1979 Case 450B Dozer Rear Main Seal Install & Torque Converter Reinstall (Part 2)Added:
That's the answer apparently according to the worldwide web aka chat GPT.
Uh I because I don't have a lot of experience with this as far as a seal not retaining in a housing.
Uh I relied on the worldwide web uh according to chat GTP. Now initially I thought some sort of sleeve retainer. I was thinking like green Loctite was what the first thing that came to mind, you know, cuz we use that if we're putting on like a speedy sleeve, uh, something like that. And I know they use it for press fit and, you know, bearing retention stuff like that. And there's the, you know, penetrating grade and all sorts of stuff. Well, uh, Chat GTP did agree with me with that or Google, I should say, or whichever said that, you know, the green sleeve retainer and a couple different types of that depending on how loose it was.
>> Uh, it said not to, you know, goop it up with RTV, obviously. But the thing that it recommended first was this this aviation form gasket sealant. I've never never heard of it, never used it. It recommended this and then, oddly enough, it recommended uh the Indian gasket shellac. I think we talked about that yesterday cuz I mentioned seeing it here and I assume that's what that is is gasket shellac.
Now that was a little before my time. Uh I didn't have my ga glasses with me at napper. Uh but I asked him if he had aviation form gasket and he's like oh yeah and uh let's see here. So it states use brush to apply a thin even coat to each surface.
Allow to air dry a few minutes before fastening the parts into position for use on most types of gaskets, machine surfaces, and screw thread connections of airplane and automobile engines.
And then it goes on in a different language.
So that's what it states, but it said uh according to the worldwide web that the aviation form gasket was commonly used on the outside ring of of lip seals.
Not knowing any better, that's what we're doing. has to be better than what we have. I'll tell you that. The other thing I did is I grabbed a copious amount of brake parts cleaner and some gloves. I got I got the workbench all set up here. I'm going to get this cleaned off. We're going to form a gasket this thing back together. Uh I looked in service info on the repair manual and it states that from this hole down and on the oil pan flange, it wants um a RTV form in place gasket. So, I picked this up a small tube of ultra gray. So, we'll ultra gray here, ultra gray across the pan. Pretty common to ultra gray or to use silicone or RTV. Uh where the, you know, the black half oil pan comes together on the, you know, rear half here or on the front of the timing cover. Uh I believe when I put the oil pan gasket in, I did not do that because I didn't think I was pretty sure we were going to end up at this point at some point. And well, here we are.
I tried using the low VOC formula New York compliant for cleaning the part and then I just had to switch to the high VOC formula if you know what I mean. It's the same parts cleaner a lot of us use. It comes in a red can you buy it at the store.
You pay for it per gallon.
Best cleaner on the market.
slightly volatile, but gets her done.
I use a flat file across the back. Take off any ridges. Just kind of hold it flat on there. Give her the old scuffy around. Make sure everything's all good.
Stick that baby down in there.
Boom.
Bright and shiny. Now, before uh we get after this, I I want we got to get the back of the engine cleaned up. I'll save the uh parts cleaner, we'll call it.
For all the environmentalists out there probably not watching our show anyways who watches this crap there. Now we'll dry her off with the old parts cleaner.
Yeah, New York takes the fun out of everything, especially out of the brake clean.
Boom.
There it is.
It's ready to go back together. So, obviously at the point of this show airing, we've already done what we needed to do.
We've already put this thing together here.
And uh you know, some of you will comment what you use and what you would have done.
And uh I would still say put that comment because well I mean obviously at this point it's too late but if we have to redo it or if I need to know something like this in the future was this the best choice here in your opinion or what? See it looks a little streaky here. I'm just going to I don't know if you're supposed to stir it. shake it or what? Feels like it's thickening up a little.
Never used this stuff. Oops.
I picked this up some blue towels when I was at the napper. Also, supposed to be windier today, so that's probably going to screw with our video, but that's okay.
