Stem cell therapy for autism uses mesenchymal stem cells derived from umbilical cords, administered intravenously and intrathecally to reduce brain inflammation and promote neuron connections; the treatment is most effective for children aged 3-9 years when brain development is still active, with typical improvements including enhanced eye contact, speech development, concentration, and reduced hyperactivity after two treatment sessions separated by 15 days.

So, I explore and the other treatment options, alternative treatment options and such as stem cell therapies. So, these therapies are getting higher evolution in the time by time. Uh, so our aim is here to make the patient's daily life quality and make them functional daily functions. So, I push it to the other side of this treatments.
Uh, for our audience, how do you explain in simple terms >> Sure. uh, what stem cells actually are.
Stem cells are special cells in the body.
Uh, these cells turn to the other different cells, such as bone, cartilage, and neurons.
Uh, so these special cells we use the treatment for the autism. Uh, they can make the brain behavioral uh, environment. And they can reduce the inflammation because due to their anti-inflammatory properties. So, we use them. These cells are coming from the newborns, umbilical cords. We derive from there and make it double in the our CGMP laboratories.
This new therapy for autism is proper for adults or for children?
Uh, actually, this treatments are suitable for all pediatrics. So, it doesn't matter the age of the patient.
>> the age. Okay. But for not every diagnosis, but also in autism we use only three to nine age patients to make the treatment. So the age is important for us, but in other disease like rheumatoid arthritis, like the knee problems, like Alzheimer and demas, this is older patients, so we can also use this stem cells therapy in older patients also. Okay. So there are some criterias Yes.
>> for autism. Yes, you are right. In order to use these cells, yeah.
What is the proper age? Yeah. Three to nine?
Yes, the proper age is three to nine.
Why? Because the brain Okay, my brain development is continuing to two to age of nine and 10. So we cannot give this stem cells to the patient when the patient come to 15 years old. Because the brain development is stopped and you cannot make this environment purely by these cells.
What exactly the cells are doing in the in the body?
Mhm. For autism.
>> For autism, especially in autism, these cells we are giving it also intravenously and intrathecally. So we are giving the cells into CSF to the brain.
Mhm. Mhm.
Aha.
Okay. Okay. And this is just once or you need many sessions?
>> Yes. We need two sessions for the patients.
We put 15 days between the sessions. So, in this session, we are giving the cells by intravenous and intrathecally. So, the cells coming to brain and they reduce the inflammation because the main problem in the It's inflammation.
Yes. In autism is inflammation. So, when we reduce this and after the connection of the neurons, we can increase it by the stem cells. So, the synapses are getting higher. So, the brain is evolution is getting normally.
Please explain me the whole procedure.
Yeah.
A new patient is coming with the parents.
>> Yeah.
What exactly are you doing with the patient?
First of all, we we evaluate the patients from all the disease, not just for autism, the other any problems. So, they check the whole status, health status.
>> Yes. Health status with our pediatrician, pediatrician neurology.
We are a team in the stem cell therapy. So, when the patient comes, we take the MRI first of the brain. And if she or he doesn't have any EEG, we take the EEG.
>> EEG electroencephalography.
The electric activity of the brain it shows. Uh, and blood test we take. And after that, if the patient is suitable for this procedure, uh, we >> What means to be suitable for this procedure?
>> procedure. Explain me in detail. Yes, you're right. In MRI, there wouldn't be any anatomical or, uh, functional disorder.
Or, uh, she or he doesn't have any uh, brain damage problems. So, uh, maybe in blood test, uh, we are, uh, looking at the thrombocyte, uh, that they are in healthy position. And we can take them, uh, for the suitable, uh, procedure.
In this procedure, we take the, uh, patient uh, in the first step of first session of the procedure, we take the patient in our operating room. Okay.
Yeah. So, we take the patient, uh, in the operating room. And we are giving the cells by intravenously and intrathecally at the same time, uh, with the sedation of the anesthesia.
After the procedure, How long is the procedure? Uh, maybe 15 or, uh, 20 minutes. Uh-huh. Approximately. Yes, [clears throat] not a long. And we are taking the patient, uh, in patient's room. And we are monitoring the, uh, patient during and after the treatment. Uh, so, they have to stay one day, uh, after the treatment in the hospital, because we are monitoring them uh, at the day of the procedure, it can be uh, low back pain, maybe a little bit fever.
Uh, it's normal for us. So, we are The parents are allowed to to be inside?
>> Yes, inside they are, uh, all of them are together with the patients, but the console under control of uh, we and our nurses.
Okay.
>> Yeah. And um please tell me what type of stem cells do you use in this therapy? Yes, we use mesenchymal stem cells for these therapies because >> Explain for us. We are not doctors. Yes, you are >> [laughter] >> Where are they coming from? Yes, these cells are derived from the umbilical cord of the newborns.
This is the donor newborns, new babies.
We are taking their umbilical cords and take this to laboratory. These laboratories are have a standard of cGMP.
