This simulation masterfully visualizes the tactical primacy of terrain and artillery, proving that strategic positioning is often more decisive than sheer numerical superiority. It effectively bridges the gap between abstract military theory and the visceral reality of historical combat.

American Assault on British-controlled Newport | American RevolutionAdded:
All right, we've got an absolute banger of a battle today. If you're a fan of the American Revolution, this battle is going to be absolutely for you. This is a whatif scenario. We'll talk more about that soon, but they're using the Empire Generals mod, which basically makes the mod more grand, more historic, more units and everything. So, be sure to check that out. The mod is linked in the video description. So, this scenario was made by the Siberian. He's a viewer and friend of the channel. And the way it works is his friends get together and they play Prince, which is German for war game. It's a war game that was invented by the Prussian army during the 19th century and they deploy their troops on the map and then right before they start fighting, they transfer it into this mod and they play the battle in the game. So this whatif scenario is based upon a reallife plan assault back during the American Revolution on Aquideneck Island or Newport, Rhode Island. The US planned to use a combined force of continental forces and state militia mixed with some French support, a navy and some French marines who were going to attack on the western coast.
And they were going to come together and push the British defenses. The British had about 5,000 British and Hessen troops. They were led by General Robert Pigot. Now, if they could cut off any naval support, they would be kind of trapped on this island. And that was the plan. Well, unfortunately, right before they were going to launch the attack, a storm came in and damaged the French fleet. So, unfortunately, they couldn't use their combined forces and they just called it off. And so, it was the assault that never happened. Well, what if the weather was good? What if there was no storm and they can actually assault this British defensive position?
Could they be able to take out the British with superior numbers or would the British defenses be still too strong? Guys, that's what we're fighting out today. So, you know what to do. Get your snacks, get your drinks, sit somewhere comfortable. And of course, we're getting closer and closer to 1 million. So, to celebrate, I'm giving away a Gondoran helmet, stainless steel.
All you have to do to enter the giveaway is subscribe. And once we reach a million, I'm going to be giving away the helmet to one lucky winner. So, thank you guys so much for the support. And let's jump into this battle. And shots are already fired because remember, there's no deployment phase. This is the epic start of the assault essentially because before the players were playing Craig spiel Craig spiel, forgive my German. Uh, so now the forces are are meeting and they're fighting and so we have a unit of Northern Continental Brigade. Just look how cool the detail of this mod is. There is some really immersive cool effects in this mod that really pulls you into the time period.
And they are currently fighting a unit of 43rd Infantry Regiment, British Army of North America. So, look how cool the 43rd is. I like the 43 on their their little nap their knapsacks or their little backpacks there. Uh, and it just again the detail really great. They were originally firing at a unit of Hessen infantry. You can see the waste they left behind. They they did some pretty good damage there. So, nice initiation from the United States. And you can see more forces advancing forward. We've got the French here with that pixelated Apollo blue. That blue and white. They look they look super fresh. They look really good. So, they're joining the the newly allied uh nation of the United States. So, they're going to help them out on this assault. We've got British units lined up. Remember, the British are outnumbered. They're down an entire player and they have to rely on superior positioning to win this battle. Now, if we go on the other wing of the battle, look at all the US forces waiting in the treeine. You have a lot of state militia over on this front.
So, multiple units of state militia kind of spearheading the assault over on the western side of the island. And oh, the British have taken cover, taken shelter, and a uh a defensive position in the building and a farmhouse, a very wealthy farmhouse or whoever owns it. And they are popping off some shots and doing some damage to the state militia. But if you notice, there's some artillery crashing down. That's bombardment from the British naval support here. This is so creative. This is so cool. It's not actually the ship firing. They set up an artillery piece to simulate a naval bombardment. I think this is so so creative using what tools you have to simulate a uh you know something close to a naval bombardment. Uh so it's like this little island that this uh this unit's on and they're just firing at the flank of the US forces as they march forward as at the state militia. We'll see if they have enough morale to handle more professional units like the Royal Marines. And check out these green pants that they have. They look super dapper. Look at the look at the flag uh bear the flag bearer. You see, he's he's looking fancy as well.
So, we'll see if the the Royal Marines can can hold back the state militia.
Intense fighting going on over in the uh this is still the western side, but more towards the center. We have loyalist.
Oh, you know, this is personal. Loyalist infantry taking on the militia. And we also have a unit of Hessen infantry.
Things are getting spicy. Things are getting loud over here as they fight for this island. And ooh, the state militia is calling it quits.