Well, she kind of thick, girl. You thick.
There we go.
This is fun.
All right, I'm going to give a little coating on the outside of the seal as well.
Whoa, dude. We don't want to lose that.
Get that up here.
What freaking mess I'm making.
>> Sugar.
Stuff feels awful sticky.
Yeah, it feels like it's getting tacky.
Interesting. Wonder what I mean. Hate to throw that whole dang bottle away if I'm never going to use it again.
Maybe I'll do some looking on the line.
Maybe it's stuff I should have been using my entire life. I just haven't.
Just the ceiling technology in today's cars like I work on. I don't use a lot of, you know, old school style gaskets, flat gaskets, uh, paper gaskets, quart gaskets, you know, that's kind of a kind of a thing of the past, man. Stuff is getting sticky.
All right. Well, let that sit for a few minutes and then I'll see if we can't tap her down in there. Grab us a seal driver. It's universal.
We're going to put the SKT. We're going to put the markings at the top.
Oh boy. See, you got goopy.
And it is flush all the way around.
I'm going to put it in just a little bit further.
We don't want to go too far.
So, it does have some resistance, which is fantastic.
Going to use the old acrometer, both of them. I might squint one.
Maybe just a blonde one down here.
That's what she looks like on the inside. You see it kind of almost like caramel. I don't know if it Oh, it definitely does not taste like caramel. Looks like caramel.
I don't know if it hardens up or or what.
So, we'll find out.
I don't know if we can use it to hold that gasket in place here. That that I don't know either.
You don't know what you don't know. Uh but I will Google it here. That way I can almost justify purchasing the entire container.
Wasn't crazy expensive or anything. It's just kind of stinks buying one time use stuff.
All right. Well, I'm going to let that sit. I'm going to go down and clean up that whole housing. I'm not going to show you guys that process.
I'm sure it's boring. Well, stuff is nasty.
Let's see if brake clean wipes it off.
It does.
And I looked at that tool again. There's a tool that you're supposed to have to install this that goes on the crankshaft.
Not just to align the housing, but there's one that, you know, opens up the lip seal. We're going to have to try to give it a, you know, a little wiggle.
We're going to have to be, you know, use our noodle here a little bit.
Uh because we don't have any of the specialty tools from from back in 79.
All right, that's that baby. Hello, Gingi. How you doing, baby?
Come here. How you doing, honey?
Huh? You out doing some hunting?
Ginger is her newest addition. She was just a little tiny baby kitten and somebody threw her out the ding window onto the road.
Left her left her to die. She was just all skin and bones and fleas and ticks when I found her.
Not anymore. You got pretty fat now. Ah, you got pretty fat now.
Yeah. Loves being outside.
kept her inside for a while till she put on some weight and whatnot.
See what this a little teeny tiny little kitten.
Ah, all right. Go do something.
I don't know why people do that. If you're just going to leave it and abandon it somewhere, just shoot the damn thing, you know, instead of letting it starve to death or just get ate by something. Anyhow, she took a little trip to the vet. Got her all fixed up and spayed and all that stuff. Well, this absolutely sucks. Uh, this stupid camera. This is why I quit using this one at the shop. Totally freaking forgot about it. After 10 minutes, when it switches to a new file, it quits recording.
Anyhow, I put the uh It sucks because look, I got the flywheel sitting up in there with one bolt. I had the camera sitting up here so I could show you guys putting the housing on.
Honestly, it wasn't that big a deal.
Just I put gasket shellac where the gasket went, stuck the gasket to the block, and then stuck the housing up there. We dry fitted it. It fit fine.
And then we lubed up the lip seal, slid it up on there, and at the corner of the oil pan and um the housing where it went, I just put a little bit of ultra gray.
Kind of the whole point of this whole video was this portion of it.
It upsets me. Um anyhow, cuz the camera does its little deal and it's like, "Oh, recovering video data." And then it doesn't.
