy.
He seems like he's got kind of like really low hands. Do you see any of that? Looks like he kind of puts those hands low and it just that that's when I get really flippy and lefty.
>> Yeah.
>> Come on.
>> I He definitely does. But I I like low hands. Yeah. Truthfully, like I >> I That's where my comfy spot is. Like when I get nervous, they keep getting lower. Um, >> well, that's almost what I wonder is what's going on with him? Cuz I don't I don't know that I've seen him. Maybe they are, but I don't know that I've seen him that low before.
>> They're getting down there. He's getting a little hunchy. Maybe he's too loose.
>> What is the like Why do they get lower as you get more nervous? What makes it more comfortable?
>> It's just like a I I can feel it just like I start to lower the hands and I'm like, "You're doing it again. You're doing it again. Get back upright." Um I don't know. Just a comfy thing.
>> Yeah.
>> Yikes. All things considered, not not the worst leave in the world.
>> A sandy lie >> next to one foot in a pine straw.
>> Be good.
>> Sounded good.
>> Gives it a be good.
>> Here's the thing. TC has never wasted a be good.
>> He's never wrong about that. If he says be good, I mean, yeah, if he says that, I mean, it's it's going to be inside 10 ft.
>> Come on, baby.
>> Let's go.
>> That's our hitter.
>> Let's go, man.
>> He might be back >> again. He's just grinding. Yeah, like that was a very unorthodox score.
>> Let's see if we get a little MJ tongue here.
>> 25 holes. 26 holes.
>> No, he's making you work for it.
>> Yeah, >> we might need a tongue counter.
>> All right, back to the clubhouse here.
This is kind of a cool hole, too. I think a little less than driver sometimes. Although for him, he drives it so straight. He's probably going to hit driver everywhere.
>> Hang, baby. I think he hit it in those trees on the day on day one and made a mess.
>> It's all right.
>> He stayed out of him this time.
>> Couple bounces.
I don't know what it is about this hole.
It makes me just want to jump on it.
>> All right. 142.
>> Oh, we're fine.
>> It's kicking up. Freshening.
>> So, is this again dor dormant Bermuda?
Is that It looks like I mean that's rough, right? Dormant rough. That should be another knuckler that's going to jump, you think?
>> Yeah. Not quite as long as the other hole, the jump, but I I'm I'm not playing this ball to spin.
>> This is one that jumps up in the air and just kind of goes >> too good.
>> Catch a piece. Sit.
>> Hang, baby.
>> And when those balls land off the green, they are moving off the green.
>> All right, >> baby.
>> This one at least maybe can get a little loft on. I don't know if I I don't know.
>> This This is the one where I'm slamming the 60 into that hill. I'm going ball first, bump it in there, jam it hard, and just hope for the best.
>> Was that bunker?
>> Yeah, I guess it was.
>> That guy's just a magician. He is.
>> Thank you.
>> He looks so comfortable with the claw.
>> He does. I don't know what it does with his right arm, that elbow, but it just like locks it down in it. Just >> know the ball's just coming out of the middle of that putter every time. That's a lot of grindy ass pars >> through eight holes.
>> Through eight holes.
>> I'm exhausted watching it.
>> Just using up too much energy.
>> Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking.
>> All this green. We're fighting. We're battling, baby. We're battling.
Sometimes that's just what you got to do. You take what you got and you you realize that you're going to need a nap after the round. Like, >> but I think that's just like how he I mean that's his world. That's where he lives when he plays golf is like this.
This feels like a uh >> often times it'll feel much more stressfree, but I think he is weirdly comfortable in this in this type of >> thrives in the stress. Another kind of cool hole. Like big landing area off the tea, but small little little small little green. Short hole, but kind of a Got to hit a good wedge in there.
>> That's my shot shaped right there.
>> Over the top peeler.
>> Give me that cutter ball.
>> Yeah.
>> Stock 54 here.
>> All right, we got to hit the green.
>> Good acoustics.
>> Sounded really good, right?
