YouTube allows content creators to post three different thumbnails for each video, enabling A/B testing where different images and titles are shown to different viewer groups to determine which combination generates the most clicks. This optimization strategy helps maximize video views by identifying the most effective visual and textual elements that attract viewer attention, as different audiences respond differently to various thumbnail designs and headlines.

Are these REALLY MILLION-DOLLAR homes? Spotted while walking in Palm Springs!Added:
Good morning everybody. Steve here in Palm Springs. I'm in the movie Colony Mo movie calling [laughter] movie Movie Colony neighborhood uh near downtown Palm Springs. Quite a few of you have asked me to take my walk in the movie colony. I don't know why I can't say colony this morning. I just woke up a little while ago. It's uh 5:45.
The sun is supposed to be up by now.
It's uh well sunrise is 5:45 and so I've been getting up this week at 5:00 every day going out and working in the backyard. I usually get out to the backyard by 5:30 and it's pretty nice. I mean it's uh pretty light out but I wasn't expecting so that was for the the past week. I mean it's been really nice.
But this morning I decided to finally take a walk. I haven't taken a walk in a week. I mean, this is the first time, I think, maybe ever, where I haven't walked in an entire week. And so, I thought I have to go walk today. And I want to take a really long walk. So, this will probably be like an hour long video. And since I have been so used to getting up so early this week, I just thought I would go ahead and walk at sunrise, not realizing that it was going to be cloudy out. And so, the sun isn't even showing through the clouds.
>> [snorts] >> So, it still is pretty dark. Everyone still has their lights on. But a number of you have asked me to come over and or you've asked me if I've ever toured the Robo Lights house and that's where I am right now. You can see these robots here in this yard. This is at the corner of Grand Via Valante and Archa Road or Aquila Road. [laughter] I'm not doing so well this morning. uh speaking and you can see it's this is movie colony east and this is the first time I'm seeing these robots across the street. I think the guy's name is Kenny who lives here. Kenny Irwin I think is the artist who's created all of these robots and maybe he ran out of room or maybe he sold them to the person across the street. I'll walk over there in a second but first let me show you this house from the outside.
You can see there's just robots everywhere and all kinds of other things. And these are all just made from found objects. You can see tires, car tires, and plywood and all kinds of industrial materials. Also, all the lights here, Christmas lights. So, this is very popular or has been very popular for the last, I don't know, 20 years or so. Ever since we've lived here, this has been here. And I think it was here probably long before we moved down here. And unfortunately, I think it's been closed down as a a tourist attraction at Christmas this past year. I finally I've never been here for the Robo Lights. It's It's named after, I guess, the robots and then all the Christmas lights at Christmas. And they would always open this up for tours. Let's just go and see what we can see here. And I'll tell you more in a minute. You can see the little Santa Claus up there and this trailer here. This looks like I guess he transports these around different places. You know, he's got all the like icicles here for Christmas.
Let's go up to the end of the house here. So, I'll show you where it starts and we'll just walk around the perimeter. I was hoping that there would be a sign out front. In the past when I've come by there usually I think I have seen a sign that would give the hours for tours and things. But so this Christmas, this past Christmas, I went online to see if they were still doing this and if so what the hours were. And look at this. Isn't this cute?
He has built all of these these sets here and all of these all of this artwork and but I can't quite figure out if it's still open if he still gives tours. I don't think they do at night anymore, but maybe during the day. I don't know. Is this like a Oh, yeah.
This looks like a spider made of Christmas lights.
Good morning.
>> Do [snorts] you know if this is still open? Do they still do tours and things?
>> Uh, privately.
>> Private. You have to request it directly with the guy. Okay.
>> I'm up on Facebook.
>> Facebook. Oh, okay. Thanks. Yeah, I don't do uh Facebook and I guess I'll have to. I just went online at Christmas. I couldn't find any information about it and I guess it's because it's on Facebook. So, I'll have to check that out. So those were some neighbors I guess and they said that it's just private now. So I guess you have to make the arrangements. I don't know if you could hear in the camera in the microphone. You have to make arrangements directly and then maybe you can get private tours. I think you know this is uh like Beverly Hills. This neighborhood is these are all multi multi-million dollar homes and there's no HOA so you can I guess kind of do what you want. But I think the neighbors finally got uh tired of all the crowds, all the tourists, especially at Christmas, just taking up all the parking spaces and making lots of noise. And so I guess they finally shut him down. I know they were he was fighting it for years.
And you know, the neighbors were trying to to stop him from giving tours here.
This is pretty.
Let me get a thumbnail here.
Yeah, if I remember, somebody left a comment a while back. I didn't write it down for this morning. I'm going to ask answer some questions this morning, but someone asked why do I do so many thumbnails when I'm on my walk, and I'll answer that in a second. This is also going to be a test of my the low light, the ability of this camera to film in low light. And I am really slow this morning. Slower than usual. I'm always slow, but this morning I cannot get a a word out or a thought out. Look at that shark there. So, I guess it's just nice that the city has allowed him to keep his artwork here in the yard because even though there's no HOA, cities do, you know, usually have regulations about what you can have in your yard and and especially in a neighborhood like this where these are all multi multi-million dollar homes.
