Inside Egypt’s Forbidden Bone Caves: Mummies, Desert Graffiti & Lost MegalithsAdded:
Ah, okay. Yeah. Was it hands? This is old.
>> That is very old. 3,500 years.
>> Yeah. 3,500 years old.
These are bones, guys.
We're going to go in and and and get a closer look on the These guys look different. Their eyes look different.
>> This is the arm. Arm, right?
>> And it has cloth, >> I think. Yeah.
>> The graffiti is just everywhere on all these rocks.
Um so what happened here? What uh why why the destruction?
>> This someone is the >> someone is buried there.
>> Okay. Well, these you'll see notches for hinges. You see these in the ancient granite temples. Hi guys. Have I get a video for you? We are in the Egyptian desert halfway to Azwan.
The rocks the rocks that we're walking on guys here. Look at this. This this rock here. Wait. this rock and then we have graffiti right here right at the edge here. See just graffiti and rocks just all over the floor here at the very back we are going to see several temples. One of them belonged to the great king Amhut III the grandfather of king tut at that side. So can't wait to show you around. Let's go.
>> So you guys are in for a good treat. You ready? Let's go.
Alab is in a remote area of the Egyptian desert.
The parts that I'm going to show you are unaccessible to the public.
So, here we go.
We're driving in this desert area with gosh tombs in these mountains everywhere.
Uh-huh.
And uh we're looking for the ancient, strange, and unknown.
This is definitely ancient. This is definitely strange. And I guarantee you it's mostly unknown.
This is a temple along the way to Azwan and we're getting a special special little entrance here and uh we're going to see what we see in this.
So, we are going into these pre-dynastic caves and as you can see they are not your typical structured tombs. They are just holes in the bedrock.
Look at this. This is built right into the uh >> right into the uh >> What are we doing?
>> Bones.
>> Okay, we're going to go in here.
>> Okay, guys. Look, we're going we're going in here.
>> This is um We're going in. Yeah, >> this room from the second one. That's fine. No problem.
>> Oh, I see.
>> Yeah. Come on.
Okay, guys. Okay, this is really cool.
Ready? Come here. Yeah.
So, we have um Ah, okay. Yeah. Was it hands and uh the wrist? Yeah, >> this are hands. And we have the foot.
Yeah. Femur. This is the arm. arm right >> and it has cloth I think. Yeah, it has >> it's wrapped actually.
>> Yes, >> it's wrapped by linen.
>> Yes, >> that mean these are not modern uh bone.
These are all bones. You can see the linen right here.
>> Yes, >> this is from the ancient time.
>> And we have a spine here.
>> Preserve it.
>> The spine.
>> And we have a jaw.
>> Yeah.
>> Right here.
>> Jaw. What is this right here? What is this?
>> I think it's a part of the foot.
>> That Yeah. Is that a shoe?
>> Yeah. Part of the No, not the shoe. This is a bone actually. It's a bone. Yeah.
>> Yeah, it is.
>> Okay. And let me see the hand. You can see the layers of the liners.
>> We have We have We have some bones on here. Those are animals, right? Animals.
No right here. Might be. I don't know here. I don't know.
>> Yeah. But we have um Yeah. Look at this.
Look at the hand. I love the hand. You have the nails, too. Still the nails still in there.
>> Yes.
>> And these are the teeth.
>> Uh-huh.
>> And these are people that were buried here long ago.
>> Exactly. The most of the tombs are family tombs here by the way.
>> Okay. There's um Okay. And this is uh I imagine >> shaped >> deep.
>> Oh, this is a wolf.
>> What?
>> A wolf.
>> A wolf. Okay. A wolf. Yeah.
>> Okay. And the arm here. Okay. Yeah.
>> You can see the raisin parts. Some of the resin. You can see the the the ribs.
The ribs. Uh-huh. Let me get the >> to preserve.
>> Okay. Yeah. And you can see the ribs there.
>> So, this is the burial chamber there.
You can go down.
>> Let me hold the light for you.
>> Yeah.
First step.
>> Yep.
>> Okay.
>> Very interesting place.