No be good call.
>> Yeah, that I was going to say that one's not good.
>> All right, we got to look.
>> Come on.
>> Hit it.
>> Finally plays a perfect hole. And >> I wonder if that leaves it short. It >> I almost wonder if that was a grainy one.
>> Yeah, I'm sure they look they got to be so grainy.
>> Comfy par though. like our first true comfy >> kind of ex. He might have just exhaled for the first time all day. All right, par five. We we vowed to play the par fives better. We've got one birdie already today.
>> Look at those feet.
>> Oh, baby.
>> Sit. Get on the ground.
>> Okay.
>> Oh, there's there's space.
>> Yeah, there's space. It's a you know, it's a resort course built for the resort golfer. Not a very inviting second shot here over >> No, this looks pines and itchy grass.
>> This looks like a long iron he's putting up over these trees.
>> Oh yeah, >> good strike.
>> Great shot.
>> He's playing quick, too. I love it. He's He's moving.
>> That uncomfy zone. I don't know. I don't know how far out we are, but >> yeah, probably 70 or so. I think he's I think he's left it back far enough.
>> Good little angle here. Maybe >> that sounded good.
Oh, hell yeah.
>> Let's go, man. Just right.
>> Watch this. Watch this shot. He's got like I love his pass on on little shots like this. He almost hits these little like >> he just hits down on those wedges. So good.
>> Speed he's driving. I mean that is nice.
But listen here.
>> Just just right.
>> Just to the right. Just to the right.
Six in to the right. Yeah. What are we I mean TC that's right at it, buddy. It's >> inside the margin of error. Yeah.
>> Come on, baby.
>> All right. What do we got? This looks it's got to go left, right, hard here.
>> I think it's a grainy snapper. Maybe >> maybe a little just outside the right edge. Keep the pace up.
>> Nope.
>> Just a Come on, TC. Like that's our That's our That was our moment to get the full mojo.
>> Those are two two birds in a row. Four, man.
>> Head comes out of it. Watch his head here soon as he makes contact.
>> Nope.
>> Yeah.
one. He wanted to see it go in so bad.
>> I love when he hits the nope before he's even hit the ball.
>> It's like back swing. Nope. Nope. That's not it.
>> I've done I've done a couple back swings and stopped before cuz I was like, "Well, that was not it."
>> I just have a stroke.
>> That wickled three times.
>> Oh, there it is. Let it Let it out, baby.
>> His air is >> licking that pollen.
>> All right. Another another cart path hole here. A little Mario Kart hole. I imagine we're I don't know if we're laying up short of that. That's the little squeeze point of the driver. I'm not sure.
>> Little landing zone.
>> Yeah.
>> Whoa.
What is that?
>> Let's Let's take another look at this one.
>> Swipe.
>> Yeah.
>> Club drop.
>> I don't know if that is guarding against the left one from the the hole prior, but something didn't look right there.
>> No, it didn't. All right. I'll tell you what. We've got some extra eyes for this one. Let's throw this over to title staffer Michael Brennan. Guy who's a just colossus at hitting the driver.
Let's see what he has to say about this one from TC.
Back swing's pretty short with driver.
You know, I like getting it back there a little bit. Gives you a little more time to uh put some more energy into the club. His back foot looks way behind him. He looks like he's aiming in the right trees to begin with. So, I actually don't know if it was that terrible of a shot.
That was pretty bad. that he leans on it pretty hard. He gets going forward at the top, you know, he gets a little lean in. Never a good sign cuz then you you got to lean in and then you got to back out of it to kind of try to square it up. Pretty common.
Honestly, it's not terrible though. I think there's some good stuff in there.
But >> that was >> the setup is bad and and he leans in quite a bit.
>> All right, there you go. Thanks to Michael Brennan for weighing in. Uh let's see where where we ended up over here.
>> Like the guy up in the pink. Oh, >> I feel like I'm playing behind >> so bad it's good.
>> We got a hosanoy.
>> I'd like to see what that guy's action looks like up ahead.