They're falling back. They have taken significant casualties and continue to take casualties as the river slows their retreat. So yeah, that's something you can't really rely on state militia to spearhead an attack. So they're going to reassess their um their approach here over back on the other side where the battle first began. You can see that the Americans over here have also fallen back. The French have joined the fight.
They are opening fire. Look at the smoke drift in the wind. It looks really good.
But the French Marines are opening fire and joining ranks with some Boston volunteers and they are uh just letting the uh the British Allied forces or British forces have it. And again, the Hessins are kind of falling back here, but the 21st Infantry Regiment is hanging strong.
Look at look at these lads. Let's go back over to the western side because I do see some troop movement here. Yes, state militia is attacking this hill.
Even though the ship, that's kind of cool. The flash over there. You saw from the ship. The ship is bombarding this unit. And the Marines are charging forward through the smoke. They will not give up on this hill. Look at the glor.
Oh, they're bayonet charging. They're going. They're I think they're counting on the weak morale of the state militia.
What a beautiful sight that was. Uh but the Marines are heavily outnumbered.
Ooh. Ooh, that doesn't help. I think there was a little bit of friendly fire, but it did kill some enemies or, you know, the the US in perspective of the British. But I think the sheer size of the state militia, 326 of them, just too much for the Marines. I think he was really counting on a shock move, like a shock tactic move there that just did not play out. And now the very far left flank of the British lines are folding and they're going to have to reform.
They got more Royal Marines doing the best they can to try to hold this position. But there's so much state militia, these numerous massive regiments that are going to be um quite a challenge to deal with. Let's head back over to the most defensive position.
Again, this is welldefended. They chop down some trees. They use the logs to set up a makeshift kind of a barrier that they're using. And of course they have the high ground. So I think the British and there's some cal over here.
Vanguard of the second dragoon. So calavs moving in. They might do something swift. They might do something shocking. We'll see. Uh but they're falling back. And I think he's going to kind of use the steepness of this hill and kind of do a uh like a fish hook maybe kind of stand or or a U shape or like a upside down U-shape or something.
We'll see what they do. uh trying to deal with this massive assaulting force back over here. The Marines are still breaking. On the mini map, it looked like they got behind the state militia.
They could return. Oh, did you guys see that? Oh man, that ship over there just absolutely cracked that state militia.
There's 500 originally in this unit.
That is crazy. 500 men. All right. So now they're making a bold dash to the British artillery. What is happening here? This is a clumsy mistake from the British army. They cannot do that. And once again, they're going to charge in the Royal Marines.
This is a healthier unit. And this time it does work. Look at these. Both guys are like, they're like, "All right, respect." And they turned around and got out of there. That's going to save the artillery. And this might just save the battle. That one move right there by the Royal Marines. That was critical. And now they can use canister shot if they're close enough and decimate destroy uh that massive fat regiment of state militia.
I mean, remember the militia?
Oh. Oh.
Oh no.
That was disgusting.
So, State Militia has limited training.
You know, they're they're mostly just civilians that that got together. Of course, they do some training when they can, but they do not have the discipline that a standard uh infantry has. Uh-oh.
Okay. Building capture. Not a big deal.
I thought it was a general or something.
Um, that was a crushing crushing artillery strike. You can see what what is left in its wake. But that was huge.
So this is going to be a strategic kill.
So great stand by the British because this battle definitely could have gotten out of hand if they lost that position.
So now they continue to man the front here. And I just don't think the militia are going to be strong enough. Oh, look at all the the the balls coming in. I don't think they're going to be strong enough to um to break through this British line. I think it's just too professional. Even though they greatly outnumber them, they might want to ease up on this assault because this assault over here is kind of taking its time.
This is more of the professional side, the veterans and everything. And of course, they have the French over here, which is a more professional force relative to the state militia. But they Oh no.
Oh. Out of nowhere, the artillery, a hidden unit of artillery just slices through this second dragoon as they're advancing forward. The French now stop their advance and open fire on the British lines. The British are kind of using this little delta here or this little inlet of rivers or whatever uh to kind of protect their right flank and it is going to make it difficult for the French to flank around them and it's going to slow them down. So, that's a nice position there by the British. But now we got the Boston Volunteers.
They're kind of lining up and joining the French here.
We got some drumming going on here. You hear that?
Yeah, that was a juicy volley. That was pretty good on 21st infantry. They're going to reorganize after that volley. That was devastating. over here. They're relying heavily on the artillery to continue to weaken the defensive position of the British. This is the battery three-pound guns. And then we have a regimental 9p pounder.
And they're just kind of popping shots.