Sorry, guys. Um, now I'm not going to scrap this whole thing. I'm too invested into it at this point.
Anyhow, I was just getting ready to go in and get some Loctite and um put the bolts into the in the flywheel. I got the flywheel up there just with one bolt. I'm going to get some Loctite, put it on the bolts, torque that down, and then it's time to get sketchy again. Uh, putting this back up in. Gosh dang it.
That's That's a real pisser. Uh, what I'll do for you, I'll do you a solid.
I'll pull the I'll pull the torque converter back off so you guys can see it. Or the not torque converter, but the flywheel uh as soon as I go in and get the uh get the bolts. It's really kind of kind of stinks.
All right. Hopefully the camera is still up there recording. I'll pull this back out.
There's what things look like.
Rest assured, it's all towards the factory specs.
Okay, you got to believe me on that one.
Trust me, folks. But I got to hurry here because the camera's going to do its thing again.
I just want that to hold still for a second. I've got the other bolts down here.
Got to get a little blue octite on them or whatever whatever color you think is appropriate.
That's what we're using.
I just like recording this stuff because it might be useful for somebody else.
Boy, it's frustrating when your stupid camera does that.
That's why I quit using that camera at the shop. Any of you guys that follow us on our regular channel may have heard me mention that and I know that I bought a new camera for there.
I couldn't just throw it in the garbage.
So, I brought it home expecting different results.
See here.
All right. Oh, maybe I can reach you. I decided to put safety third. Uh, Mrs. O came out here. She's right in the middle of doing her nails. What a trooper. So, she's got some gloves on and she's going to run the chain hoist. I'm going to go under there and uh two things. A, she's going to help us get it in. And B, if it falls on my face, she'll call 911 or fire up the excavator and pretend you never saw me.
>> Are you ready?
>> I'm ready.
>> Uh, let's try it. Go ahead and head up with it.
>> I don't know which way is up. That way.
>> Yes, ma'am.
Second.
Okay, get her done.
Oh, just a minute. Something's getting tight here. Just a second. All right.
Uh, let her down.
Okay. Just a second. Like grunting a little bit.
>> Is that difficult?
>> Yeah. Okay. Try and go up.
Take a second.
I just don't I really want to stick my face under it, but I kind of don't want to stick my face under it.
>> Yeah.
>> Do you like my face?
>> Yeah, I like it the way it is.
>> It might be a little different when this thing's over.
It seems like uh try to go up a little bit more.
Okay, just a second. Cuz you got a lot of power up there and you're kind of in a sketchy spot with the where it is.
>> Okay, try it a little bit more.
Okay, a second.
See, somebody changed the hydraulic hoses under here. Got rid of the metal pipe and put in just regular hydraulic hose. And it's that's what's screwing us.
Okay. It feels wiggly now. Try to go try to go up.
Okay, just say >> okay. Okay, go up. Yeah, [ __ ] bending the [ __ ] out of that.
>> Keep going.
>> There we go, boys.
>> You done?
>> Yeah. Yeah. Keep going.
>> It's still got to go up.
>> Keep going. Yeah.
>> Okay. Just a minute.
>> Like it's supposed to be >> I understand. I understand.
>> Okay.
>> Just keep going.
Okay. Stop. Okay. I'm going to come up there.
Hear my heavy breathing?
>> Mhm.
>> That means we're doing stuff.
All right.
>> You're dirty.
>> Yeah, you're dirty.
You're dirty.
>> Okay, I get a couple bolts. I'm going to go on the other side.
Hi, Weston.
Ah, sugar.
I'm assuming we're really close.
>> It looks like it.
Okay.
Let her down a little.
>> Wh Just a minute. Did you already do it?
>> I mean, I >> just You just >> It didn't really move. Like, it was just a wee little bit.
>> Sometimes you just need a little tweak.
We're not drawing it in with the bolts, folks. We're just putting a few bolts in it. And because it pilots into not just the bell housing, but into the flywheel as well.
