[00:00:07]Well, I couldn't wait.

[00:00:09]And today I'm doing the build of the 1954 Hudson Hornet Club Coupe.

[00:00:14]I was so excited about this kit that I'm going to go ahead and build it and >> [music] >> leap ahead of all the other kits that I had planned out. The builds.

[00:00:24]And I'm going to do this one.

[00:00:26]So, let me get uh everything out on the bench here.

[00:00:30]And I'll [music] be right back.

[00:00:34]All righty, folks. Just a couple minutes later.

[00:00:36]I have all of the uh molded in whatever that color is out on the bench here. I've got all the chrome out here. Even that little piece that was uh in a separate bag right there.

[00:00:48]I still think it's a uh antenna.

[00:00:53]So, I've got decals and plastic and the one metal axle left in the box.

[00:01:00]And I'm going to get started. Going to clean up the uh body and and do a little bit of sanding on a couple of pieces of flashing.

[00:01:10]And then get all the body parts. Actually, I'm going to get all of the uh non-chromed pieces into [music] primer.

[00:01:20]And then I'll go from there when I decide on a color.

[00:01:38]I'm going to do some quick painting.

[00:03:06]Okay, everyone. So, I have the body taped off.

[00:03:12]What a pain in the butt that was trying to figure out a good way to do that.

[00:03:16]So, I'm going to paint the roof in the uh foil metallic red, which I've also already done the uh interior on.

[00:03:28]We're going to hit that with that, and then the dashboard, and we should be all set.

[00:03:44]It's a really nice color. I really like it.

[00:03:47]Lays down really nice.

[00:03:53]That's it for that.

[00:03:55]Then I have I'll take that out of there real quick.

[00:04:02]Then I have the dashboard.

[00:04:16]All right.

[00:04:20]Let them dry.

[00:04:31]Here's a little bit of a close-up.

[00:04:34]See how it came out.

[00:04:37]Can't get that one to focus.

[00:04:43]Yeah, it's there. And then once this sets up, I will do some detailing on the front of the dash with some uh stainless along with the decals and that, and that'll look sharp.

[00:04:56]This is the main part here. I hope this comes out nice.

[00:04:59]Once I uh unwrap all of that, then I have the chrome around the windshield frames and that to do.

[00:05:19]The paint on the roof has been sitting for 2 days.

[00:05:23]I'm going to go ahead and peel off the paper. Let's see how it came out.

[00:05:30]Hopefully we get a good result.

[00:05:38]Yep.

[00:06:05]Well, that part came out all right.

[00:06:08]Now I have to outline the upper part in chrome and then put the red on that little piece on the inside. And I've got a little bit of touch-up to do right there. I've got a little bit of bleed through there and there. Couple spots. So, I'll mask that off and hit that with some sandpaper and then another coat of this cream.

[00:06:32]So, that lucky on that one.

[00:06:36]That came out all right.

[00:06:38]Next, I'm going to highlight the stainless steel metal, aluminum, whatever it is.

[00:06:47]And then a little dot of uh the cream going through here, hopefully.

[00:06:53]So, that'll be nice if it all turns out good.

[00:07:01]And then I'm going to take and spray out some of the uh the cream color into a little cup and do the detailing on the lines going through here.

[00:07:15]Both sides.

[00:07:17]Probably the armrest.

[00:07:19]And then I'll chrome out the uh handles and that kind of stuff.

[00:07:24]So, already.

[00:11:08]There is the dashboard almost complete.

[00:11:14]Yeah, there we go.

[00:11:16]That's coming along nicely. In in the speedometer slot I'll go a decal.

[00:11:21]I got the chrome simulated stainless whatever it was.

[00:11:27]The the little red square right here, I think I'm going to do a black just to throw some contrast in there.

[00:11:36]This is the beginning of wood um grab handle supports and then I'll turn the bags into a type of leather once the first layer dries.

[00:11:48]There's that sun visor.

[00:11:50]Here's the interior door panels.

