52 - The Infiltration And Threat From Inside Madina (Seerah Of Muhammad S)

[00:00:13]Now as we know during the period of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam in Makkah during those 13 years that he spent in Makkah fighting physical fighting in the way of Allah subhana wa ta'ala was not allowed. So the Muslims in Mecca they patiently took the that was given to them by the Qur because Allah subhanaa tala did not give them permission even to fight back.

[00:00:40]But after the hijah subhanahu wa ta'ala gave the Muslims permission to physically defend themselves. Allah subhana wa tala revealed the ayah Permission has been given to the people who are being fought against. They are fighting you. So permission has been given to you to fight back because the people the Muslims they are being wronged they are being oppressed.

[00:01:19]So Allah subhanaa tala now he gives them permission to fight back and Allah is able to help them and to give them victory. So soon after the hij to Medina Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gave permission for the Muslims to fight.

[00:01:36]We need to understand what the society of Medina was like before fighting actually started. And we talked a little bit about the situation of Medina.

[00:01:50]We mentioned that Medina was basically divided into three equal populations.

[00:01:57]The tribe of comprised about onethird of the population of Medina. The tribe of Khazaraj comprised about onethird of the population of Medina. And the Jews comprised about onethird of the population of Al Medina. Now the majority of the and they accepted Islam.

[00:02:16]So now Muslims were the majority and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam was the leader. Now the Jews they were still about onethird of the population but they couldn't do anything about the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam being in charge because the majority of the population of Medina now is Muslim and they have appointed Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam as their leader. So the Jews as a minority, they can't do anything about it. Even though they were unhappy with this, they couldn't do anything about it. So some Jews pretended to accept Islam. They were the biggest enemies of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and the Muslims, but they pretended to accept Islam in an attempt to try to destroy Islam from the inside.

[00:03:06]It's always more dangerous to destroy something from the inside than from the outside. So some of the Jews they decided okay we will pretend to become Muslims. We will act as if we are Muslims in order to harm the Muslims and Islam from the inside. So there were some of the Jews who became and Zuberb and Zbus and there were some others who pretended to become Muslims but they were actually from the 15.

[00:03:38]So the Jews who were the biggest enemies of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam they would ask him all sorts of questions. Now these Jews as we know as we talked about very early on they originally came from Asham and they settled in al Madina. So they had some knowledge of the previous scriptures.

[00:04:00]They had knowledge of the Tawra.

[00:04:02]So they would go to the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and they would ask him questions and they would see if he would be able to answer these questions according to what was revealed in their scriptures.

[00:04:15]They would hope that they could ask him some tricky questions and they were hoping that he would slip up or make a mistake and they could say, "I got you."

[00:04:23]So they would ask all sorts of questions and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam would very patiently answer their questions and they were amazed. He would answer all of their questions exactly according to the revelation that they had and they were amazed. You know this is a man who doesn't have any type of education.

[00:04:42]He doesn't know how to read. He doesn't know how to write. He doesn't know the Tawra, but he's able to answer all of these questions perfectly. So, they were amazed by that and they knew that he was truthful. Yet, their envy and their jealousy and their hatred still prevented them from becoming Muslims.

[00:04:59]So, they would ask all sorts of questions. One of the questions they asked was about Muhammad tell us about and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said is Jirel.

[00:05:12]And then the Jews they said, "Yeah, Jirel, he is our enemy from the angels."

[00:05:16]Imagine this.

[00:05:18]They accept that Jirel is an angel and they say still that he is our enemy.

[00:05:23]Does this even make any sense?

[00:05:26]What type of religion is this? What type of belief is this? And the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam asked them why why do you say that he is your enemy? And they said because he comes with he comes with because Jirelam when there is fighting and the angels come down to help the believers Jirelam is one of those angels who comes and helps in the fighting. So they would say look he comes and he causes the spilling of blood and he is one of the angels who destroys the cities that are disobedient to Allah. For example, the people of Luthisam.