Isn't this fun?
[snorts] Yeah. So, I actually I brought the the names. I wanted to thank those of you who mentioned this or asked me if I had been here. So, Willie F, Tanya Sers, EBZ, and Paul Minnelli.
I hope I didn't miss any of you, but you all asked over the last, you know, month or two if I had ever come over and filmed the robo lights.
You can see it just winds all around.
And I I wonder if they he Well, he must still have lights. So maybe he could still do it at night. So maybe I'll see if I can contact him and [snorts] get a private tour now that I know that it's uh by appointment only.
All right. So, so far I'm not getting much of a walk. I'm just strolling. I've only made it a block, but so I do want to walk and get my steps in. Since I haven't walked in a week, I have been in the backyard of our house working on the yard repotting, replanting, moving everything around the yard.
And so I definitely need to to get a nice long walk in. I have walked by this house before in the past. I think I probably filmed it on this channel, but it's been a while. And I know a lot of people are new new to the channel and a lot of people don't go back and watch older videos, but I've never been inside. You can see it's pretty cloudy out, but it looks like the sun may poke its head out eventually.
Have any of you been here? Look at the little dogs in the cage. This guy definitely has an imagination, doesn't he? I mean, there's so much going on back there. It's [snorts] amazing.
Look at all the different items that he's used to create this uh this robot.
It's a a horse skeleton.
Lots of fun stuff going on over there.
So, the rest of the yard, I guess the house must be back here cuz you can't even see the house. [laughter and gasps] So, maybe he wants privacy where he actually lives. I mean, I can kind of see a little bit through the the hedge there. It's still I mean, you could see all kinds of things.
still going on even back there. All right. So, you know, it's a pretty large lot as you can see.
But what I'm going to do today, let's see. I think I'm going to This is a very large neighborhood. I'm not going to be able to walk through the entire neighborhood, but I'm going to walk from Argua. I don't know how to pronounce that. Aru.
I'm just going to say Arguila. I know however I pronounce it, a lot of you are going to say I pronounced it wrong cuz I always do pronounce everything wrong, but I'm going to go with I'm going to go with Arguila and Koosa.
And I'm going to walk up and down all the streets on that side side of Arguila.
And I think what I'm going to do is I'm going to come over here and start at Allejo Road. There's another view from across the street.
Wait, sure. It's quiet out this morning.
Well, it is still early. It's a Monday morning. It's the first week in May, I think. Is it the second? Yeah, I think it's the first week in May. And I would have thought there'd be a lot more people on the road going to work, but I guess it's still a little early if it's only Well, it's probably 6:00 by now. [snorts] Most people don't go to work till 8 or 9, so it's still early, but Allejo is a very, very busy street usually, so I guess it's good that I'm here this early, so it's not so noisy.
And the sun is starting to come out a little bit, which is nice. [snorts] So, Allejo Road, some of you will recognize that as the home where Frank Sinatra used to live.
His very famous Twin Palms home is right up here to the left. And this is downtown right there.
So, I'm going to walk over here and show you the front of his house, Frank Sagra's former home. And then we'll walk around the back on the next street over which was was that Kousa? And we'll see the back of the house. And both sides have a historic plaque indicating that it's Frank Sinatra's home. [snorts] And someone, let me get out my notes here, left a comment about actually I think it was an was it Andrew? He left a question. sent me a a comment about well I guess it was a question about Frank Sinatra's house. So I thought let me go ahead and answer his question while I'm here. Let me just find it. I've got a bunch of bunch of questions that I brought with me today.
He goes by Ultra Gator Man and he says, "You mentioned that your grandparents owned Frank Sinatra's Palm Springs home for a while. Could you share when and how much they paid? Also, do you have any memories from visiting there? Okay, so here's Frank Soninatra's former home and [snorts] it's owned by I don't know if it's just an individual or a corporation now, but it's used as a vacation rental and it's um you know, parties are held here. You can rent it out and stay here in groups or individually. It's there used to be a tree right there in that circle. I think it was a grapefruit tree. Grapefruit trees were very uh very popular back in the day. And so yeah, this uh home now is used for a lot of events.
And here's the plaque. You can pause the video if you want to to read this. This is a National Register of Historic Places property.
Yeah, I have uh pictures of my mom and my grandparents in the house at the house here in the driveway and or I did. I don't know what happened out of those pictures unfortunately over the years. just I wish people had taken more pictures and taken better care of the pictures. And so to answer your question, I talked about I mean I've talked about it many times because like I say a lot of people are new to the channel and don't go back and watch older videos.
So, I do repeat myself a lot when it comes to certain stories because I know a lot of people this interesting that this house is right next door to Frank Sinatra's very historic, very famous home, multi multi-million dollar home.
And so, I mentioned it. I was talking about it when I was at the end of the street here. So, if you go all the way to the very end of the street where I mean it really just stops. It dead ends right at the end of the street. Well, there's a cemetery right there. So, past those two lights, it's not even I don't even think it's a mile. And at the cemetery, I visited the grave sites of Hugh and Morin Young.
