I when I went with my family probably last Mother's Day actually um I ate off of the um salad bar, but it was not salad bar.

[00:05:15]They had like like um uh a graten potatoes and things like that. So it was um good, but I'm on muro. I can't eat that much. I couldn't eat that much. I don't even think before. Probably if we stayed for a while, I probably could have done that.

[00:06:06]We've gone back and forth just a couple times, but I thought I might send him that article just so he could know. What do you all think? Okay, so the deal is with the article, what I wrote was that my chronic kidney disease healed or is healing more with the Mongjaro than it did with insulin or truly and um and then I also had to use during the shortage I had to use my Mjaro. They would give me a 7.5 10 or 12.5 pen and I'd have to augment with compounding. My li my kidney values dove into the toilet when I went on the compounded. And the moment I went off the compounded, my values when it was straight Mjaro, the the um name brand Mjaro went right back up and kept sailing. So, I know that like Christopher really swears by the compounding.

[00:07:08]Now, when I was on the compounding, I lost weight, but metabolically it wasn't doing what it needed to do for me. So, I don't know exactly what the difference is, but and I didn't believe there was a difference for a long time.

[00:07:24]looking at my substack. If you go look at my substack, the latest substack, it's at the metabolic the metab metabolic midwife and see exactly I have my graphs there and you can actually watch what happens during the time that I'm on the on the um insulin only, then we add tricity, then I wean off of the insulin, blah blah blah blah blah, and then when it goes down to the compounding, then it soarses up. Great.

[00:07:54]The going up is fantastic and the going up just soarses once I'm on the Mandaro.

[00:08:00]So, it's very weird. Um Travis is going to a little Italian place that she loves. Olive Garden. I know she loves it. Yeah. Little Italian place. Exactly.

[00:08:10]Tristan, my son used to work there. Um we did chicken salad, white fish salad, egg salad, and sides. Oh, Michelle, that sounds yummy.

[00:08:25]I'll eat I'll eat the sides and you can eat the meat. Lynn says I don't eat that much, but all meat. Yeah, I haven't had meat in many, many, many, many years.

[00:08:37]Um, no red meat um or pork. I do eat chicken um and fish, some fish. I like salmon. I love catfish. Catfish is my favorite. Michelle, I don't do much red meat, but do chicken, pork, and fish. I will eat red meat, but not often. Yeah, I can't do pork.

[00:08:58]And I don't know if that was when I I I hadn't even eaten pork when I was considering changing to Judaism to be Jewish. It didn't even what it was way before that. I just never liked pork chops. I had to put a uh A1 sauce on it and then dip it in ketchup. And it was like, why am I even eating this? It's just ridiculous.

[00:09:22]We are all different, Gwen. You're right. Gwen says we are all different.

[00:09:27]Everybody's body acts differently. As Mindy would say, everybody's different and everybody is different. Exactly.

[00:09:36]Well, I love hearing what y'all are doing. What did I have? Oh, I had a shake this morning and then I was like getting hungry and I don't get hungry very often, but I had not eaten and I knew I would not do well if I didn't eat before I came and saw y'all. So, I had one more healthy choice in the freezer and I ate half of it.

[00:10:00]I've been eating too fast. And this is something that I somebody wrote about was eating fast actually makes for visceral fat. So I I and before that I realized I was eating fast. So I had a sticky on my computer. I got it all gushy with Alfredo sauce. Um so I had to throw it away. I need a new one that says eat slowly. Take tiny bites.

[00:10:29]camera does mostly man mainly meat too.

[00:10:33]Um, and so what I've been doing because I used to only eat little bits at a time, but when I was really big and eating the 8 to 10,000 calories a day, I would eat a little bit at a time and then I would graze through 8,000 calories in a day.

[00:10:54]So grazing kind of concerns me. I've got some sitting over there, but I don't think I've had enough protein or food today, so I'll eat it.

[00:11:05]It's just juggling thing. And then the other day, I don't know if y'all got to see my um park bench chat with Julio from uh It's going to take me a second. I know it by heart, but it's just I'm thinking about him at the park. Um, oh, for crying out loud, Barb.

