A poignant reminder that while machines can be restored, life requires the wisdom to know when to let go. It replaces clinical detachment with a grounded, compassionate focus on dignity over mere survival.

He Was a Good Dog
Added:So, Mike, for everyone who came to love Lincoln through the show, can you tell us what happened and what you'd like the people to know about his passing?
>> Um Who do you love?
Who do you love?
We were going on a cross-Canada tour. We did the show in Toronto. Show in Winnipeg, and then we were supposed to do the show in Calgary, and I found out that Lincoln was staying at a high-end boutique doggy daycare that Connor recommended so they could go up and visit, and bending happened they were closed. And uh basically overnight uh Lincoln's head swelled up. Uh I was basically halfway across the country. Like, I phoned Connor, he went and got got Lincoln, they took him to the vet. They said uh they think it was one of either three or four things, a bug bite, uh a reaction, something, but they said we had a CAT scan, we could figure it out.
Well, we got the CAT scan. Of course, everything always happens on the weekend on a Sundays, but said whatever, like I'm not there, get the CAT scan. Anyway, they got the CAT scan, and uh they came back and said, well, it wasn't any of the things we thought. He's got a very aggressive form of bone cancer. Uh we think it's spread into his lymph system, and um it doesn't look uh very good. So, I was supposed to stop in Calgary, but I drove home. I spent a couple days with him.
Uh they'd given him some meds, he started to respond to the to the meds.
Uh I don't I had to make it back to the car show. I mean, I couldn't not. I had already committed, we were there, so I left him uh in the care of Connor and his lovely wife Jada, and um when I went as soon as I got back, they called me again and said, "Micah, whatever it was burst. We took him back to the vet and they recommended that basically we put Lincoln down then." I said, "I'll be packing 2 days. Just hold on. I got to come back." So, we came back.
Uh I got a second opinion. I got a third opinion.
Uh the only other thing they said we could do was we might be able to take him down to Vancouver to a biopsy, but it would be 4 weeks before we get any results and in the meantime the vets were telling us that we should put him down right away. So, I saw I saw another vet. He started to respond to to the meds and they told me basically, "Mike, we've looked at the at the cat's camp. Our conclusion is the same as the other guys.
His days are numbered, but as long as he's happy and he's eating and he's doesn't look like he's he's suffering, you can make the final decision when he tells you it's time to go." So, um Anyway, we got another we got another good month out of Lincoln. Lincoln, what do you want?
You want a piece of this donut? No, you don't want a donut, do you?
You want a piece of this donut? We were eating steak and Häagen-Dazs ice cream and pork chops and chicken, but um she was correct. When the meds quit, he went downhill really fast and in the space of 3 days it got so he couldn't walk anymore. He couldn't drink. He couldn't eat and uh basically it was time.
So, we took him out in a nice day out in the country and uh Um then we put him to sleep. That's Lincoln's ashes. A third goes to go here. A third goes to the farm and a third's coming across the country for a quiet trip.
You know, you got to look at the paws on the side of it cuz if you look at the sad side >> couldn't eat a European wiener and when I had to carry him I mean, what who was I letting him live for?
>> At the end of the day he was a good dog even though he was a hot dog eating son of a >> Every night he ate them hot dogs and puked.
>> Yeah.
>> I was eating a eating a sub in the truck one day like this talking and all of a sudden ka-puke.
Eat this this gone.
>> Just about lose your finger.
>> I know it was the best thing for him.
I didn't want him to suffer but we didn't want to advertise the fact that he had passed just cuz um I just didn't need hundreds of people telling me how sorry they were.
Anyway.
So, Lincoln's gone. Um he was a good dog. We had a great six six and a half seven years. I mean, Lincoln was a rescue but he knew who to bite.
I mean, when we first got him, all he did was run away and bite people.
But for some reason he only bit friends and family. So, there like I said, he he knew who to bite and uh he was my best friend.
Anyway, that's why you don't see him anymore.
So, uh we've got his ashes. We got him cremated.
We're going to take parts of him on a cross Canada trip and to spread parts parts of him at some of his favorite places one of which is Ross Valley. And uh anyway, that's the update on on Lincoln.
We're going to do a little uh memorial with some pictures and some videos and uh anyway, that's what happened to Lincoln.
I miss him. I'm sure you guys will miss him, too.
>> Oh my god, I thought you said he never barks with you. Stick that tongue out. I dare you.
It's like I'll bite you. I dare you.
>> Back when Kettle Creek used to sing as wild as the wind and it's banks are green and it's >> He stayed there all night and I mean he was coming up to every vehicle and just I know, I'm looking for his owner. I couldn't leave it sitting there in the parking lot.
>> No, he just doesn't want to get left behind anymore.
>> That's what you call a Pavlovian response.
>> Can't talk.
>> Now, okay, now now you're ready for the for the rest of the experience, Moe?
Okay, brace yourself.
>> Bye.
You love, you love, wash your hands.
Jesus going to take you for a cherry ride.
Say goodbye.
I'll say goodbye.
>> Watch this, Moe.
What do you think, Link?
Yes, yes, that's right. You see the potential there on you, big guy. Yeah.
Tail wag means yes. Yes, good boy. Tail wag, tail wag. Okay.
>> What are you going to name her?
>> How about Buick?
>> How about Lincoln?
>> Lincoln, that's a good name. Let's call him Lincoln.