And oh yeah, they're getting some hits here. You can see it's leaving trails of dead men. And they're trying to take cover and shelter behind the buildings, but they're taking their time. The US is taking their time. But look at the field of smoke on this side. Uh things are getting out of hand for the state militia. They are on full retreat and this this is what I was saying. I just don't think um you know having all state militia kind of lead on I think a state militia is a good supporting unit um but going in by themselves even with all those numbers this the professionalism of the British army is just going to be too much for them and they have them in full retreat. So, this assault at least on this side is not going well. And they're going to have to reorganize probably on this hill or it looks like they might be fully retreating to their allies over on this front. I don't know.
But what I do know is that the US troops here need to get going uh along with the the French. They need to get going and they got to take this hill because uh their their entire right flank is folding right now. But maybe that's to be expected. Now we are getting a little bit of framiness here. This is a big battle because of all the troops and all the smoke.
Here we go.
But it's turning a little bit into a slideshow. Okay, so I did lower my graphics a little bit to help the performance of this battle. It's not so much my computer, but the fact that this is just a very old game and there's so many like assets and smoke and and all kinds of stuff that is going to be a little bit of a burden on the game engine. But it, like I said, as this progresses, I think it will improve. In fact, I think it's already improving right now. We've got another building lost and we do have a retreat of Continental Infantry Brigade accompanied with the 41st Continental Regiment. So, they're falling back. They're reorganizing. And yeah, sure enough, they are going to reposition on this hill and just kind of hold here. And the big question is what do the British do?
Do they pursue or do they maintain this position? Because this is a defensive battle. They don't need to pursue the Americans. They just have to hold on to what they have. So, we'll see. Um we'll see what happens there. But back over here, things are about to get spicy. We might see a crazy assault on this defensive makeshift defensive makeshift fort.
And looking at the angle of this uh position, I don't know if they're landing that many hits, it just seems like uh Oh, look at Oh, the logs are getting like disheveled here from the artillery. That's pretty cool. It just seems like most of the shots are either going to go overhead or hit into the uh the hill. So, I think they might as they might as well get their bayonets wet. I think they need to get some more infantry rolling up on this side, unless there's some hidden units, which well, there are. They're kind of hidden. Some fuselers, some Hessen fuseliers.
Lassberg fuselers.
So, they're probably going to advance forward and and kind of watch if the US forces kind of push this way to assault the because it does look weak here, but it could all just be deception.
And now they're really pushing on the wings. And that's smart from the French and the Franco-American um force because they're trying to not attack where the British want them to attack. They're just keeping some forces here to keep them honest. And then they're they're swinging a ton of troops on this left side to try to overwhelm and maybe pull some British away from the front and force a fight over a more advantageous position. Ooh, a great volley. A great volley on these uh French marines. So, he's now falling back. They're all falling back. They're worried about the artillery. This is just some good back and forth tactics here. Great positioning, great use of these units, and it is starting to improve here. There's less and less frame issues.
So, now we've got the state. No, no, no.
This is This is a bunch of Continental regiments, infantry.
I think they were stationed in this little patch of trees. I think they're going to go forward and maybe keep this infantry occupied. The Lostberg fuselers, the two units, there's another one up here just disappeared. I think they're going to keep them occupied while the infantry here might have an opportunity to push and put some flanking fire on this infantry cuz if they could take this house, that would be huge. I I think the British would crumble. I think it's key right here.
You got to take something the house or push on the flanks and win there.
Something's got to fall obviously for them to uh to win this battle.
All right. So, we do have this uh grouping of Continental infantry. It does look like they're lining up. I think they just spotted these fuseliers.
Maybe the way they're kind of reacting.
Uh kind of tells me they're kind of looking the wrong way. What are they doing? Okay, there we go. They're turn they're about facing. They're very organized, very disciplined. Uh but they are now about to square off against these fuselers and they are going to get the first volley against them. And if you're ever confused at where we are on the battlefield, always refer to the mini map. This is kind of the center position in between the western flank and this uh makeshift fort. But if they can get through these fuseliers, this could be a serious problem for the British.
And oh, look at look at this. They have abandoned this position. What are they doing?
And of course, naturally, the US is going to advance. The third Jersey Regiment. And then we have the Continental Infantry Brigade. And kind of supporting their advance is the Boston Volunteers just popping shots.
And it does appear that the British are going to call it quits here. They are full-on evacuating this defensive position. So, Von Bose's regiment and we got another one of Van's regiment and then we got flank grenadier regiment.
These are all Hesshen Hessen troops.