[00:11:35]Riding the tide. There we go. Riding the tide. Julio's really cool. We're very, very different um creators, but Oh, I'm glad. Rejoyed the park bench chat with Julio. Yeah. Gwen says she had half a baked potato with cauliflower cheese on top for lunch. That sounds good. Yummy.

[00:11:55]Yeah, Julio was wonderful. We got along like as if he was my kid. He We were just We had such a good time. And we went to lunch afterwards as well.

[00:12:16]He counts every calorie. He counts every gram of protein. He exercises like a banshee. He goes to jiu-jitsu. He's just, you know, really, really, really active and and very statisticoriented and that is like the complete opposite of me. So, um, so he he fits people. He and Amanda from Amanda Widner Wellness W Ide Amanda Widner Wellness. Amanda is a group fitness instructor. And so even when she was over 200 pounds, she was a fitness instructor and a lot of the people who were really big loved to come and see her. And the people who were not would say things like or she'd see them like roll their eyes thinking she's never gonna give us a good workout and she did. So she's very fitnessoriented as well. Absolutely love her. She and Julio, one one male, one female, um is they're both just really amazing and do things I could never do. So, um, Nancy Nancy asked, "Barb, how is your LDL? Mine went up last test. Still in the normal range, but I want to keep it that way. The only thing I can think is that I've been eating a lot more meat for the protein." I just checked it.

[00:13:46]Sorry, my nose is doing weird stuff. I just checked my labs because I was working on the the CKD um post that I did and all of my labs are amazing. My LD I'm also on two statins. Well, one statin I had to double the dose because I had um diastolic heart failure in 2022. So, we're trying to keep my my good one really high and my bad one really low.

[00:14:16]And um yeah, so I don't know, Nancy. It might be more meat for protein. I don't know. Are you on any statins or no? Gwen says, "I try to track, but I'm so busy taking care of my hubby. It's hard." I'm sure, Gwen.

[00:14:34]I'm sure. Gwen, I really do want to see you sometime. I mean, we're not that far away from each other. We're only a couple hours away from each other, and it would be so much fun. Like, Blue Highway Pizza, right outside of Mkenopi, is like one of my favorite pizza places in the entire country. And I would love to come up there and be able to even if I just someday came and went and got blue blue highway pizza and brought it over to your house.

[00:15:55]Um, yeah. I Your LDL is doing good, but I'm on Crestor. Yeah, I don't remember what I'm on. I'm on something. I'm on Oh, a toast statin. And they they doubled it after I had the thing where they went in and looked at my my valves, my arteries and stuff in my heart. Gwen says, "Next fall, Barb. I spend the summer in Massachusetts. I live full-time in a class a motor home."

[00:16:35]Yeah. My LDL is good, too. So, I asked, "Why do I have to do a statin and then double the statin?"

[00:16:47]I never remember the one that's not the good one. They went down to 40 and right now it said 50, but I told them I didn't want to add any more statin to it. I thought that was plenty. I had enough going on. Nancy says, "My doctor said as long as my numbers are so good, we won't worry about the statins for now. Just keeping an eye on it." Good, good, good.

[00:17:18]So, you know, I know that people are going to be heading out and stuff soon or going to dinner, things like that. I really, really, really would like to know.

[00:19:18]When I was in Germany, the kids I was having kids and getting a divorce. When I was in Germany, they always say in the military that we were there for three years, that when you leave Germany, you either leave with a baby or a divorce, and I left with both. Um, so Amy was born in Germany, Megan was born or Tristan was born in Orlando, Megan in Tacoma, and Amy in Frankfurt. Um, but when we walked around, we had no car for a long time. It was still being shipped over.

[00:19:50]So, we walked a lot, but it was hard.

[00:19:53]They have no elevators. They have no unless you're up above five or six floors. They don't have elevators. We lived on the fifth floor in housing.

[00:20:08]I rarely went anywhere. I was so big and had all these kids. It was just like crazy.