They are standards of USA, controlled by the >> Good manufacturing practice. Yes, you are right. Okay.
>> These are controlled by our Turkish Ministry of Health. So, we are taking these cells from the laboratory and we are performing the procedures that before I told you.
So, this treatment is officially approved by the relevant authorities in Yes, yes, yeah. It's approved by our Turkish Ministry of Health. We are all given the patients' names and identities to the our Ministry of Health. Let's continue by describing the procedure. Okay, so after 1 day Yeah.
in in the hospital, what's happening?
After 1 day at the morning of the procedure, 1 day after the morning of procedure, our dietitian and physiotherapist come and see the patients. We are giving a special diet dietary, yes, it's very important because we know that autism is related with the our gut microbiota.
So, the patients have to make a dietary.
So, our dieticians come and see and give the correct dietary for them. And maybe multivitamins if there is a problem in the blood test.
Uh after the procedure, 1 day later, our ozone therapy begins. 1 day one, we are giving ozone therapy. We are giving this ozone therapy by rectal route. Because Wait. Wait. Wait. It's necessary. Yeah. Yes, I mentioned you before. Because the autism is really related with our gut microbiota.
So, we have to make this heavy metallics and the other pathologies, we make to push them out. So, we are using rectal ozone day by day for the second session.
How long till the second? 15 days?
>> second So, every day till No, 1 day one.
One after 1 day. Ah, just 1 day? No. Uh how can I say? Beginning to beginning to use.
Okay. And how do you convince the children? Because it's not something so comfortable. Yes, I know.
>> How you [clears throat] can convince the children to agree to do this rectal ozone therapy? I think this is a sensitive subject, yeah? Yes, you're right. And it's it's hurting? I mean, you may feel It's not It's not hurt.
It doesn't hurt the patients. Uh because we use maybe 1 or 2 mm Ah, something very very very >> very thin uh tubes. Uh, but not for the children, for the family.
Uh, especially mothers are very nervous this I'm a mother, that's [clears throat] why I asked.
>> That's your wife.
>> [laughter] >> Uh, they are very nervous for this uh treatment. But I didn't see any problem before the patients are uh just waiting there. Uh So, nobody refused till now?
>> Nobody refused till now. Yes, >> [laughter] >> you're right. Okay.
What kind of results have you seen in patients with autism who undergo this therapy?
>> Therapy.
Uh, we are doing this therapy for many years. Uh, before I want to say that uh because So, you have experience.
>> experience. So, we follow up our patients and we are we saw their So, it's new for Romania.
It's not totally new. In Turkey you you you perform it.
>> we're performing for many years.
>> [snorts] >> So, we know the long-term results of the patients. I want to mention it. Okay.
>> in the time by time uh after the procedure, especially 1 month later and 3 months later uh the patients are start to make eye contact with the other people, especially with their >> they don't do. Yeah. Mhm. Uh, and maybe uh they are getting uh more concentrate, focusing. It's very important for the families.
>> Okay. Uh, and improves the uh speech conditions. Maybe some words, maybe some words are getting uh to uh to make any day. Propositions.
Propositions.
Uh, it's very important for the families.
And the hyperactive, uh, children are getting more, uh, second maybe.
Cool.
Uh, so uh, we are in >> So, a softer attitude. Yeah.
>> Yes, you are right.
We are, uh, improving the quality of the life of the children and Also of the family.
>> families. Yes, you are very right. Uh, it's, uh, So, focusing, yeah?
Communication.
>> concentration, and speech ability.
And what about aggressiveness?
Aggressiveness also, I just >> medication with, uh, the No, I didn't give I didn't give any medication after this procedure.
I especially mention it because, after the procedure, hyperactivity with the aggressiveness is getting slowly down. Yeah.
Are these cases, um, or are there cases, uh, where the treatment does not bring the expected results?
Uh, I didn't see any results before that you sold.
But, uh, the important thing is, these therapies are individually.
If you, uh, choose the right patient, if you choose the right, uh, disease, uh, your success rate will be increased.
So, [snorts] with respect for those criterias. Yes, those criterias. And also, I see many, uh, success for these patients. But, sometimes in the, uh, patients with the, uh, severe of the disease, maybe you can take, uh, 20%, but, uh, it doesn't uh, so severe and and the patient's age is uh low, so your success rate will be increased.
Uh I'd like to go back to this rectal ozone therapy. And um could you explain exactly what role it plays in the overall treatment plan?
Yeah, it's a big role for the treatment plan because we are giving you a mesenchymal stem cells and they are going to brain and make the connections.
But if you have uh a heavy metal uh and other parasites and other problems for your goods, we can not really work the work to be in the medium. Succeed.
Succeed.
>> the treatment is not working. Yes, the treatment is not properly working. Yes. Mhm. Okay.
Uh one of the most important concerns for parents is safety. Yeah.
Is this treatment safe for children?
Uh yes, this treatment is safe for children.
