This video presents a case study of a Wisconsin brewery owner who offered free beer if President Trump were assassinated, highlighting the tension between free speech protections and the responsibility to prevent dangerous rhetoric that could incite political violence. Wisconsin Rep. Tony Wied argues that while free speech is a fundamental right, there are limits when speech promotes or celebrates violence against political leaders, and such individuals should be held accountable and called out by the public.

Brewery promises ‘free beer day’ if President Trump is assassinated | Bianca Across the NationAdded:
Representative Tony Weed of Wisconsin.
He joins us now with the latest in this swirling controversy. Uh so, so talk to me about what happens with this brewery.
I mean, how could this be? Some say it's a matter of free speech. What say you?
>> Well, here we have an owner of a brewery and and there's a lot of great breweries in Wisconsin. We love our beer. But here you have somebody that is literally saying that if he gets if the president gets assassinated, he wants to have free beer day. Give away free beer. And he was upset that the shooter didn't hit his intended target, the president just here this weekend. It's it's reprehensible. It's disgusting language.
This is somebody that donates to the Democrat party uh throughout Wisconsin.
He's very involved setting up uh political action committees, packs, and and donating. Uh but but here's somebody that that should not be saying these types of things. He needs to be investigated. Uh look, I believe in free speech and and I also believe in my right to call him out and everyone should be calling him out for this disgusting behavior.
>> Right. And this happened after the attempted assassination at the White House correspondents dinner that Wisconsin Miniqua Brewing Company posted on Facebook. Well, we almost got free beer day. either a brother or sister in the resistance needs to work on their marksmanship or he faked another assassination to get a positive news cycle. We'll never know.
Regardless, we stand at the ready to pour free beer the day it happens. They have beer with names like uh Biden Beer, AOC, AIPA, and Bernie Brew. And the brewery is selling merchandise, referencing free beer day, which again, which would be the day if, god forbid, knock on wood, somebody kills the president. This is your state, Congressman Weed. What can be done? I mean, does this go beyond free speech or it's just this is free enterprise at the end of the day?
Well, >> I think we need to continue to call attention to it. That's what I'm doing.
Look, there's no place in our in our country for political violence and for this dangerous, disgusting rhetoric.
This person has been known to be saying things like this, calling and and wishing for the death of our president or or political leaders that he doesn't agree with. That's not Wisconsin values.
You know, I think we should be, you know, debating policies, but you don't attack people, and that's not what we do in in Wisconsin. So, here's a person that needs to be held accountable.
Again, people need to rise up and and you know, he's a business owner that which is always a good thing, but when you again when you call for the death of our president and and be willing to give people free beer, um it that's not okay.
>> Beyond the pale day 74, DHS still not funded. Can Congress get it done?
>> Well, you know, my short time here in Congress, it is a a slow, messy process, but really our job is to get the right legislation done. We have three really key um pieces that need to get done.
One, you know, both two to really protect our country and to keep us safe.
One with FISA, which really allows for um the administration and and our agencies to make sure that we don't have a terrorist attack, keep people safe.
And then we also have the Department of Homeland Security. Democrats continue to defund the Department of Homeland Security. That needs to get passed as well. But also, we have the farm bill.
The farm bill, it's been eight years, and we need to get certainty for our farmers. It's very good for the dairy industry. Wisconsin's a the dairy state and uh yeah, I do think that we're going to get these things done um and it'll get across finish line.
>> Thank you so much, Representative Tony Weed of Wisconsin >> information.