[00:20:15]Um Gwen, I want to go to New Orleans again and walk the streets. Me, too. I went to New Orleans right after well nine months after Katrina when a lot of people were having babies. So I went to New Orleans because all the midwives had evacuated and left and had not come back yet. So I had a client bring me there for her and I was able to maneuver all kinds of other things that I could do with the women who didn't have a midwife um but were going to have a home birth.

[00:20:48]So, I spent uh two weeks in one of the the mobile homey things that they did for for people that didn't that lost their home and spent two weeks in that and walked around. But I would love to go back again because walking the music on the street was just so amazing, so wonderful.

[00:21:15]Um, and Rome would love it. Would love it. Greece, love it. I would love it.

[00:21:21]Never been. We were in Germany three years. We went over the over the border into Belgium for a day and that was it.

[00:21:30]Everything was like so France was like four hours away, England five.

We went to Snowqualami as we were going from Orlando to Tacoma. We went through snowwami and watched the and it was in winter but the snowwami falls just gorgeous. I have lots of pictures really beautiful. Italy is next year for Benise. Yay. Ari says I've been dreaming of running the New York City Marathon for 25 years. I finally get to do it this coming November as long as my body continues to cooperate.

[00:23:28]currently training and it's 10 miles re that's amazing. I cannot Megan told me I wasn't allowed to run anyway. So, but I was I have no desire to run or do marathons. I would like to do the Princess Marathon at Epcot in February, but I would walk, but you have to walk a certain pace and I couldn't do it two years ago when I would have been able to do it. So, I'm hoping that in I think June is when they come out with the the reservations. You have to call and like they're gone like that fast. But I'm hoping to be able to Kirsten and I Kirsten from um Disney Memories, Magic Memories.

[00:24:25]Um, caring for others. Miss Terry Lockan, we just returned from a 17-day road trip. Drove 3,500 miles. Had a great time, but is exhausting. Still recovering. Yeah.

Well, you know, the cruise for the downsized cruise is coming up June 4th, and I, like I said, I'm gonna go swimming, and I have not been swimming in so long. and was had to stay out of the sun. Still have to stay out of the sun. Um, I'll be swimming. They have a salarium, but as the day goes on, the sun it's not covered. So, the sun comes right through. So, what I'm going to do is swim in the morning is what I'll do.

[00:25:29]I wanted to go to China for a long time and I actually learned a teensy bit of of Mandarin, but now it's all gone. But I really, really, really want to go cruise around South America. Not cruise, but cruise with my feet. I would love to go walk around South America and Central America so bad. I love Mexico.

[00:25:57]Those are the when I was a midwife, those are the women that I took care of were the Mexican migrant and immigrant women. So that's where my Spanish comes from, which is hilarious because my family has Cuban Spanish. I didn't grow up speaking Spanish, so they all laugh at me. And you sound like a Mexican. I'm like, "Yeah, I know. I know. I know. But at least I can speak it."

I told Negan I wanted to do a back dive um on the cruise, but I went and found out that the pool is only four and a half feet, so there's no back diving to be done.

I love them, you know, and and what I like about it is that it came organically, but it turned out so wonderful that I I could interview, but I'd rather not interview people. I'd rather not go question question answer answer. I like interaction and talking and as if the camera is not even there and we're just chatting with each other and that's what it ends up being. We're looking at each other and talking with each other and sharing things. Now, one of the things I want to make sure that you see about Julio that was so different from most men.

[00:28:52]And that's so beautiful. That's so beautiful. Well, it's one of the coolest things about him is that he was able to express it because he was on the round mound of Zapbound on Charles's channel last week as well, week before.

[00:29:10]And uh shared feelings there, too. And he gets so teary eyed and he's so wonderful. He's such a gentle man. Such a gentle man.

