Our Secret Garden in the High DesertAjouté :
Got a cricket hunter wasp.
Having a little trouble crawling up the wall here with cricket.
Going to lay an egg on that and then like the tarantula hawk and the tarantula will see the egg hatch and then Oh, trying to fly away.
Where are you going?
See the little ones over there?
Oh, they see us. They can hear us talking. Their ears are so good.
Even through the windows.
Checking out the greenhouse.
I wonder what the kitties think of this.
>> [snorts] >> Oh, there's a kitty right there.
Oh, watching.
That's funny.
We have this teneb pupa here. I'm not sure what it's going to become.
But I'm guessing it's going to eclose today.
See long antenna.
It's about 24 hours after I took that first video. It did not eclose yet, but it's darkened a lot.
It's got to be today.
It's starting.
The larva looked a little different from other teneb larvae. It was darker in color.
Usually they're just kind of yellow mealworms.
I probably won't really be able to tell what it is until it colors up in a few days.
It's going to be teneral and it's going to be really pale in color for a day or two.
All right, it's been about an hour.
Really interesting shape.
Really long antenny.
The elytra looks striated, but that can happen even if once it darkens up it doesn't actually look striated.
Okay, it's been a day and a half and it has darkened up.
Still teneral though. I wouldn't want to touch it cuz you could dent its elytra.
Looks like it has a wonky foot.
You can't see it, but there's a wasp crawling on my phone screen right now.
Just saw something really pretty on this scabiosa flower.
Never seen before.
What are you?
Maybe some kind of leafcutter bee.
It looks metallic from a distance.
Lived here for 5 years. Never seen this before.
What are you doing?
Are you alive?
Covered in pollen.
Reminds me of a bumper sticker.
I vote and I'm covered in pollen.
When we have from our friends at Frog Mustard Stickers. I'll show you in a minute.
Here's the ingredients for Kelsey's vodka sauce. Vodka.
And a little painting she did.
Some of our other bumper stickers. Frog Mustard.
Yep.
I said it already.
Cactus with red flowers.
Reminds me of a Christmas cactus. Yeah.
The flower part?
Yeah.
And the Christmas part? The red and green.
Pretty.
Hey kitty. Look who came out because it rained today.
>> gosh.
It's one of the couches spadefoot toads.
That's a good sized one, too.
Cute.
>> hand down there so you can see.
I toad.