>> What is this? There's this.
>> This is a part of the bones as well.
>> Yeah.
>> It's a hand part of the hand bones.
>> Part of the hand >> as I mentioned. Can you Can you smell?
>> Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
>> This is a This is a family tube. Yeah.
Smells bad.
>> You have a part of the arm.
>> Arms here.
>> Uhhuh.
>> Can you still see bones down?
>> I still see bones. Yes.
>> You can go down if you want.
>> Good. Yeah.
>> Yes.
>> You want me to hold the camera for you?
>> You watch I Many times.
>> Hey.
>> Oh, yeah. Yeah.
So these are bones from maybe the workers >> from the the owners of the tombs, the supervisors and the were living in the area.
>> Okay.
Yeah. It's has a old smell to it.
Sliding a little bit. That's good.
>> That's good. Yeah, >> very good. And we have um let's see what I can see here. We have uh some uh femurss and very interesting.
Very interesting.
See?
Huh? The bats. Here's some bats.
The bats are a He's so cute. Look how cute he is.
And And this look at Look at this.
Ah. Yeah.
>> Look at that. Where's it?
>> Yeah. From here. Yeah.
>> Yes. The pictures that he is showing me are the heads that were found in these caves. And as you can see, they look like they are elongated heads.
We have bones everywhere. Look, we have more bones here.
>> Here, this the finger is literally magnificent here. They are >> okay.
>> They hands >> I don't want to I don't want to step on any hand of of a woman. Actually, >> a woman. Why do you say it's a hand of a woman?
>> It's because of the nail. Let me see the bones here.
>> They are very thin.
>> Oh. Oh, wow. The whole body.
>> Yeah, the whole body right here. Here's the whole body. Like you >> We're trying to see. Look at this.
>> Why do you say it's a it's a woman?
>> Look at the small fingers.
>> Small fingers. Yeah.
>> Very thin. You can see the nails.
>> Yeah.
Look at this.
>> This is mommy's action.
>> I saw this. Yeah. Just let me do this real quick.
Some good footage. Yeah. And then Yeah.
And then the arm is crazy. Let me see the side of the army. Let me see the top of here.
Let me get up here.
This is just crazy. Yeah. Okay. And you say it's a girl? Why?
>> Just I It seems to be a girl. It's a very thin fingers. I see.
>> He's saying all girls have small fingers.
Yeah. Yeah. She has long nails.
>> Very good little her little friends.
That's what I smell. I smell the bad the baptis.
And as we go in, this is definitely something you haven't seen.
We have mummified remains. Um, we have someone's hand here. You can even see there's the the nail is still on there.
Uh, part of a femur. We have a spine.
Someone's spine is there. Uh, part of the neck. We have um spine as well. You can see part of the ribs there. And this is an arm, a mummified arm. You can still see some of the cloth on there.
Position. There's some of the original cloth from uh thousands of years ago.
They're saying this is from uh like three maybe three or four BC. Um uh this is I think it's an arm pelvis here. There's someone's pelvis.
We have mold growing here. I should be wearing a mask.
Um yeah, a lot of mold here. Um jaw.
Some of the teeth are missing. And uh yeah, that's it.
We also have broken bones all along here.
More bones here.
And more bones in there. Let's see if we can get Let's see if I can zoom in here.
Here we go.
Ancient bones from they're saying 3 or 4 BC.
We're going to go back out. Let me give you it. This is on the way to Azwan.
Nobody stops here. Um, I'm with Jacob, the an Egyptian archaeologist, and uh he's uh he's he's led led me here.
But uh there's a lot of bones. I see rib bones there. Um off.
Yeah, the jaw.
Oh, okay. Let's go back out.
Bones.
>> Bones. Yeah. Huh?
>> I told you.
>> This is what an arm told me an armor.
>> Wow.
Wow.
>> Still going to go there.
>> This is old.
>> That is very old. 3,500 years.
>> Yeah. 3,500 years old. And they built it right into into the the solid rock here.
So, we have all this ancient pottery just laying around everywhere. This is um Oh, look.