Now, you know that Lorraine was an obese or an overweight runner and Mindy was an obese runner and is considered an overweight runner now even though she's in incredible shape and she did um triathlons and things like that as well. So, yeah. So, you're not the only one, but I can't wait to hear how it is now that you're 85 pounds lighter. I think that'll be great. I think that'll be great. Thank you, Denise. Now, I'm going to the OAC conference in July here in Orlando, and I know that there's all kinds of And I blessedly I won a scholarship, which is awesome. They have their own room, which is going to be awesome. That I plan on meeting with people, finding a a quiet space on a fifth floor or sixth floor out in a hall that where nobody is in the middle of the day and doing interviews. She's a a psychiatrist or psychologist who is one of the most amazing women in the world and I can't wait to spend time with her as well. She and I have emailed back and forth about Omparexia.

[00:32:41]I what's wonderful is that Darian was telling me how he's learning from my substack which is the metabolic midwife and my substack and what I write is so different from what most people write about um when it comes to GOP ones I pull deeply from my own experience absolutely but I also explore my midwifery part of has enabled me to read studies, translate studies, be able to put it into normal English, things like that with analogies and metaphors and and I like that a lot. So, I want you all to say I knew her when I knew her when hardly anyone was on her YouTube channel. Bernice says, "Oh, Barb, that scholarship sounds wonderful. You'll be able to bring back some great info." I will Jerry. It's more obesity focused versus being GLP1 focused. At least it was last year. Yeah. And that's that's pretty that's why I said the GLP-1 community will be in the minority. Um Nancy Germaine says, "Listening to Julio had me starting to realize just how deep my own emotional scars are.

[00:34:02]I now realize if one has 50, 100, 200, 300 pounds to lose, there are different levels of emotion to deal with.

[00:34:13]Absolutely. I explained to Julio how I did great for three years. It wasn't until I was diagnosed with the second cancer last May 27th that I freaked out and started and then realized a week and two weeks later in therapy that I was emotionally eating. I didn't even know I did that.

[00:34:37]Thank you. Um, and yeah, I I have written about my childhood as well and how difficult it was being fat. I never could run around the field. We were supposed to in PE and even in elementary school. Part of when you watch me when I go to do the park bench chats, I hang from a tree limb is because I couldn't even do it in elementary school and now I can do it and it's so much fun. So, everybody takes a picture of me hanging from a tree lamp. A nice big live oak.

Part of what I do is make sure that those who are still in the middle of their their disease of obesity are respected and cared for in the appropriate way with with absolute honoring who they are. We have to remember not everybody qualifies. Not everybody can afford it and not everybody wants to take the medications if they're if they are clinically if they have um obesity the disease of obesity. So everybody deserves to have respect and kindness and love shared with them no matter where they are whether they're in a restaurant being ushered to a booth like fools. I tell the manager, every time I go into a place and I see big people in booze, I go to the manager and I say, "Look here, when you have a big person over 200 pounds, please don't put them in a booth. It's just not right. It's not fair." And it's not. So, restaurants, hospitals, doctors, uh, reception areas, whatever, I work very hard to make sure that all of that is taken care of as well.

[00:37:51]Tristan's on Zetbound. And um he's a vegan. And he makes his own tempe.

[00:37:59]And he eats about a hund. Now, mind you, he's incredibly active. You have to remember this. Incredibly active. Like 8 to 10 hours of pickle ball a week. He rides his bike to and from work in Chicago in the winter, in the summer, whatever. He's just always, always, always running.

[00:38:20]He eats about 180 grams of vegan protein a day.

Michelle says, "Yeah, one of the things I hear a lot of people talking about is they feel an urge to go tell people who look like they have the disease of obesity, people that are bigger, people that look like them when they were when they were bigger themselves, that they have this urge to go tell them, do you know about Mjaro? Do you know about turside? Have you tried ompic?" And I have to remind everyone and reminding you all as well. They may be on them.

[00:41:00]And I went into her office. I said, "Excuse me, what is the deal here?" I said, "You cannot be an endocrinologist and have a scale that goes to 300. Come on now." Now she's got one that goes up to 600.

[00:41:16]Yeah, baby. Yeah.

[00:41:19]So, yeah. So, you have to open your mouth. I've talked to so many office managers. I'm can't even tell you how many office managers I've talked to to tell them, "Get big chairs. Get really firm, not stools, but you know, like a bench, but but with cushion on it, you know, not cushions because then we get stuck, but a cushion that goes up against the wall so that they have plenty of room.