I'll wait till this truck goes by.
So, I was visiting Hugh and Moren Young, their grave sites, and I mentioned that they owned they bought Frank Sinatra's former Palm Springs home back in I believe it was 1955 or 57 when he sold it and moved to the Country Club down in Rancher Mirage.
So, this was back in the mid50s. MA owned it until they died in the I think it was 1990s.
Now, I can't remember. Was it 1980s or 1990s? So, they lived there longer than he ever lived there. I think he maybe only lived there around 10 years.
[snorts] And they were Hugh and Morin Young were best friends with my grandparents. So, Andrew, when you were listening to it, I guess maybe I wasn't very clear and you know, you know, I talk fast. I talk about a lot of different things. And so, I guess you misunderstood and thought I said my grandparents owned the home. They're [snorts] best friends.
And that's how we all ended up down here in Palm Springs because after the Youngs bought the home, you know, they invited, of course, my grandparents down to visit a lot. And my grandparents also fell in love with Palm Springs and they decided to buy a home down here, but not Frank Sinatra's home. We did go to Frank Sinatra's former home all the time to visit the Youngs. And yeah, I do have lots of very good memories. And it was just a beautiful home. And [snorts] we lost touch with after my grandparents died, we lost touch with the the youngs. This was either the late ' 80s or '9s, you know, when they died. And it's sad. I think a couple of my brothers did go to visit Hugh.
I think Morin had already died. and they went to visit Hugh. But at that point, I don't know if he had dementia or if he had just, you know, I think he was probably living alone and he barely remembered them and, you know, was very, I don't know, he just wasn't himself and really barely even remembered them. I don't even know if he did remember them.
And all right, so this is the back of the home, the Frank Sinatra Twin Palms home. And I'll go up and walk and show you the plaque. But I also just wanted to show you right there at the end of the street. You can see the let me zoom in the robo robo lights house. You could see the robots in the yard.
Now it's funny when they lived here. I don't remember ever coming in through the back way. So I don't know if this was always here. I mean it looks like it probably was. We always came through the front, you know, where the uh the driveway was. And so I never even knew there was a back Well, I knew there was a gate here, but I didn't know there was like a back uh yard like this.
And I'm not going to poke my camera over the [gasps] the fence, but you can go online and just Google Frank Sinatra's Palm Springs Twin Palms home and see pictures and all kinds of information. And you can even stay there if you want. It's weird to think. I wonder what the the Youngs would have thought knowing that, you know, when they died, it was purchased by someone who turned it into a celebrity vacation rental home. And it's been that way ever since they they purchased it. And you can see a little bit more of the house. It's very very beautiful home. Very beautiful lot. So incredible that they were able to buy his home and live there all those years.
Now this is a very pretty home next door, newer home. So a lot of these lots back here were just empty lots when they lived here. God, look at that beautiful red door.
That is a really nice home. Got a real mix of the old Spanish style. Although that looks like a newer home, unless it's just an old Spanish style home that was remodeled. So anyway, sorry that I was not [snorts] clear about that when I visited the cemetery and talked about the Youngs and my grandparents, but no, they didn't own the house. And as far as what they paid for it, gosh, back in the 1950s, they probably bought it for around, you know, 40 $50,000, which at the time, I mean, that would have been a lot of money. And, you know, partially because it was a celebrity home, a former celebrity home, but also because just a very beautiful home in a great location just a couple blocks from downtown Palm Springs.
That would be interesting if anyone is able to find exactly what the home sold for to the Youngs back in the in the mid 1950s.
That would really be fun to know, but I yeah, I don't know what they paid for it. [snorts] But I think that answers the question about when when it was purchased and why. And hopefully that clear clears up the the uh miscommunication about who actually owned the home.
Okay, so that reminds me. So the other question that I didn't bring with me about why do I take so many selfies or thumbnails, possible thumbnails on my walk? Well, the reason is that when I'm walking and filming, especially if it's really bright out, I can't really see myself in the screen here or I can't really see exactly what's being captured. And so, I take lots of selfies and possible thumbnails because I never know what I'm going to use. And I mean that's the other that's probably the main reason is that I never when I start walking I don't really know what the video is going to be about. Isn't that interesting? Other than just, you know, obviously a walk, but sometimes something will happen along the way or I'll see something and then I can title the home. I entitled the video so that it's indicates what the most interesting thing about the walk is. [snorts] But I don't usually know that and well I yeah I never know that until I've finished with my walk. And so I just take lots of different selfies and possible thumbnails just because you never know what's going to come out, what's going to look good, if I'm even going to be in the frame since I can't really see. And then also YouTube started about a year ago, they started allowing YouTubers to to make three thumbnails. So instead of just one thumbnail, like if you go to wherever you watch YouTube and you see one of my videos, you see that I have a new video, but you don't watch it right then and then you come back maybe a couple hours later or the next day and you search for my video. Yeah. See, I think this one didn't [snorts] go all the way down. Whatever the kooa stopped right there and but this one goes all the way down. So, I'm going to keep walking all the way down here to Sunrise Way.
