Pixar's animated film Hoppers (2026) demonstrates the studio's continued commitment to environmental storytelling and social commentary, using the conflict between human development (Mayor Jerry's highway project) and animal habitat preservation to explore themes of environmental stewardship, interspecies cooperation, and the consequences of prioritizing human convenience over ecological balance. The film features voice acting by notable performers including Dave Franco as the insect king and Meryl Streep as the Insect Queen, while also serving as a posthumous release for Isiah Whitlock Jr. as the Bird King.

>> Frogs raining out the sky and goodness.
Carrie, where are your sh >> They'll hear you.
>> Dr. Sam, what's going on?
>> Oh, that was that was how your ass up.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, wait a minute. Here comes the reveal. Oh, the pupating is done.
Came out like the Joker.
>> Okay, okay, okay. I got it. I got >> You want to know how I got these wings?
Oh.
>> Oh, he going to become Jerry.
>> What did you guys do?
Well, once the council learned we had created the fake animals, they made us put the science to >> the opposite.
>> Fake humans.
>> GREETINGS.
>> HEY, MABEL, remember me? IS THAT >> YO, that maniacal laugh. Oh, weak and small.
>> I like this body better.
>> Don't you agree?
>> Come on.
>> Remember this. We've discovered that with a few adjustments, it can be used on humans, too.
If you have enough fake, loud trees in one place and put all the humans right in the middle.
>> The rally.
The sound is not just extremely annoying, it extremely squishes you.
>> They're going to blow everybody's eard drums.
>> You used us. There's just no coming back from that, right? Mammo King.
>> Dang. They got him all humbled, man. But you broke my heart, Fredo.
>> Yeah.
>> Oh, never against the family, Fredo.
>> Yeah. Yeah. So much for that trust being a leak.
>> He was my friend.
>> Friend. They're all just animals.
ANIMALS. AND NOW THEY'RE trying to squish US OR WHATEVER. AND YOU DON'T EVEN CARE. What is WRONG WITH YOU? YOU DID THIS. You riled up those animals.
NOW THEY'RE ALL ANGRY.
>> That's right. Listen to Nana.
>> Should have come back like Moana's grandma.
>> Did you know that you are just the absolute worst? I can't believe that I'm STUCK HERE WITH YOU. WHAT?
>> It's hard to be mad when you feel like you're part of something big.
>> What are we a part of?
>> Everything.
We're all in this together.
>> We can get out of this. All of this if we just work with each other.
>> How?
>> Stick your head in there.
>> WHAT? NO. NO. NO. NO. I'M NOT GETTING IN that thing.
Put on the helmet, Jerry. They're your voters. I'm a coward. The mayor stop straight up. I'm a coward.
>> What was it like when you >> uh careful, Jerry? Hey, watch out for the >> Jerry. You did it, >> Mabel. Mabel.
Look at his hair.
>> Give the insect king the chance to do the right thing.
>> What? Why?
>> Because everyone's good deep down.
>> Mabel, you know that's not true.
>> Yeah. He said, "How long?" He been human just today.
>> Just so we're clear, if this works, I'm still going to build the beltway.
>> And I'm still going to fight it. I've got an idea.
>> So do I.
>> Wow.
>> Really? They can't hear you, man.
>> Welcome to the stage.
Oh, this is going to be amazing.
>> He going to go crazy. He like, I don't want to go back to being a butterfly.
>> Are we having a good time or what?
>> That little crown.
>> What a day.
>> Look, Nana going to know that's not her baby.
>> Look what we did to this place. It once belonged to all kinds of animals. Not anymore.
>> WE LOVE YOU, JERRY.
WOW.
>> HUH? SHH.
>> Speaking of powerful, who here has squished an insect?
>> Me.
>> I just did.
>> Who else?
>> He said, "Yeah, get him."
>> Boy, it's a good thing an insect can't squish you because you kind of deserve it, right?
>> You don't have to do this. Titus, >> how how did you know my name?