Okay. But I want to put a couple bolts here just to kind of keep it kind of in the position it should be in.
Harbor Freight for the win on this one, huh? Though, >> yeah.
And some ingenuity.
Okay, I got enough bolts in it. I think it'll hold. Uh, so the problem is, like I say before taking it apart, I couldn't reach in there and turn the flex plate to get it where I needed it to line up the bolt holes. Um, so before I go and tighten this all up, I'm going to see if we can get some of the torque converter lined up with the flex plate or the drive plate, whatever you want to call it.
>> Um, >> yeah. So, that >> sounds good.
>> That's good idea. Y that's what I would do.
>> Now that I know I'm on the right track.
>> That's right.
>> Okay.
>> I won't tell you. I just let you let you >> Oh, you let me figure it out.
>> Yeah, that's how you learn. Hey, big heavy equipment guy here. Boys, >> need a creeper.
>> No, I'm not. I I would have to have it up on uh >> Not enough room.
>> Not enough room. Yeah.
>> Need a low pro.
>> No creepers. I'd rather just have a piece of cardboard.
>> Yeah.
>> Big cardboard guy.
>> That's how real men do it.
>> Huh?
>> What?
>> What' you say?
>> I said that's how real men do it.
>> Yeah, that's right. That's right.
Did the top go in flush?
>> Um, what do you mean? It's not like all the way in. Like, >> should it be touching?
>> Is it closer than it was?
Go ahead and take a little weight off it.
>> Oh, it didn't move.
>> It That's That's fine. Go ahead and take some weight off it. You're not putting weight on it, right?
>> No, I'm putting it down.
>> Okay.
And is it how close is it to the top? It >> It looks good. I mean, there's a gap probably about >> Can you get your fingernail in it? Type gap.
>> It's bigger than that. It's probably a little over eighth of an inch.
>> Okay.
>> Maybe.
>> I got a couple bolts in down here.
>> 28 of an inch or 1/4 in.
>> Big difference between eighth and a quarter. I said or I said what an eighth or or 28?
>> An eighth or a quarter of an eighth?
>> No. Was that an eighth or >> let me quarter of an eighth?
>> I don't know what you said. I don't pay attention half the time.
>> Wow.
>> I said one or 28 or 1/4 of an inch.
We're going to slide the sling back so when we put a little pressure on it picks up more on the back half.
Let me go grab that shaft and give it a little wiggle.
Wiggle wiggle wiggle. Do you want to do this part?
>> N you're good at it. You're better at it.
Nope.
In my mind, that worked out really well.
Otherwise, didn't really work at all.
Let's uh try something else here.
If you're do if you're doing a torque converter, if you're doing a clutch, do not draw the thing in with the freaking bolts and your ugie gun. A lot of power there.
>> So, why?
>> Huh? Because well, cuz the stuff's not lined up. Well, like on a on a you know, like on an automatic transmission, you'll you'll break the pump in the training.
You just don't want to be stupid. Now, granted, I'm sitting here telling you not to do it, and I'm I'm feeling it out, but I can also feel it. I know what she feels like.
Me and the dozer are very close because if this this cast, you know, if this cast iron, you're drawing it in, you're like, I'll just draw it in all the way. Snap. Next thing you know, you're buying a bunch of crap. Um, a lot of power in a in a thread >> screw.
>> The power of the inclined plane, the >> Mhm. Yeah. I just learned about that in physics >> in your homeschooling action.
Mhm.
>> Shop cooling we like to call it.
Okay. So, we're going to leave that there. She just about flush. Make sure the old shaft rotates. Oh, yeah. She's a good rotator.
I don't believe that turns the torque converter, though. Um, so this is where it gets tricky. I got to see about getting stuff lined up. I did leave a hole lined up down here in the starter hole. Where are you guys pointing? Yeah, it's down in the starter with the flywheel. I'm going to look in here with a flashlight. Make sure that's lined up. I'm going to leave the sling on for some safety.
