This video demonstrates the process of upgrading a Land Rover Discovery Td5 from Stage 2 to Stage 3 remap, achieving 196.3 brake horsepower and 442 newton meters of torque on a stock turbo with 1.45 bar boost pressure. The upgrade process involves careful monitoring of intake temperatures, boost levels, and coolant temperatures during both dyno testing and road testing to ensure reliable performance. The host explains that even modest torque gains of 30-40 newton meters significantly improve driveability, and recommends upgrading to a 450 turbo for towing applications. The video also covers common diesel engine issues including fuel delivery problems, compression loss, and turbo failures, emphasizing the importance of proper diagnostics and maintenance for optimal performance.

MORE POWER! - Low Mileage Disco Td5 Stage 2 to Stage 3 Map UpgradeAdded:
Hello and welcome back to the channel.
You'll notice Martin is not here today. He's on holiday, so unfortunately I've got the brilliant job of doing the filming, but I'll show you what we've got in.
A very low mileage D2.
Let's have a little look at mileage it's got on it.
I don't think you can see that. 65,000 mi on this one.
This is one we tuned at the show.
Um we did that last year.
Um it had a stage two on it and the customer wants a little bit more out of it and I'll show you what it's made. We jumped the gun a little bit today, but we're in a bit of a a rush today.
So it's on 184.4 brake horsepower and 424.8 newton meters, which is for a show remap, where obviously we can't dyno it, is is very accurate. Um so the customer's happy with that. We want to go for a stage three. We're hoping to break the 200 horsepower mark.
Um and probably about 450, maybe 460 newton meters torque. With it being so low mileage, um so this one modification wise has got a circ intercooler, standard boost hoses on this one, a decat pipe, and an EGR delete and he's just had a um a VNT spec LOF clutch put in it to handle the power.
Um So we'll flash a stage three on it and then we'll give you an update to see what it makes and go for a road test.
Right, let's see what this D2 makes.
Just cooling the air intake temps down at the minute, so it's quite hot today.
Um you do get a bit of heat soak when they've been sat. Um it can raise up to about 40°. So, we just run them and cool them down a bit before we are dynoing them to get max power.
Um the file that we're putting on here we're requesting 1.45 bar out of the stock turbo, so not pushing it to the limits or anything. Um might be a little bit smokey this one.
We'll give it a run and see if we're going to make a tweak on it.
So, on that one we got 196.3 and 442 newton meters.
Obviously, that's fairly strong for a stock turbo. Um and we are currently running about 28° intake temps today cuz it's quite warm, so I would have said that it cracked the 200 horsepower mark on a on a cold morning.
Yeah, we'll give that a road test and uh see how it goes.
Right, road test time.
See what you think about this trip home.
Like your D2s, don't you?
>> Stop saying that.
>> You do You do own a silver D2.
>> Huh.
I do own one.
I am starting to get slated by the 110s nowadays.
>> Yeah, the way forward.
>> You can feel you only got to touch the throttle now and it's off straight away.
>> Even though not massive gains, when you do get the gains at the top end, you really feel it low down.
>> Yeah.
Even though on the graph you could see it didn't gain a massive amount of torque throughout the range, 30 to 40 newton meters makes a massive difference to how it to the driveability of a truck.
So, on the road test we're just monitoring boost, um watching obviously coolant temperature, what the maps reading. Even though we've monitored all on the dyno, um when you do go for a road test the dyno sometimes not put it under as much load as you as you can on the road.
Um so, it's just good to double check things on it. That's why we always road test just to double check um well, we're not going to be peaking on the boost or if the customer puts a trailer on, it's not just going to kiss the over boost. Um obviously we set this one to 1.45 bar.
Um 245 KPA so, we'll just double check it's meeting that when we get a clear run.
>> Does drive very tight, doesn't it?
>> It's very tight.
>> There's no backlash, is there?
>> Or she's only done 65,000 miles, hasn't she, this one?
>> Just run in.
>> Yeah.
This is a strong engine.
>> Sounds well.
>> Yeah.
It does pull well.
>> It does.
>> It's wanting to be off.
>> We've advised the customer also to be an ideal candidate for a 450 turbo cuz he does quite a bit of towing with it.