>> Someone very wise once taught me, don't be a stranger. Pond rules. I'm sorry I killed your mom.
>> Oh, you think I care about that? She was old and weak.
>> Of course you care. She was your mom.
>> She about to be arrested as soon as she'd come off stage. Like >> so >> powerless.
>> Yeah.
>> I felt that way, too. And it made me do things I wish I hadn't. But it's not too late, Titus. We can still learn to live with each other.
>> Animal homes, human homes, >> they're all just one big place.
>> The crowd's like, "You know what? She's on to something."
>> Nice speech, >> Jeffrey Lannister.
>> Sucked.
>> Jeff Jeffrey Baraththeian.
>> Jerry, plan B.
>> Okay. Mission Impossible.
>> What?
>> What happened?
>> WHAT'S GOING ON?
>> SHUT UP AND LET ME FINISH THE JOB.
>> SORRY, insect king. I won't let YOU BACK IN.
>> COUNCIL, SEIZE THIS TREASONOUS MILK DRINKER.
>> EVERYONE, LISTEN TO ME. GET OUT OF HERE.
treasonous milk drinker.
>> I don't think that's the mayor.
>> That's enough, buddy. This town's not big enough for this.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. Oh, dang.
>> Dang. That body was blown up.
>> Over.
It's just begun. I will squish every last one of you. The mammals, the birds, the reptiles, the stupid.
>> No one will ever eat us again. THE WORLD WILL BE our hive.
>> Totally lost it, man.
>> Mhm. You see the rest of Oh, hell no.
It's a It's a damn Terminator.
Oh [ __ ] >> Mammal King, what are you going to do?
>> I'm going to help. What are you going to do?
>> How dare you ignore me? I'll burn the whole world down.
>> Somebody swat him.
>> Sex movie.
>> Yeah.
>> Wow.
>> Shut your ass up.
>> Try to save the Glenn.
>> You better get out of here. We need call. We need call station 42 and three >> rock.
>> Not grad.
>> Please. I can't lose it.
>> Oh no.
>> No.
I'm so sorry, George.
>> Boy, girl, you are a royal screw up. You didn't kill George.
>> Damn. You want to save the Glenn and then burnt that [ __ ] to the ground.
>> Fast and Furious style.
>> The bear just a Kira slide.
>> Yeah.
>> Emergency evacuation.
>> She riding the back of this bear like this. The Chronicles of Narnia.
>> They going to have to break the damn.
Let the water down there.
>> Yep.
I think you called it. Oh, yeah. Human homes, too.
Yeah.
>> Are you sure, George?
>> Yep. Found rules.
>> You're the hand. You're the paw.
>> Yeah.
>> A >> Wait a minute. That's adorable.
>> It's built too well.
>> We need help.
>> We need dynamite.
Hi, Diane.
That's a lot of damn water.
>> That's a lot of water.
All right, folks. Let's clean this place up. I want it looking like we were never here.
>> You heard him. Let's go.
>> That's beautiful to cinnamon cuz that [ __ ] would not happen in real life. He'd be like, "All right, well, let's build that bridge back up."
>> What are you going to do about the beltway?
>> Well, you're here. I'm here. Let's figure this out together.
Just move a little to the left.
>> I hope Mabel ain't graduating. God damn.
>> Huh?
>> They shut at her department.
>> Dr. Sam. Is that >> Mabel?
>> As you can see, the dean finally shut down hopping.
>> What about the research value?
>> Not worth the danger to humanity.
When a door closes, a thousand windows open.
>> What?
>> Focus on all my other ideas.
>> And I have a lot.
>> Oh, this is so exciting.
>> Isn't that the same talking collar that The dog and uphead?
>> Yes. You know how all these movies link together?
>> Yeah.
>> I'm looking for a job and I just want to work with people who care.
>> We could use someone who's passionate, >> annoyingly persistent.
>> Mhm.
Thank you, Dr. Sam.
>> And I'm sorry about the whole hopping thing.
