The Taiping Rebellion (1851-1864) was one of history's deadliest civil wars, led by Hong Xiuquan, a failed Chinese scholar who believed he was Jesus Christ's younger brother and sought to overthrow the Qing Dynasty through a religious revolution that cost an estimated 20-30 million lives before being crushed by Qing forces and foreign-backed armies.

The Taiping Rebellion:The Story of Jesus’ Deadly Brother #history #qing #qingdynasty #china #chineseAdded:
In 19th century China, a failed scholar changed history forever. His name was Hong Xiuquan. After repeatedly failing the Imperial exams, Hong suffered a mental breakdown and began having visions. He saw a heavenly father and a divine mission. Years later, after reading a Christian pamphlet, he reached a shocking conclusion. He believed he was the younger brother of Jesus Christ and that his mission was to destroy the demons ruling China, the Qing Dynasty.
At the time, China was collapsing under pressure. They were facing overpopulation, famine, corruption, and foreign invasion.
Hong gathered followers into a religious movement called the God Worshippers Society, and it quickly turned into a revolutionary army. They banned opium, alcohol, gambling, and preached equality and communal living.
By 1853, they captured the city of Nanjing and declared it their capital, the Heavenly Kingdom of Great Peace.
What followed was one of the bloodiest civil wars in history. Millions died as the Taiping forces and Qing armies fought across China. But internal betrayal, civil war, and foreign-backed Qing forces slowly destroyed the movement. In 1864, Nanjing fell. Hong Xiuquan died during the siege and his body was destroyed so he would leave no legacy behind.
But his legacy was established already.
The Taiping Rebellion would go on to shape modern Chinese revolution for decades to come.
