The video provides a sharp theological critique of digital commodification, correctly identifying how AI "saviors" replace genuine spiritual depth with algorithmic convenience. It serves as a necessary intellectual boundary against the commercialization of the sacred in the age of generative technology.

What is Wrong With Having an AI Jesus?Added:
AI can be really useful.
This is not how to use it though.
>> [music] >> The tech company just like me has developed an AI Jesus where users can talk to this artificial Jesus for $1.99 per minute. Yeah, I don't know if you're aware of this but you can actually talk to the real Jesus for free right now.
The AI is based on the chosen actor Jonathan Roumie who plays Jesus in the show. Users can pray with this Jesus. It speaks multiple languages and it remembers past conversations. Things like this are going to lead a lot of people astray. Jonathan Roumie has even talked about how sometimes people will confuse him with really being Jesus or they think that he has some deeper connection with Jesus. Are you finding that people are having a little bit of trouble of separating you from the part?
I'm just curious. Occasionally the line the line seems a little blurred.
So I I I try to gently just remind people that my name is Jonathan and and >> [laughter] >> I'm not actually Jesus.
>> or anything?
>> I've had people try. With this AI, people are going to think that they're really talking with Jesus when they're not. It's a computer program doing what it was programmed to do. It is an algorithmic opinion generator. It's not really Jesus talking to you.
They've apparently given this AI the personality of Jesus from the show The Chosen just further exacerbating the problems with this show. This is what many people now think Jesus is like. So that's the Jesus that they've created.
When you go to their website, you can watch an example video of somebody talking to this AI and here is what this looks like. Hi Jesus. My name is Jeff and I've been having a really hard time in life and I'm looking for some inspiration and guidance.
That heaviness you're carrying is truly felt, and I want you to know you're not walking through it alone.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus reminds us that he is the way, the truth, and the life.
And that through him we can find true rest for our souls.
Trust the same steady love can be your anchor today, even when the waves seem high, and lean on prayer as a safe harbor.
Now, did you notice there? He did not even apply John 14:6 correctly. Jesus was talking with his disciples and telling them that he would soon depart.
And he said, "You know the way to where I am going."
Thomas replied, "Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?"
And Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." The AI left that part out. No one gets to God but by Jesus. You don't get to God through some made-up AI Jesus. You get to God praying through the real Christ we read about in the Bible. Hold on to that cuz we'll come back to it.
>> What small step could you take right now to invite that peace into your day?
I think each day I could benefit from taking a moment to feel appreciative to be alive.
That desire to pause and cherish each breath shows a heart ready for hope.
The psalmist reminds us that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.
And each new day is a gift from the creator.
Try setting aside a quiet minute each morning, breathing deeply, and naming three simple blessings. Like the sunrise, a loved one's smile, or even the chance to start anew.
Let that moment become a small altar of gratitude where you invite God's peace to settle in you.
What gratitude note might write for today's sunrise? So, that video right there is a minute and a half long. That means in just the short conversation that we've watched, this user has already paid $4 to talk to some bad AI.
There are multiple sins that are being done here, but let me give you three of them. First of all, this is the sin of simony, named after Simon the Magician in Acts chapter 8, who tried to buy from the apostles the ability to grant the Holy Spirit to people. Simony is the act of buying and selling spiritual things such as church offices or the ordinances or sacraments or in this case prayers.
The Roman Catholics sell indulgences.
The Eastern Orthodox sell baptism, sometimes for thousands of dollars. This tech company, just like me, sells praying with a fake Jesus. So, it's simony. It is also blasphemy. It is irreverent to create a Jesus that isn't real and then make it say things that you want it to say, putting words in his mouth that Jesus never said. It doesn't matter that it occasionally quotes Bible verses just like we saw. The AI will take those verses out of context and it treats them like fortune cookie sayings.
This is one of the things I've criticized The Chosen for, putting words in the mouth of Jesus that he never would have said. Take for example the time when Nicodemus was bowing before Jesus in the show and Jesus says to him, "What are you doing? You don't have to do that." Yes, everyone has to do that.
Every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.
This thing is not Lord. Does it speak with the authority of Christ? No. They don't have any reverence for the authority of Christ. That makes this blasphemous. So, it's simony, it's blasphemy, most of all, it's idolatry.
You heard the man in the video talking to this AI Jesus as if he's talking to Jesus. He's talking to a false god made with human hands. The Lord said in Isaiah 40:18-20, "To whom then will you liken God or what likeness will you compare with him? An idol, a craftsman casts it or in this case a computer programmer programs it.
He seeks out a skillful craftsman to set up an idol that will not move. It should be an instant tell that this company is called just like me cuz what have they just done? They have created a Jesus that's just like me. This is just like the false teachers that Paul warned Timothy about when he said, "They'll scratch itching ears. They'll tell the people what they want to hear for money." So, this is simony, it's blasphemy, and it's especially idolatry.
In Matthew 24, Jesus warned about false Christ that will arise and lead many astray, and that's exactly what this is.
AI can be very useful, but we have to be very discerning in how we use it, and this is not how we use it. As the Apostle Paul said to the Corinthians, "Do not accept [music] another Jesus." When we understand the text.