>> I haven't seen much drawn, but >> I mean the tracer's out.
>> I was going to say maybe lucky.
>> Yeah.
>> Well, hey, trees are 90% air.
>> Exactly.
>> Just dodge the Spanish moss and we're good today.
>> Might have to get a marshall over there.
We got like planet earth going on.
I mean, just absolutely just stuff the pinñata >> dime from over there.
>> Angles, you know, he's a big width and angles guy. I can see it. He probably had that in his bookmarked. Just a little left rider. These are my favorite.
>> Good stroke.
>> Come fill it up.
>> Come on, big fella.
>> Feel like I stole one there.
>> Yeah, I feel like that, too.
your playing partners are thinking the same thing.
>> I I feel like I went from the first eight holes being like, how is this guy even close to par? Yeah.
>> To now I'm just like, how's this guy now like four under on this round of golf?
>> How are we not birding them all?
>> Yeah, it's been a very very up and down roller coaster round of golf here so far.
>> We must have missed the tongue there. I know it had to be out.
>> All right, tester here. This is a real golf >> hole. I can just see my ball in that right swale chipping it back up >> for sure. Chip went into the water >> lumber. It's >> cold. Florida cold out there.
>> Sounded a little >> It's gone.
>> Bite.
>> Thank you.
>> Our guy is dialed.
>> Oh man. TC, come on. Lock in. This is your bread and butter, baby.
>> These What speed of these greens? I mean, these these feel to me like these are just aggressive whole speeds, right?
Yeah.
>> Like, give me that. Tighten up the line and just send it home, baby.
>> Which again, easier said than done when you are sitting here drinking bourbon and uh not playing your first tournament in 20 years. I suppose he's probably feeling a little different.
>> I I played my first round in three and a half months uh last month with Osali. We met at Timuana.
>> Wind was blowing 20. Greens were running a 14. Birdie the first hole. Hadn't touched a club. And I'm like, oh, I'm back.
>> This game's so easy.
>> Chipped it three times on hole three and three times on hole four. And I was like, and then three putter for double on five. And I'm like, you know, this game is pretty hard. That's right. You can do that. This is how this typically goes. So, >> um, I can only imagine what it feels like not playing a competitive round in 20 years.
>> Short four getable here. I wonder if I don't know if he's going to I mean >> okay you you know how far he flies it. I mean he's probably flying at 255 260 bunker that bunker looks inviting.
>> Looks like it's going to gobble.
>> Yeah, we might be going less than driver here. I feel like >> I hope he goes less enough to where he doesn't have >> Yeah, >> the uncomfy one.
>> Here we go.
>> That fivewood again probably. Huh?
>> It's like a low rocket.
>> I'll take it.
I love he's just moving his chest piece around here.
>> Yeah. 95. This is his number. Isn't this what he had at uh on 10?
>> Yeah. Put the pawn up there and >> That's right.
>> Let the bishop cook.
>> That's right. Rook to E9.
>> He has good acoustics with his wedges.
>> Get on it. It's been called.
>> Oh, it is.
>> It is.
>> It is.
>> God, he does. He thumps the [ __ ] out of those wedges, man. I kind of want to hear that one one more time, too.
Like listen listen to this.
>> Oh yeah, it's a good noise.
>> I would Yeah. Again, I would kill to like hit my wedges with that much conviction. I feel like I'm just up and out of it. I'm hitting them thin and wipey and clicky.
>> Yeah. I mean those are like >> drive that thing into the ground. That loft. I mean that that's nice.
>> It's got to go int 70% putt >> for DC.
>> Yeah. Right.
That looked like a good stroke.
>> Yeah, it just lacked a little pace.
>> He is way better on ultra fast greens.
>> I was trying to find something in it.
>> Shoot, >> man. All right.
>> I mean, the last like six, seven holes have been >> I know. He's playing playing good golf.
>> Great.
>> Day one. Played a shot here. clanked it off the bulkhead into the water. Uh, bummer. Got to think he's playing. I mean, that little left swale looks pretty good to me.
