This video demonstrates the process of modifying a vehicle's wheelbase by welding a shortened bed onto a different chassis, showing how to use a stick welder for structural repairs, create wooden fillers for deck leveling, and achieve proper wheel alignment through careful welding and assembly techniques.

New wheelbase for 1963 Ford F100 body swap on 2002 BMW 325xi, Mini truck project updateAdded:
Okay, so I'm going to go ahead and knock out the welds for the side number two.
We're going to do the passenger side. I have my bolts and my washers holding everything lined up in place so I can just throw a weld right down. Boop.
Already threw a tack weld in the top to make sure the top stays lined up. And yes, I am doing this with a stick welder.
I don't have any power in this garage, so I'm working directly off this battery box. Do not have 220 to run my good welder, and I don't have gas, so stick welder it is.
This is my femoral stick welder.
Got my stick welder skills.
Welds look like absolute ass.
Now, I am not a welder. However, these will hold good enough. I'll grind them down, make them look a little bit nicer, and I got to patch this hole right here.
Not a big deal. They're not looking great, but they will hold. That's all I need.
Side two is for the most part done.
You got to patch a few little spots down here. It is what it is. I'm going to leave that be for now. I threw a bunch of welds on the back side of this thing, and then once I had all the welds done on the back side, I came around to the front, did a little bead down the front.
And I I beat on the welds with a hammer. We're good.
They ain't going to snap.
So, I'm going to go ahead, get this thing hoisted up in place right now, and then we can swing it over the top of the car truck, whatever you guys want to call this thing at the moment, and figure out how it fits. So, after a ton of work, I now have the bed in place, mocked up and ready to go. I have welds in the cab, welds in the front clip, and our wheelbase is perfect now.
We're looking great. The bed shaped up perfectly. Still got to do my grinding, do my little bondo work. I might even just leave the welds and just grind them down, but we'll see.
Bed Obviously, this sits a bit lower, so I'm just going to make a wooden filler for this whole panel right here, so we have a nice flat deck. And uh probably trim this down. I'm still going to put a spare tire in there just in case.
Leaving the battery where it is. I'm going to tie this all off, make it nice, make it waterproof, or at least water resistant.
But right now, this thing is coming out beautifully.
Real happy with it.
Tire sits perfectly where it needs to now.
The bed is a perfect length.
This was 2 days of just non-stop cutting and welding, but definitely paid off.
That sits exactly where it needs to now.
But I'll see you guys in the next one.
Until then, hit that like button, subscribe, stay tuned. Peace.