So, a great great much needed advance for the US. I think they're worried about this flank here. I think they have a a a great concern about this, but there are reinforcements coming to the aid of the Hessins. We have a loyalist in uh regiment. They're going to they're going to link up with these Lostberg fuseliers and kind of fire on the flank. A slight flank on the K Continental Infantry Brigade. So welltime advance by the British. Let's see if Yes, we've got the counter flank.
Right. Send up the state. This is where state militia really excel. Support the main army. Put them on the flanks, you know. Put them Put them anywhere you need them. uh just don't spearhead an attack with the state militia.
And I think this is going to be a huge help to the Continental lines. They need to hurry up though. They need to get up there and just put some supporting fire down uh to keep these guys intact. Um so here comes more and more infantry. Look at this. They're going to use they're not going to completely go past the logs here. They're going to use them as concealment, some cover. Oh, and he's actually going down the hill.
I guess they're going to swap out units.
They're going to send up the Boston Volunteers.
Well, with the arrival of the state militia, the British do call it quits.
They're going to fall back and not approach the US. And also with the Hessins falling back from this uh defensive position, the um all all the forces are kind of falling back. So, they're kind of going to they're consolidating and they're going to the next stage of the defense. We've got some artillery trying to do some pop shots, doing everything they can to put some damage down on the US troops and the French troops, but we also have the US sending up some artillery as well.
And they most likely are going to uh battle it out with the British 9p pounder artillery. So, we're now seeing more and more of the state militia transferring their troops or or or maneuvering their troops closer towards this center position. They've got a couple units here. They even have one that is locked in uh a line battle. I think they're taking on that same loyalist unit. So, I think this other unit is going to move up and maybe support them. But yeah, they have only left a small rear guard, which includes two units of state militia and a unit of artillery, the battery six pounder and actually two units, the three pounder.
So, they're just kind of watching this side because there was there are really Oh, wait. Is he scouting? What is he doing here? What is this? Where are you going? Uh, but there were a considerable amount of Marines here. Royal Marines.
So, I don't know if they've fallen back and went up this way. It's very possible we got a general over here. But things are really popping off over here. Things are they're going full force. This is kind of where the battle has come to a head. This is the uh the great moment.
Uh the the forces have converged. They consolidated and now they are going full force line battle and they're going to I think where the British are going to try to excel here. Oh, we almost got hit by a cannonball. But yeah, where the British are going to excel, they're going to try to use their artillery. Oh, this looks this looks d this looks fine and dandy. They're going to use the artillery to try to help the the lack of numbers, right? And really Oh, yeah.
Yeah. They're getting some good hits here on the US. Some really good hits.
Uh, and now I think I remember the artillery that was moving up here to challenge the British artillery. It was taken out. The British being that they were already set up on this hill have had the advantage and just took it out.
And more and more infantry are advancing forward. We got some Boston volunteers.
Actually, I think all three of these units are Boston volunteers. And they are about to I don't know, guys. This is scary. Uh, they are possibly about to meet their demise. This artillery is so well positioned. All they have to use is a couple shots of canister and they will start breaking these guys. And they have the 62nd infantry.
So, these guys haven't even had the taste of battle yet. So, they're a fresh unit. I don't know, guys. They got to move quick here if they're going to try to take this artillery position.
Things are getting smoky, guys. Look at this battlefield. And we've got the French Marines. Are they charging in? It looks like they are.
Are they going to charge into the fight?
No. I don't know what they're doing.
And we've got the officer staff running forward as well. What are the French doing? I think he ran forward to try to keep his unit intact.
So, I think he went up there and kind of rallied his men. Uh thankfully, the other French regiment is in position and firing. The US forces are really trying to support the French as best as possible. Uh the end of the line, there's no fighting yet. The state militia has pushed back the loyalist, at least for now, and there is a sizable reserve for the British defenders.
waiting in the tree line. But it is critical that they do not fall here and they really got to take this artillery.
They got to take it out because this thing will chew up that infantry. Now thankfully the positioning here is not great for that artillery. A lot of the shots are going straight into the ground because of the angle. That's a downward angle, but I think on the edge here, these two can land some shots.
Oh my gosh. Another American unit is breaking. The British are holding on in this assault. In fact, they went for a charge. The British volunteers went for a charge and unfortunately I think I think they canister shot him. That I Oh yeah. Oh yeah. They got hit from two sides. See that was I could just tell the the Boston regiments should not have gone that way. That was disaster. It's just too much. It's uphill. They have artillery uh support. They've got really solid infantry. Veterans of the 33rd.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. This is not going to happen. I think their best bet is to continue to spearhead straight ahead.