>> Maybe try to use the the slopes there on the front left, >> but he's also hitting the [ __ ] out of his wedges. I mean, maybe he can thump a pitching wedge up there.
>> That is intimidating, >> right?
Good strike.
>> Come on.
>> Just left of it.
>> Safety first.
>> Yeah, good play.
>> That's a tournament tournament golf play there. I love the casual TC arm swing when he hits a pretty good one. Arms just dangle and and kind of move back and forth. I had a buddy in college.
Still play with him to this day. It could be pitch black outside. When he hits a good shot, the hand comes up to block the ice. It's like, you know, you don't even have to watch where the ball goes. If if he does this, it's a nice one.
>> Yeah. Take it off your hat. Go shake his hand. Yeah.
>> Another feeler here down left to right.
That thing just kind of stayed, huh?
>> I love the love the pace though.
>> Yeah, >> he's made it unbelievably stressfree the last six holes.
>> You want to say he'd be kicking himself for those first couple holes, but he just got out of there pretty unscathed to where it's like almost could have been much more frustrating in those first five.
>> Could have been like six over and >> and now, you know, I mean, got to be thinking, can I get this baby back to even par if I keep hitting it like this?
A tight one here. Tight hole. Uh but again, shouldn't really be a problem for our world class driver.
>> Yeah.
Sit.
Sit.
Should be soft, right?
>> Hope so.
>> Not getting much. Okay, that's fine.
>> Oh, this is per There's nothing better.
I'm going say this. when you're just in the rough on a par five and you got to lay up.
>> Yeah.
>> Because you know it's like let me hit the knuckle straight ball. Like all I got to do is just make contact. This ball is just screaming straight >> right to center field.
>> Yeah.
>> Another goody man.
He made the adjustments out of the rough yet?
>> Seems like you okay with it?
>> Keep it rolling.
>> Yeah, let's do that.
>> Let's please.
>> Another What a good shot out of that.
>> Just sandy lie >> proper, you know.
>> Got it >> one time.
>> Oh, wow. That thing just hit the runaway truck ramp there. Slam on the brick.
Thanks. Got stuck in the mud.
>> Organic matter.
>> Oh, shoot. That was That was an just chances though.
>> I mean, chance after chance.
>> Chances could do without the car path, but I you know, I don't know what you do there. But >> let's put some coina in there.
>> No.
>> Oh, that's out of character.
>> Softly. That was what Neil calls the cops ball. Just get on the ground. Get on the ground. Stop resisting.
>> Don't do anything stupid.
>> Oh, do we stay up?
>> Okay, we're in the pine straw.
>> That's it.
>> Where are we going >> with an angle? I think the camera's flipped around looking backwards.
>> Okay, so >> I think Yeah, we're okay.
>> Should be Oh.
88.
>> Okay, >> Michael Irvin.
>> Big 88. Let's >> see how he does with taking something off.
>> Still got to be aggressive through the ball >> for sure.
>> Good. I don't know if it's the right number, but that was aggressive.
>> Short.
>> Too much off.
>> Yeah, a little bit. That looked like a pretty good pass.
>> Mhm.
Oh, one time for the kid. Good run.
Gosh.
>> All right, no more doubles, TC.
>> Get it in here. Let's move on to the net.
>> All right, >> maybe I couldn't see the left half of the hole there. Had that made me nervous.
>> All right, two more.
Good finisher.
>> I'd be lasering that right water bank just being like, can I cover? What's that third floor condo on the left there >> to cover that?
>> That's the guy we're looking for right there.
>> Yeah. I don't need to watch it. You guys watch it for me.
>> All right. 110.
>> Oh, perfect. Perfect. Gap wedge here.
Thump it.
>> Mhm.
>> Go a hair.
>> Just needs a hair.
My man's playing golf right now, man.
Look at this. Straight up the hill.
>> I I think this one goes in.
>> Yeah, I like this one, too.