Not sure how far I will get on this video as far as this neighborhood. I may have to come back and do another walk or two. Like I say, I I don't plan these videos and other than just knowing, you know, approximately where I want to go walk, but I just kind of go wherever the the mood strikes me and whatever happen to see along the way. But anyway, so getting back to the three thumbnails. So YouTube now allows you when you post a video to you it allows you to post three different completely different thumbnails.
So if you come back to one of my videos the day after or anytime you come back, you might see a completely different thumbnail and you might see three different versions of the thumbnail. Okay, let's go down this street. Right. So here these go this way which is north and south and these some of these go east and west. So this is amigo plaza amigo.
So when I the reason one of the reasons I do so many thumbnails on my walk is because I almost always post three different thumbnails. And the reason they do that it's called AB testing and everyone responds differently to different images and different titles. So you can also have three different titles. So, you may notice that sometimes the title might be different. Sometimes the sometimes you keep the title the same and you have three different images or sometimes you might have one image that you use three different times with different titles or sometimes you mix and match. I don't know if that makes any sense. If you're not a YouTuber, it may not. But what it does is creates three completely different This is cute. This is a really older Kasa Devidito.
That's an interesting mailbox.
All right. So, this one over here is being redone, remodeled.
I like this brick wall. Look at that. Or not brick, but um uh stone wall.
Now, that home looks like it was built back in the 50s or 60s, but the stone wall is very Spanish [snorts] from like the 20s or 30s. This is a cute little little neighborhood here.
Very eclectic. Yeah, a lot of these homes were just built way back in the day. That one looks like it was built back in the 20s or 30s. Yeah. Some of these are like little bungalows.
Some of these homes you would not expect to be multi-million dollar homes, but they are just because of the location.
You know, the home might not be worth much, but the uh the land sure is. And those are some condos across the street.
Probably when the youngs lived here, this is probably these were all just empty lots. I don't remember. I was a kid. I don't remember, you know, a lot of details like this, but obviously these were these were built probably in the '7s, maybe 1980s.
I do remember when I was a kid, most of the lots in Palm Springs were empty lots. I mean, this was a very, very tiny little desert town. Just a little weekend getaway for most people. What does this say? The aluminum house.
Established 1953. Wow. So an historic I've never seen this before. I'm glad I walk down this busier street. I usually walk just back on the other.
So because this is a historic home. I don't think they would mind if I get a little bit closer. So this was apparently made from aluminum.
Yeah. Looks looks 1950s.
How cool.
I've never knew this was here. I wonder if they ever give tours for modernism week or anything.
If any of you know, share. A lot of you know more about Palm Springs than I do.
And a lot of you actually live here and you have history here in Palm Springs like I do.
I'm not going to look over the fence, but I do. I'm sure there's a pool right there in the front. I mean, it looks like there's probably a pool. I should say I can't say for sure but seems very likely most of the homes here have pools and having pools in the front yard is very common here but interesting homes.
So you can see the airplane taking off there in the distance. It's about 5 milesi the airport is about 5 milesi away. I think a lot of these homes were not they weren't tracked homes. This neighborhood was just empty lots where people built their own homes like Finatra that his home was just he hired an architect, he bought the land and or maybe the architect bought the land for him and he had his own house designed and built there. And that's what most of these people did back in the day in this neighborhood. And this one says, "Welcome to PO Palms." That's cute.
Look at the hummingbird right here. Just uh I don't know. I hope I got that in the camera. He was just like hovering right here next to me, right in front of the uh the lens.
See, not everybody is camera shy.
I'm not sure I'm even going to need my my sweatshirt for much longer. I mean, I don't even really probably need it right now. So, where was I? What was I talking about? Another hedge home here and one across the street, too. So, this is Po Deansza.
Let's go down this way. Grand via Velmont. That's where I started. Yeah, I have a feeling this neighborhood was mostly, you know, built. Most of these homes were built back in the 50s and 60s. Well, like Frank Sinatra's home, but most of them were not as nice as Frank Sinatra's home. This looks like 1960s.
Very mid-century modern. Cayleey Ralph or Rolf.
Yeah. Sun's starting to come up a little bit. Look in the distance though. You can see the clouds. Dark clouds, like rain clouds coming up from over the the hills there.
Gosh, I'm It seems like I was in the middle of a thought.
And it's driving me crazy now that I can't remember what uh [laughter] what I was talking about. I guess I maybe I was just talking about thumbnails. Yeah. So, I don't know if you guys have noticed that the different headlines, different thumbnails, different images, but that's why. That's kind of cute. I don't know what that is. Just a little artwork.
Yeah, I guess that was it. I guess I was just talking about That's really cute.
