How to get 300HP ! (Build Wars)Ajouté :
You've been busy already?
>> Yeah, yeah, I've been busy. Yeah, well I can't keep this going. Away from >> [laughter] >> We need to make 300 horsepower like I haven't even been here. Yesterday. Five teams, five unique builds.
We're back once again to take on Victoria's toughest terrain.
Steeper climbs, bigger rocks, rougher tracks, and a smaller budget.
And this time we crown a winner.
This is King Chrome Build Wars. Oh, this is 300 horsepower in a in a bag.
Okay. All right. So, Max tickle bag.
Yeah, max Yeah, yeah.
We got the Timmy tickle bag to happen.
To get 300 horsepower cost you $632.42 including GST.
Now we have injectors. Trampoline springs. Trampoline Yeah, some new trampoline springs. So, they're some Gub springs so that we can get say 4K Gub springs. 4,000 rpm.
>> 4,000 rpm. Oh, yeah, you'd be able to pull a lot of bins with that.
>> [laughter] >> That looks spicy.
I'm not sure to be honest. He doesn't even know. I don't know. But, speaking of not knowing, I actually have a special guest coming to help. Oh, yeah, that's just the AFC washer.
Yeah.
So, all this stuff belongs in the fuel pump. So, this is basically going to spice up the fuel pump. This a bit above your pay grade?
>> bit above my pay grade. I could YouTube it, work it out. There's plenty of stuff. But, due to the the time we have I ended up on the beers at the Four Drive Show with Mitch from Creek to Coast.
>> Gee, that's unusual. Oh, who would have thought? And uh he does all the common's installations on the Sunshine Coast for EPC. And um yeah, he was keen to to come and have a play and he's just got a dyno now, too. So, what we're going to do is >> Whack these in and tune it there.
Correct. So, we're all going to learn along the way, which is very cool. Then we're going to tune it up there. Well, we'll road tune it here and then we'll then we'll uh make sure she's good up there. Okay. There is one more spicy piece to this puzzle that I don't know if that was really in the budget. It was like $900 but uh double duty diesel stock him.
But it is a tune on the fly for mechanical pump. So you can basically It's actually really cool. So it's great for if you're overheating or something.
Correct. You're going up a big range or a hill or you're towing, you can actually dial back the fuel um so there's a boost reference to the fuel pump and you can interrupt the boost reference basically getting less or more fuel. Which is very cool. So we can go full sweaty boy or we can keep it nice and clean and keep the EGTs down. All right. So we got big eyes here from C and Land Fab which I've been calling it Land and Sea Fab.
So sorry, mate.
>> These things happen, man. It's all right.
>> [laughter] >> So we've been doing a bit of R&D on a passenger side airbox cuz you already make the driver side.
>> Yeah, we got a driver side Cummins airbox. You just remove all that stuff and it bolts straight in. Yeah. So I said I couldn't be bothered to moving the battery [music] and and all that. So created this. Fits all right. Got a little bit of a design change here. It's meant to come out there but it's fouling with the injector pump. So I'll just pop it out the back there and sneak it up and over. So you might be able to flip that around in future and come up around there but we'll just yeah. Wow, mate.
place here we can do. How convenient that he's like the dime bag alloy master [music] and just happened I just happen to have I literally actually just happen to have enough stuff to make a 4-in intake. So It won't be my neatest work but we'll make it work.
>> Yeah, we I don't have a drop saw yet. I think I need a something to invest >> so yeah. It'll It'll get us by anyways.
That's all right. I know this looks like a big giant workshop. It's still literally just my shed. So You're doing You're doing well, mate. Yeah, I like it. Cool. This is going to sort our water ingress issue cuz the old Cummins took a big drink down in Tassie and Yeah, yeah, yeah. So yeah, make it a seal up. You got a bit more capacity there so you could you know, future mods if you want to go a bit more horsepower and stuff like that. Definitely a bit of overkill, but the option's there for as much as you want really, up to probably 500, I'd say. 500 ponies and this bad boy should wheel stand.
>> Anything over that, you're probably going to want to go, like, you know, cold air intakes and stuff like that, [music] I'd suggest, but >> So, that's the same Uni pod filter. This is the GNL Yeah, Wally filter, I think it is, but with the 4-in inlet and outlet on it.
Cool. So, that's very similar to what I have on the K truck, [music] but I have a 5-in inlet.