>> I know you and the king were pretty close.
>> Apparently, Wall-E was in it. And we missed Wall-E. Apparently, >> you probably you probably would be surprised at how many Easter eggs we've missed by just watching the movie.
>> Ah, natural preserve.
>> Now, remember, her granny's house was just right behind that rock. So I wonder did the fire take out her granny's house or her house?
>> Uh probably.
>> Oh, George.
>> Beaver. Beaver.
>> All right, not bad. Daniel Chong, let me see if there's a postredit scene real quick.
Look at me. I'm the human.
>> Automobiles. Vroom vroom. I love traffic. BIG CARS. BIG TRAFFIC. MORE MORE TRAFFIC.
>> That's creepy as hell.
>> Oh, you got to keep your guard up, man.
Oh.
Oh, knocked off the list.
Okay, I get it. Dang, that was full of Easter eggs, wasn't it?

All right, hoppers. This was uh another uh another Pixar joint.
It definitely uh hit the target of you know what about the planet?
>> Mhm.
>> What are you doing? Are you doing your part to stop uh destroying our beautiful home and done it in a way that only Pixar can? Yeah. Not not bad. I thought I was looking at some of the the cast members. John Ham playing the mayor was absolutely perfect. Dave Yeah, was the insect king.
>> Really? And Mr. Mr. Mr. Anita Ambulance.
Yeah. Was the insect king and perfect >> absolutely perfect for >> him going maniacal. That was okay.
>> Okay.
>> Uh shout out shout out and rest in peace to the legendary Isaiah Woodlock who was the bird king.
>> Um yeah and of course uh the Merryill Streep is just productions. Yeah. She's she show up and everybody got to go home because they're suddenly unqualified.
>> Yeah.
>> Like you know what I'm saying? Like uh did you go method as the the butterfly?
Uh please like and you know and that's what's perfect too cuz Mel Street you know that there's like uh Miss Street uh can you wave your fee? No. But um we'll do it. We'll prorrate it and I'll only be in the in the movie for about a total of uh two minutes. So >> yeah, not not bad. I mean it Pixar I said earlier uh some people feel that Pixar has uh might might have missed a step, you know, might not be as legendary when it comes to their storytelling as they have in the past and in the chat was like, "No, I don't know about that." They're like, "No, Pixar Pixar never really missed a step."
I'm curious how you all uh feel in the in the comment section. But there was a run though. There was a run that Pixar had >> was that >> was just Yeah. I mean it was it was like Jordan's six rings, man. Like there was no misses for at least like seven, eight straight movies. They they just was just cranking them out the park. Um I'm just happy that, you know, the the the storytellers at Pixar, as you can see, still have like a a love for the game. Um, you know, you're gonna leave you're gonna leave a Pixar movie feeling some kind of way, feeling good, and this this didn't disappoint. Uh, anything stand out for you, man?
>> Um, so much. Uh, let me first address where people said that Pixar had fallen off.
>> Okay.
>> And I think that is a general sentiment amongst people.
>> Okay. However, it's one of those things again that's like me being a Star Wars fan, I guess. You know, another company under the dreaded House of Mouse.
The thing is, even as a Star Wars fan and a and a old school Star Wars fan, it's hard to remember that I am not necessarily the target demographic.
Those movies are made for kids. all three trilogies.
>> And it's hard. I think I heard someone say that we're mad as old school fans because the franchise didn't grow up with us.
>> That's interesting. Okay.
>> It stayed aimed at kids and you can either get on board a train or not. You know what I'm saying? And and unfortunately, many of us who are vintage um turned into old dogs on the porch barking.
>> Uh M >> Pixar movies, all of these movies, we are not the target demographic for not a single one of these movies.
>> As a matter of fact, since they've been making them, >> which the first one, Toy Story, made 95, >> at that point, I had already phased out of being the target demographic when they made the first Pixar movie, you know.
