When law enforcement officers engage in misconduct that results in harm or death, they may face civil liability and settlements with affected parties. In this case, Louisiana State Police officers who murdered Ronald Greene in 2019 reached a $4.85 million settlement with his daughter, demonstrating that police misconduct can lead to significant financial consequences for the responsible agencies.

Officials in Louisiana reached a tentative $4.8 million settlement with the family of Ronald GreeneAdded:
All right, y'all. So, we have an update on the 2019 murder of Ronald Greene. As we all know, back in May of 2019, Ronald Greene was murdered by Louisiana State Police officers. On yesterday, the Louisiana State Police and the local Sheriff's Office agreed to pay $4.85 million to Ronald Greene's daughter.
Let's talk about it. On May 10th of 2019, Ronald Greene was pulled over by Louisiana State troopers.
He was subsequently stunned with a stun gun. He was beat. He was kicked. Um it was a horrific and horrible scene.
After it was over and they transported him to the hospital, the State troopers told his mother that he was in a car accident, that he hit a tree. However, the injuries did not add up to what they were saying happened. They wrote false police reports.
It was a bad situation and it took 2 years for the body camera footage to be released after the Associated Press got a little got a little bit of it and they were able to post it and then subsequently the body camera footage came out and it showed a horrific, horrible beating of Ronald Greene that led to his death. One of the police officers that were involved in a single car crash ended up ending his own story. Now, federal prosecutors ultimately decided not to pursue charges. However, in late 2022, a state grand jury indicted four troopers as well as a Union Parish Sheriff's deputy on a range of charges from negligent homicide to malfeasance in office. Now, those cases eventually culminated into misdemeanor battery charges against just two officers and they each pleaded no contest and they got like a year of probation. So, yesterday's federal civil suit was filed by Ronald Greene's daughter, Kayla, Um, and she alleged that her father's death was wrongful. And apparently they negotiated $4.85 million settlement. So, the case has ultimately been settled. It still has to go through legislative approval for the settlement to go through.
Um, you know, in my opinion and I'm just going to keep it a stack, $4.85 million was not enough for what this family endured.
Um, the lies that were told to them. Uh, Ronald Green was murdered. I mean, his death was ruled a homicide by the medical examiner. It wasn't a death, I mean, it was a death, but he was murdered, you know. It was a homicide.
And it should have never happened. And then years upon years upon years of these fam- this family having to relive this over and over again.
Um, I know they're glad the litigation is over, but for me the $4 million is not enough. They owe them much more for what they took. You all put your thoughts in the comments and stuff with the model.