>> 5-in outlet, yeah. Yeah. Cool. And the best part is we can hook up the the factory snorkel or, [music] you know, you can keep your snorkel on this side Yes. and not have to do yet another crossover. So, cool. Pretty pumped on that, mate. So, No, we'll just [music] get it done and then, yeah, you go have some fun and trash it. Yeah. Hey.
>> [laughter] >> We got Mitch here. This is Mitch from Creek to Coast. Now, he's the man, the myth, the legend that does all these engine Cummins conversions on the Sunny Coast. You've got your world-famous 80 series ones. Corey's here. He's got a couple of beers. Yeah.
He's ready to work on a Cummins if I've ever seen it. Have a look at his valid.
Check this out. Oh, mate. I'm going to have to get a slow mo of that later.
>> [laughter] >> Been a bit busy, mate. So, got new airbox cuz the the Cummins had a bit of a drink last trip. Yeah. Uh we've got a 4-in intake. Now, Mitch is just telling me the budget just got better cuz we're not going to need injectors. No, I don't think so. So, yours, mate What did yours make? My clutch is slipping at, dude, 315 and 1,100 and something on the on the hub Oh, not on the hubs, on the On stock injectors.
>> On stock injectors. Okay. So, 1,100 Newton meters on factory injectors. So, we don't need more than that cuz this GU gearbox has 260,000 K's on it. Uh we've also only got a 1,300 Newton meter clutch. Yeah. I reckon just AFC mods, timing, AFC live. Yep. Which is pretty cool. Very cool. Everyone will froth that.
And 300 horsepower. Boom. [laughter] Right, so that's the target at at the wheels on the rollers, too. You're a roller? On the rollers, yep. On the rollers. I'm going to get stuck into pulling this radiator out cuz I've got to replace the the fan. All right, so we need a special special tool the boys forgot. Now, what is it? It is like a special hub hub tool thingy. I forgot to bring it. Um it's like a kinked 32 mil spanner. A kinked a 32 mil?
>> in between the viscous hub and the fan and then you can just undo it. Right out. Well, there you go. So, we might have to cut cut and shut of the spa. I apologize in advance, King Chrome.
Now, that is the mechanical fuel pump and each injector line feeding each cylinder.
Yeah.
>> [laughter] >> Just don't don't don't don't don't >> fuel boost [laughter] boost boost.
And uh so, on the front here um I'm going to have to get some light on that. Okay. So, on the front here is where the pump runs on the mechanical gears, am I correct? Yep. That runs on the uh timing gear and then that's obviously timed to the crankshaft.
And that's what we're going to adjust.
Basically, when the crank is at 18° is when you want that to be lined up. Yeah, between For for a spicy boy. For a spicy boy. Between 18 to 21°, yeah. Okay.
The nut in question to change the fan after I ripped all the blades off in Tasmania is in behind there. Tricky bolt to get to that one, but we will make it happen.
Okay, so the boys are just back there getting the engine to top dead center, so turning it around until there's a That's right, there's a pin drops in, eh? It's easy to find the hole with your finger in it.
>> found it. Oh, he's got it.
While they're doing that, this is the kit from um Double Duty Diesel. They're Australian company. They import a lot of Cummins performance or diesel and Duramax performance parts. Anyway, it's 950 bucks and it's from Power Driven Diesel.
Now, these guys are from the States. I did try to buy it directly from them, but just about no one over there sends to Australia. So, that was that was really annoying. Now, this is the bad boy here. Pretty cool. It's got a little little boost gauge on there and a couple dials. So, you got your fuel and your power.
I want to figure out where to mount this bad boy. You also have to order this to your specific boost. So, I'm going to be running 30 to 35 lb of boost cuz this spring will change per per range of boost that you generally run in your truck. So, I'm trying to figure out where I should mount the uh power adjuster and I reckon we're going to go with TJ's TJ's spot and straight on the steering wheel. So, we got access at all times.
You know, miss all switch here. Just >> [snorts] [laughter] >> I think we're going to go down there.
It's pretty nice spot for it. Little boost gauge on it, too, which is cool.
I'm guessing that's something to do with the adjustment.
Everything's easy to dial in and out.
That one doesn't even move. So, not the fuel. Oh, that's air.
So, when I had copped all that water, it went through every intake, everything.
That's where your boost goes in. Oh, right. So, that's the boost compensation for the fuel. Yeah. Yeah, right.
