Weather forecasting involves analyzing temperature, humidity, and atmospheric conditions to predict severe weather events. High temperatures in the 90s combined with elevated humidity create uncomfortable conditions, while specific atmospheric patterns can lead to severe storms including hail, gusty winds, and tornadoes. Forecasters use risk levels (low, significant) and color-coded maps to communicate potential dangers to the public, helping communities prepare for extreme weather events.

First Warn Forecast: Chance for record heat Friday, severe storm threat over the weekendAdded:
Uh, weather not bad out there today in terms of we got record heat possibly on the way today and again on Monday, but we're really focusing in on the next few days for the chance of some stronger storms especially on Monday.
>> Six consecutive days of severe threats.
Last night we had one, didn't really pan out as we expected. It kind of fizzled as it moved here. Tonight we have a better chance. Okay, so let's take a look at what's going on and show you the risk level the next few days. So, it is low today, low tomorrow, low Sunday, and then it bumps up to significant Monday.
That's why it is now a first warn weather day and we have one last chance of severe weather on Tuesday. All right, so let's talk about today. Uh, we're going to have temperatures that are going to run up into the 90° frame. A lot of upper 80s to low 90s out there. If we get to that 92 here in Kansas City, that does set a new record. Now, we'll sprinkle in a little bit of humidity as I talked about. So, as we hit that 90 to 92 around 4:00 or 5:00, humidity level will be about 2° warmer than that. So, that's not that overly bearing oppressive humidity that we get maybe more so in July and August, but it's still new to us cuz it's been about 6 months since we've had any. Even at 10:00 tonight it's going to feel like 81°. Looking outside, Midwest Heating, Cooling, and Plumbing camera, got a little bit of cloud cover left over from last night's showers. It's bringing us some diffuse sunshine and we'll call it partly cloudy right now, 79. Remember the humidity yesterday at this time was 31%. Now it's up to 58. That's why the feels like temperature is about 2° warmer than the outside temperature. Now, if you're heading out this evening, maybe you want to get under a fan or this afternoon, maybe you want to find some shade. Look at this, we've got 86 at 1:00. We'll hit the 90s around 3:00, 4:00 and hold it till 5:00.
Remember 20% chance of some light showers, maybe a rogue thunderstorm up until about 8:00. And then we wait until 9:00, well, 10:00, 11:00. And here again, in case you're just joining us, this is a look at our severe chance. A one in the green, the lowest, two in the yellow, and then three up in Iowa where we expect the strongest storms. Here's the way it plays out. You can see a few showers. See, they're just green.
They're not into that yellow, orange, red, or even purple. So, not expecting those to be severe. They may get a little bit stronger as they head off to the east. is what we're watching. And look at the time frame. It's 8:00. So, we're going to see these well before they get here, me and Melissa. And then eventually Melissa will watch this as we come through the 10:00 show. And then look at this. Bearing down on us, those look like some pretty strong storms. We see a little purple in there. That's our highest level. So, as we head towards 1:00, you're going to hear rumbles for sure, may even get a little small hail, well, maybe even up to a quarter size, and some gusty winds. And then by tomorrow morning, we're still looking at a few leftover showers and thunderstorms, only about a 30% chance.
So, there we go for Friday night. We talked about that. Saturday, we watched the threat move to the north, and it stayed mainly up to the north. And then Sunday, we're on the low end once again.
So, here's the timing in a different way to look at it. From now all the way up to 4:00, dry. Low chance of showers from 4:00 to 8:00, and then a higher chance as we head from about 10:00 to midnight.
Now, for Saturday, some spotty rain in the mornings we talked about, and then dry all the way up to 8:00. And then after 8:00, we have a storm chance. All right, you have plans Sunday? Dry but windy just about the entire day. Sun starts to set at 8:00, and that's when we have our best chance of storms.
Here's a look at your Security Bank 7-day forecast. We talked about the warm temperatures today, but still pretty warm. 87 Saturday, 88 Sunday. Not much relief at night. Air conditioner will be running even in the overnight hours.
Monday, that's 70% chance and everything is on the table including very large hail, gusty winds, and tornadoes. And then with slight chance of showers Tuesday, 30%, and then finally back to some nice spring weather on Wednesday and Thursday. Bill. It's going to be a roller roller coaster ride. Thanks, Mike.