That what they should have done is just kind of kept them over here as if, you know, to keep the British honest. You know, obviously it would make it so the British couldn't fall back units because they had to watch this flank. But now it's secure. Now these troops can start to maneuver over to the front and support this front. And just look at the chaos of this fight. Now the lines over on this side are starting to open fire.
The British are holding on for dear life. They're doing a pretty good job here. Remember, even though it feels like they're winning this battle, the US has numbers. They can afford to lose some troops here and there. Not ideal.
Obviously, in the real in the real world, you don't want to lose any troops, right? Uh but in this scenario, they can afford to lose some troops.
This is a nice combined units here.
Boston Volunteers with the uh French Marines. I think they're really hammering. I think they're actually focusing the uh the Hessen units on this flank. And they're down to 219 men, but there is some reinforcements. We got the second uh the the 62nd infantry regiment.
The artillery is still intact and still functioning though they have lost quite a bit of crew. They still have two more guns here and it's still a problem, a nuisance for the US and this artillery is now shaping uh forming up in a new position to have a better angle on the US forces that are fullon assaulting. So this is definitely this is it. This is the make orb breakak moment in the battle. And look at this.
Even the state militia is starting to flank. This is not going to be an easy battle for them. It's uphill.
They're taking on a more professional force, but I think they're just trying to keep some of the forces occupied, keep them busy, and then heading back over here.
They've now repositioned their their guns to I think they're trying to fire.
What are they firing at? Something over here. Oh, there they are.
They're firing at loyalist infantry.
Okay, I just had to have a little moment there of hearing the music. That was uh pretty cool. I Sorry, I just got kind of like hypn hypnot.
All right, sorry. No, back to the battle, guys. I just had to I had to witness that cool moment right there.
Um, but anyways, back to the main assault. Still fighting. Still nobody's really budging here. There's a lot of casualties for the Hessen forces. A lot of casualties.
So hopefully they can uh recover from this.
They've got plenty of reserves, but I feel like this is it. You can see the general the staff general or staff officers are here. They're this is there's nowhere else to go. So, the US troops and the French, the Franco American force, they are making some ground, but are they going to putter out? Are they going to run out of steam and run out of troops? Well, right now, they still have plenty of reserves. Uh, well, they have a decent amount of reserves.
And oh, we've got a big artillery piece moving forward. This is what they need.
They need more artillery support here.
They need a absolutely need more artillery support.
They're advancing them forward. Oh no.
No.
Wow.
Where did that come from?
The British artillery is just monsters.
They have been a nuisance for the US forces. Just wiping out one of the guns.
But it's only one gun. And if they can quickly unlim this and put them on canister shot, they can start to chip away at these guys pretty effectively.
But they've got to do it quick. Oh no, they can't be breaking like this. They need support for this artillery. If this artillery is taken out, this is going to be a severe severe issue for the US.
In fact, it looks like he's limbering up again. I think he's going to No, no, no.
He's on limbering. Oh no, man.
Oh my gosh. It's this artillery right here. That's the challenge.
That's the challenge, guys, of assaulting a defensive position with the artillery. You got to move it up. And their artillery is already in place.
They have the advantage.
It's almost like you have to do it secretly. Secretly. But how do you do that? You can't. So, these guys got to move quick. The infantry have fallen back because of that artillery. Yeah.
Why fight when you have artillery support? And now we've got the Oh, we got the Northern Continental Brigade.
This is a unit of almost 500 professional troops. This is a unit that clearly it's like their old guard.
They're saving it for the end of the battle. Hopefully to be the tipping point, hopefully to be the moment to shatter um the defenders. But now we've got reinforcements closing in. And we got the Royal Marines.
I think these are the same Royal Marines that were way over on the other side.
They've now come over to support this main assault or main defense in their perspective.
And the British are even pushing forward here with some very skilled infantry against the recently embarrassed Boston volunteers as they attempted to make that assault.
Uh so now they have to kind of redeem themselves and try to hold here. There's already a unit breaking. That's not good. This flank looks like it's going to fall. The artillery is just becoming too much for the US forces. This is becoming a desperate desperate assault.
The artillery is on the verge of cracking. I think they're limbering up again. They only have a couple guns now because they lost they either broke down or lost the crew to be able to to uh man them. So, they're now having to uh re-evaluate and think of a different position to support the infantry.
And uh do we have a charge here? Oh, we got a bayonet charge.
A juicy bayonet charge. I'll tell you what.
And so the Boston Volunteers hold the line and they're going to fire at the backs of those Hessins.
And now we've got French Marines taking cover behind the almost destroyed house. It's at 74%.
Just getting hit hard by artillery over this way. The British have initiated the fight. They are engaging and they are going to put a lot of pressure on these Boston volunteers.