>> like it's feeding. Yeah. Yeah.
>> That's like sideways.
Yeah, right. This is the part we're modding. Yeah. So, this is the 300 horsepower, which is a spring and two washers. Yeah.
>> [laughter] >> So, by AFC, you would say that's air fuel control? Yeah. All right. So, where the AFC air fuel control is located, you'll find it on the back of the fuel pump just here.
Well, it's not there now.
It's It's over there now with with me.
All right, mate. So, show us what is this? This is 300 horsepower. Yeah, this is 300 horsepower and a spring, a washer with an 8 mil hole.
Um just get that butter out. And that's about it. Looks like a mud guard washer.
Yeah, that's it. We just grind the foot down. We cut 3 mil off that. So, it's called the max travel kit. Yep. So, the foot moves further. The spring the biggest spring that allows uh more AFC control. So, less smoke 35 lbs of boost at full compression. Less smoke?
>> Yeah. Less smoke? So, you know it sucks at the moment, mate.
>> I mean, we can just go like that and then >> [laughter] >> we've got all the milk. What's uh what's your prediction? What's it going to go on the dyno? Oh, if we put 36 lbs of boost, I'm going to say 317 horsepower and 1,136 Newton meters. Is that what yours made?
Like to the T. Yeah, it's a pretty good guess. What's she going to do, mate?
All right.
500 horsepower.
>> [laughter] >> We sort of I sort of want to keep it around 1,000 Newton meters for you. Just to save the gearbox a bit.
>> Yeah, you want to have a good time.
It doesn't have an 80 series drive lines.
>> [laughter] >> Hey, look. I agree that Toyota is where it's at.
100%. Everyone's like, "Put a Patrol diff in." And I'm like, "You know a Toyota rear diff is actually bigger and stronger than a Patrol rear diff." Yeah, I've built way more Patrol diffs.
There you go. But, I have heard that well, it's pretty obvious the front diffs are better. Yeah. Yeah, there's no um no debating that. If you did this sort of mod to a TD42, how long would it last, mate? With a With a Nissan Patrol foot, one run.
>> [laughter] >> One run on the dyno. Careful how far you screw that bad boy in on your TD's, guys.
>> Oh, this one here. Yeah.
>> [laughter] >> Mate, uh 2 hours?
Yeah, what's the time? We at 5:44. It's now 8:46.
Yeah, but I mean Corey's been talking [ __ ] Ah, and we did stop for pizza. We ate pizza. Yep, timing's done on the pump. AFC live is complete. Sweet. AFC mods are done. And now we're changing the rev limiter to 4,000 up here. Thank god. Once it governs, it governs hard.
Like, it's so bad. And no one No one likes them governing stuff. No one likes [laughter] governing at all, I'll tell you.
Yes. Um basically a screwdriver that's cut out there. Oh, that's very technical tool. Yep. Wind it out, pull the springs out, put some new springs in, and and then we'll adjust it really finely and properly so that it idles right, revs right, uh delivers the fueling right, and then cuts the fueling off if you get a little bit trigger-happy.
Aw.
>> revving to 10K, 11K. Yeah, yeah, look, we don't want that.
>> [laughter] >> Now, if you're going to go spicier than this, obviously you've got to do ARP head studs. Yep, ARP head studs, valve springs. Valve springs to handle the more >> and RPM. Boost and RPM, yep. Uh and then your turbo will do 45 lb. Yep.
Uh but you can upgrade them, obviously.
Now, mine actually has the valve springs done already. Uh it came done, so that's we got to skip that step. Um and then injectors.
Yeah, so we're going to leave them for now and see what it does. I think so.
We'll turn her up later when I put an eight-speed behind it. Yeah.
>> [laughter] >> I I think you'll be pretty impressed on the dyno. I'm keen. I'm keen. [music] All righty.
These ones here is screw for springs. There's three in there, control the RPM. Tighter they are, the harder it revs.
This one here, however, if you want a spicy somewhat sexy idle.
Ooh, that sounds like me.
That's where you get all the whoop whoop from.
Can I just get that that hand signal again?
>> [laughter] >> But yeah, so this adjust your idle. Uh it governs your idle, but you set them up, you know, looser, tighter. You get it right, and then you play with your idle, and then you get the So, what you saying is it's going to sound like it's got a big cam.
