Dr. Adatia masterfully grounds the abstract concept of intuition in the hard science of the enteric nervous system, offering a rare blend of clinical authority and practical wisdom. Her explanation provides a compelling neurological framework for understanding how our "second brain" effectively shapes human decision-making.

Neuroscience: The Science of Your Gut Sense & the Gut-Brain Axis! | Dr. Sweta Adatia追加:
Namaskar. This is Dr. Shweta Bhatia from the Limitless Brain Lab. Let us understand if your gut is serving you with a feeling which is right or wrong.
Please write down in the comment section how many of you have gut feeling. You enter a room and you have the feeling this is not right. You enter into a meeting and you feel that things are not going to go right even before the discussions have happened. You get a certain thing online, a message and you feel connected with that gut. Now, gut has 500 million neurons which are connected to your brain. In fact, gut is the third brain. Heart is your second brain. So, but what is happening behind the scene? Can you trust your gut? Can you trust and how far the gut will be having? To what extent is the gut going to give you that perfected solution? So, if you have been struggling with this question whether is there something called gut feeling, let me break this entire thing for you and do not go until the end because I will give you the formula to develop that gut feeling.
Now, this entire thing came to me as I was talking to a patient and she gave me the permission to also take her name.
So, Priya came to me and Priya was talking to me and said that look, I think my headaches, my anxiety is because [music] I have a gut feeling that my business partner is cheating on me. That he's withdrawing certain cash etc. and all. That [music] is the gut feeling I have. Now, I told her stop, you know, do you understand? Is it coming from your gut or is it coming from your first brain? She said, "How do you know?" So, I started to take her past history and understand has she ever been cheated? Has there ever been such instances?
>> [music] >> Has there ever been a problem in her life where exactly the same situation she had felt and the same thing had repeated? Because remember, brain is a pattern recognizing machine. It is merely millions and millions of pattern, roughly around 50, 60, 70 million patterns at a point in time which the brain goes to attend key where is that pattern coming from? Do I learn from this pattern? Do I recognize this entire situation? And then it goes and gives you that millisecond of an approach that I [music] think I have a gut feeling to do that. Now, a lot of the times you start to take the decision from your gut, you go to buy some things, you get it, and then you post-rationalize it.
Economics, if you study a lot of papers from economics, they say we are not rational buyers. Which means our pattern recognition brain is getting quick signals from the gut, and from the gut it goes to an area called insula and anterior cingulate gyrus. Technical details are not important, but what is important is that those signals are carried by the vagus nerve. Now, when the brain gets the signal of a pattern match, there you go, it says I need to buy this. There is no prefrontal cortex, which means your rational brain, logical brain, your brain with all the conscious commands is not in play when [music] you are taking a lot of decisions. So, largely, decisions are post-rationalized.
Now, why does it apply to our daily life? Because you have to do a decision audit.
If you feel a gut feeling, like Priya felt that uh things are not right, my partner is cheating on me, then what is that to tell you? Which means do you have to listen to that feeling? Do you ignore that feeling? What do you do? So, let me decipher this until the end. What are the types of the gut feelings? There are two kinds of gut feelings that we are talking about. The one gut feeling is not actually a gut feeling. It is called the trauma feeling, while the second one is the real gut feeling. Now, what is the difference between the trauma and the real gut feeling? [music] If you had bad exposure, if you had bad time with somebody in life, if you had a bad relationship, if you had a failed contract, [music] if you had a failed business, your brain has recognized it as a pattern. The moment anybody will enter your life, your brain will throw that pattern saying, "Look, watch. This is not going to happen." This is what I'm trying to tell you. Now, this is also a feeling which comes quickly. This comes immediately, but that is a trauma-based feeling. Now, the real gut feeling would be you are in a totally different situation and scenario. You've never been exposed to that. [music] You have never ever had such a pattern in a process in life, and now your gut says, "Hey, I don't think so, Shweta. This is right for you, or this is wrong for you, or this is how it happens." Because this time, there is no pattern back in the brain. There is no signals which are going from the enteric nervous system.
It is called the nervous system, the enteric nervous system to the nervous system back there with the vagus nerve.
There is nothing which is going on, and there is no pattern to match. There is no trauma to see. There is no vigilance to come into play to protect, and hence that can be the true gut feeling. Greetings all of you, and I'm super super super super excited to welcome you for one of a kind of a retreat which is going to happen in India. There was a lot of requests for a lot of people from a lot of people across saying that we want the limitless brain retreat to be in India.
>> [music] >> We listened to that, and thanks to the limitless brain lab, we are going to have it in Lonawala. It is going to happen. Mark your calendars 27th, 28th, and 29th of November, 2026. [music] What will you get? You will get amazing insights about manifestation, meditation, longevity hacks, how to get your brain [music] into the peak performance. What are those secrets? How can you do that? What will you do to make it happen in your life? So many things which will be discussed. It is going to be a three days and a two nights retreat. We will all be together.