And I just don't think that they are going to be strong enough to hold back such elite trained troops, veterans of the 33rd and the 62nd infantry.
But it's going to be a critical moment in the battle. And yeah, clearly they're sending reinforcements over because they know they're in trouble. Another unit of Boston volunteers. They're going to take the top of this hill. This is actually a pretty good spot. Now they are going to have to deal with a artillery position or artillery guns firing down on their position, but they're going to head over this way and hopefully be the deciding factor. But they've got to hurry because they're crumbling right now. They are crumbling. And even with these reserves showing up, the reinforcements, I don't think they're going to stop these guys.
I mean, they still have so many troops in their regiments.
Quick, quick, quick. Form up, fire, do the best you can. What happened to that dragoon unit?
The Americans had some dragoon units that are just gone now. I think they got hit by artillery. Maybe we we missed it.
I don't know. Oh, here we go. They moved up some artillery in the trees and they are going to get some shots here. Check this out. So, a little redemption arc.
Oh, yeah.
Nicely done. Firing. Yeah. And forcing them back. Good stuff. I'm just glad they got something out of that artillery.
And now we got depleted units kind of holding the position to protect this artillery cuz this is such a key artillery for the defenders. So they've got two units here of Hessen. Oh, are these guys breaking? No. Yeah. Well, no.
They're just reorganizing because their flank is about to be exposed. French Marines are repositioning. They're going to fire upon them. They got to do it quick, though.
Oh, they're taking way too long. They missed an opportunity there to fire at them. We've got French generals. We got staff officer and a field marshal staff behind their marines cheering them on in this assault. Uh-oh.
This assault is trouble. These two I like what the British are doing here. I really do. I like that they're even though these guys would be really good on the front maintaining that defensive position up on the hill, he's using them on the flank and this is going to cause chaos. Oh, is he charging?
No, he's just getting point blank.
And is he going to fire? Nope. He's going to keep moving forward. Look at this, dude. Look how cinematic this is.
So they are firing. Oh yeah, they have completely shattered this flank. And now the British can roll up now. They are going uphill. And then we got one more unit of volunteers. I think they broke and they've come back. But still, it's something. And now the the US general is getting concerned for his own safety, right? Because he could be captured.
That would not be good. The artillery is slamming these Boston volunteers.
Oh my gosh. And they are going to be needed here. And they've got to break through, guys. Oh no. The French Marines must have went for a charge. I don't know if they're running out of ammo and they have to use their bayonets, but yeah, they need I think he's going to try to send the state militia all the way over to the other side.
And now we've got the French Marines refor uh repositioning. They've got to set up maybe like right here and kind of support from the distance. They got to do something. They got to keep throwing troops at this flank because this British flank is just going to eat them alive if they don't stop them in their tracks.
So, let's look at what's left of the British troops. We've got these guys look pretty or this unit looks fairly weak. We've got a healthy unit of Hessins and some Royal Marines. That's going to be a problem. We've got another unit of loyalist up here and another unit of Royal Marines. I, you know, it's Oh, and then they've got Oh my gosh, they've got a lot, guys. Uh, I don't know. I This is going to be a close battle. It's Is it possible the US can win this? Maybe. But even if they say they take this hill, this artillery, you can't attack it head on. They are going to obliterate anything that stand in front of them. So, he's got to be able and that's why he's keeping this unit on the flank because if they do push this way to try to get behind the artillery, they're going to be Oh. Oh, look at this. And then they have the 43rd over here.
They still have a ton of troops. A ton of troops. And there goes more. Oh, yeah. Here it comes.
Here it comes.
Now, they're getting dangerously close of hitting their own men. So, that's something they got to look out for.
And the Boston Volunteers are doing everything they can. Yep. The French have formed up and getting some good shots on the siki siki. The siki the 62nd in Oh wow, they're breaking them. That's huge.
That's huge. That might just secure this flank for the American force. So since the uh the French had to pull away from the frontal assault and help out over on the flank which they are moving. Are they going for a charge?
That is mad right now. Oh, they are So, is that going to be enough? Oh, and the French general is charging in, too.
And yes, that breaks them. That breaks the 62nd Infantry charge.
I'm sorry. I I'm I'm I'm losing my brain cells. 62nd Infantry Regiment Fall back.
And now there's a counter charge by the Royal Marines.
And they're breaking. The French mar the French marines stand unmatched. Oh no.
That artillery shot mostly killed friendlies. That was a good attempt to try to set them up. You got to Yeah. get them out of there. And are they going to keep going? Oh no, they're breaking. But they did what? Oh my gosh. And they're running over their own troops. This is becoming a desperate situation. Oh, they're going to charge into these guys.