So many cute little houses here. That's a cute little Spanish bungalow it looks like. [snorts] Oh, I I think what I was going to I was going to explain why YouTube does that. So, the reason they create these AB this AB testing is because everyone responds differently to different images and different headlines. And so, they test them. And so, for a couple of weeks, they'll alternately show like one thumbnail to this group of people. And well, all three they'll show to different groups of people and they'll they'll they can calculate and instantly they can see who's clicking on which thumbnail or headline or both the most because they want to make sure that the most people watch any video that gets posted. And so they do everything they possibly can to get you to click on the videos. And so by having three different images and three different headlines, there's more of a likelihood that you might click on one than if you just had one thumbnail.
So let's say like in the old days, you would have one thumbnail and one headline. And if it if you saw it and it didn't appeal to you, you would just scroll on to the next video. Well, this way they can test it and they can see which image and which headline gets the most clicks. So sometimes it's really obvious, like within a few hours or within a day or so, you'll have one thumbnail that's just a clear winner. I mean, everybody clicks on it. It gets like 75% of the clicks. That's pretty cool, isn't it? That uh sort of is that like a Navajo what's called Haha.
[laughter] That is so cute. I love all the names of these homes here. Aren't they cool?
Haha.
very creative.
Yeah. So, sometimes there's like an obvious winner and then YouTube like right away will say, "Okay, this one won. This is the one."
And that's the one, the only one they start showing after that. And that could happen like really fast within a day.
But most of the time, at least with my thumbnails, they usually get, you know, 30% 33% each, you know, or one gets 35%, one gets 29%. So there's only a little bit of cuz they show you you can look you know after about a half a day to a day they've calculated enough information that on the back end and I can see and all YouTubers can see that you know what how well the thumbnails are doing. So, I mean, it's it's kind of neat because I do remember, you know, back when I was first starting YouTube and, you know, I do a thumbnail and I think, gosh, I wonder will people be more interested in this image? So, this is Cayey Marcus and there's a bird up there with a little something in its mouth. Breakfast, I guess. Some flamingos over here.
Yeah. Sorry if I'm going back and forth too much, but I'm just It's like visual overload.
Yeah. So, back before they allowed the AB testing, you know, I would always wonder, I would think, you know, will viewers respond more to this kind of a headline or that kind of a headline or, you know, what image would, you know, people be more interested? Would, you know, make people click more? And that's one of the things you have to think about when you post a video. I mean, where I guess most YouTubers think about. Now, I guess some people don't care. Some YouTubers don't care and they figure, you know, people click, they click, if they don't, they don't. So, but if you care, you know, you create a uh what's this called? Kasa Anakut established 2021.
Huh, that's cute. The most important thing is getting someone to click on your video. Doesn't matter what a great how great your video is. If nobody watches it, then especially if nobody watches it just because you have such a bad thumbnail or a bad title. So this way it gives you more of an opportunity to get people to click and watch your video. And as a viewer, you may not realize, you know, if you're not a YouTuber, you just may not realize just how important it is the the image.
Images and headlines can make such a huge huge difference on whether you will click on a video or not. And you may not even realize it. And we all make decisions about what we're going to click on within I think they say it's like 3 seconds. 3 to 5 seconds is all you get to convince somebody to click on your video and you usually do that by the headline and the uh the thumbnail.
Now my experience is I unfortunately I've discovered and I think probably most YouTubers have discovered that most people click on negative. So if you have a negative headline and a negative image, people are much much much more likely to click on it. So if you like if I post a video that has a real positive upbeat image and title next to one that has a really negative and downbeat and uh headline and title, the negative one almost, you know, all the time is going to get all [laughter] the views. We're just hardwired as people to prefer negative over positive. And that's a whole topic to itself. And I don't know if you guys are aware of that or not. If you've noticed that, but if you're a YouTuber, yeah, you definitely noticed that. The thing is though, with most of my walks, they're not negative, you know? They're just nice walks. They're kind of neutral. And people don't really like neutral very much, and they don't like positive very much. Unless it's every now and then if you have like a super super positive story. I mean something like really extreme. I mean we all really like extremes. So if you have anything with extremes, even if it's positive, it might do well. All right.
So this is Sunrise Way. Again, a very very busy street. One of the busiest streets here in the desert. But right now it's still early, so not much going on, which is good. But there's a a gardener over there with some kind of a weed whacker or a tree trimmer.
So if you have a a story like channels that you know focus on negative stories, you know, death and mayhem and, [snorts] you know, just awful horrible things happening to people or just, you know, just negative things. Channels like that almost always do much much much much better than just channels like mine where I'm just a walking video.
[laughter] Not a lot of fortunately not a not a lot of negative stuff happens. And hopefully we'll keep it that way. All right. So, I guess I'll go back up this way or should I go down here and then zigzag back up that way? Maybe I will do that.
Yeah, I'm kind of all over the place here, but eventually I'll get to all the streets. Maybe not in this video, but maybe in the next video. I haven't walked uh down some of these streets close to sunrise. I don't know if I've ever walked down here. I've walked down in this neighborhood because a lot of celebrities used to live here. I' I've shown you Bob Hope's house, former one of his two of his former homes were here in this neighborhood and Bing Crosby's home. It's cute little mailbox. Have you noticed that that you almost always click on like a negative headline or negative uh title and image over something positive? You probably haven't noticed that. I don't think most people realize that that's what we do. All of us as humans, we are just more attracted to we want to know if you know something horrible has happened to somebody. We want to know what it is. We're curious.