>> Bounce back percentage, you know.
>> That's right.
>> That's not even close.
>> Oh, mama.
>> Yeah, that was it's a misread of the speed. Maybe. Did we mish hit that putt?
What the hell was that?
>> Let's watch that again.
>> Short backstroke just like probably knew this isn't far enough back. Yeah, >> accelerate.
>> Uphill into the grain. Probably just kind of a lot going on there. It's >> all right. I mean, the game happens.
>> Cozy par.
>> All right.
No harm.
>> Yep.
>> No harm done.
>> Another good wedge. Another good drive.
I mean, again, just kind of run out of holes here, you know, 27 hole. We need Yeah, exactly.
At least one more good drive here.
>> No, it again.
>> Get on the ground.
>> Stop resisting.
>> Oh [ __ ] TC.
>> Come on, man.
>> We've done a lot of good work here.
>> I know.
>> To to We don't want to give anything back right now.
>> Not Not at the 377 par4. Like last hole of the day. Let's just get it out there.
Am I reading too much into this? Should Well, maybe it's just the cameras that are kind of uh squeezing the angle a little bit, but I feel like we got to be on the right side of that box.
>> I mean, if we're hitting a fade, >> right, >> I'm I'm going to be dangerously close to that right T marker.
>> Oh, mercy.
>> We're inside the penalty area, I think.
>> Let's get creative, TC.
Give me a little.
>> It's going to be tough to maneuver that one with all that behind it.
>> He's taking his time.
>> So, hey, >> just to just to Yeah.
>> Love this.
>> Stress test this.
>> Stress.
>> I'm going to go back >> online with the flag from point of entry.
>> We're going to take an unplayable.
>> Well, he's in the hazard.
>> Yeah. M >> penalty area. Sorry. Organic matter.
Yeah.
>> I just think even even if I get on this side of the club p where whereas I I can go all the way back there online, right?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. Exactly. Okay.
>> All right. We're going to go back.
>> You know, for a guy that's >> on line with between where >> for a guy that's a rule stickler, you think he'd have this one nailed down. I wouldn't need, you know, reassurance >> just out of an abundance of caution.
>> Yeah.
>> Crossing the flag back on a line. So, at least I have a shot at the at the green here.
>> Think you like this move?
>> I don't. No, I don't like this move. I mean, I know we we we zoomed in on the ball there, but like surely you could get that thing out sideways.
>> Yeah. I don't know.
>> I'm just wondering.
>> Yes. Try to save yourself 50 yards.
>> Yeah. Who wants 200 N on your third?
It's >> just so hard to get a five iron up out of that stuff.
>> Wasn't it just a gentleman though? Tap down that divot in the rug.
>> Stupid drive.
>> That stinks. That is going to leave a just horrible taste. Now I feel like we're just full circle like back to the back to the first here with this >> pit shot. Let's see if we can slay slay some demons. What are we looking for?
What's the telltale sign of of danger?
>> Watch his head.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah. Watch the head drop. So, keep your eye on like the top of his head, like top of his hat, and watch where it is in impact.
>> Not bad.
>> Not too bad.
>> Little teeth on that little nip, man.
>> A spin doctor ri or a fy SN10. What do we got going on there?
>> God dang it, >> man. Damn it.
>> That makes lunch taste so bad.
>> That makes my lunch taste bad. You know, I was invested in that one. And I I feel like it's it's fitting in a way. the way he started was, you know, the way we finished, right? And it's which is almost funny on a like shotgun start like that where it's like, no, all of it's contained to that part of the property over there. But god, there was some good golf in the middle there.
>> I mean, once he got to like hole seven, it was a stripe show for until the last T-ball. Yeah, man.
>> 77.
>> Well, you can cash uh you can catch the under on 81 and a half. We we blew away day one, which is great. TC's had a little bit of time to think about it now and and reflect. Let's let's hear what he had to say to us tonight.
>> Cubes DJ, let me have it. Uh there's nothing that you guys can say that uh is in any way worse than what I say to myself.