See if I can spin the flex plate. Line it up. Hopefully, we don't have to take the whole stinking thing back out. We'll see. So, you can reach back. If you reach your fingers in here, you can reach back and grab that torque converter and you can you can spin it to line it up. I got one lined up. Going around to the next one here.
Seeing if they're lined up. Hopefully.
We'll check this one before we put any Loctite on it.
Okay. Felt like it is. And I didn't realize, you guys know when we took this thing apart had that one oddball bolt.
It's not even the freaking right bolt.
uh in the sense, you know, not just that it doesn't have the right, you know, head on it. It's the wrong thread pitch. It's a coarse thread. 5/16 somebody just wedged in there.
So, I just sent Mrs. O downtown to try to get us a fine thread bolt.
I don't know if the hardware store is still open.
Hopefully.
It's Saturday. I started this yesterday.
Yesterday. Yeah, I guess yesterday was Friday cuz that's how the week days of the week work.
So, I'm going to keep on keeping on here and keep spinning these around.
a little apprehensive to go and uh tighten up the bell housing till we get all this done because all you got to do is drop one of these dang bolts. Well, you know what? I guess we could still get it out the bottom. That covers that cover is open.
One of these is probably going to go a little bit hard. I think it's this one because of where they stuck that freaking wrong bolt in there. So, we're going to have to pretend we didn't see it.
Let me get a ratchet. See how this thing feels. Didn't even dawn on me when I had the thing apart to look at all those little tin nuts that go on there.
Yeah, I bet it was this one.
Is it going? I think so.
Okay.
All right. Uh, we just got to wait for her to get back. I'm going to spin around, snug up the ones I already put in before the Loctite tights, tightens, dries, seals, does whatever it does.
Did you save us?
>> Saved you.
>> Boom.
Sick.
All right, this is old goddess the new bolt. I told you I wasn't going to hook anything up till she got back. Uh, but I couldn't resist. I hooked up the pressure hose to the gauge, one of the hoses underneath. We'll get these last two bolts in and hopefully just get this thing wrapped up. Thanks, Miss though.
>> Oh, yeah.
>> We love you, too.
Everything came in.
>> Uh, yeah. Trinity just took him for a run. He's fine. She's out riding four-wheeler.
Last one, boys.
That's that. I'm going to go around, get the torque wrench, torque everything to factory specs.
Taking it easy.
All right, I went around snugged up all the bolts on the B from up here. I got to get the ones underneath.
Leave the starter out for right now.
Let's um tell you what, I'm going to finish hooking stuff up in here. Uh no real sense in showing you that. I'm going to put the fitting back in the side to hook this hose up. We'll hook the temperature probe up. I'm going to hook that other hose up. Now, the lower hose I already stuck on there. I didn't tighten it up yet. Uh just kind of get stuff uh wiped off. Got to wipe the fittings off, wipe the dirt and crap off them. Kind of get things uh put back together here. And then get the drive shaft back in it. I think I'm going to leave the tin and the hood and all that crap off until we take her for a rip there. But let this little guy down all the way.
That worked out really well. I'm glad uh it was worth the purchase, I should say.
Ah, can't do it one-handed.
Hoses are hooked up. Temperature probe is hooked up. splines are lubricated.
Guided that baby right in.
Get our U-jint line back up here.
Get everything all one handed handy here.
Come on, baby.
That feels good.
I'll get the bolts back in this and then I don't know. We're running out of parts. I think we need to put the starter back in. See if she runs.
See if she moves. That'll be even better. And the best thing will be is if it leaks oil at a slower rate than it did before.
She's in. She's tight.
Let's get the starter slid up in there.
There she is.
Stay away.
Well, let me uh let me just get this one snugged up here just to kind of hold it. Then we'll get the other ones put in place.
Make things a little bit easier.
Heat up here.