[00:41:48]So, yeah, I open my mouth a lot.

[00:41:52]I'm sure they run when they see me coming.

Not here, but on the inside so that our walls kind of fall in. So their speculums usually they go like this, but these go like, see if I can do it like this. They go like this so that it holds the sides open as well.

[00:43:36]So, I want to be able to show women who are bigger how to do um how to get a papsmear without it hurting and without being embarrassed or ashamed and making sure that their provider has the right equipment to take care of them.

If they're watching their phone too much, they throw it onto the bed so they don't get near it. All kinds of little hacks that I found incredible. One I love was pretend you're a content creator. If you like have to clean the bathroom or the kitchen or you have to sweep or you have to go out to the garden or whatever, pretend you are a content creator and say and you're talking to your audience. Okay, now we're going to go and we're going to sweep the floor. You got to grab the broom and then you put your hands on it and then you sweep, sweep, sweep, and then you take it and you put it in the dustpan and then you throw it into the garbage. And I thought that was so clever.

[00:47:39]I thought that was such a good little thing to do to just pretend just play pretend and how much fun it is. There were several on there that were play pretends that were that were lots of fun. I've got it over here. Um also, uh this wouldn't work for me, but it worked for a lot of people was to watch cleaning videos or put cleaning videos on while you're cleaning at the same time. Now, I did that a little bit when I was decluttering my Kari days, my Marie Condo days. I did that a little bit, but yeah, I get too distracted, so I can't do that. Um, Lynn, are you gone already?

[00:50:14]Yeah, I thought talking like a content creator was brilliant because that I can do because I do it in my head. So, if I did it out loud and you can do it, you know, do it in your head and just oh, and just look at the camera and just, you know, print and look it all pretty while you're there washing the dishes.

[00:50:32]And you take the sponge and you go round and round on the plate. Round and round four times. Three, four. Yeah. And then la just all kinds of fun things. I have not done that. Tamara says, lots of crazy things. What else was I going to talk about? I had other stuff, but let's see here. What else was I going to do?

[00:50:58]Um, oh yeah, this is something Darian and I have talked about too.

[00:51:10]People have and and it's fine. I'm, you know, everybody's different, la.

[00:51:16]Um, people have weight goals, but your body does not have one care in the world what your weight goal is. It's gonna do what it's gonna do what it's gonna do. You can do everything everything that you're supposed to do, but your body has the last say. Your body is the one that has the last word about what you're going to end up weighing. I thought I was going to be done at 150, which is what I was after I had the gastric bypass for about a day and a half, but um I kept going down and I knew I wasn't going to waste away. I did get to 125 and go, "Oh, that's enough." And then when I was with Julio, I weighed 122. I wasn't feeling too good the day before, so I didn't eat a lot or drink a lot, so I was 122. Today, I'm 123. So, I'm going back up. I like between 125 and 131, but it's not like I do anything for it. And I was explaining to somebody else that you can do everything, but watching the scale and trying to explain why you gain three pounds in one day can make your mind crazy. It can make you just stress so much.

[00:52:41]And for some people, I guess it works.

[00:52:44]It would make me mad. Not mad, angry.

[00:52:47]Mad loca. I just I just can't fathom teasing apart every thread of what I've done. What have I eaten? What have I done? Did I walk enough? Did I eat enough? Did I eat too little? Did I drink enough? Did I get enough sleep?

[00:53:07]Did I, you know, did I eat enough protein? Did I eat too much protein? Oh, maybe I had too many carbs.

[00:53:14]If y'all do that, I I if it bothers you and it hurts your mind to do that, please stop. You don't need to do that.

[00:53:24]It's going to happen.

[00:53:26]And then the other thing I told Darien this week too and other people in Substack, when you look forward as you're lo losing weight, when you look forward, it goes so freaking slow.

[00:53:41]But when you're on the other side and you're looking back, it went fast. And I try and remind people, you went to when you went to school, how slow it was.