>> Can't confirm >> during and after the round. My alignment was atrocious. Uh >> called that out. trying to cover the ball, really get down on it cuz the there's just not a lot of grass in those fairways in January.
And uh yeah, I don't know. Strikes and gutters. Uh very very schizophrenic round of golf or rounds of golf.
Actually, you know what? Round one wasn't even schizophrenic. Round one was just bad. Round two schizophrenic. So curious to see what you guys think. Lots of work to be done. Um, didn't really feel like a representative sample, but uh, yeah, iron I drove it very poorly.
Iron play's got to get better. Putting was inconsistent. Uh, I felt like I had amnesia on every hole. Like every hole was a brand new uh, >> just a new experience. There it is.
>> The other holes. So, uh, let me know what you guys think. Hubes again. Let me have it. Thanks, guys. I mean, that's that's pretty self- aacing from our guy there.
>> I feel like what he said is exactly what we said. Yeah.
>> Um, man, what a what a round. You know, grind to start, get it under control, you're cruising, you got birdie looks, and then all of a sudden you just end with the old dub. It's just a that you know what? If I ended around like that, it's typically like I'm going to McDonald's for lunch. Like we're not eating Chick-fil-A. Like it's a double quarter pounder fries.
You This is what you deserve to eat.
>> You are not You do not get anything better than this. You'll poison your body right now. Um I you know I say that I'm going to go down memory lane here.
Uh playing at Worldwoods now Cabbat Citrus uh in a West Florida. It was like a major. I mean this is a big deal. Um, playing final round playing with Kevin Roy. Shout out Kevin. Great guy on the PJ tour right now. And big Mike Vasaki.
>> Sure.
>> Yeah. Just a all-star pairing.
>> Yeah.
>> And I'm leading. Three to go. And I'm like, you got this. And I step up as drivable par4.
>> Oh my gosh, this is going to I may shed a tear. Um, drivable par4. Big Mike goes first, rips it up short of the green. And it's in between driver and 3-wood to get to the green. And hindsight is a beautiful thing. It's a three-wood. Just hit it short. But I'm like, I'm going to hit this high peel and driver in there. It's going to be sick. I'm making birdie in a footprint in the waist bunker right of the green. Like high yacht over there.
Try to hit it twice. Can't move it. And then tap to take an unplayable and make like an eight. Finish out the round. I am so mad. I called my wife and she's like, "How'd it go?" And I'm like, "I want to drive off the road right now into the pine trees." Like, I'm so mad.
And so I hang up, stop at McDonald's on the way home. And it's like quarter pounder with cheese, fries, and a McNugget and a Coke. And I get home and I'm just like like this is how you're supposed to feel right now after you just blew that. Um, yeah, I could I could still taste that quarter pounder right now. It was a tough move and and you know I can see TC doing something very similar after that. Like you grind your way back and then just you know throw it away. Gosh, it hurts.
It does. I I think if I was going to take the optimist point of view, there's just so much good in there that and it's so weird winter winter series golf that it's like man with just a this much spitshine. I'm like he also like in another universe he goes out and plays and shoots 7174 wins or something you know >> 72 second round all day you know we we clean up the two doubles we're at 73 and then you make one of those other putts it's a 72 >> man >> so I think there's a lot of good I feel but I feel like we we feel the way we're supposed to feel right now >> feel icky >> a little icky sad little little sad uh but ultimately >> but encouraged >> we're encouraged and I think there's there's good golf to come for TC this year He's made maybe the biggest turnaround that I've seen out of all you guys have just like kind of was a question mark now like might be one of the most consistent out of the whole group.
>> Yeah. Well, Hubes, this was a blast.
Appreciate you you sitting back down in the uh in the film room here to uh to watch TC try to hit some cups. Thank you to our friends at Titleist. Thank you to everybody for watching. Truly can't wait to do more of these uh all year. So, look forward to it.
>> I love it. Thank you for having me and and again just so excited to to see the rest of what's on the docket.
