The review correctly identifies how the show is trading its narrative soul for franchise expansion and fan service. It is a solid analysis of an episode that functions more as a checklist for the finale than a meaningful story.

The Boys Season 5 Episode 7 Was GOOD, BAD, & UGLY!本站添加:
The Boys episode 7 is one of the biggest double-edged swords in the entire series because while it had some all-time great moments, it also had scenes that made me go >> Hey yo, what the Massive spoilers ahead. So, I've defended season 5 for the most part. I've enjoyed a lot of what they've done and I think some of the criticism has been pretty exaggerated. But episode 7's the first time this season where I genuinely felt some real disappointment. Now, to be fair, this episode also had some fantastic moments. First off, I love the season 1 callbacks. I never thought we'd get another Spice Girls pep talk from Butcher, but I'll absolutely take that.
And my favorite part of the episode by far was Hughie and Butcher teaming up again. That dynamic was a huge part of why the show works so well early on and I feel like we haven't gotten enough of that in recent seasons. I also didn't expect more Kessler, but I thought his appearance was used really well. Then there's Frenchie's death, which I'd say was the most emotional moment in the entire show so far. And it also makes me wonder if his death pushes Butcher fully over the edge and lead to him releasing the virus anyway, basically becoming as much of an antagonist as Homelander in the finale. But despite the strong moments, I definitely have issues with this episode. Honestly, the Gen V characters being disappointed with their role felt pretty on the nose because at this point, I genuinely wonder if Gen V wrote The Boys into a corner with Marie.
To have a Supe that powerful and barely involve her in the Homelander plot at all is crazy. And I'm not saying she has to beat him, but ignoring her all season and having Starlight dismiss her entire Gen V arc in one sentence felt kind of wild. Then there's Soldier Boy, who basically ends the episode exactly where we found him. And I've defended a lot of his arc this season, but throwing him back in the tank really does make it feel like they kind of pulled him out mainly to promote Vought Rising. I also thought there'd be way more drama around Homelander taking over for the Oval Office. So, the fact that it was basically a 5-minute scene shocked me.
Overall, this kind of felt less like a penultimate episode and more of a setup for one because there's a lot that they have to wrap up in a single finale. But I'm still hopeful they stick the landing. Can't wait to see what happens next and I'm curious to hear your guys' thoughts on episode 7.