Lots and lots of fun, lots of group exercises, group activities, live brain modulation, live experiments, and we will be a part of the family together.
Limitless Brain 1 was amazing, 2 was amazing, and I hope to see some of the participants again. So, [music] do not delay because we have some special early bird discount, which is until 30th of April 2026. Go ahead and block your seats [music] today. I'm going to see you at the retreat. Link in the bio and link in the description or just say retreat and we will share you all the details. See you soon, all of you.
Now, can you develop these gut feelings?
Yes. [music] All of us have gut feelings. There is no person who says, "But I don't feel anything." That is not possible, which means you are not aware because the purpose The purpose The primary purpose of the enteric nervous system was that it was quick. It was fast. It comes in milliseconds. These signals and impulses go way faster than what the rational brain comes in. And this has also been beautifully described as a system one and system two in Daniel Kahneman's Think Fast Think Slow. This fast thinking system coming to the limbic brain, and limbic brain, we have been talking about it, is an emotional brain right inside. When those signals come in from the enteric nervous system, the vagus nerve carries back and forth, it says, "Watch.
>> [snorts] >> Something is not right. Maybe this will turn out to be true." All those feelings have to be acknowledged. The first part is acknowledgement, being aware about it, adapting to those signals, and making sure that you are aware each [music] time and you audit it. I love these five A's, you know, audit, being aware, acknowledging it, adapting it, adopting it because this is how you develop any kind of muscle. This is how you develop that gut muscle. This is how you develop that gut feeling. Now, the science says 70% of your gut intuitions can come right. It is not 100% right, but up to 70%.
Now, if you would have done an audit in your life, you would have understood how many gut reactions actually came out to be true in your life. Please do write >> [music] >> examples to suggest so that it will help of other people's. What is that gut feeling that I got?
Now, often, you know, when I am talking to a patient, I have a gut feeling. And as a doctor, you know, my patterns have been of multiple times of the patient.
Now, suddenly, I may have a gut feeling which says, "No, I think the patient has something hidden. There is a tumor which is somewhere." Now, that is my gut feeling. [music] I will go to prepare all the things to either prove it or disprove [music] it. Now, I as a doctor cannot suddenly have a gut feeling about the stocks, Apple stock or a Tesla stock or maybe SpaceX stock. No, because I don't have those patterns which are there in my brain. So, gut feeling largely applies to where you are profoundly knowledgeable. So, this is what you have to keep it in mind when you are building the gut feeling. Try to build the gut muscle, the gut feeling in the processes that you know. Try to audit them, that I felt like this, but what really actually happened. And slowly and steadily, this intuition, this gut feeling can be made strong.
Now, this also can be made strong if you take care of your vagus nerve and the enteric nervous system by breathing well. Yes, you understood it right, by breathing well. When I say breathing well means what? Which means [music] every single day spending 6 minutes with [music] six breath a minute. If you have been doing that six breath a minute and six minutes, then believe me, your gut muscle will become very strong. You're quick. The millisecond approach into the brain will change quite frequently, [music] quite easily, and you will become an expert gut feeler. Gut feeling has been made to protect ourselves, has been made to quickly give you that inference what you will take months or years to build, or sometimes minutes and hours to judge. So, gut feeling is not something which you can take [music] it lightly. Gut feeling has to be seriously worked upon. I want each of you to do this audit, become aware, acknowledge that this is a gut feeling, become adaptable and prepared for the gut feeling where you want to build. Now, in our Young Accelerator programs, we do teach children also to understand. Now, when I say, "Oh, before the exam, I have butterflies in my stomach." This is real butterfly, because my enteric nervous system is telling fight or flight. I'm not prepared. What will happen? I'm sending signals to my brain, into the emotional brain, and it is [music] acting out. But, sometimes, if the children develop these gut feeling, gut intuition, then they exactly know what can come into the question paper, how the question will be posed. Now, I, when I was a kid, I never understood all this, but I was pretty sure when I was reading a textbook, I knew this is the question which the teacher will ask. This is how the question will be framed. This is how the answer has to be framed. Why was that happening? Now, I was not consciously understanding. There was no method, but somewhere, I just knew it.
This is how it will be, and that is exactly what happened in my medical school. I got 13 gold medals. And today, when I look back, when I decipher every single thing through the lens of the deepest of the neuroscience, I realized that I had built [music] my gut muscle without my knowledge. Now, what if you build it with conscious awareness, with effort, your life will change big [music] time. So, go ahead and write down how well is your gut intuition, gut feeling built. Go ahead and write down in the comment section.
Are you going to share this to your children? Because very soon we are going to come out with young brain accelerators. Please do log on to www.drshwetagalatia.com or just write to any of our numbers below. We will give you more information on that. Stay tuned. I love each of you and I want everybody to progress in life. And as Limitless Brain Lab, we will try to continue to serve each and every brain as much possible. Thank you so much and have a great day and gratitude.
