[00:00:00]Hello, everyone. It's welcome back here to the Cutting Farm. And in today's video, it's silage season. We have cut so much silage.

[00:00:07]So, we have mowed 13 acres altogether.

[00:00:11]So, the lads have just left there from kicking it out. I wasn't here for the mowing of it. Uh I was working today.

[00:00:16]Today is Saturday, the 23rd. I was doing a bit of overtime.

[00:00:19]So, I got home there about 4:00, and it was all done. I was just talking to the lads there that were kicking out the grass. A different contractor does that.

[00:00:26]Usually, we cut the first week in May or we try and get it done in the first week of May, but this year, unfortunately, um the contractor had a death in the family when we were going to cut the last time. So, look, there is more important things in life than There's more important things in life than silage and farming and everything else.

[00:00:45]And there's more serious things than that. And this can't be helped. And the sympathies go out to the family as well.

[00:00:52]My dad was Brendan Melani. He was a vet here in Swinford. And a man that was here lots of times doing a sections and everything else. A brilliant vet. A brilliant man. So, um like our sympathies go out to the family and everything else, but look, we've got it done a couple of weeks later. And has it done any harm to it? I don't think so. Maybe quality-wise it has, but we had a bad spell of really bad weather there, and it's starting to come into a good week. A bit overcast today, but a lovely wind, 16°.

[00:01:19]And as you can see, this has been kicked out about an hour, and the top of the grass is already starting to dry out.

[00:05:08]>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Okay, few days later and that's the first cut all done. So, we ended up with 180 bales off 13 acres.

[00:06:06]So, it's just under 15 bales the acre.

[00:06:08]So, it was not bad going. Um all in stacked and ready.

[00:06:13]Uh that means with 180 and going by the number of cattle I have over the winter, probably won't not going to do a second cut. I'll probably just going to lift a few paddocks if they get a bit strong.

[00:06:23]Um so, yeah, but at least that's a good thing to get out of the way. And look, them 2 weeks didn't hurt it and ended up bulking it out a bit. So, happy enough with it. So, hope you enjoyed the video.
