The nectar flow is on. Thank you Jesus!本站添加:
All right, now, before I I leave the Abbey this morning, I think I'm going to have to grab me a little bit of breakfast.
Look at the blackberries that I got right there by the peacock pen.
So, let me take a few minutes and grab a a gang of these guys and eat them.
Thank you, Jesus. Woo.
Hello.
>> [laughter] >> Mr. Ed here. And today is May the 18th, 2026.
And it's early, right around 7:00 in the morning.
And Phil and I, not good time Charlie, not record Ralph, but Phil, farmer Phil and I are fixing to head out once again. Uh this will be for me, that'll be the fourth time that I'm heading out uh to put honey supers uh on on of our all our hives. That's right. I'm getting ready to travel the 90-plus miles uh making the big round again to all of our um yards.
Uh but this time it's going to be a little different because the last time when in the last video um well, I'd say the first video of this little series, I went out there and I might only put four boxes on. Well, this will be the fourth visit out there and uh you will see how many um boxes, honey supers that we've stacked on on on some of our on our hives. And what is it >> [laughter] >> that I'm trying to uh stay ahead of? I got to be just landed on the camera. What am I trying to stay ahead of? This is what it is right here. Look at this.
The tallow.
And we've got, you know, several varieties of tallow out here. Uh and this this variety is one that's blooming a little bit early, maybe a week or so sooner uh than others. But it is getting ready to This afternoon the bees will be on this one for sure uh cuz you can see it's already turned yellow.
And all I'm doing is trying just to keep right ahead of the the bees in bringing in all their um the nectar from from this because this is our last last last major uh flow. Uh we've got probably a good 2 weeks of this tallow um that that we can capitalize on by um putting supers on and and getting the nectar from it. And like I said, the uh it's in different varieties of it in here.
Uh on this on this tree right here, you can see the the tassels are still standing up. They're gold.
But they're standing up.
Uh they'll they'll be falling down in maybe in a day or two these will be falling down. But let me uh as I was walking over here I saw another one right inside of the roadway right here.
Well, here's one.
They've already started falling down on this one.
And then this one right up here.
Those They're falling down on those.
And yet this one right next to it They're still just standing straight up.
So, there's different stages of development uh for for these tallow. And that's what I say, that the It's going to last Hopefully it'll be 3 weeks. I don't think so, but hopefully 2 weeks for sure and hopefully 3.
And uh I've got my fingers crossed that after I get the boxes on this week, I'll still have one more week uh to throw on a few more.
But by the grace of God, no matter what or how many honey supers I put on there God will bless us with with an abundance of nectar that'll turn honey.
And uh we're going to have us a nice nice harvest. So, let me show you the van.
It's already loaded. Phil's out there waiting for me. It's already loaded to go and we're going to start on our trek uh that little 9-mi journey today uh adding kind of supers.
Let's get wrangling. So, Phil and I are up here at at the Let's see, this is our St. Anthony yard. And you can see the van is completely full of equipment. And bring it around here, Phil, and show them the other side, too. I mean, it's it's We've got 40 boxes inside of it as well as all of our excluders right there.
Now the thing that we're doing different now is that prior to what what you see in the in the van right now, we were running all of our boxes uh we were using nine frames in them. Well, I've already put out somewhere between 80 and 90 boxes with nine frames in it.
And now I've run out of the nine frames. And what we're doing now is putting 10 frames in there. And the reason we're we're using 10 frames because even though some of this comb is drawn out, I can't use it for nine frames because it's not drawn out all the way. But, for the most part, it looks really really good. And so now we're just using this stuff um as 10 frames because if if I would try to go with nine frames with this, I'd be worried that um the bees would draw that wacky comb on it and but with with what we got on it right now, it'll be fine. So, we I've probably got um 40 boxes of of this stuff that's with with the 10-frame um partially drawn out comb on them.
And then, if we go through those 40 boxes, well, then I'm going to have to revert just to using my uh my triple-coated foundation uh frames. But, I I got my fingers crossed.