[00:11:53]So, it's coming along nicely. I'm still enjoying this kit.

[00:11:57]Uh the one downfall I had was I was so excited to get it painted.

[00:12:02]I don't know if I already mentioned this in the video.

[00:12:04]Uh if I did, I'll edit it out and just play some music over it.

[00:12:09]But, the cream on the body I forgot to prep the body properly.

[00:12:15]Okay? I didn't wash it uh well enough.

[00:12:19]And after coat of primer some light sanding and then spraying on the color it started to bubble.

[00:12:31]Okay? It started uh like uh moving away from parts so that uh primer was showing through. So, I literally sprayed six light coats in order to get the the cream color to to cover properly this time.

[00:12:48]So, that was fun.

[00:12:50]Yep.

[00:12:52]So, already.

[00:12:58]All right. So, everything's moving along nicely. Folks, I just installed the wheel into the tire and I thought I'd mention that I uh I purchased this little marker from the Dollar Tree.

[00:13:14]I'm sure they're available anywhere, but uh I thought it was pretty neat because the uh the spokes on the rims here the tip fits in there like perfect. And all I did was went in and just dyed dyed it around until it come out and it's Well, you can't see it there, but here it actually came out pretty decent. I'm impressed with it. So, I wanted to share that little tip with you.

[00:13:39]Rest of the vehicles coming along nice.

[00:13:41]I've got uh just a few touch-ups being done in the paint booth.

[00:13:47]Everything else is uh laid out nicely.

[00:13:50]The body's sitting over here in the box right now.

[00:13:53]Got to install the windshield [music] glass and all that stuff.

[00:13:56]And this one should be done here fairly quickly. I've just been taking my time.

[00:14:01]I'm very excited to get this one done, so aside from the boo-boo I made with the [music] the paint in the beginning, you know, not cleaning the body properly, I've been just meticulously going through and uh putting everything out the way it's supposed to be so far. There's a little shot of the engine there. The other side is completed and I still have like seven or eight pieces that have to be glued onto this side and they're the ones [music] that are getting touch-up paint.

[00:14:27]So, I'm just putzing along, jumping around through the instructions. Um I just clipped off the the little chrome uh hood emblem thing here. I thought about putting it on right now, but then I thought, "Well, I'll wait. My hands are a little uh like painted and stuff, so I I don't want to touch that cream color on the the body cuz I don't want anything to transfer over to it, so I'll wait and do that after I clean my hands up.

[00:14:56]So, all righty. There's your update and uh see you in a second.

[00:15:04]All right, guys. So, I ran into a little issue uh in the instructions.

[00:15:09]The wheel hub and the spindle get glued together. No big deal. There's a little notch on the inside of the hub that lines up with the uh uh little [snorts] pin sticking out on the wheel hub.

[00:15:22]You glue that up, let that dry, and then you take these little pins and these slide through the back and that's how the wheel attaches. You put just a dab of glue on that and it runs on there freely so it can spin.

[00:15:39]Biggest problem was is that the glue fills up the hole and it makes it difficult for this pin to go through. See, I couldn't get it to to fit through. So, what I've done is I've taken a little pin vise and it Everybody's going to be different. So, I've actually started with the smaller one and it wasn't big enough. I went to the next one and it wasn't large enough. So, I went with this one and I'm just putting it in the hole in the back where where that little pin would normally go through and I'm just gently turning it to drill it out.

[00:16:18]Give me a sec here.

[00:16:20]I'm turning it and pushing a little bit cuz it's a little gummed up from the glue, it looks like. So, there I've I've made it through.

[00:16:28]I'm just going to go ahead and back it out now or keep spinning and turn it out, something.

[00:16:35]And then taking this pin again and it slips right in.

[00:16:40]So, that's the way I solved that issue.

[00:16:44]So, now next step will be to glue uh I'll put a little dab of glue on the inside. This is the wheel.

[00:16:51]Okay, I'll put it on the backside and just in that little hole in there.

[00:16:55]Set that in there and let it dry and then this part here will spin freely and the wheel is the or the little pin will stay stuck on there.

