This video serves as a sobering reminder that "factory-tightened" is often just a marketing term for unchecked human error. Real expertise begins where the manufacturer’s quality control ends.

Installed Friday… No Heat by TuesdayAjouté :
Okay, so I'm back here. Interesting one. So today is Tuesday. I commissioned this on Friday, worked perfect up until Monday.
Monday working perfectly.
So all through the weekend, Monday, all working great. Tuesday, all of a sudden it's not heating. So inside you turn it on, both operation lights come on and just blowing ambient air. So obviously the customer is a bit confused. Um so I'm out here now to find out why.
Okay, so basically all indoor units were in normal operation, but the outdoor unit had a fault. So LED one was flashing three times. According to this three times means it's stopped due to discharge temperature protection.
Refrigerant is undercharged.
Now obviously this sort of stuff doesn't happen to me.
I'll obviously check it but um first I just want to find out how it gets that fault. And how it gets that fault is by the discharge theister which is located right there, the black one. So I'm going to disconnect that. Obviously the power is off and I'm going to make sure it's in calibration.
It's not common for these to go, especially on a brand new unit, but it's worth checking before you go to something more serious like taking the gas out.
Just going to check that now with some fine nose prongs.
Just letting that sit there for a bit and then I'll do it.
Um I just need to try and find out what the um reading of that thermister should be cuz it's I'm not familiar with um Mishi Electric. I don't know what they should be. I'm trying to go through their app. I can't find it. I think it's on there. I just don't know how to get there. So, I'm just waiting for tech support just so I can just ask them what that thermister should be um at the temperature that I've got. In the meantime, I'm just going to weigh the gas out into a bottle just to confirm that the gas charge is okay or is it short. I'm a little bit suspicious because it has a standing pressure of like 400 kPa. So that's why I've just sort of moved away from that thermister and um I'm expecting this thing to have lost its gas somehow. I've gone and checked all my flares just with my hands and um none of them feel oily. So who knows? Who knows? It's pretty disappointing. Um I'm not going to lie.
But we'll wait to find out what it is before I process that.
But um yeah, I don't get leaking flares.
So, this will be a new one if that is what it ends up being. What an absolute stitch up. So, it's basically lost all its gas.
And um I'm so confident with my flares. I just I've never ever ever ever ever ever had a leak apart from when I was in a second year apprentice.
I just don't I'm just so confident with that stuff.
Every single flare of mine.
Every single one is absolutely perfect.
I've slid all the insulation.
Where's my finger? I've slid all the insulation back, back, back, back, back, back, back. Just so I can test it. All those insulations are hard up. That's how we roll. Um, but every single one that comes from factory that I haven't used is leaking like a sie.
Absolute stitch up.
These ones from factory are all loose as [ __ ] Maybe if you deal with um Mubishi Electric, you'll know that, but this is my first one. And on Dacans, they're all just nipped up.
Absolute stitch up.
So the problem was it's lost its gas because of the these things.
[ __ ] that's annoying.
It's all right. I'll get it sorted for the customer. Customer will be back up and running today. No worries. It's what we do. But like I'm a fan of these units. I'm I'm absolutely really really happy with this unit. I have no grow up whatsoever against Mr. Bishi. I 100% install more. I like them. That wouldn't happen on on a Dacon though. That's a fact. Anyway, that's all good. Not a big deal. Now I know. You got to nip them up on the mitsies.
That one's leaking.
It's so easy um to flare. Like they just never freaking leak. So I'm just like very confused.
But now I know they mustn't do these up cuz they assume you're going to use them.
That was like see it.
That's weird, man.
That's weird.
Stitch up central.
All right, so I've tightened them up.
I've pressure tested it. It's all good.
Uh, basically everything's all good now.
Um, what I wanted to say though is like, you know, I'm not um I guess against any brand, but I'm not also not like affiliated with any brand. I'm just giving you my honest experience.
Um, so once again, I just want to say with this, I'm very very happy with the whole experience that that's not poor workmanship. That's just I don't know.
For whatever reason, they don't have their flare nuts tightened up out of the factory. That's That's not an issue. I'm now that I know I know I'm just used to a brand that has them tightened up. What I will say is when I rang up tech support, honestly, it rang and then someone just said, "Hello." And I was in shock. I'm just like, "Oh, yeah. I'm just after tech support." and they was like, "Yep, that's us." And I'm like, "What the hell?" Like, I got straight onto him. Um, so that was impressive.
