First Alert Weather: Some sun, PM showers Sunday in New York - 5/9/26Added:
Turning now to the weather, meteorologist Vanessa Murdock is in our immersive studio with the first alert forecast, the all-important Mother's Day forecast tomorrow, Vanessa. Yeah, and I think for the most part, it is a decent-looking day for Mom. It's not going to be perfect, but it will be pleasant, especially for those morning hours. Here are your first alert weather headlines. Tonight, we'll be dealing with locally dense fog. For your Mother's Day, some sun and yes, some showers as well. Maybe a thunderstorm late afternoon and evening. Unsettled and cooler for next week, too, but tomorrow will boast a warm-up. Today, we topped out in the mid-60s in the city.
Tomorrow, we'll be in the mid-70s for Mom. As far as what's happening out there right now, our temperatures are 50 in the Hamptons, 53 in the park. It is 47 in Somerville, 47 in Poughkeepsie, as well. Fog, well, those visibility levels are dropping. We're down to a third of a mile in Westbury, a half mile in Matawan. Armonk now down to 0 miles visibility. So, as far as travel early tomorrow morning, if you have a flight, there is the possibility, I think, that this dense fog could delay travel traffic. Now, the setup. Why the rain today? It was a warm front moving through the region. Now, as we make our way through your day tomorrow, through your Mother's Day, this cold front right here will start to make its approach tomorrow afternoon, helping to trigger some showers and maybe a thunderstorm late in the day. So, here's how things look hour by hour overnight. Watch right here, close to the coast. This is where the fog is more likely to develop. So, you see how this action just kind of stays put while you have the clouds moving through from the northwest. 5:30 tomorrow morning, specs of green indicative of a little bit of mist to kick off your Mother's Day. And then, as we move through mid-morning till roughly 1:00 p.m., we have those breaks of sun.
Things are looking good. 3:00 tomorrow afternoon, now we're getting those showers rolling on through. And then, as we head toward evening, showers and maybe a rumble of thunder. But, after this, skies are again partially clearing. We'll see some clouds returning overnight Sunday into early Monday. Monday looking like generally a good day overall with some fog early, skies clearing through the afternoon.
But yeah, it's not a picture-perfect Mother's Day, but we can make it happen in perfect fashion, can't we? 54 with fog to kick off your day. For brunch time, this is the best hours of your day, 65 with a mix of sun and clouds.
Showers, maybe a rumble of thunder as we approach dinner time, 69° then with more clouds in play. Now, as far as highs with what you can expect around the region for your Mother's Day forecast, check it out. We are looking at 73 in the park. How about pushing 80 in Toms River? On the island, cooler low to mid-60s, and then well north and west of the city, it is low 70s. So again, temperatures looking fine, but you know, that chance for showers not so much. For Monday, 64° little damp to start, then partial clearing. Beautiful Tuesday, 65, Wednesday, and Thursday, our forecast is unsettled as temperatures settle nearly 10° below seasonable. Alice, back to you.
>> Okay, Vanessa, thank you.