So, it must be at this point that the French pretty much have nothing. So, they're charging in with their general to try to break these troops.
And that's huge. That's huge. It's secured the flank. These guys might come back though, but it's too early to really tell. And the US is really slamming this position. Wait, what do we got? Oh, there's the calav. There's the draons.
So, the draons charge in to get a unit of Loyalist infantry. They're going to fall back to avoid the gunshots of the 43rd.
And they're really This is This is it, guys. Right here. This whole position is key to the British army. Oh no. Their infantry is breaking. Okay. Are they going to take this?
I think this has been such a close battle. Oh. Oh, the state militia.
They're like, "Yeah, he Yeah, HE TOOK GREAT JOBS." NO, they they are doing a great job here. They are redeeming themselves from the start of this battle.
And they are they're breaking these Royal Marines cuz there's just so much of them. And then we have another No, this is the Northern Continental Brigade.
And I think they're firing uh some shots. And this is a full retreat scenario. I think they're going to make their final stand where this artillery is positioned. I think that's the best bet. I think they can still win this battle considering that even though they've uh been folded on this flank, you know, even though that they have lost on this flank and the French Marines have returned. And look at the um US is still opening fire on them. The Boston Volunteers are still opening fire on them just to make sure they don't return. But the French are coming back.
the artillery. Honestly, I guess you Yeah. Well, you can't move this artillery. So, they're going to keep it there. But yeah, this is a fullon retreat and this is going to be the final stand and it might be enough. Look at the amount of US troops breaking right now.
It I think they can easily win this.
Do they have anything for this artillery? Do they have artillery? I don't think so.
I don't think they do.
State militia's breaking, guys. Not good. Northern Continental Brigade is falling back and they're waiting for their French reinforcements. They got the French general running around like a madman.
Ah. So now looking at what the US has left, I just don't see it. I don't see them taking this final stand. I think the British are going to come out on top here and completely push them back.
Uh they still have some state militia here. Let's not forget about the draons.
The draons would have to pull off the most incredible charge that would chain route everyone. Maybe they can get a general, capture a general. But this is going to be if there's any chance of the US winning this battle, the Franco American force winning this battle, it's all going to come down to this caval. It is all going to come down to it. And they are on full retreat, guys. The US is completely backing away, creating some distance between them and the artillery.
And even so, I just don't see this happening.
Oh no. What is hitting the cal? They spotted the cal. Oh, did they turn the Wait, who is what artillery is hitting them?
I don't know, but it's completely pushed them back.
There must be some sort of artillery over here.
Something is hitting this cab and it took out a bunch. So yeah, this is this is just too strong of a position. Oh no, the calav has utterly shattered. So a very critical unit that was very much needed has broken because the artillery Oh, it's this artillery.
I guess they've just turned one of the guns or something. Or now they're turning they're turning them the other way. But yeah, they just they just broke that calav. Uh, and they really really needed that cal to win this battle. The US is trying to do one last harrah.
But even when they regroup, fall back, and it looks like they were going to push one more time, the British artillery has continued to harass them to the point where they're just calling it quits and they are having to fall back as uh now they're being pursued where the aggressor has now become the defensive army as they are outnumbered, outgunned, and this assault has gone to hell. Oh well, here it is, guys. The final push. The British are now pushing.
The US have fallen back over to this tree line. They do have one artillery piece that is still active. They can't limber it up, but it's just going to hold this position, which is why the US has has fallen back here. Uh they're also using this defilade against the British artillery, which has moved forward up to the top of this hill, firing down. And yeah, it's a pretty good pretty good spot for the US cuz they are protected by this hill. Most of the troops here are state militia, so I'm sure once the British open fire, a couple volleys, it's going to be over for this US assault.
So, we'll see. Are they close enough to fire? These are some professional troops. Oh, baby. That was cool. Look at this.
Look at this. Oh, yeah. See, couple volleys.
And I think the strongest unit is the Northern Continental Brigade. and they just continue to fall back. I They're doing everything they can to survive, but honestly, at this point, it just feels like they're delaying the inevitable.
The British are now getting really bold here, really aggressive, as they should be.
The the uh the US is relying on the tree line, and I don't see any break in these uh British and Hessen forces.
I do not see any break.
They are just going to keep on firing.
Keep on doing damage.
And this is an epic last stand. I'll give you that. Do they still have the artillery? No. The artillery has been wasted.
They've been taken out by the British artillery. And that was honestly that was the deal breaker of this battle I think is the artillery just was vicious for the British.