And he was an Aussie, which is right up my alley because we can understand each other.
Um, so that was Yeah, that was cool. I rate that highly.
He's very nice and um yeah, he wasn't condescending. Sometimes when I ring tech support, they act like they're the best technician ever and they it's like they think that you're a first year apprentice ringing them and it's just like from the get- go they just they treat you like you're a no one. Um but this guy wasn't like that at all. So the whole experience was really good. Um so yeah, he gave me what the figures should be on the theistister. I confirmed the the was in the right range. All good. It just had no gas.
So, whilst I'm letting that out, I just want to give you, I guess, bit of a um bit of info as to why I do things, cuz I know for sure people are going to be roasting me. So, the whole evacuating thing, I'm I'm assuming people are going to be like, "How didn't you notice that when you were pulling a vac?" Um pressure testing, stuff like that. So, in all honesty, like once again, the whole thing with this channel is just me just being truthful and honest to everyone. So, for me, I just never ever ever get leaks on my flares. They're so easy. If you're someone that um I guess worries about leaks, you're not confident.
That's so foreign to me because I think they're so easy. Um, and I'm not saying that in a cocky or a I guess like a a [ __ ] sort of way, but honestly that's how I feel. Um, so people always go, "Oh, use torque wrenches. Use torque wrenches." It's just like every single um, you know, part of my bike, part of my car, part of whatever that I work on, I'm using torque wrenches for everything, just not flare nuts because it's such a um, it's just a copper washer. The tolerance is so wide, you can hardly tighten them or give them a fair bit of a tighten and it's not going to leak at a very high pressure. 3,500 kPa. Like they just don't leak ever. It's so hard to get a leak. So this whole my opinion different people on YouTube say different stuff, but I couldn't care less about um that is it nylo what any of that like thread sealant stuff. I just don't think you need it. I think it's get that [ __ ] away from you. If you want to put a bit of oil on the like um you know the inside of that flare so where it sort of uh seats against the brass, it doesn't bind. Like man, I'm all for that. That's that's cool. That's I rate that. I don't do it personally and it doesn't leak, but I'm all for it. Like have no issue.
But any thread sealant stuff, get that [ __ ] away from me. Um but as for this and the whole um evacuating side of things, so it all started I had a um a testoaxat um and it never worked from day dot.
Absolute garbage. It was one of those inline ones. Um anyway, and now I've got a CPS backstat which is much better. But I've tested that against my mate's CPS backstat and then another mate who has the same one and they don't read the same things ever on the same system. Um, I've tested it against other brands as well, Phil Peas, other stuff like that and none of them ever read the same thing. So, I'll be honest. I'm trying to be the best technician I can, but just being 100% honest with you. I'm not fully sold on the whole Vaxat thing. Um, I think just just make sure you know how to flare and check your solder joints. You never have leaks. In this case, I did have a leak.
That's the truth. You saw it with your own eyes. I'll put my hand up. I'll take responsibility.
I assumed those were going to be tightened. They weren't from factory.
Um, now I know.
So that's why you have these misters on the units to protect themselves. It did that. I'm going to I've just pressure tested it. I'm going to evacuate this.
Going to get it back up and running for the customer. He's goes on with his day.
Everything's all good. Um, yeah. I know people are going to roast me, but I don't care. I'm just being honest with you guys. Roast me all you want.
I just think people need to stop um trying to impress each other with their all the gear.
I'm not against having all the gear. I want to be the best tech I can, but I'm not fully sold on these back things.
Maybe it's just my own experience.
I do like um being able to remove Schroer pins and that um when vacing.
That's cool. Fully rate that.
That's awesome, actually. But um yeah, that's my two cents.
All right. So that's backed. Um, just gassed it up. So I just put a tad over 2.4.
It's 2.4.
Um, I just put a tad over just cuz you got a hose.
Um, yeah. So it's all done. Um, that noise that you can hear is actually this thing.
Hey, pump.
He's a noisy one.
134A. Anyway, um, sweet. Good to turn back on.
And when you look at that with a bit of gas in it, it's running like a charm.
You live and you learn.
again.
I'm going to let you