It's like, oh my god, what happened? And so that's going to make you want to click much more than, you know, something that really sweet or nice happened to somebody. You know, we don't really care about that that much unless it's really really emotional and really sweet. So emotion is always going to get more clicks than non-emotion. And so if you're just taking a walk somewhere, it's not that emotional.
And if you're just sharing a channel about your life, a vlog about the things you do, it's not usually that emotional, at least, you know, on a daily basis. I mean, certain things might happen once in a while, but for the most part, it's just your daily life walking around.
That's why vlogs like this usually aren't that popular cuz they're just not that extreme and not that negative and not that shocking. And you know that old saying like in the news business, if it bleeds, it leads. Well, that's a real thing. And the reason is because they learned in the news business, that's why you only hear negative news in on TV or [snorts] in the newspaper or whatever.
is because they learned long ago that if they wanted people to buy their newspapers or to watch their magazines or to watch their their TV shows, the news, it had to be negative or people wouldn't watch. And so, well, let's see.
So, I walked down. I already saw this.
Let me walk up here and I'll walk back down the other way.
That's kind of interesting there.
Yeah. And so anyway, that's another long- winded answer to a question. I don't even remember who asked the [laughter] question.
Robbie Bowen 3156 says, "It seems like Palm Springs is pretty pedestrian friendly except for the brutal heat." I guess that's not really a question, is it? Or maybe there was a question in there somewhere. But um well, to be honest, actually, it's not really pedestrian friendly. I mean, there are no sidewalks in most of the old neighborhoods like this. And so, yeah, I would say it's not very pedestrian friendly, but they are trying. [snorts] They are trying to add sidewalks. They're trying to make bicycle lanes, you know, for bicycle riders. And but, you know, just and I've talked about this many, many times in past videos, so I won't go into depth.
If you haven't already seen those videos, just watch some of my older videos and my older walking videos. And I do talk about it a lot. So this is Tamaris Road. And so I'm back on Caya Roof, but not the section that we already walked on. This is like a new section. Oh, Danette Bell 5530 asks, "Do you think they will renovate the racket club?"
Yeah, the racket club. I have walked by and shown you the old historic raet club that really helped put Palm Springs on the map and Marilyn Monroe on the map.
That's where she allegedly was discovered and all the famous celebrities all hung out there back in the, you know, 50s and 60s and well, I think even before, like I can't remember now if it opened in the 30s or 40s, but yeah, it uh is an historic landmark and it's just sitting there. Most of it burned down or was torn down, but there's still one section that's still there. And over the years, they've talked a lot about, you know, turning into condos or other developments, but nothing has happened so far. And I don't know if it's just because of the historic nature of it, probably makes it difficult for builders to do what they want to do. They probably have a lot of restrictions. I mean, I'm just guessing.
So, I don't know. I'm sure eventually something will will happen there. It's very valuable land, but I just don't know what. I that would be really nice if they would, you know, create something there that at least reflects the history of that very historic site.
Yeah. Lots of little cute little bungalows. These look like they were built like in the ' 50s. [snorts] Look at this really huge Aato.
I like Aatillos. All right, so let's see. This one looks like has been redone. A lot of these have been remodeled over the years.
All right, let me see if I can find another question.
Uh, Richard Hails92 [snorts] asks a lot of really good questions. And this one is, "How prevalent are rabbits in Palm Springs?"
I think he was referring to I was walking recently somewhere and a little bunny rabbit ran across my path. I think it was the Prescott Preserve.
Yeah, there actually a lot of rabbits here. We have not only jack rabbits that you see out in the the fields and in the desert itself, but in the neighborhoods, yeah, I run into bunny rabbits, little cottontail rabbits all the time. Lately, I haven't seen any. The one I saw the other day at the Prescott Preserve, but yeah, haven't seen as many as sometimes I've seen in the past. But yeah, we do have a lot of rabbits here. And I always thought it was funny cuz, you know, they're furry and you would think they would get very hot in the desert and wouldn't really like the desert, but apparently they they like it. And the jack rabbits, man, out in the desert sometimes you see and they just fly.
They are going so fast and they're huge.
I had no idea that that the jack rabbits that you see out in the desert, they are giant and really, really fast. This is a cute 1950s mid-century.
I don't know if you call it Yeah, I guess it looks mid-century modern. It's definitely mid-century. All right, so that was The next question comes from Holy Cow 8143.
Holy cow asks, "Do you ever come across wildlife on your walks?" Yeah, that's a good question. Not, you know, I don't really come across a lot. I do in our neighborhood where we live. Sometimes I'll see coyotes. I even saw a coyote up on the fence once. And so, yeah, we do have a lot of coyotes here. And I've seen lots of coyotes over the years. And they usually keep their distance, which is fine with me. And I try to keep my distance. I don't want to get too close to a coyote. And skunks.