Nobody comes here, guys. This is a This is a exclusive uh trip for you guys. And you can just see all the pottery laying around everywhere. It's everywhere. Just let it l just Yeah. I don't want to I don't want to step on it. Yeah. This is a preserved form.
Huh?
You just see it laying everywhere, guys.
I want to give you guys a 360 of where we are.
There's There's nothing around us. We're the only ones here.
We're here to see this ancient graffiti here and uh it's in hieroglyphs.
Correct.
>> Oh, they actually the name is written is Mary Ra.
Mary Ra means the beloved from Ammon.
Beautiful god.
I can see it's very but it's it's it's written in a very >> not really advanced way.
>> Okay, we're going up to a broken structure. I can already tell from the toe marks and we're going to see what we see here.
Ah, okay.
Wow. Okay, guys. So, let's see how old this is. We have some Egyptian writing here, right?
And then we have a cow. A little little little probably a little older. But as we go over here, look what we have here.
Petetroglyphs.
These are petetroglyphs.
We go beyond Egyptian writing and uh we get the petetroglyphs here.
Let's uh examine these here.
We have tool marks here again. So there was some kind of building here long ago and so so there was a lot of people here in this area.
There was um you can see that a lot of people made their mark on this. It's too bad we can't date it.
Yeah.
But uh this guy knows where we're going.
Oh yeah. This is older.
>> Yeah.
>> Much older. And we have a Wow. I mean, people felt compelled to to make their mark on these on these rocks long ago. So, let's see if we can kind of date get a roundabout time when these were done.
Let's see. Now, I'm looking for uh water erosion at a certain point.
Like this right here, we can see where it was eroded is water damage, water erosion from long time ago cuz there hasn't been water here for a long time.
But we have people that were living here then before the time the water was here.
Let's see what else we have here. Here we have a boat. We have a boat here. And uh someone took the time to do all this.
So, the least we can do is show what they've done. Okay. Okay.
>> Yeah.
>> We have more Egyptian graffiti here.
Look.
>> And let me show you how high this is.
Someone took the time to carve this into stone long ago.
And um this is where we are.
in the Egyptian desert. In here, you can see lots of lots of caves that uh lots of tombs in here.
Now, I am taking you to the mysterious Elephantine Island in Azwan. It has megalithic and Egyptian civilizations.
It's a mysterious island that I just need to show you. So, here we go.
So, here we are at Elephantine Island and uh we have this granite uh I don't know what this is, but we're going to we're going to look in here. Yes.
just huge chunks of granite just thrown about for some reason. This place was just his place was just destroyed.
It used to be part of something before, but uh we don't know what it is.
Something destroyed this.
Wow.
Not too precise.
Look at this.
Wow.
Huh? We have a stencil here.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. Uh-huh. I see it.
>> This can >> right here. Yeah.
>> We have a stencil up here. Yeah.
Look at this.
Wow. See, as I feel here, I can feel a uh you can see this ledge here. See the lip, the lip there, how it comes up. It it it actually comes up. Actually, you have the lip and it actually comes up like this up and comes up.
Okay.
Yeah, you guys. Yeah.
It's beautiful, right?
Yes.
He lives. Here's the famous box that I've been after.
Okay.
just just torn broken apart.
It's almost as if a bomb, right? Yeah.
>> Turkish people.
>> The Turkish people. Yeah. And then look at this.
Can you feel me?
Just look how big this thing is. And look at the precision that we hand here have here. This is one solid piece of granite laying on its side.
And amidst all the other granite that's just it looks like a bomb went off here.
It looks like we got a wrecking ball and just just destroyed it. This is on its size. Imagine if we had to pick this up and put it up on its side. It's absolutely huge. And look at this precision. You can see I'm going to bring the camera closer in a minute so that you can see the details on this.
But you can see where they went on a uh Yeah. Yeah. Go ahead. Jacob's Jacob's you doing the camera. You can see how there's a line here. It's pretty straight. It goes all the way up and then they went again with one line. How did they do this? They wasn't sanding cuz in order to do sand, they'd have to sand just in this little line right here and then this this little line. Why would they do that? No, it's one line going up, then another line going up, then another line going up. Jacob, do you see what I'm saying? If they were sanding, it would not have a line going up, and another line going up. Or this, >> cuz you're sanding, you're going like this, you know, it would be round.
