A motion in limine is a motion to exclude something, to exclude some piece of evidence. Some of the parties, especially the defense, may not want a particular piece of evidence to go into trial. For example, they may want to exclude an expert because they think the expert is not competent and shouldn't testify, and they usually shouldn't hear that opinion.