[00:06:09]It was Jirel.

[00:06:11]Who picked that city up and made the bottom of that city the top. He turned it upside down. This was Jirelam who took care of this by the command of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. So these Jews they would say this is he comes with this type of a thing. He is our enemy from the angels.

[00:06:29]Look at this warped logic that they had.

[00:06:31]And Allah subhana wa ta'ala addresses this claim of the Jews inah Bakar. Allah subhana wa ta says whoever is an enemy to Allah and his angels and his messengers and then Allah is the enemy to the disbelievers.

[00:06:48]Also these Jews when they heard the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam talking about the prophet sulamanisam when the Jews heard the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam praising and speaking about him with respect as a prophet of Allah the Jews would say do you hear this man do you hear Muhammad talking about like this when was just a magician even though he is one of the prophets of Bani Israel and they still accused him of being a magician. What type of religion is this where you badmouth the angels of Allah and you badmouth the prophets of Allah but this is exactly what the Jews were doing and Allah subhana wa ta'ala addresses this as well in Bakaram did not commit kufur magic is kufuram was not a magician he did not commit kufur rather it is the who committed kufur and they are the ones who taught the people magic notam Allah subhanana wa ta'ala exonerated and cleared him from this evil accusation so this was the thinking this was the illogical way of thinking that the Jews had and these are some of the some of the things that they said against andam So also when the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam when Allah subhana wa ta'ala revealed to him some ayat about jahannam and the punishment of the fire the Jews they would say don't worry about this don't worry about jannam don't worry about the fire even if we are punished in the fire of jahannam we will only be punished temporarily for a period of 7,000 years we'll only be in jahannam for 7,000 years. And 1,000 years with Allah is one day.

[00:08:59]And one day with Allah is like 1,000 years of what you count. So these Jews, they would say, "Don't worry. Even if we go to Jahannam, it's no big deal. We'll only be there for 7,000 years. And 1,000 years is actually one day. So it becomes just 7 days. What's the big deal? Seven days in jannam we can deal with it. So this is what they were thinking. Can you touch even the fire of this dunya for one split second?

[00:09:24]Subhan Allah. But this was their way of thinking. So this is what they would say. And Allah subhanaa tala addressed this as well. The Jews they would say the fire will only touch us for a few days for a certain number of days.

[00:09:38]Allah subhana wa ta tells the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam to respond to these people. Have you taken a covenant with Allah subhana wa tala for this? Did he make a promise to you that you will only be in the fire of Jahannam for a few days? If Allah made this type of promise with you, then he will never break his promise. But did he make that type of promise with you or are you speaking about Allah with that which you have no knowledge? And that's exactly what they were doing. So this was the attitude. It just gives you an idea into the mindset of the Jews of Medina and what the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam had to deal with regarding them.

[00:10:20]So these were the biggest enemies of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. So now get an idea about the threat to the Muslims. So they had threat from inside Medina. The Jews were a threat. The mafi the hypocrites were a threat. And also there were some mushrien who were left over. Most of the tribe of and khazraj they accepted Islam but there were a few left over who didn't accept Islam and they remained upon so they were a threat to the Muslims as well. From outside Medina there is the threat of the Qur from Makkah. They still harbor that hatred and anger towards the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and the Muslims. And also there were other tribes in the Arabian Peninsula, other tribes of the Arabs whose whole life was basically going into other cities and fighting them and conquering those cities. There were some tribes of Arabs who used to just live on this. So that this threat was there as well. From the there was a man named Abdullah Ibul and you will hear his name a lot when you study the s of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam because he was the head of the and he was a person who caused many many problems for the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and for the Muslims in al- medina. So the reason why Abdullahb had such hatred for the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and the Muslims was because just before the prophet sallallah.aii wasallam became known to the people of Medina.

[00:12:05]Before Islam entered Medina there was no real leader for the people of Medina.