Heat. Heat.
Heat up here.
Okay, that's a plus. It starts, it moves.
Before we get too far, before we take it for a rip there, bud. We'll uh see how much fluid she has in the old transmission.
That's the full mark. Must be the old dipstick was running around in there loose one time.
But we lost maybe a half a gallon or so there with the hoses and whatnot.
Yes, sir. She down to the ad mark.
We go get some fluid. We'll top that off. She's all whipped up and ariated.
And uh we'll throw the air cleaner on it. I'm going to take it for a rip before we put all the tin work back on.
See what uh see what's up.
Okay. Well, let's see. See if we can hit the hole. Uh using OEM case TCH fluid.
It's what these machines call for.
It's what they use in the hydraulics and in the transmission.
That should be about right is we'll check and see.
Stick that over there.
Grab the stick. Give it a wipe.
She leaks out of well damn near everything.
So, look at that. Just a whisper past the full mark, but she's all fluffy. And like I say, it drips out of every valve, especially the valve body over there for the for the blade. Uh the main the main leak on the transmission is the uh for the high low shifter where the high low selector goes in the bottom of the transmission. I just don't know if the juice is worth the squeeze. Uh I think the seal can be changed externally and if I fix that, that'll be the, you know, the big majority of the leaks.
Everything else is is pretty superficial. You know, you can go, you know, days and days and days and never have to, you know, top it off. I wouldn't imagine.
um just based on the size of the leaks.
So, we we may visit that. I see on the line somebody uh on the interwebs there, somebody showed all the part numbers and everything for all the O-rings in Well, I pointed at this valve body down here for your uh uh track speeds. But the one up here in the armrest that's, you know, leaks all over, uh, guy took the time, tear it apart, do, you know, redo the whole valves, uh, you know, all new O-rings, seals, and everything. And he posted all the part numbers because, you know, a lot of, like I say, this this machine's old. A lot of stuff's discontinued. So, you know, you're just you're doing it on your own, figuring it out, cross referencing stuff, you know, doing what you got to do. We put my spillage I just hope the engine oil leak is slowed down. And while we're standing right here with our bucket, let's uh see if we Mother of Pearl, let's check the hydraulic fluid just to be sure.
Uh let the blade down.
Oh yeah, she's super she's pretty close.
I don't know if you're supposed to check it screwed in or not, but doesn't really matter. It's a pretty massive reservoir.
The one the one lift cylinder there on the front leaks.
It is down a little. We'll just uh we'll top her up. I did get I did order a seal kit for it. That showed up.
So, we're going to have to fix that, which that might not be too terrible. It looks like somebody's already had it tore apart.
I see where they heated up the cylinder.
So, I don't know.
I did put all new filters on the machine. Both fuel filters, oil filter, engine oil, of course, transmission, hydraulic, all that.
That's all new. Did uh did all new fluids, too.
Like I say, the guy I bought it from just just lying through his teeth. Now, you know, I don't know much about, you know, equipment, but now that I have it and I'm starting to go through it, the whole list of everything that he said he did before he, you know, sold it, you know, it's I don't know. I should just shut up. I'm just going to shut up. Uh, but is what it is. is I got a good enough deal on the machine that it doesn't matter. But at the end of the day, just a little discouraging.
So, uh, well, let me, uh, let's throw the air cleaner on here. Take it for a rip there, bud.
It's on patrol, guys. Always on patrol, aren't you?
That ain't going nowhere.
Like I say, we'll leave the side covers off here. You can see down inside the torque converter down in the bell housing there. And I it would fill right up. Just spill right all over.
Now, I expect to see a little bit down in there because we didn't clean off the torque converter and everything there. Um, you know, so there's going to be some residual that slings out, but I did wipe out that bottom. Yeah. I mean, it would puddle up, you know, an inch deep or more.
All right, let's go ahead and top her off a little.
It's down maybe a half a quarter or so.
