Boat Crash.... Watch And Learn It Could Happen To You!!!

[00:00:00]uh in reference of the uh boat crash in Fort Lauderdale on Memorial weekend. Um I'd like to go through this with you so we can all probably learn something out of it and uh make it a little safer uh for all of us in the future. As we can see the video, which is a very far away video, you can tell that the boat it's already left the dock. There is a helper standing on the dog and you can tell that that helper actually pushes the boat away in a vertical I'm sorry, not vertical, in a parallel um motion uh and the guy on the dock pushes the boat away. At this point, we don't know if the engines are running or the engines are off. Uh this is going to be relevant for the next few seconds of the video and I'll tell you why. Um o of the obvious uh first theory that you can have is that the captain after left uh the dock. He was getting ready to go probably he tripped, he fell or by accident if the motors were running um he put his hands on the throttle lever controls and the boat just launched as you can tell in the video launched forward uh towards you know with the turn to the port side. I crash uh crashed against one of the boats, went over the boat and then hitting some people and the dock right in front.

[00:01:22]Okay, some people got hurt. I hope everybody is okay. Then the boat the captain put it in reverse and uh hits the boat that was behind him and then he apparently at that time he could get control of the uh throttle handles, put it in neutral and everything stopped right there. Okay. Now, there are two ways to divide that the possibility that the captain probably put his hands on the throttle controls and those are two ways that they can h this can happen.

[00:01:52]Um, if the motors were apparently they are Yamahas, I don't know if they are 250s or 300s. I can tell from here. But if the motors were electronic shift or if the motors were mechanical cable shifting, there are two different ways this could this could have happened. If the motors were electronically shift, electronic shifting. All right. the most modern lately uh version of this uh of this um motors. Then there is something called in the cable uh shifting mechanical cable called the neutral safety switch that prevents the motor from starting in gear. If that switch went bad probably this could have happened. But if the motors were electronic shift, this cannot happen.

[00:02:40]Even though the control box, the control box has a neutral safety switch, a micro neutral safety switch. If that switch goes bad, there is a sensor back in the motor that tells the computer something is wrong. this I'm receiving a fault a false reading and gives you a a default um alarm or a default warning on the screen telling you I cannot start these motors. So, if the motors were electronic shift, we don't know if the motors were uh mechanical shift with cables, not electronic, but mechanical shift with cable, the old version of the shifting, the if the motors then were off, we don't know that. That's why this is relevant. If when the boat was pushed away from the dock and the motors were off, but for some reason the two handles were left in forward and the captain turned the key switches on, the boat is going to just hold forward in in a full thrust because uh the neutral safety switch um didn't work. The neutral safety switch was damaged. is a little micro switch inside the handles, the throttles that tells the computer or the starter motor, do not start because I am not in neutral. But if that switch was bad or by any reason disconnected and the motors were mechanically shift, this is a possibility. So you got the do you got the two um possibilities right there, the two scenarios. We don't know yet. We're still waiting for some news.
