This blatant exploitation of cognitive decline reveals a disturbing moral vacuum where profit is prioritized over the dignity of the elderly. It serves as a stark warning that without robust consumer protections, the most vulnerable remain easy targets for predatory commercial interests.

Woman Shocked by What Used Car Dealer Did to Her MotherAdded:
So, this man right here is a used car dealer and he ripped off this 84 year old woman. There's a special place in hell for people like this. Check this video out.
>> Two local families say their elderly relatives were taken advantage of by a Bullet County car dealership. WDB's Addie Sheney went looking for answers and shows us the explosive confrontation with the owner.
>> The families say it all happened here at 44 AutoMart in Shephardd'sville. Oh, please move. I want this on camera.
>> Yeah, well, you can get it on camera, but let me tell you what you're going to get, too. You're going to get a lawsuit.
>> Outside the dealership, things got heated between Dana Herell and 44 AutoMart owner Rusty Mulvaney.
>> You are out of line.
>> No, no, you're out of line.
>> You wouldn't be talking to me like this right now if my husband was standing here. Trust me. What am I doing out of line? Stop.
>> What am I doing? Are you threatening me with your husband?
>> Do you see what I'm dealing with? To understand why, let's rewind to May 2nd.
Herell says her 84year-old mother, who suffers from cognitive decline affecting memory and decisionmaking, went to buy a car.
>> We didn't know she was going.
>> Herell says her mother traded in a paid off 2021 Honda CRV with 66,000 m for $10,000. Days later, the dealership listed that same SUV online for nearly 27,000. Meanwhile, her mother drove home in a 2020 Hyundai Kona costing roughly 20,000.
>> I found out that she went there on Saturday and called the dealership immediately to ask them if they, you know, to tell them not to do a deal with her because she has cognitive impairments, that my sisters and I have her power of attorney. Um, we have taken steps to try to protect her because she's not able to make good decisions on her own any longer. Um, I was basically told that that was too bad, that the deal was final.
>> On Monday, Herell went to the dealership hoping to get her mother's car back.
>> Rusty asked my mom if he she liked the car that she got, and she said yes. So, he immediately said that he's not going to give her Honda back to her and that our only option would be to renegotiate the deal.
>> In the end, the family says they settled on an even trade between the two vehicles. Owner Mulvaney says he paid her transfers and sales tax. He made it clear he wasn't going to give mom's Honda back to her.
>> In the middle of our interview, Mulaney unexpectedly walked over.
>> Did you re my mother for $10,000 or no?
In the original deal, in the original deal, did you not financially raped my mother for $10,000?
>> I wasn't even here.
>> But you're responsible. You're the owner. We did end up trading even because you gave us no other choice.
>> You made me that offer >> and I told you I didn't make you an offer.
>> I later spoke with Mulaney oneonone.
can't be in business 38 years and treat people bad.
>> He disputes Herell's version.
>> Some people don't want their parents making decisions.
>> I asked, >> "Well, she's 84 years old. She's got cognitive decline. Her daughter has power of attorney because of that."
>> Some people don't want their parents making decisions. I wonder why.
>> Wait a minute. She traded in a vehicle that was paid off that's worth over $20,000. is worth close to like >> close to $30,000.
>> Yeah.
>> He gave a $10,000 for it.
>> Yeah.
>> Right. And then he put on a a 2020 Hyundai Coda for what? How much?
>> It was uh for like another 20, but that's like >> But that car is worth like 14,000.
>> Yeah. A used car. Why would you treat someone's elderly mother that way? That is nuts.
>> Okay. So that woman was 84 years old.
You know what 84 years old looked like?
Joe Biden. Yeah.
>> Walked in there with a paid off vehicle.
>> Yeah.
>> I want to trade it in. Give me something new.
>> I'm thinking about get me a name. I like that great one over there. How much you give me for How much will you give it to me, Sunny?
And how what you going to give me? You How much you going to give my car? You give me $10,000? That sounds like a damn good deal. And you gonna get back over there. But how much? How much you give?
How much? 20. 20,000. Oh, man. I hit my lucky jackpot today.
You crazy as hell. That's just horrible.
THAT IS HOR, MAN. I HOPE YOU BURN IN HELL.
>> Can't be in business 38 years and treat people bad.
>> He disputes Herell's version.
>> Some people don't want their parents making decisions. I asked him about the difference between what the dealership paid for the Honda and what it later listed for online.
>> I'm not going to get into numbers.
>> And if the original deal, while legal, was fair.
>> As far as fair is concerned, that would be subjective.
>> Carell's family isn't the only one raising concerns.
>> I bought since 19 late60s. I bought 11 trucks in my life. Say I go through them pretty good cuz I was a brick layer.
Neil Bennett says a salesman told him the 2016 Chevy Silverado he wanted was 38K and that the price would be knocked down with his down payment and tradein for his 2018 Chevy Equinox until he started getting papers in the mail from banks saying his loan amount was 38,000.
What he paid already taken out and a 16% interest rate. Can you afford that?
>> You want to know the truth? No, I can't afford it. that we go over the numbers very well with our uh customers.
>> Do y'all trust that face?
>> Nobody in that right mind goes to a used car dealership like this on the side of the road. You'll go to like a reputable dealership.
>> Yeah, these are used car salesman, man.
>> They are horrible. You see that interest rate?
>> You believe that was done in this case?
>> I have to believe it's done. Bennett says he left without any copies of the contract. So, we asked how this happened. The dealership showed me the page he signed with the correct amount.
>> Right here on the contract, the to the amount financed is given.
>> But Bennett says he signed most of the paperwork on a mouse pad and couldn't see the computer screen. He says he didn't know the terms he agreed to until his daughter got part of the paperwork over a week later. They kept reverting back to this going, "Well, it's plain as can be, black and white, but I see black, blue, and green."
>> Yes, you use a different color ink.
Every dealer does to highlight what that uh response to their offer would be.
>> There are no specific federal laws regulating how dealerships interact with elderly customers.
>> Be your your family member's advocate, which is what we were trying to do.
>> Addie Sheney, WDB News. Oh, that sucks.
And I don't think they have a leg to stand on really. They just got ripped off because it's subjective. That's a horrible deal.
Someone that old coming into a dealership, you will want to treat them with a lot of care.
>> Yeah.
>> These are elderly. We supposed to protect our elderly.
>> Yeah. You're supposed to do your eyes and cross your tees.
>> Yeah. And look out for your elderly.
Just that's just make That's just being a a good human being.
>> Well, >> he just looking for a commission. He just looking for a sale. He just trying to make some money.
>> Business is probably doing bad. Ke said, "Man, I'm going to take advantage of this."
>> Yeah.
>> It's time to get paid. I'm I'm about to close my doors.
>> That's just You're just speculating, right?
>> I'm speculating.
>> But like you said, you can't treat people bad and stay in business for 38 years.
>> Yeah, you can do it all the time. Use car salesman.
>> Mhm. Yeah, I know. What a horrible story. Yeah. It's like why do you even want to try to condone something like this? This is like you don't have a heart. It's like you don't have a conscience. Well, that's why we have hell. And you going to have to ask for this when you when you when you die.
God's going to be waiting for you. So, no, you can't come in here. What you did today, I'm send your ass straight to hell. Everybody, don't forget how you can support us at official horse twins.com.
