Friday Night Earthquake update, Latest Space weather activity. Big Sunspot just about viewable.追加:
All right, good evening everyone. Now welcome back here to a Friday night. The weekend is definitely upon us here. It's 10:34 p.m. California time, May 22nd, 2026.
Latest activity here on the earthquake 3D globe shows a 2.8.
Uh let's see where we're hiding at tonight. Looks like down across the South America area.
Still got a pretty good cluster of earthquake activity out here. It's been that way in the last couple days.
Nothing big going on yet, but uh as you can see, quite the pancake of earthquake activity going on there stacked upon one another. Remember, the white rings indicating older activity or newer activity, the red color rings indicating some older activity, but most of this here is fairly new.
You've been getting some northward migration up along the Peru area.
Uh Middle America trench showing some activity as well across the Central America region. Quite a few of twos and threes working its way up here towards Mexico.
Um nothing yet here across the California area. Let's take a look and see what we got.
Uh nothing above 2.5 aside from that 2.7 there in Little Lake.
Uh a lot of micro quake activity out here, but uh I don't see anything of any major uptick going on for now.
Got about 42 earthquakes here in the last 24 hours.
Most of these all small micro quake activity.
Bay Area not even a lip of an earthquake. What is going on out there?
The last 7 days here of earthquake activity is not 200, well, it is 221, but not around the Bay Area.
That's up along the uh geothermal fields. Uh really nothing of anything going on there across the Bay Area. And nothing in the last 24 hours, so San Francisco Bay region pretty darn quiet.
Up in at the Cascadia here one more earthquake 13 miles deep here into the southern end of the Cascadia subduction zone. I was just checking out the uh tremor map here, tremor or slow slip event map.
Uh and it looks like it's tapered off a little bit. Yesterday, we had a little bit higher number there up in the 200 range. Today, 49 epicenters, but still underneath the Northern California area and literally right around uh the region where the uh 2.0 struck here earlier this evening. Not a big earthquake, but still building up quite a bit of stress there.
Uh the Pacific Northwest, some earthquake activity showing up there on Mount Rainier. We checked out this morning, same for the Mount St. Helens area. Yes, there is uh what looks like more earthquake activity showing up than what is being reported there across the um This is from Mount St. Helens. As you can see, there's some earthquake activity out here in the last few hours.
Uh if we look at the Mount Rainier seismograph station here, I'm sure it's going to show the same.
It uh you know, it it just a small microquake event, quite a bit of them though. Um I don't think this is anything of any Wow, that one's definitely not working.
Let's go check out a different seismograph station here cuz that one's out of whack.
Um we can look at maybe this one down here and see if this one's functioning this evening.
Loading. There we go. See, this one looks nice.
Well-defined uh seismograph station lines, but notice what do you guys see out there? I see a bunch of earthquakes.
We can even lower this here to bring out those uh uh details a little bit more. They're very small earthquakes, but they are earthquakes nonetheless, and there's quite a few out there uh there across Mount Rainier.
They are reporting just a couple from this morning, but since then we've had quite a few, as you can see.
Hopefully, they'll get on those as far as the reporting goes. Uh Yellowstone National Park, really nothing major going on. Here's the latest seismograph station there across the Yellowstone area. One earthquake earlier this evening, maybe a couple small ones this morning, but overall, not a big day for earthquake activity out there. The Utah area, just a handful of smaller quakes. Same for Nevada, looking a little quiet out here across Nevada for now after being seismically active over the last few months.
Uh things may be taking a little break there. Oil fields out in Texas, still rocking and rolling, no break out there.
Eastern portion of the country, quiet.
So, the largest event out here in the last 24 hours goes to that 5.7 there across the Papua New Guinea area.
5.6 up in Alaska for third.
Uh Solomon Islands there, 5.4, but ever since this morning's update, there's there's really not a whole lot of larger activity taking place out here right now.
No six-pointers.
Uh so, just uh looks like a typical day out here.
Um far as earthquake activity goes, nothing going on across New Zealand, typical movement here across the Java Trench. Japan, quiet.
Uh the rest of the country out here or rest of the world, excuse me.
Uh got some four-pointers out there, looks like around where is that? Italy area.
Uh but nothing big, nothing major going on across the Atlantic.
There's that deep earthquake there, 3.6, following all that activity this morning, but nothing major.
But uh we we do have some space weather activity coming up here in the days ahead, that may kick up some elevated earthquake activity. We'll have to watch for that.
Um I think we're starting to see the leading edge over here of that big sunspot, just barely.
Possibly, there's a number of regions coming around there at the eastern limb that are quite active. And uh probably going to stir up the space weather activity here quite a bit in terms of flaring.
Here's one of the latest image images of that massive sun spot here on the eastern limb. This is the earth-facing side of the sun on a flat scale model uh image here.
Uh not really impressed with this area.
This one is holding together though and this area did produce a bunch of X flares here couple days ago back when it was uh a little bit further on the far side of the sun, but we'll see a glimpse of that here in the coming days and I think we'll see a a little bit of flaring uptick. Does look like we're already seeing a little bit of crackling or sizzling going on um with that sunspot just about ready to turn into view, so.
Uh flare threat right now 90% chance there for C flare, M flare at 25, X flare at 5%.
Those numbers should go up once we get uh a little bit better view of that sunspot.
Uh nothing major going on for the aurora department for now, folks. Pretty quiet out there for the auroras, but that could change here. We'll have to see.
Um I wasn't after that. I was after the uh storm prediction center here.
Any uh any big-time tornadoes out there today?
Looks like there was quite a few out there in Texas.
I got 13 reports, the majority of those in Texas. There are quite a few land spouts. They do call them, you know, they're kind of a different they're it's a different formation there.
Uh instead of the wall cloud, it kind of comes up uh different way, but yeah, look at all those land spouts.
Quite a bit.
Uh let's see. So, for the severe weather today or I should say for tomorrow, this is going to be for Saturday. Got uh a little marginal risk out here in the dark green.
Hardly any tornado threat, but there is some in the green there. A little bit of wind and maybe a little bit of hail threat there across Texas.
Uh but that's about it.
Uh the conditions out here are going to be not favorable for any severe weather setups anytime soon. Potentially next weekend maybe we'll get that low pressure system here tapping into some moisture and might stir up the severe weather again. But that's a big if.
Uh California, man, I wish we could say we're getting some rain, but uh that's nowhere in sight.
Unfortunately, the precipitation accumulation map out here shows California high, hot, and dry.
And um you know, not a whole lot going on there for precipitation, unfortunately. But uh that's that's what happens this time of year.
Little earthquake on the Chile station, little bit on Anza. Not anything major going on out there, but of course we will continue to watch things. If anything does pop off out here, we will provide updates as uh need be. In the meantime, folks, enjoy your Friday night. I'm sure it's Saturday morning for quite a few out there.
Take care. We will see you out here for our Saturday morning uh for the Saturday morning update here after hopefully a good night of sleep.
Have a good one.