I hopefully that we're going to uh be actually using some of those triple-coated frames that we'll get rid of these 40 boxes uh and then start using that. So, we're going to go over there. We just lifted one top and it's got uh the third honey super on it.
And look how many bees when we took the the inner the uh cover off, the inner cover was completely full. So, let's look and see what we're looking like inside of this box. Now, I I'd say I put this box out here 2 weeks ago is my guess. And you see there's only nine frames in there. And with the nine frames, you can see you can see So, Phil, show this right here.
You can see how the bees will draw the comb out beyond the edge of the frame because they're not tight in there.
And I'm going to pull out I'm going to pull out one this outside frame and see what show you what what they've done.
Now, remember this this this is all comb that was drawn out, right? So, you'd expect to see it.
So, here is what they've done.
And look at the nectar that's inside of this.
I mean, this thing is loaded loaded with nectar.
I don't want to pull out any of those things too great, but since it's an outside frame right here, you can imagine what the inside frames are going to look like. So, really good. This one uh because our tallow is like I said earlier, it's two full weeks of the flow. And these guys will have no place to put the stuff coming in. So, in that case, we're going to be throwing on this next box. And instead of nine frames, this got 10 frames. But, it's comb that's already partially drawn out. So, the bees won't waste a lot of time drawing out new wax.
They're just going to add the wax to the existing wax and speed it up. So, I'm hoping that we're going to pull two boxes of honey off of this hive in just about four more weeks. Three weeks for sure.
All right. We're going to go through the line of them and and just keep on adding. I think at the end of the day I'll show you tell you what what how many boxes that we put out. And if we come across anything really exciting, we'll be sure to show it to you.
All right, we're getting back to work.
So, we're at our St. Michael's yard and you all pretty much know what we got out here. And this is this is what we're we're looking at um quite often is the bees gathering up on the the front of the boxes and partially has got to do with a lack of space and uh probably also the that that there's nothing no flow going on. But look how many hives that me and farmer Phil have got to go through. We I think there's like 40 of them back here. And here's another example of um the bees on the front right here.
And just if you can just see if y'all can listen.
The hum of bees is phenomenal. It it's just a one of the perks of being a beekeeper and you get to be in that presence of of the bees and them doing what they they they do. And you know, that's a good sound right there. That's that's the sound of happy bees right there. That's not a sound of bees getting ready to swarm or something bad happening.
That's happy bees and they're happy because nectar is coming into their hives.
And they are designed to go work for it.
It's just like as beekeepers this is this is the joy that we can experience, you know, of the bees doing this stuff.
Cuz everybody else they they don't they don't get to experience this.
Come on. Now here's here's this is a dirt rooster piece of equipment right here. Look, there's the front of the the bottom board on the ground. Oh, that's so embarrassing. All right, I'm not really embarrassed.
Let's see what else we've got down here.
So, again look look at all the hives with the bees on the front of them.
And to me, oh, that's that's good stuff.
That is really really good stuff.
I'm almost down to the end.
Here's another one with two of them.
They're they're bees on them.
And then we got this one down here.
All right.
So, there's our line of work.
I'll get back on and show you or tell you how many boxes we put out out here. I'm saying that we're going to Phil, what's your guess?
>> 10.
>> Uh I say 10 to 12. That's what I think, too. Watch, we'll only put three.
Let's find out.
So, this was the very first hive that we we got and and I knew it was going to need a box and and look at the bees in here. I That's 10 frames packed. Now what what you really can't see and actually I'm going to get Phil to hold the camera cuz I'll pull one of these frames and I'll show you what's going on is that the bees, though the honey may not be capped, I can I can almost guarantee that it's full of nectar. And these bees have no more space uh to to store nectar. And I did not smoke these bees, and look how calm they are. All right, let's pull a frame.
Again, I'm going to just pull an outside frame cuz I don't I really don't want to disturb them.