And with it being such low mileage, it would definitely benefit from one.
>> 450's a very good all round turbo, isn't it?
>> Definitely, yeah.
>> Daily use and >> Yeah.
Nice horsepower, nice torque.
Um brilliant low down delivery as well. He was moaning that this was a bit lazy before, um hence why it's coming for the map tweak. And obviously the 450 would benefit that even more.
Yeah, we've got a slight slight haze of smoke out the back.
I can show you that.
Probably not.
That's under full throttle.
You probably can't see it very well, but barely a wisp out the back.
>> She goes well.
>> Definitely.
>> I mean, obviously, they never quite feel as fast as a Defender because they're a bit heavier.
And more insulation and all the rest.
You don't feel like you're going so fast, but >> They're quite a lot higher geared, aren't they, with the 1.2 >> Yeah, ratio box.
>> So, they don't feel as snappy.
>> No, definitely not. But, that was that was strong.
>> Yeah.
Yeah, it pulls well for a D2, doesn't it?
>> Yeah.
>> So, we're just letting the customer go out for a little spin, see what he thinks.
See what it goes like.
I'd have said he's happy that, wouldn't you, Rob?
>> Yeah, Auto said he's happy with that.
>> Yeah. Job well done. We'll ask him when he gets back.
Right, so that's another one done and dusted. A very happy customer.
Um just going to give you a quick workshop tour while I've got camera in my hand. We are very busy at the minute.
Uh we've got this blue one in which Martin might have showed you previously.
That's in for 300 horsepower package. Um gearbox, transfer box, turbo.
Uh it's had an AMC head on a couple of months ago.
Um yeah, he's going all out with that one.
Um we've got Craig Slate's one in which you'll have seen multiple times cuz he's always in spending money. Um he's swapping his transfer box for from a 1.4 ratio to a 1.2 with an Ashcroft limited slip diff.
Um because he's going for an 8HP in a couple of months which we'll be doing a full setup on.
Um we've still got the green 110 with an 8HP in.
Uh we've actually pulled the engine out of this, the 10P that was poorly.
Um and it's having a 15P put in with a 450 turbo. So, that'll be a very interesting setup.
Uh we've got my D4 in which not a lot of people know we do much with. Um obviously body's off on this one. Uh it had a poorly turbo, so it's having new turbos. Um I'm going to change the EGR pipes cuz that was rough through and caused blowing exhaust gases in the cab.
Uh it's having rear timing belt, front timing belt and idlers, water pump.
Um It's had a full steam clean and a underseal as well.
Uh going to be doing the brake lines and undersealing and doing the boot floor which is common for rotting on these.
Um I think this is all we're doing on this.
Um just a good check over, really.
Um This one will be dyno'd and a full video done on remapping it as well.
We don't seem to do many anymore, and it'll be good to get you some figures for this.
Um We've got this 2.4 Puma rim, which is a local farmer's. Um it's been to a couple of garages down on power. Nobody seems to figure it out. Um we've sent the injectors off for testing. All four failed due to low fuel delivery. Um it wasn't making the correct boost on road test, but it was fuel pressure.
And obviously when your injectors stop delivering enough fuel, they can't drive the turbo to make the boost. So, they've come back today, and we're going to be fitting those.
Uh we've got this red pickup truck, which you'll have seen before, 300 TDI.
Um it's been here since before Christmas. Um we've been testing turbos and bits on it. Um it wasn't making the power we wanted. We've now since found, after a compression test, um it's down on compression by about 150 psi per cylinder.
Uh we took the head off, and the bores are very worn. So, the customer we've pulled the engine. The customer's had it sent off for a full refurb, so there will be more to come on this one.
We're testing with our hybrid turbo.
Um Our 90 is poorly.
Um after 5 years of the AMC head that was on here, it's decided it's had enough and cracked, unfortunately.
Um So, we're just about to pop a new AMC head on that. Um but it has done 5 years of 2.2 bar boost. And obviously, whoever's been out in it will know it doesn't get driven very gently, as it's a test vehicle.
Um Yeah, and that's about it what we've got in at the minute really. Um very busy.
There's a 110 outside in for a full clutch as well.
Um yeah, I will see you on the next video.