[00:17:03]All right, hope that helps you.

[00:17:09]All right, so so far folks, this is the only uh kind of hiccup in this [music] build.

[00:17:15]Uh, was putting the uh leaf springs in and I kind of test fit them, and I figured they would mount Oops, sorry about that. I figured they'd mount right here on the frame rail.

[00:17:25]But, um I looked up online, and all the um model builds that I've seen, they all put their leaf springs in toward the center like this, and I thought that was kind of a odd spot for it. So, I actually looked up the actual car frame, which I'll insert a shot of that right here.

[00:17:46]And sure enough, not only do they mount underneath the frame here, they actually this little bump right here should be a bolt that mounts to the side of the frame. Thought that was kind of peculiar because it puts the uh axle actual springs >> [music] >> inward on the front kind of uh what we used to call pigeon-toed.

[00:18:09]You know, I thought that was a weird design, but [music] I mean, that's the way they did it. That's the way they did it.

[00:18:16]So, already, here's here's the uh rest of the shot of the underneath here so far, the underside, the underbelly, whatever you want to call it.

[00:18:29]And here's quick update on the engine.

[00:18:32]Coming along nicely.

[00:18:35]Really like the uh amount of detail they put in this kit. I'm very impressed with that.

[00:18:43]There's the other side.

[00:18:47]Pretty soon it'll be inside the frame.

[00:18:53]So, there it is, folks.

[00:19:04]This one turned out really nice. I'm very pleased with it.

[00:19:08]Uh the only real issues I ran into, other than a couple of little things uh was laying down the chrome because I got to come up with a better method. I've been using a uh a liquid [music] chrome pen and it uh is too runny. It it comes out too fast and causes some issues.

[00:19:28]But, that's it.

[00:19:31]I'm really happy with it. I I love the uh the color.

[00:19:35]The the two contrasting colors there really makes it pop.

[00:19:39]Get the shadow of the hood underneath here.

[00:19:45]Can't do it one-handed.

[00:19:48]Okay, we'll just [music] knock that on the ground there.

[00:19:52]There's the hood with the end I mean the engine uh compartment.

[00:19:58]Came out really nice. The wheels steer left and [music] right independently.

[00:20:03]But, you know, just the way it is.

[00:20:07]Looks nice. I decided to leave the uh fender skirts on. I thought it gave it a real custom kind of look to it.

[00:20:15]Old school [music] look.

[00:20:16]And that's the way it is on the box. So, I I figured why not? We'll just leave it like that.

[00:20:25]So, [music] the only uh choice that I chose not to use or option that I chose not to use with There was two. There was the uh the sun visor which is kind of cool, but it really kind of fit kind of funky and I didn't really like the way uh the sides attached to the frame rails in it or the window rails, whatever you want to call them. So, I didn't like that.

[00:20:46]And then the other option would have been to put the uh if you remember well, maybe you don't, but if you go back and see the unboxing video, there was a uh one little piece of a sprue tree packaged separately from everything else and it ended up it was a uh antenna that you would mount right here in right here in the center of the roof.

[00:21:05]But, to do that, you would have to put a hole through there before painting and everything. And I didn't really like to uh put the hole in there that way because if I wanted to use the sunroof, then I wasn't sure if it was going to cover it or not.

[00:21:21]Or sun visor, I mean.

[00:21:24]But, other than that, everything went good. Um another little tip when it comes to the build, when you're doing this [music] one, the instructions are not very clear on where the firewall mounts during assembly.

[00:21:38]It goes into the body first. Okay? I made the mistake of putting it on the interior bucket first, and then I put the body down over the top of it. It still went in there, but it was a little more finicky to get it to fit in that way. So, for you guys uh >> [music] >> just a heads-up, put the firewall in the body, and then it'll mount a lot easier and smoother.

[00:22:02]But, that's it.

[00:22:05]Yep, come out nice. It should go on a shelf somewhere, nice and uh up front. I like it.