Okay, let's pretend we topped it off.
For some reason, this guy has no 1540 at home.
Found some back of the truck.
Okay, move the John Deere out of the way so we can I'm going I'm going to drive it with the floor plate off for right now just so we can keep an eye on things. Make sure we don't hydraulic leaks. And then you guys I don't know if you guys will be able to see down inside the hole. It's already a tiny bit slung from starting it, but um like I said, she'd fill right up. spill right over and just be running right out the bottom, all over everything. Um, all right. Let me let her warm up a bit and we'll go for a rip there.
What do you think, bud? You want to go for a rip?
I think we're all good.
And we'll see if any we got any leaks on anything.
All right, shut my flashlight off.
Everything's good. Neutral parking brake.
Still hear the uh hear the pump whining a little bit. Still got a little bit of air in it.
See if I can do this onehanded.
Yo, I'm going to be driving up there. Okay.
Heat up here.
Heat up here.
Let's have a little air in my line. It's a little fluttery.
All right. Well, we're up to 10. Let's see if she's just kissing right off the bottom.
I didn't bring my flashlight.
Yeah. So far so good. Used to pick this thing up and it was like a little bit of a shower.
Heat up here.
Heat up here.
Heat up here.
Heat up here.
Heat up here.
I just wanted to make sure it had power.
It could spin up tracks. I mean, that's just that's just top toil. It's pretty easy to push.
All right, I'm going to head back home.
Heat up here.
Heat up here.
Sweet. Pump still sounds a little whiny.
Uh, like I say, may it may be airrated.
It's barely even warm. Takes a lot to warm up these transmissions.
Um, all right. I think we're good. Uh, I don't know if you guys can see it or not, but the, uh, looking down in the bell housing there, it's just as dry as when we left.
Oh my gosh, that's awesome. I'm so happy about that. That little bit that we just drove, uh, I don't know what, 15, 20 minutes, whatever it is, we were gone.
That bowhaz would be full and this thing would be just oil would literally be running right out the bottom.
Oh my goodness. time. I was kind of dreading that job, but I'm glad. Just making sure my fittings are all dry.
I'm getting real shaky. I need to go get something to eat. Um, and then I'll get the get the tin back on her and check the fluids and go down and pick myself up some more oil.
We're going to leave it at that, folks.
I don't think you guys need to see me put the tin stuff back on it. Put the plate back underneath it. But it appears what we came to do. We did and it worked. Wow. Don't look surprised.
I'm pretty happy with it. We learned some stuff. We learned about aviation form and place gasket stuff. That seemed to work pretty good. Going to have to keep that in my back pocket. It's not too often though in in the automotive world where I run across seals that, you know, don't fit into their housing unless something really stupid happened.
you know, the seal stuck and spun.
Housing's ruined and, you know, rest is history. I don't think any gasket schlack is going to fix that. Kind of bizarre in this case because it doesn't look like the seal spun in there. I don't know, maybe, you know, it just did a little bit over time. It still fit with a fair amount of resistance where I didn't feel too bad about, you know, about using it. Uh, it was really cool though to have a a good sealer that really seemed to, you know, lock it in place. So, I'll be curious to know if any of you old funny duddies out there have done that, use that stuff, or if you use just Indian gasket shellac or you know what the story is, but uh we got the big leak fixed. There's still lots of little leaks, but that's to be expected. It's old. It's going to happen. Uh I think the next thing we're going to tackle, we do have to get after this lift cylinder, but I'm curious though if it has quit heatering. When I first uh you know got the machine and you know was changing hoses and fixing a tremendous amount of things, I did notice that cylinder was it was pissing pretty good to the point that I bought a seal kit for it. But I'm kind of curious now if it's not. So we may visit that.
But that's kind of small potatoes in the big picture.
So that's it. We're going to keep on keeping on. So all right, we'll catch you folks on the next one. And just remember, for every mile road, there's two miles of ditch.