Surprisingly, there quite a lot of skunks. in the desert. Again, like the bunnies, you know, with all the fur and stuff, you think it'd be way too hot for skunks here in the desert. But yeah, unfortunately, I don't like skunks. And you never know when they're going to pop out and spray you. So, yeah, that's [laughter] that's another mid-century modern.
Cute little bungalow style. Looks like they're getting ready to do some work on this one here. I think the biggest wildlife that I ever ran into. And it was really scary, but it would happen really fast. Maybe that was part of why it was kind of scary. [snorts] I was walking up the tram road, you know, to from the base where the visitor center is all the way up to the the uh bottom station of the the tram. And I used to do that all the time. I used to walk up there all the time. I love that walk.
It's very very strenuous. I could I don't think I could even do it now. I mean, maybe I could, but it would take me a long time and I wouldn't want to test it because it's like it's like straight. It feels like you're walking straight up like stairs for four miles.
I mean, it's really really strenuous.
But, you know, 10 years ago, I used to be able to do it very well, I wouldn't say easily, but you know, I didn't have any issues or any problems. So, I was walking up those hills there in front of us, walking up to the tram. Actually, I'd walked already to the base of the tram and I was walking back. So, it's four miles up, four miles back.
And on my way back on tram road, I was walking like this and all of a sudden from over here. So, I'm walking in on this road here. Right over here, I see this giant just giant big horn sheep. But, I mean, it was probably I mean, you would think a sheep was not that big, but this was a gigantic one with those huge huge horns and just enormous. He ran right across from me. he or she, I don't know it was a male or a female, [laughter] but it ran right in front of me and scared me to death because it was like 10 times as large as me and it just ran across the street, ran right in front of me and just kept going. Thank God because if it had come after me, I would have been dead. I mean, this thing could have just, you know, attacked me with its horns and I would have been dead in a second. Or if it hadn't seen me there, it could have run right into me. If I had just been a few feet, you know, if I had just been 5, 10 feet further along, it may have like run right into me. So, I don't know why it was crossing the road like that, but yeah, that scared the heck out of me. And that's the only time I think I've seen wildlife where I really felt and because and I was up there all by myself in the middle. You know, it's a four mile road up there and I was probably right in the middle about 2 miles and there were no cars anywhere in sight. Nobody else walking. I was walking out by myself. And that's one of the reasons I didn't really, as much as I loved walking there, I always hesitated to walk there because it was so remote. And you know, with the all the wildlife there, like the big horn sheep and the coyotes and the bobcats and the mountain lions and snakes and all kinds of other things, it just didn't always seem that smart to be walking up there by myself.
Oh, look at that painting of the tree on the house. That's cute.
That's a very cute little bungalow.
Yeah, I I don't really like to walk in remote areas by myself. Even the Prescott Preserve, even though it's surrounded by homes, when I was walking there were a couple of times I was thinking, gosh, I'm really out here in the middle of nowhere by myself and it's probably not smart, even though I'm close to civilization. You know, there were times when it just seemed like I was I was really out there all by myself and there wasn't anybody around. And, you know, you just never know what's going to happen these days. So, I'm a lot more cautious and ler of people and things these days than I used to be when I was younger. So, the next question is from Arthur Bridges 6155.
What is the walking app that you use?
Well, there's one that's built in. If you have an iPhone, there's one that's just built into your iPhone, and I could use that one. I always forget to use it.
In fact, I didn't even know I had it.
That's why I downloaded one from uh the Apple Store, gosh, 10, 20 years ago. And I think it's just called pedometer.
That's nice when you have a dog who can be off leash and not uh, you know, run away or attack other dogs or people or whatever. So, there are lots of apps. I think they all probably work about the same. And if you have an iPhone, you can just use the one that's in your your phone. So, I don't really have I don't really recommend one. Dogs are family says, "How do you remember how do you determine when you want a video to go live?" Wow, look at this cute old Spanish style ranch ranch house. That is really pretty. I wonder if this is the the one that I'm thinking of.
You know, I don't know if it is or not, but it's nice. All right, so I'll make a right and I'll go back down the next street that parallels this one here.
Yeah. When I like like today, so I'm filming this video, this walking video, and when I get home, if I have time this afternoon, I probably will probably do whatever little editing needs to be done. And I'm mostly doing one take videos. And so this probably going to be an hourong video. I'll probably just stop at an hour. Actually, I have to pee. So I probably Yeah, that's going to determine when I when I stop. And uh I'm going to have to get back to my car. And yeah, I just needed to I wanted to get at least an hour walk today. But as far as uh once I upload it, then I try to post a video every other day. That's been my schedule for I don't know, it seems like for years now. There are times like I think in December and January, this past December and January, I think I posted videos almost every day. And that was kind of interesting, but a little too much. That was just a little too much. Wow, the breeze is really coming up. I don't know if it's going to we're going to hear it in the microphone. This microphone has done a great job though with the little wind muff here.
Yeah, it's been really, really good.
