[00:00:00]It was a beautiful spring Texas day, so I hopped on my bike and headed to Fort McKavett. Fort McKavett State Historic Site is one of Texas's best hidden gems, a beautifully preserved frontier fort tucked deep in the Hill Country. The fort itself was established in 1852 to protect settlers and travelers moving through West Texas. It later became an important Buffalo Soldier post and was once called, quote, "The prettiest post in Texas" by General Sherman.

[00:00:27]Right down the road, Pete's Place is the old-school kind of country stop you hope still exists. Cold drinks, good food, local stories, and a front porch that feels straight out of another era.
