Young man from India killed in rare fatal bear attack in northern Sask.

[00:00:00]A deadly attack. A 27-year-old man from India killed by a bear. His brother says he came to Canada 3 years ago and was mauled by a bear on Friday while working in northern Saskatchewan. It happened at the uranium exploration site called Zoo Bay, about 700 km northeast of Saskatoon. The company Uranium X Discovery says it's deeply saddened by the incident and has halted work at the facility.

The last one was 6 years ago and you have to go quite a few years earlier before you know to to to find the next ones in the record. The last incident in 2020 happened near a woman's family cabin north of Buffalo Narrows. The only other bear-related deaths happened in 1983 when two men were killed in separate attacks near Nipawin. But Clark says there could be more such incidents. It's a very late spring. Looking at weather cams and and satellite images, there's still a lot of snow on the ground up there. That means that any bears coming out of their dens are going to have slimmer pickings than usual in the spring. The bear involved in this latest attack is here now at Saskatoon's Western College of Veterinary Medicine.

[00:01:26]The man's name hasn't been released. His brother says the rest of the family is still finding out about his death.