Absolutely vicious. Oh, we're trying to zoom in here. Look at that.
Look at these units.
Just fighting it out.
It looks really cool when you zoom in on them like that.
Smoke is going everywhere. The US is putting up a blaze of glory.
And hey, let's give props to the state militia who's still holding on the flank here.
Wow. After a couple minutes, honestly, I thought they were going to break. The British are calling it quits.
They're calling it quits. They're falling back a little bit here. I don't know if that was a smart move. You might have I mean, it might have been better to just stay where you are. just kept fighting because if you turn your back to the enemy, you're going to lose some, you know, unnecessary casualties.
But where's that artillery? Where is that artillery? Get that thing firing.
You can kind of see it over here. But that you need to get firing. You need to land some shots here because these guys got some fight in them. Even on the far flank on the right. So this is the British right flank. If you kind of zoom out, you can see where we are. We've got a random unit of loyalists pushing on some British volunteers that have returned. They're using this little uh hill uh to help them out. They might actually win here. Look at this. The US is kind of crawling their way back into this one. Uh kind of, you know, limping away like a sad old dog and then all of a sudden turning into a pit bull or something and just fighting ferociously and and really causing an issue for the British. Uh, so I don't know if the British got a little too ahead of themselves pursuing. They were probably thinking, "Oh, this is over. Uh, we're going to just pursue these guys and break them and be victorious."
But there is a little uh second wind coming in for the Americans as the state militia are just not willing to break anymore. They're not breaking. They are fighting and this tree line is definitely helping them out. We got two very good 43rd Infantry, 21st Infantry, two very good units of infantry. And now coming out of the woodwork, literally coming out of the trees. State militia and the Northern Continental Brigade.
They are trying to I think they're going to try to overwhelm them with the amount of guns they have firing down on their position, but they've got to get the artillery.
There it is. They're getting the artillery forward. They They can't get too lazy here. You can't assume an easy victory. move up that artillery. That's where your strength is. And crush this these US forces. That's what they have to do to win this one. But right now, the US has played this pretty well. The nice retreat looking sad and old and decrepit and then all of a sudden looking like a ferocious lion. They continue to fight on in a great defensive position. Now, the US is getting very aggressive, and I think the reason for that is because they're hoping they can break the infantry before the artillery sets up. Some of the artillery is not quite in position.
They're walking. I would be Well, let's see. They're pushing forward now. The US is pushing forward here. Maybe if they can quickly get these Boston volunteers in position to fire upon the battery and kill the crew, there is a chance. But this is such a long shot. This is a long shot. And this infantry is all disorganized. I don't know what's going on here.
But they are doing their best, that's for sure.
Taking on a sup taking on a larger force. Not necessarily a superior force, but a larger force. Superior in numbers.
Now the artillery has set up. I think it's too late to make a move on that artillery. So, they're going to they're going to keep firing, I assume, into the Boston Volunteers, maybe or maybe the general over there.
But look at this stand.
This is wild.
Well, there we go. After a couple moments of artillery, we are getting our first glimpse of retreat. And that was to be expected.
But a very, very valiant Uh-oh.
Oh no. What? Oh no. A US general has been killed. General Sullivan.
So I think after this scenario, maybe that storm that came in was a blessing and this assault would have been a disaster. Now, of course, this is a video game and it's not a perfect simulation, but it's something to consider. You know, sometimes things in life look like disaster, but end up being uh really good luck or or just, you know, benefited you much more than you'd ever think.
But now we've got this is definitely the the final stand here. Here we got the general charging in.
Once the general's dead, now we got the state militia or no, northern continental brigade. They're going to charge in and like, let's give them the cold steel, boys. Even though they're northern, you know, not quite have that accent, but they're most likely going to Yep.
break. And there you have it, guys. The British stand victorious.
And here's the defeat screen. that is all kind of all kinds of glitched out.
But I will show you the actual scores here and the actual players. Uh general pixelated Apollo was not at this battle.
So uh yeah, here here are the the players and the kills and everything. So this was a lot of fun. I think what really was the deal breaker for the US is the the British positioning with the artillery just seemed so destructive that they just couldn't they couldn't overcome it. And and I really think that Boston, the Boston Volunteers on that left flank when they pushed up that hill, they just got destroyed and that was pretty bad. And the state militia kind of spearheading an attack which didn't really help. So, uh, great battle. This was a lot of fun. Hopefully we can get some more of these in the future. If you guys did like the battle, don't forget to like, share, and subscribe. I do appreciate the support guys and I will see you next time on the battlefield.