Look at all these. Look at the There is no There is not an empty cell in there.
Packed full of nectar.
You see all that? Well, I hope y'all can see it. And this is an outside frame.
So, you you you can imagine these frames on the inside what they look like. Now, more than likely these frames right here in the center, these four and five frames in the center, these contain brood in them, more than likely.
Um I'm not even going to look cuz I'm not going to. We're just going to throw the the uh uh excluder onto this box and and and another honey super, and we're moving on down the line. Well, Farmer Phil and I got this whole yard worked out. How many was it? 43 boxes?
>> 43 43 hives.
>> And we had how many?
>> 10 boxes. We added 10 boxes.
>> Farmer Phil, his guess was 10, mine was 12.
So, we'll get that bee off of me, and we're moving on to the next yard. All right.
Getting ready to cross the bridge to get back to the honey house.
And as soon as we uh get our way back there, I'm going to show you what the back of the van looks like cuz you ain't going to believe it.
Hey Phil.
>> Yeah.
>> I want you to open up that door right there so they can see the the inside of the van.
>> [laughter] >> So, you remember when we left here this thing was full full full and now we got 1 2 3 six boxes left and we started with 40 and that's all that's left in here.
Huh?
Yeah, we had a full day out of there. We got rid of what is it? 34 boxes? Yep.
That's what I call a good day.
Now, I got one more thing I want to show y'all.
All right, so on the back porch of the honey house oh, we got a bunch of scout bees uh on this little trap right here.
But, that's not what I want to show you.
I want to show you this hive right right here.
So, this this is our um the the swarm that I caught my very first swarm this year and I want to show you something.
Let me take the lid off.
I use a a cover um it's a a tempered glass cover right here and you can see what the bees have done. Now, this is the third honey super and it's all capped honey up here in the third box. Now, tomorrow I'm going to come in here and I'm going to put on another honey super. Look at Look at all the comb up in there.
And this is a nine frame. And then you can see how the bees draw out that comb.
Yeah, that's really slick.
All right, time to close up this video.
So, here he is, Farmer Phil, actually Phil and I are in the same bee club in Abita, and when when Charlotte doesn't get to help me, I call on Phil, and he he's more than happy to help me. So, we did all that work today. You did all the work today.
>> And and and uh what did What do you think about what our bees are looking like out there?
>> Oh, the bees the bees look good. They they really do. They're they're active, they're busy, they're working.
>> And bringing in the nectar.
>> Bringing in the nectar, and then you pull a frame out of the the box, and you put that nectar in the sunlight, and it just glistens.
>> I'll take out the whole thing.
>> Yes.
>> So, what I want to point out, when I started this process uh showing video in here, this entire area was full of bee boxes, and now it is empty. So, we've only got, like I said, six more boxes that are in the van, and after that, then I'm going to have to start using just the regular uh triple coated wax foundation uh from Premier, and I still have about probably about 20 boxes uh of that left. And once that's over, that's all there is. We don't We won't have any more cuz I'll I would have put out um almost 150 honey supers.
>> And if if everything works out good, that means 150 supers full of honey.
>> [laughter] >> That's what I'm looking for.
>> That's and that's when the work begins.
>> Yeah, but it's it's that's a fun work too.
>> It is. It is.
>> we got we got the tools to make our job that job >> Yes, sir.
>> easier. So, that's That's I got. You got anything else?
>> Nope.
>> That's it. It was a It was a good day.
Can't complain. Weather was nice, no rain. The bees cooperated. I didn't get stung at all, so it was a good day.
>> All right, you ready?
>> Got it.
>> All right, so that's it for this one.
So, thanks for watching.
>> Keep on watching.
>> And we will be making more. God bless, Mr. Ed.
>> And Phil.
>> Farmer Phil.
>> Farmer Phil.
>> We're out until next video. God bless everybody. Thank y'all.
That's perfect.
>> Well.
>> Perfect.
And we even recorded it.
>> Oh.
