Giving boat shrink new life

[00:00:00]For the marinas around Lake Wallenpaupack, preparing for boating season starts months ahead of time like here at First Class Marina in Tafton.

[00:00:08]After the boats are summarized, piles of blue shrink wrap that protects the boats from the winter elements are left behind. Volunteers with different agencies across Wayne County have started a new effort to recycle it. One by one, bundles are tossed into the compactor truck to keep it out of landfills. Each wrap can weigh anywhere from 8 to 10 lb. Volunteers say to date they've been able to collect nearly 9,000 lb of plastic. A company called Ultra-Poly then turns the plastic into items like garbage cans, plastic benches, and other items.