>> Okay. Now, the thing is, I happen to enjoy all of them, and I enjoyed a good number of these before I even had kids. Um, now that I have kids, >> you would say, I don't know, probably the last really enjoyable Pixar movie. I'm looking at the list now.
>> Okay.
>> Coco, maybe.
>> That one. Hey, you even you even say Pixar in my my eyes was the pollen >> cuz you got to think about uh 2015 Inside Out.
>> Mhm.
>> Later the same year, The Good Dinosaur, which did not hit for a lot of people.
>> I think that was their first big slip, >> I want to say.
>> Yeah, it it was I'm looking through the list. Yeah, it was >> that was that was probably their first.
Yeah.
>> Yeah. And I saw that. I agree. But the next year they came back with Finding Dory.
>> Yeah.
>> But then they had another slip of Cars 3.
>> Then next later that year they had Coco which was good.
Next year >> Incred Incredibles 2.
So people were accepting of this but it wasn't like Incredibles one. It was you know what I'm saying? It was good.
Then Toy Story 4. He's like, "Do we really need this?" And then after that, you got Onward, Soul, Luca, Turning Red, Lightyear, um, Elemental. Then they came back with a big one with Inside Out 2.
>> Inside Out 2 was fantastic.
>> And then Elio, and then this one, Hoppers. So you're talking about pretty much they had fallen off >> since 2019 all the way up to 2024. They had a fiveyear run of people not really feeling what they was doing.
>> Now I in the chat earlier we had somebody say that Turning Red was good.
My kids love Turning Red.
>> I enjoyed Turning Red. It was better than I thought it was going to be. I'll >> I have not seen it. Uh, the first time I tried to watch her with the kids, >> I fell asleep, >> but not because it was bad, just cuz I was tired. I just had a hell of a day >> and they wanted to put it on and I really didn't give a [ __ ] And so they watched it and I washed the back of my eyelids. Um >> um I never I didn't Lightyear I just, you know, was it a Buzz prequel? I didn't watch it. I heard Elemental was good.
>> Yeah.
>> Um Inside Out, too. I've actually never seen >> um really >> yeah I've never seen Inside Out too. I loved Inside Out but I never saw too.
>> Okay.
>> I know she became a teenager or something and you know >> I got teenagers and I was like I don't know if I want to this is not escapism for me to watch a movie about a teenager. I'd be cussing at the movie the whole damn time. So >> if you don't mind little girl [ __ ] your mouth watch your tone like you know.
And then I heard IO was good. I thought this was excellent. I really did. I like the story. I like that a lot of people in this story learned a lesson. It's not realistic, but it was a good movie.
And we need to see, I know we can't talk to damn animals, but we need to see that we really are a part of something bigger than us. Um, >> yeah, >> we only have one world and we are turning up. And a lot of people turn it up in the name of industry, in the name of money. You know, Jerry was willing to tear up this entire all of nature and all that [ __ ] for people to get to their destination 4 minutes faster.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
>> Really?
>> That's how it is, >> you know. And why we why we turn off the only world that we got, we keep forgetting that the billionaires, they are digging a hole in the side of a mountain or building, you know, we got this new thing to go to the moon. All of a sudden, they're going to build a base on the moon. They going to peace out this world. It's like, "Oh, well, we already sucked all the resources and everything out." And I mean, which really is the whole point of the movie Avatar, you know? We keep watching these things cuz it's entertainment to us.
It's not as much entertainment as you think.
>> We just think we watching something you can, you know, oh, it's a movie about eight 9 foot blue people and that [ __ ] is cute. No, that's what's happening right now. that the world was uninhabitable and the billionaires and whatever they went to another place to strip mine it unobtanium you know to drive out the natives and then bring all the humans there to live.
It's the same [ __ ] over and over cuz we let corporations and money rule us.
Well, it's frustrating because, you know, you hear all these stories of people looking elsewhere to live when we literally have the best possible place in the universe to live. And that's here. We just take care of it. It's it's pretty simple, you know. You don't you don't really have to go nowhere. It's it's already here. Just just take care of it and and the plan will take care of you.
