Saab presented the first Gripen F, a new two-seat fighter jet made for the Brazilian Air Force. The super fighter called F-39F in Brazil marks a big step in Brazil's defense program and shows strong cooperation between Brazil and Sweden.
The Gripen F is the twin seat version of the modern Gripen E fighter.
It has two seats placed one behind the other, tandem.
The front seat is for the pilot and the back seat is for an instructor or another crew member.
This design helps new pilots learn to fly the advanced jet faster and safer.
The Gripen F is slightly longer than the single-seat [music] Gripen E, about 15.9 m, but keeps the same powerful engine, wings, and weapons.
Brazil is the [music] launch customer for the Gripen F.
This means Brazil helped design and develop the two-seat model from the beginning. Brazilian engineers and companies worked closely with Saab.
This partnership gives Brazil new skills in making advanced fighter jets.
In 2014, Brazil signed a big contract with Saab for 36 Gripen jets, 28 single-seat Gripen E and eight twin-seat Gripen F.
Some planes are built in Sweden while others are assembled in Brazil by Embraer.
The Gripen F keeps all the advanced technology of the Gripen E series, supersonic speed, modern radar and sensors, advanced avionics, weapons, easy to maintain, and good range.
Even with the extra seat, the plane has a maximum takeoff weight of 16,500 kg >> [music] >> and 10 hard points for weapons.
Brazil is now one of the few countries in Latin America that can work on modern supersonic fighter jets. The partnership with Saab is expected to last for many years with support until 2050.
