So proud. inside you're like and you just wonder okay why is it not working for me where the voice is just like I'm not a money person I'd rather be happy than rich right as if happiness is is the consolation prize that you collect when the money thing doesn't work out for you like as if you can only pick one you can only be happy or have money and you know it's not true So the budgets, the side hustle, working harder, all of this motivation, the financial coach, everything that you're attempting to do, new strategies, new skills, they move the needle like a little, but then it always just snaps back. It always goes back. Little bit ahead, right back. One year you make a bit more money, the next year you make a little bit less. It averages out. and you put in plenty of effort. You work hard. The reason that it doesn't work is because effort, strategies, all these things are in your conscious mind. All right. Now, the science behind it.
Dr. Spiegel and his team at Stanford at the school of medicine and they published a study in the journal of cerebral cortex and they put 57 people inside fMRI machines in their scanners.
They hypnotized and three things lit up on their brain when they put them under. One was the dorsal anterior singulate cortex that went quiet. That's a part of your brain that worries. the what if loop. What if this? What if that? All of that went silent once they were hypnotized.
Next, there was the dorsal lateral preffrontal cortex and the aula. They all start firing together. They're planning your brain awareness, body awareness. It's getting locked in.
And Spiegel calls it a stronger body brain connection.
So in your normal thoughts, your brain and your body are running separate frequencies.
But then in hypnosis they merge. It's like you your brain and your body get into a flow state. And then the prefrontal cortex that disconnected from the default mode network like the the self-reflection circuit in your brain.
That's a part it's constantly watching.
It's constantly judging. It is narrating everything that's happening. Oh no, no, no. You're going to mess this up. That won't work out. You won't make the money. That shuts up. And when that shuts up for 25 minutes, your brain becomes the most suggestible thing on the planet. So whatever you tell it during that window, it accepts it as instructions, literal instructions. Now, if we connect that to the second study where the whole money thing really comes together, right?
In 2011, financial psychologist Brad Clotsz and Sonia Britt, they were at University of Kansas and they published a study in the journal of financial therapy and they surveyed 422 people on 72 different money related beliefs. They're looking at what they called money scripts. They were unconscious belief patterns that govern your financial behavior, your habits, and the financial results in your life.
And they found four. So, money avoidance, like the belief that money is bad and you don't deserve it. Money worship, the belief that more money is going to fix everything. The opposite.
You got money status, where your worth is determined by your net worth. And then money vigilance. It's like you're always afraid financially, right?
And the part of the study that the financial industry doesn't talk about very much is that three of those four scripts were significantly correlated with income and net worth. So meaning those scripts that are running your subconscious, they are predicting your money outcomes more reliably than your education, your skills, your network, who you know, the money you have, your work ethic. Like it's crazy. Think about that. Your subconscious money script is predicting your bank account, is predicting your annual and monthly income better than your education, better than the job you have, better than how many hours you work, who you know.
Now, what they found is that those scripts get installed in childhood by the way that money was talked about or not talked about or felt about in your house. The first tension at the beginning of the month, whether your parents thought 50% of of families get divorced, the number one cause for divorce is financial disagreements, financial problems. And all of this is happening by the time you're 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 years old. Most of it's by done by the time you're seven.
So the child's brain is absorbing information in the same neurological states that adults enter in hypnosis.
There's no filter. Everything that goes in is accepted as instructions. So that means that every money belief that you absorbed as a child was hypnotically encoded.
Not metaphorically. I'm not saying that as a metaphor. Literally the brain state. It was coded. It's the same delivery system.
So, when the budget that you have doesn't hold and and and the money doesn't come in or you can't go on this vacation that you want, you see someone else bought this clothes or that house or that car or they got that job, you're like, "Why does this keep happening to me?" It's because 30 years ago or 50 years ago or 10 years ago when you were a little kid, you absorbed it all. You don't even remember.
And the only way to overwrite that hypnotic suggestion is to enter the same brain state and update the instructions.
Now, years ago, I I was in my early 20s.
I'm broke. No matter how hard I work, I was still broke. See in your body where you clinch stress in your jaw or up here or in your butt or in your traps or in your feet. You curl your toes. You don't even realize you're doing it.
just allow the body to relax. Now, that's kind of an improv version of Spiegel from from his research that he used for induction with over 7,000 patients. So, that eye roll that triggers the dorsal anterior singullet and all that starts going quiet. The worry stop, everything kind of shuts down. And you want your conscious mind to shut down.
So, you take one deep breath [snorts] in through your nose [sighs] and out through your mouth. And I like to count one, two, three, four. And hold it for a couple seconds and just feel what it feels like. And then I let go.
Breathe out. 1 2 3 4. And at the bottom of my exhale, I do the same thing. I just hold it for a couple seconds. So it's like hold, exhale, hold, inhale, like that. And that brings us to step number two, which is to absorb. So you want to pick a real image from your life, like the kitchen of the house that you grew up in, the first car you ever drove, a specific scene, like with a real sensory detail, real memory.
And then you want to start adding detail like what was on that counter? What did it feel like? What did it smell like in that room? What time of day was it?
And the more specific that you get, the deeper your prefrontal cortex actually starts to link to the other parts of your brain that Stanford University was measuring.
And all of this is happening in real time. When you get more detailed with it, you start to activate those parts of your brain. And you just stay there for 90 seconds. That's what they showed in their research.
It's just enough time to stabilize this new brain state that you are in. And then after the 90 seconds in absorption, that's when you're in self-hypnosis. And that doesn't matter whether you feel it or not. There's a specific signature, a a brainwave state that you enter and it's not like a big sign that shows up, but you are in it. And once you're there is step number three, which is suggest suggestion. And this is the 60 seconds.
This is the active window for your brain. This is where the new money script actually gets written into the same neurological layer. Exactly where the old one was written when you were a child that is controlling and limiting how much money you make. And this is where almost everybody screws the whole thing up. All the money instructions.
They say like, I want more money. I want financial freedom. I want to be wealthy.
I want to get that job.
The brain doesn't hear those instructions correctly.
It just hears them as confessions.
Confessions of lack. So you just told your brain three times, four times that you don't have those things. And then the soil in your brain takes that and plants the exact opposite of what you want.
So you want to suggest in the present tense as if it's already true. Just short, specific, simple.

Just pick one of those, right? And and then just repeat it three times in your head. No urgency. Naturally, just let it flow.
And in that time window, when it starts to feel natural, your brain accepts it.
And then you open your eyes, don't check your phone, and go get a drink of water.
If you do it at night, just go right to bed. Don't turn on the TV. And that 60 seconds of active suggestion inside this 25m minute window for your brain changes everything. Now, your brain doesn't care about the length of the session. And it cares about the signature at the 60-second window, the suggestion.