[00:12:12]The leaders of and the leaders of Khazaraj they had died in different battles. So all of the big shot leaders had died.

[00:12:21]Now there was only the second level of leadership and none of them was really in a position to take complete command of the city. So there were a few people who were hoping that they would get that leadership position to become the head of Medina and Abdullahbul he was one of them. He was one of them who was in line to become the leader of Medina.

[00:12:49]But when the people of Medina when the and the when they accepted Islam and they decided to have the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam come to Medina and become their leader then Abdullahb's dreams of leadership his dreams of power they were destroyed. So because of this he had a very strong jealousy and hatred towards the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam in particular.

[00:13:15]Also there was a man by the name of Abduli ibn and he was also in line to become one of the leaders of al- medina before the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam came into town. So he was ready and he was hoping that he would get that position of leadership.

[00:13:41]He was known as Abu Alib.

[00:13:45]And the reason why he had this nickname alib it means a monk. And you know from Christianity the monks are those people who spend all of their time in meditation and prayer. They have a special type of dress that they wear. So this man he was known as Abu A because he had actually traveled to Asham and he was influenced by the Christian monks that he saw there. So when he came back to Medina, he started wearing that type of clothes as well and he started to act like he was always in a state of meditation and prayer as well. So he adapted basically the habits of the monks that he had met over there in Syria. So he became known in Medina as Abu Amir Alib Abu Amir the monk and he was also in line to become the leader of al Madina. So it was basically between these two people. It would either be Abu Amir Alib or Abdullahb Ib Sal.

[00:14:49]But both of their dreams were dashed.

[00:14:52]Both of their hopes and aspirations were destroyed when the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam came in and he assumed the leadership role. So of course they both had hatred towards the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. But they dealt with that hatred in different ways.

[00:15:07]Abdullah ibub he became a mafi.

[00:15:10]He pretended to become a Muslim so that he would stay relevant in the society and he hoped that he could damage Islam from the inside and eventually he would get what he wanted and that was leadership of the people. So this was the strategy of Abdullahb. As for Abu Amir, he decided to just leave Medina.

[00:15:30]If he couldn't be the leader, he said, "Okay, I'm just leaving Medina." He left Medina and he went back to Syria where he had traveled before. He left Medina and he went to Syria. And the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam said regarding this man, don't call him Alib.

[00:15:46]Don't call him the monk. Call him alas instead. So from that point on, he became known. Instead of Abu Alib, he became known as Abu Alas. Abu Amir, the wrongdoer, Alas.

[00:16:01]So this was the situation in Medina after the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam had arrived. And of course there was that danger and there was that threat to the security of the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam and for the Muslims and the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam he knew very well he knew that the situation is not completely safe. He knew he had enemies and of course Allah subhanana wa ta'ala is the protector and Allah subhanana wa ta'ala is the one that we depend upon for safety but at the same time Allah subhana wa ta'ala commands the people to take precautions.

[00:16:41]So when the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam arrived in Al Medina and he knew that there were these threats from different angles, he made sure that he took all the precautions that were necessary and he as the leader he knew that he would be the main target of the enemies. So he had to take precautions for himself to keep safe. So he actually said after his arrival in Medina, I wish that there was someone from my companions, a good man, a pious man from my companions who will protect me tonight.

[00:17:20]So he knew that he had to make sure that security was in place and he actually made arrangements to have a bodyguard for himself, the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam. So of course when the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam asked for a bodyguard this is an honor this is an honor to to keep the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam safe by the permission of Allah. So when he heard this request from the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam to have a bodyguard, he put on his armor and he kept his weaponry with him and he acted as a bodyguard for and Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala finally gave the Muslims permission to physically defend themselves because they were in a situation where they needed to show strength. They needed to show that they were strong. They needed to show that they had power.

[00:18:20]So Allah subhana wa ta'ala gave them this permission.