>> Yeah, we can do that for you. That's exciting.
>> [laughter] >> Cuz yours had that, and you you you changed it, didn't you? Yeah, I changed it cuz I got over it, but Ah.
>> It's all fun and games. I can put it back there if you want. Nah, nah, nah, nah. We're going for the big cam.
>> [laughter] >> Woohoo!
Sounds good.
WOOHOO!
WOOHOO!
PLAY WITH PATROL DRIVERS, HEY? YEAH, big patrol guy.
Shh, get him [snorts] back.
>> Shh.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] >> All righty, let's get this thing on the rollers and see what it can do.
How exciting.
>> [music] >> I felt it about the girls. I I'm jumping on the brake.
>> [music] >> What's the plan, Mr. Mac? Oh, I don't know. Mitch is under here doing some sketchy [ __ ] What's going on down here, mate? Well, the patrol owner of the exhaust day. Look at this thing over here.
Get the camera in here, TJ.
>> [ __ ] Oh, that. Oh, there's a bit on.
There's a bit going on here. This is extreme all-wheel drive. All-wheel drive, don't know if it is.
Fresh. This thing is brand new.
>> He just let me know he can do 1,200 horsepower on either one.
Oh my A total of a 2,400 horsepower.
Well, luckily, cuz this thing makes about 2,300 horsepower, so >> [laughter] >> Mitch is in the middle. He's going to do a bit of renovations, build a bit of a booth around here, get some cool lighting going, and I think Kai's going to come in and do a mural. So, what's the plan today? Right now, I mean.
Today, we're going to play with some fuel screws. So, Having a Mac tickle. Uh no, this is a Mitch tickle, this one.
>> [laughter] >> And uh so, as you guys have seen it back in my shed when Mitch came down, we've done the governor springs, the AFC washers, and the AFC spring. The whoop whoop spring.
>> The whoop whoop spring.
And See, I'm learning stuff.
>> TJ's been editing already. And we've also got the uh AFC live, which which is pretty cool. I'm keen to see see that bad boy work, so >> This is being tuned on the rollers, on the tire, on a 37. If it was on a 33, far different result.
>> In saying that, I I still have faith it's going to make good numbers.
Um but we don't want to go too wild, because this does have a ZD30 uh >> gearbox. Um That poor thing. So, yeah, we we want it to last the trip, so I think we're aiming for 300 at the treads, Mitch? He's pretty confident.
He's like, that's the easy part.
>> [laughter] >> The hard part's going to be turning it back down a little bit cuz uh uh yeah, this this setup should be able to go virtually 4-500 horsepower if you wanted it. Which will break this gearbox. It needs the bloody eight-speed in it.
>> Yeah. Because even even 300 horsepower in these Cummins makes over 1,000 newton meters, so it's the torque of the Cummins that is just [music] out of this world. Torque's torque.
Torque's the torque. [music] Ah, it's all good, mate.
>> [music] >> All right, so we've done our first pre-run, mate. What [clears throat] do we got? 400 newton meters, 175 horsepower. And an AFR of 138.
>> 138 to one, so there's there's no fuel going in at the moment. No fuel, but she's still pulling good numbers though for 37. Yeah, actually, yeah, it's on the rollers on 37s, it's still pretty good, so changing a spring over. Yeah, so we ran the American AC live spring.
Um I wasn't sure if it was going to work with the wastegate.
Yeah. Yeah. It's not working. It's coming on way too late.
Uh we're making all our power at 3,000.
We should be making it at 1,900.
>> [laughter] >> So, we'll uh we'll swap this spring out and then we'll get some uh Mitch tickling going on. Are you saying there's a uh there's a Toyota piston and rod out the back?
Yeah, come out come out.
>> Next to a Cummins one.
Oh, Max. Oh, no.
Let me let me have a look. Let me take you for a walk.
>> [laughter] >> All right, so that's that's you.
That's a happy face.
>> is the guy she tells you not to worry about.
>> [laughter] >> You got to check the pistons. Granted, this is a this is not an FD piston, so But pretty similar, though. It's similar.
>> [laughter] >> That's what a real piston feels like, mate. This looks like it's been over-engineered cuz they didn't know how to build it properly, so >> [laughter] >> Chinese carbon's turbo on.
Turbo on.
Turbo on. Turbo Turbo on.
What was the racing comment, mate? Which one?