>> You know, the funny thing, we would be like highly pissed off if some aliens showed up like, "We're going to take your planet." Like, no, this is our planet. Even though we really don't give a [ __ ] about it and we are destroying it each and every day, it's still ours, you know, like like you said, uh, great film. I'm happy to see Pixar is still still making projects. Uh, I think I'm going to be a 90 plus year old man trying to find my teeth and looking for my glasses watching Pixar films.
>> Yes, >> I grew up with it and and I I don't I don't see myself walking away from it no time soon. Um, shout out to uh, this makes you kind of want to reappreciate We Bear Bears. I kind of casually watched it with my son. It's one of those things. If you're a parent, you know, it's on and while you watching your kid eat cereal getting ready for school, you just kind of like halfway pay attention. But um, good. Hey, big up big up to uh, uh, what's their name?
Excuse me. Uh, Daniel Yeah, Daniel Chong.
>> Daniel Chong.
>> Big up to Daniel Chong for uh, for upgrading you. You in the big leagues now. Uh, so I expect more stories from you, Daniel. Uh, you have anything to close out with, for >> so upcoming, you know, cuz that's the one thing about animated projects, especially for Pixar to have a 5-year run of bad movies, even though up until that point, they'd had a 15-year run of dominance. Um, >> yeah.
>> And then, you know, they've made a few uh good movies here over the last couple years.
So they got and unfortunately, you know, in order to really get back on the the the train, get back this get get back.
>> Um they got Toy Story 5 coming out.
Uh >> keep milking that one.
>> Yeah, Toy Story 5. Um they got a movie coming out next year called Gateau.
I'm assuming it's about a cat, but and then in 2028, they're dropping Incredibles 3, which I didn't know that was a thing. So, I just >> that is announced.
>> Those Incredible runs are got big gaps.
It was like a 14-year gap between one and two. And now it's you know, you said and when >> Incredible 2 was 2018.
>> Yeah. But when's the new one? 20 >> 2028. A 10 year gap between >> another 10 year. Yeah.
>> Yeah. Wow. That's damn near two full generations or damn near three.
>> Yeah.
>> I don't know. I think uh I like this. I heard of another one coming out. I didn't know if it's Pixar.
It may be uh it it may be um >> DreamWorks.
>> Yeah, it may be uh DreamWorks. Um, yeah, I think uh damn it. I can't I can't remember. Forbidden Island for forgotten island something like that. Uh yeah, it is a DreamWorks Forgotten Island uh DreamWorks film which the trailer for that is out now and they said that's incredible which Dave Franklin's in that one too. Um, >> I don't know. I like these animated projects that let you kind of The one thing that's great about animated projects is it let you lower your defenses when things are in live action.
We can directly relate to that. Even when it's fantasy or whatever, but when it's animated, you kind of lower your defenses. And I think it's a good way to get a message across without being heavy-handed and to see the tapestry if you can make the parallels that okay these are the people these are this people this this is this um and a lot of the especially Pixar movies have that uh I like how Pixar movies are kind of interconnected like you said right there in the end we saw uh Wall-E we saw they were making the thing that uh was like the dog and up.
You know, a lot of things are are interconnected. This was a really good movie. I want to sit down and watch this with my kids. Um actually, I think they would enjoy this.
>> Yeah.
>> Um yeah, that I mean that's pretty much all I had to say. I think this was a this was a great watch and hopefully I can't wait to see what you guys say. put us up on in the chat, you know, uh, drop some comments on, you know, what did we what did you like about what we said, what did we completely get wrong, and what did we miss, which I'm I'm assuming is probably a lot. If you want to find me, you can find me on my Patreon and on YouTube at Crimson Commentary. Crimson with a K. Commentary with a K, but just one word.
>> Hey, listen then, don't worry if you missed that. There'll be a link in description. You can get to it super quick. Thank you so much. We will catch you on the next episode or next project.
All right, y'all. Take it easy. Peace.