>> So, this looks like it was um toolled.
>> Yeah. And actually polish it to get this curve.
>> Yeah.
>> And to polish this way. And I wish I had my laser with me. This it looks extremely straight. So to chisel, here's here's my here's my here's my on this.
If you're chiseling away, let's say you're chiseling off this and all of a sudden it breaks.
>> You need a whole new rock. Doesn't make sense. So it sounds to me like they chiseled it with a copper hammer the first time exactly the way they did it.
Otherwise, it would break. So, I don't know how they I don't know how that happens.
>> Push it out.
>> Yeah. You want to push it up? Yeah.
Here.
Let's look on the other side right here.
Look at this.
Where's the ent opening? Is there opening >> the other side? Okay.
Can you imagine how big this thing is to move? It's on the top. Okay.
Let's see. Ah, I see. Okay. Yeah.
>> Yeah. Let me see. Let me see. So, it had doors before. You can see the the notches for the door here. Ah, okay. Up there. Yeah. Okay. Look. Yeah. We can go up there. Okay. Let's go up there. You can see the notches for the the hinges for the door. Let's go. So, we're going up.
Now, these hinges are um the same hinges that you see in in the megalithic Peru.
Megalithic Peru um megaliths or megalithic cruise. These you'll see notches for hinges. What kind of door would you put on this?
It's a >> keep you taking videos and just move the canvas to the other side. This is a surprise. Look out here. Okay. Sorry.
>> Behind you. Listen.
Oh no.
The precision is unbelievable. It's amazing. So now Okay, we're going to go here.
H just uh this just boggles my mind. So, this is going to tell you how old this place is. We have dovetail clamps in here. Dvet tail clamps were used in some of the oldest parts, some of the oldest megaliths throughout the world.
And uh Okay.
Okay.
So, here we have these are original stones here from the early from the earliest earliest uh settlement here.
This island goes back for 4 and 4,500 years or more. So, um, some of this has to be ancient.
You can just see pottery shards everywhere.
I don't know. Yeah, we have clothes.
>> Just close. Yeah, >> Joseph.
>> Oh, there's someone is the girls.
Someone is buried there. Okay. Well, okay. Yeah.
Let's dig in.
Now I am taking you to Abu Simbel is three and a half hours from Azwan. A long drive, but it was well worth it.
>> All right, guys. We're going to um we're going in the entrance to the Sims temple. This temple was was um relocated. They they they put a dam in the Nile River and um with a dam it would have been covered. So this was painfully and meticulously reconstructed here so that the world can enjoy it.
Oh wow, look at this.
Wow. Oh my god, these things are huge.
Okay, we're going to have fun on this.
Look how big this is.
Wow.
>> I can't get this egg.
All right, guys.
Can you film me?
This is the ear of that head. This is huge on a scale. On a human scale, this is up there. What did they use? Ladders, scaffolding back when was this 44 BC? When was this when was that spells?
>> This is uh 3,200 years.
>> 3200 years. So, we got 4,000 years. So, um, ladders ladders to to to to to chisel it this ear.
It's it's crazy. And so when they were forming this, were they on ladders this this high? You can see how big the things are. This is they had uh they had piece and and and this is the crown. This is the crown that goes on top. You can see the ones up there. The crown. This is it. This is doesn't look at big yet there, but look at how big this thing is. It's huge.
>> This is the ground goes goes up there.
You imagine?
>> I mean, when they when they um uh Jacob >> Yeah, >> Jacob's filming, guys. Um when they move these things, they needed cranes, right?
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. H how difficult was it?
>> It's not easy. Okay. So, >> you know, it leads you to question how do they do this beautiful?
>> We really felt this actually that how difficult it is by moving removing the temple actually after uh building the high dam. The temple was about to be covered under the water. So, we had to move it. We felt how difficult.
>> Yes.
>> To dismantle and remove was a very big challenge.