I've been so impressed with it. And so, probably won't pick up any of the really loud wind noise, but we'll see. So, all right. So, Altamera, I think I'm parked on Altamera.
So, maybe I'll just walk down this street and walk back up the next street and then come back to my car and try to keep this under an hour cuz I definitely do have to pee and I need to gra some water. Oh, you know, I did have my I did bring my water with me and I forgot I haven't been drinking it. So, let me do that. Even though I shouldn't be drinking more water if I'm if I got to pee, but I'm really thirsty. So, let's see here if I can get my water out with one hand.
And it's always a little bit of a challenge. Whoops. Yeah, I'm trying not to edit. So, I'm trying to keep the film rolling film rolling. The the camera rolling.
>> [clears throat] [snorts] >> Yeah, look at the uh the clouds.
Sorry if it's jerky. I'm just got one hand here. Yeah, it's kind of I mean there are some blue skies, but definitely cloudy day. All right, let me keep walking here. And I'm fairly close to my car, so if I just walk around this block here, I can get back to my car.
before I really have to to pee.
[laughter] So So as far as when I decide to post them, I I just uh So when I upload this one, I'll just look at the last one that's ready to go live. So So YouTube allows you to upload and then you can schedule them to go live any anytime you want. In fact, I could schedule I could upload this video and tell it to to go live in 10 years from now if I wanted.
And if YouTube's still around and my channel is still around, well, that's pretty pretty yellow door. Then it would just go live 10 years, [snorts] probably after I'm dead, and that would surprise a lot of people. But I'll just schedule this one to go live 2 days after the one that's already up there. I I think right now I have four videos that I've already uploaded.
They're already done. They're ready to go. and they've been scheduled to go live and they're all just 2 days away from each other. As I mentioned in the past, most of my videos don't go live the same day I film them. I mean, they could if I felt like going home and editing and uploading and doing everything that needs to be done, but it takes, you know, a few hours to do all that. And I don't want to be rushed or stressed or anything. So, I just leisurely will do whatever editing I have to do. And then look at that bell.
I wonder if you actually ring it.
And maybe that's like the the doorbell.
That's kind of cute.
In case you're wondering why why I'm being quiet with someone like me, I'm drinking my water. So, it's kind of a nice break for those of you who like to have a little break in between all my talking. Yeah, I always have to remind myself to drink my water cuz I start talking and walking and I just get distracted and forget all about it. Morning.
morning.
It's a nice newer modern home there. A lot of people out walking now. It's It's later. It's probably 7:00, 7:30.
I'm not really sure. I guess I could try to get my phone out, but All right. So, I'm back to Tamaris. I guess I'm only going to make it to Tamarisk today. So, from Allejo to Tamarusk and then just east of All those dogs are really really barking this morning. Look at this cute one.
East of um where was I? Was it Caviieros? No, I think it was I don't know. Good morning.
>> Very cute dog.
Oh, look at this very colorful one.
That's really pretty.
That's really colorful. Very pretty.
Yeah. So, I'll have to remember that I stopped on Tamarusk.
And then I see like a Tim's court there.
That is really cute. Wow. I don't want to look over the fence, but or stick my camera over the fence, but yeah, there's a tennis court right in front of that house. I think I remember seeing this house before. This looks like an old Spanish home. I bet it had more of a Spanish style roof back in the day.
It's probably built back in the 1920s.
Really nice. Yeah. You may remember this neighborhood. I've walked here before and there were a lot of Spanish style homes. A lot of homes built back in the 20s and 30s. And then the ones we just saw, that section seem to be mostly 1950s.
And this one's That's kind of interesting right there.
Let's see which one this is.
Oh, I guess it was Arquila. However you say that name. Was that the or was it one more up? Was Casadi.
All right. Tamaris Arquila Road. Yeah, I think it was one more street up is where I started. Or did I go down? I don't think I went down this street here though. again.
So, all right. So, I guess I haven't really walked that far. I mean, it doesn't seem like I've walked that far, but I definitely have walked for at least an hour. I think I've walked enough. So, I've gotten my steps in. And I'm glad to be walking again after not walking for an entire week. Although working in the backyard, I was thinking I probably get I probably got more steps than I would normally get just walking out like today because I was walking back and forth and back and forth all over the yard for like hours for four to 6 hours every single day.
So, I didn't have my phone with me which has the app on it. So, I don't know exactly how many steps I got every day, but I'm sure I still got a lot of steps.
But last week was really all about moving all those really, really heavy pots and containers, plants, plant containers. So I was really getting a lot of upper body resistance work on my upper body, my muscles. [laughter] And so so that's good, too. It's good to get that. And in addition to the aerobics of the walking. So, probably go out at least another couple times this week on some more walks cuz I really do I'm I'm really missing the walks after not really walking anywhere except the yard for an entire week. So, actually, I'll probably come back to this neighborhood and I'll pick up where I left off. Yeah. So, I think that's probably where I'll continue walking on my next walk in in probably in a couple of days unless something else comes up in between that I film. So, anyway, thanks as always for joining me and I will see you on the next walk.