I [laughter] just said Wait, what did I say? Lot of Lot of Yeah, lot of smoke and noise but not much power.
>> Yeah, this guy >> getting there. Yeah, this guy and his buddy tied it. Let's Is it here to bring in and prove?
>> No, it's not. Aw.
>> It would It would be good. I can bring it.
>> Aw, it's not here. What a shame. Yeah.
It's probably got a window in the side of the block. It's parked [laughter] off cuz it blew up.
Boring.
>> the head.
>> This guy had a Did Oh, it did lift the head?
>> the head and then I decided it wasn't the right thing to do.
>> [laughter] >> So, if you guys haven't seen Max's 105 series, I think it's cool as Maximum Hyper Fab and had compound turbos on it.
The thing It still screams like a jet engine. It is cool. But it ain't >> Not Not quite as cool, but Yeah, cuz it's not coming.
>> Yeah, it's not coming.
Well, it's safe to say that uh that little tickle had fuel in it.
>> [laughter] >> Maybe we leave it there, mate.
Can I please use this one more time? Uh one more, dude, if you really want it.
Yeah, I want it.
Oh man, so this thing should be a bit more spicy now. 271 horsepower, 1,000 and just under 50 Newton meters, which is not great for the gearbox. Definitely not great for the gearbox.
>> [laughter] >> But uh that's on 37s now. We're actually running out of fuel late. Uh as you were saying, the torque drops off Yep.
because I You guys may remember from the first Build Wars episode, I'm only running a Race Works black lift pump. Yep. And the lift pump gets the fuel from the tank to the P pump.
>> pump, yep. And then the P pump pushes that into the motor. Yep. And basically it's not holding enough pressure later in the RPMs, so No. Um something we'll upgrade later. What would you put on? So when you come back, we'll do like a fast system or a AirDog 2. Yeah. And >> What's like what? I got a fast on my K truck. Yeah, so a fast system or AirDog 2 and you'll do 100 horsepower gain straight away if you hold 45 lb at pump.
Wow. Yeah. There you go. And what uh on stock injectors, what would we go?
Um Pretty well around that 300?
>> I reckon it might touch 300 and then we might need to touch injectors and then we'll do a solid 400. All right, so Yeah. injectors and a fast pump. Build Wars 3, let's go.
And maybe a gearbox that'll Maybe a gearbox. Always down to the wire on the Big always down to the wire. She's on the truck tomorrow morning, man. Oh yeah. All right, so we've got the tune done. All the engine mods done.
>> She is spicy, ready to tackle the Vic High Country. This part of the video, everyone wants to know the budget.
Budget. So we went a little bit over, Cletus. Oh, I'm shocked. So shocked.
About 5,500 bucks on this one. All right, well I've got the exact number, $5,477.
Yeah. We're a bit over. Bit over. We might cop a little penalty for that one.
I think that's actually pretty good considering the powder coating we included.
>> We included the powder coating. The airbox was a necessity because we do not want to run this car on water again.
>> And it's very It's a very spicy airbox, so. It is a spicy airbox. It's going to It's going to allow for a lot more airflow. The factory snorkel does not allow for. So, tune in to tomorrow night's episode and see what And uh then get ready for the trip ups, guys. We've got all five teams battling it out once again. This time in Victorian high country. Got to say it's a big thanks to to Mitch and the team here, all the boys, Corey and his absolutely stunning Scarlet.
>> [laughter] >> Couldn't have done it without it.
So, are you happy with the results, mate? Yeah, we're stoked with it, mate.
>> Yeah. Can't wait to see it on the tracks. And uh what do you reckon we turn her up a bit more later or Oh, we're always going to turn her up. Rest of your life, rest of the time you own this [laughter] truck, she's going up and up and up. What's your predictions for how long the gearbox is going to last? Um I reckon we'll be doing it before the next trip, mate.
>> [laughter] >> Oh, god. Might be time for an order.
Depends who drives, I guess. I'm probably not the best person to >> [laughter] >> No.
All right. Well, don't forget tomorrow night, guys. King Chrome's Prado build is continuing on and I'll tell you what, they had a lot more work than we had to do. Yeah.
Almost.
They have to do a full engine swap.
>> [music] [music] >> I'll cook this thing before I use that.
Aussie boys are up the back garden. I'll give you a fuse for 100 points.
>> [laughter] [music] >> I don't want to see you around.