>> So, back then they didn't have the wheel.
They had a rock hammer and a copper chisel. But look at the look at the precision on each one. Each one is is almost the same. You see he's saying you can see the the aging of it, but it's done with precision, you know, and imagine I want you guys to I want you guys to imagine there. So here we are with a rock hammer carving this and boom, it breaks. We need a whole new rock to redo it. How does that happen?
So, it leads me to believe that they chiseled this and got this right the first time with no mistakes cuz otherwise they would have needed a only rock this big.
So, how does that happen? When they're chiseling these lines, when they're chiseling this, and if this cracks and breaks off, they need a whole new rock.
Think about it. Um, it's amazing. So, uh, we're going to go inside. It took us three and a half hours to get here.
>> Is it worth it?
>> Where where are you going to see something like this?
>> Yeah, >> this is one of a kind in the world. This is, um, this head is that head, you know, it just gives you a scale of just how big this thing is. And, um, it's like beyond comprehension. So, uh, uh, we're going to look we're going to look around.
>> So, this is Jacob, the Egyptologist.
He is awesome. He's become a good friend of mine. He goes out of the way.
>> Yeah.
>> Out of the way. I exceeded my expectations.
>> You guys have to come to E. This is one of the most magnificent temples we have right here. The temple of Abu. We're talking about 3,200 years. The uh miracle of this temple that it was moved one day from over there that lake to right here. It was very very big challenge to move this temple and as I mentioned and as you mentioned before the temple supposed to be covered under the water especially after building the high but we managed to made it and move the temple 1960 till like 1968.
The temple is phenomenal. The paintings are very very preserved. start showing us the second his battle against the tites the phen phenomenal holies how the sun rises like 60 m deep from through a very small door to the holy of holies it's so beautiful worth it coming here you have to come I'm going to leave his information in the description below so if you want to get a hold of Jacob it's well worth your time now let's go explore >> I happen to get the temple all to myself so I'm just going to do a walk through straight in so that you can see all of its grandeur.
Oh, wow.
Look at this.
Let's see. We have some humans in here.
I always say scale. But uh you can see how big these tab these these are.
They're absolutely humongous.
Made out of one stone, right?
>> Yeah.
>> Made out of one single piece of stone.
that seems to be the uh the trademark of of of megalithic structures, ancient megalithic structures around the world.
We have the Romans who built these um built that tried to simulate these but their their construction is in pieces.
Uh but uh the ancient stuff is is one one one piece.
says there's a lot of um it seems like there's a lot of torture.
A lot of torture in here.
It seems odd that an advanced civilization would uh like that can build something like this would be in in uh in more.
We're going to go in and and and get a closer look on the the faces of these these uh these statues in the center of of they look very similar to the um I think it's neuralgic tribe of Sardinia.
>> Can you see the resemblance big eyes?
Um it would it would it would stand a reason that that if these were protected inside that they would be a little more um uh uh preserved, but yet they're not.
Um we see we see a on this one here.
>> The crown is a bit different. Uh look at the look at the crown on this guy here.
It's um and someone on this one back in uh 1882 1832 carved their name carved their the date on there person. Then we have uh um Hawthor here. We have Hawthor here and uh holding holding some tablets here. Uh this is so and then we have I don't know if you can see the date here. I'm going to zoom in on it so you can see the date before someone dead.
It's either 1832, it could be 1632.
And uh we go up in the Morehead and look at their eyes. It just looks strange. It doesn't look like the uh the Egyptian gods, the Egyptians that we see out front.
It's different.
>> The precision isn't there. And you would think that the precision would have lasted since they've been inside the whole time. It hasn't, which leads me to believe that they may be much older.
And we have a whose face is missing.
This is very Hey explorers.
Do you want to see some of the ancient, strange, and unknown in Egypt? Jacob's the guy you to see. Jacob, tell him.
>> Hello, guys. You're more than welcome to Egypt to come here and explore Egypt with us. The uh most magnificent sad scene from the first step you you step in Cairo actually till Abu Samble to the most south of Kaiu. We're very happy to welcome you here in Egypt.