But uh the problem is uh the families should be evaluate this treatment very before explore every uh where, so they have to check this cells are where are these cells are coming from.
Uh is the CGMP laboratory is this is that have any certificate or it's supported by Turkish Ministry of Health.
So uh these cells are very uh very safe cells because when we take these cells from the umbilical cords, we are making their genetic and viral tests, and we are after injecting to the children.
Okay. Mhm. Beyond autism, what other conditions in stem cell therapy currently used or studied for?
And how promising is it, particularly in cases of cerebral palsy? Cerebral palsy.
Uh in cerebral palsy, the patients have you know that hypoxia, so the brain damage uh they are coming from the birth. Uh we are giving them these uh these cells, and these cells has a repair the brain damages.
So, we can use them with the cerebral palsy patients. Uh especially early ages with the our team of physiotherapy, uh we are getting success success from these patients.
They can maybe walk, maybe sitting, and the most important is the babies are start to make their heads is up. Uh they're very important for the families to see their uh children like that.
I would like you to to tell me Yeah. one of the most successful story stories Mhm.
with one of your children because they became a little bit your children, yeah.
>> Yes, they became our children. Yeah, uh uh rise on this condition.
Uh 2 days before, >> [clears throat] >> I make a online consultation.
Uh also, we are uh, performing online consultation after this procedure 1 3 and 6 months after the procedure. We are following up our patients uh, because they are the children of us also.
Uh, I told them uh, what is your What did you see in your uh, boy? What is the difference improvements? Can you tell us mom? And she sends me he start to reading book.
Uh, yeah. He's talking properly and uh, I make a conversation with him with the camera and Which was not possible before, yeah?
>> Before it's not possible for the autism patients.
But uh, in this patients we take a very high success.
Um, what makes Medicana the right place to for this kind of treatment?
It's of course the right place because Medicana is a big hospital and many hospitals in Istanbul and other countries.
countries other countries Uh, so we are just working with multidisciplinary We have dietitian, physiotherapist, pediatric neurology and I am head of the stem cell and we are properly and individually give stem cells for the patients. It's the right place.

Um I put it doctor estimate on plan of treatment and so let's see if I can find shower annoy all each other cause I'm partly allow a distance to suffer Istanbul I know come come probably patients already know we come to talk to organize area program our consultation program area is boring or that's talk something um I let her the patients been through talk at this session facilitates part of the coaching the logistics necessary at this day I put follow up your ashes communicate doctor all the treatment so what you can prepare for any necessary that we can send You have to say to you that I just treatment is the necessary to be good a doctor that you can do all um session and kind of children is them something um I mean it's not the patient to me so you stay in the way what they they are very near I stand by you la Medecana and through the procedure um patients each other react to me different probably don't know doctor and my message is to say at this local exist patients can I get benefit I think I don't know a single doctor I don't know what they want I don't know what exist the patients can I get what they want to be in control of this procedure exist I think so I don't know what they want to do to get more money that exist I think a limit and through the treatment >> Awesome. What should parents realistically know before deciding to pursue this treatment? What they have to know?
Uh they have to know this procedure is not a miracle.
Uh but promising treatment.
So uh we are getting success for these patients.
Maybe for this patient you can take two steps steps two steps maybe 10 steps for the other.
Uh they have to know this. And they have to know that the patient's age and the severity of the disease is very important for the success.
It's a hard question but if it's about your child, how do you think you can decide this?
First of all, it's really hard question for the I have a son. He's 14 years old.
So, it's really hard for the families because they are getting hope from these treatments.
So, they want to see the success.
It's normal for the family.
But, I advise them first of all, explore all of these treatments.
Where do you want to perform this procedure?
If they have a C GMP laboratory, these cells which cells will they give you by which route? This is very important for these families.
But, at result, I make many procedures for the autism patients. So, I have I saw the results of them.
So, I will if I had my children with was autism, so I will perform this stem cell therapy.
It's a chance. It's a really >> for Yeah. for a better life.
For the quality of life. Yeah.
Thank you so much.
>> And finally, I would like to ask both of you if there is any question maybe I didn't ask and you think it's important to add some details. These treatments are especially performed by us by the ethical approves of our universities and Turkish municipal of health it's important. So, it's very safe for the patients because we are getting certified from this laboratories and we also give this certificate to the families.
The last of the words I will say don't worry about this children. This is safe.
So, it's about safety. Again, we we are talking about this. Of course, the parents want to to know that their children are in a safe place.
>> [laughter] >> Um I know that some parents are asking about the of course that doctor said but maybe we can mention again about the complications can happen something bad to the child.
>> Okay. Maybe we can say about this Uh Yes, especially in autism patients or other stem cell therapies we have performed before we didn't see any long-term complication or any getting worse children after these treatments.
Uh so, they can feel comfortable. Uh they can So, it can be better not worse. Yes. No regression. No regression. Yeah, we didn't see any before.
>> Yeah.