[00:53:53]so slow in school. So long till Easter break. So long till Christmas. So long to summer. And now my 50th anniversary 50th class reunion is in three years.

[00:54:10]I was just in high school. I swear I was just in high school and it's gone. And my kids, I was just nursing them.

[00:54:19]My kids who were wishing me happy Mother's Day, they were just nursing and now they're 40, 42, and 45.

[00:54:33]The time just goes like that.

[00:54:36]Um, the days are long, but the years are short. Absolutely. And we say that with mamas. The days are long, but the nights are short. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly.

I wanted to maintain weight and build muscle once I hit maintenance. Nope. I kept losing and I'm decreasing dosage and calories.

[00:55:17]I'm okay. But I think my body has its own goal.

[00:55:21]They do. And it doesn't care. You know, if we're 40, 50, 60 years old and we think we're going to get down to our high school weight.

[00:55:30]Why do you have a goal of what you wanted to be when you got married 30 years ago on the day of your wedding day?

[00:55:37]We have such different hormones and metabolism than we did when we were in high school or when we had kids or whatever, you know. Okay, I have to go to the bathroom. I'm muting. I'll be back in a minute.

[00:57:18]had to go downstairs. So now I'm coming up the stairs. Isn't it wild that I could move into a place that had stairs?

[00:57:25]I think that's absolutely crazy, but I can do it.

You're 510. 151 now was 270 14 months ago.

[00:59:03]And so he's lost 80 pounds on um Zetbound and doing really well. So I'm very happy for my kidlets that they're healthy now, too. It's so wonderful.

[00:59:15]Yeah. Eating and and doing that. And you know, I I've been watching a lot of people who are staying down on 2.5 and five for months. Five, seven, nine, 11 months.

[00:59:36]I'm not losing.

[00:59:38]I want to stay on a low dose. I'm not losing.

[00:59:44]They don't do it on camera. I'm just being being not so nice.

[00:59:52]How How can people think that that's a good thing?

[00:59:57]If money is the issue, I understand that. But if you're gonna if you're gonna stay on a lower dose and you're not losing, how can that not be obvious?

Years of doing all the right things and still gaining taught me otherwise. I I hope you all will speak out about these things because I what I see and this is what's so hard is I see people hurting over this. if they were like, you know, whatever, blah, blah, blah. It's not a problem if I go up or down or if I have this I have this goal and you know, but they're in pain in emotional pain about not being able to get where they want to go.

[01:04:10]Tamara, I think I've let go of the emotional part for the most part, but physical pain and mental exhaustion are real. Absolutely.

[01:04:17]Absolutely. And this is where um this is where I think we can support each other is with understanding and compassion. is that most of us have been there in that place of visualizing. That's why I wanted to talk about what you wanted to do, not where you wanted your weight to be. But I think for those of us who have been I want to weigh this, I want to wear this size. I want to wear the size that I wore when I graduated from high school or in my wedding dress or whatever.

[01:04:57]and then we catch on as we go longer.

[01:05:01]I think what we can do is offer compassion for those people that are earlier and still haven't gotten there yet. Not just don't do that. Don't do that. Just let them know, oh, I did that, too. I did that, too. And then I had to let it go.

[01:05:20]And just give them options of things that they can do instead.

[01:05:24]find those non-scale victories.

[01:06:01]And then my Birkenstocks. I have two pairs of Birkenstocks. I used to have about 25 pairs of Birkenstocks. No black, no brown. Every other color they had from orange to purple to lavender, fuchsia.

[01:06:16]Yeah. So, my Birkenstocks got too big, too. And now I had to get smaller ones.

[01:06:22]My white ones are smaller. I'm gonna take them on the cruise. Gonna take my white ones on the cruise.

[01:13:07]But what I do is I mark it down because if I don't mark down that I ate enough, then I have to go eat something. And so, yeah, each of us has a different way of doing it. That's for sure. Gwen says, "Got to go. need to do some laundry put away before hitting the road tomorrow.

[01:13:27]And dishes, talk to them. Do be a content creator while you're doing your laundry. And here I'm going to wash this in white with the whites and I'm going to put bleach in it.
