Here's Why You Don't Call 911 During a Routine Traffic StopAdded:
On this ride along, a woman tries a Jedi mind trick. An officer is not impressed.
In another finds some Pringles.
On September 29th in Orlando, officers stopped a car on John Young Parkway after their system showed the registered owner's license had been suspended. The Mercury had such dark window tint that they couldn't tell who was actually driving, but the Supreme Court ruled in 2020 that officers can assume it's the ARO. So they pulled the car over and went to investigate.
>> Hey, how you doing, ma'am?
>> I'm wonderful.
>> Officer Orlando Police Department. Uh, do you have your license registration?
>> What should you call me for?
>> While some officers might answer the woman's question in an effort to deescalate, it's perfectly normal not to, especially if the officer believes there's a strong chance it'll just lead to a debate about the infraction.
>> Um, I'm going to let you know before get your license.
>> Let me call 911. a lieutenant cuz I seen you behind me for a while.
>> Ma'am, this is not an emergency. I'm a police officer. I'm pulling you over.
>> I want to know why you picked me up cuz I've seen you.
>> Your license is going suspended.
>> No, no, no. My license are not suspended. That's a lie. I've been seeing you. I would only be to pick my ma'am.
>> You have your license with you?
>> Um, I don't know. I'm I can't I don't know nothing about >> Why are you calling 911?
>> Because I want somebody on the phone with me.
>> I am a police officer. You are safe.
This is a traffic stop.
>> Okay. Listen. Okay. I saw Okay. Okay.
Just listen to me. I'm on um I came to Orlando.
>> You need to hang up.
>> I don't have to hang up. I'm on the call.
>> This is not an emergency. I am a police officer.
>> I um I'm I can't I just can't I'm not from Orlando. I came to get my friend rob. I seen the officer behind me the whole me while he was pulling.
>> You're about to go to You're about to go to jail for misuse.
>> I'm on the phone. She's on the phone.
>> This is not the emergency Hernandez.
Okay.
>> His name is Hernandez.
>> You need to hang up. Okay. Hey, step out of the vehicle.
>> You're about to go to jail for misuse of 911.
>> Step out of the vehicle.
>> Okay.
>> I'm Okay. He said my license was suspended.
>> Why are you calling 911?
>> I call 911 because I don't trust y'all.
That's the reason why. And they y'all are stay on the phone, please. I only came to pick my friend girl up.
>> You don't understand why we're going through all these extra steps.
>> I I don't either. Thank you.
>> I'm on the phone still.
>> No, don't take my phone. He taking my phone, ma'am.
>> Right now, you're being detained.
>> Okay, now I am.
>> That's crazy. I'm only giving my friend a ride. Can I call 911? Because uh Don't turn me around. Don't tell me what you >> I'm right here.
>> Listen, listen, listen.
>> I'm on the phone with 911.
>> Knock it off.
>> You need to relax. I'm telling you.
>> I said I'm allowed to pull you over. I JUST TOLD YOU MY NAME.
MY LICENSE ARE NOT SUSPENDED.
>> Showing suspended.
>> MY LICENSE. We're trying to verify.
>> Let's verify that.
>> OKAY. VERIFY. BUT Y'ALL CANNOT BE MAD CUZ I CALLED 911. I only came way down here to get my friend to ride home.
>> So ma'am, listen to me real quick. I'm not the >> Hold on. Hold on. What's your first name? Sorry.
>> I'm on the phone, ma'am.
>> She's calling 911. It's not an emergency.
>> Yes, ma'am. He told me he pulled me over because my license suspended and that's a lie. I ONLY CAME WAY DOWN here to get MY FRIEND A RIDE HOME WAY BACK TO BRANDON.
>> He lying on me. My license ain't suspended.
>> She'd actually admit later to knowing her license was suspended.
>> She had knowledge that her license was was suspended.
>> She told you submit it.
>> Your license got suspended for a financial responsibility.
>> My son got out of the car accident on my red truck and he didn't he wasn't able to buy insurance. So they suspended my license and his license.
>> I drove a WHOLE HOUR AND 40 MINUTES TO GET MY BREAD. DON'T UNDERSTAND why we had to go through all this.
>> SHE ASKED ME A QUESTION and she called my name. She was pulling my she pulling my life. She told me just yo, you can put me in.
>> Hey, it's it's Dovva golf 28. Uh, you can hang up.
>> Hour and 40 minutes to get my stranded friend.
>> I drove an hour and 40 MINUTES TO GET A STRANDED FRIEND.
>> YEAH, you can. I'm very searchable.
>> I'm very I don't got nothing on me. I don't HAVE NO POCKET. I DROVE AN HOUR AND 40 MINUTES TO GET MY FRIEND.
>> Can we talk for 5 seconds?
>> But I need you to be down here.
>> I'm down here.
>> I'm not even gonna show you. Oh, stop right now. Relax. We're going to show you.
>> You need to calm down.
>> We ran your license. It says license not valid. Okay.
>> I don't know why.
>> That's why we're trying to tell you, >> but you started GETTING ALL UPY >> BECAUSE MY LICENSE shouldn't be suspended.
>> Okay. Okay. Drive.
>> Okay. You can take me wherever you want to go.
>> We don't have to even do this.
>> Okay, take me.
>> We were going to be nice. Be like, "Hey, listen. You might not even know you're listening. We were not being nice to us." 45 minutes.
>> Now you're going to jail for resistance.
How silly. How silly. This is the most silliest thing I've ever had to arrest someone for.
>> Okay.
>> Yeah.
>> Now we got to throw your car.
>> Okay. It's fine.
>> This is all This all COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.
>> I DON'T UNDERSTAND. Just a warning. Hey, listen. My license shouldn't be suspended.
>> Okay, there's no need to call 911. I told you multiple times to hang up.
>> You're driving on suspended license.
Okay, >> I understand.
>> Majority of the time, we're not going to take you to jail for a suspended license. We're either going to give you a summon or we're going to say, "Hey, listen. Go get this fixed." Okay. But when you start acting like that and start with you take it out. No, we're done talking because you don't want to listen to anything that I'm saying.
>> Ma'am, let's just go. Let's just go.
>> I tried to explain to you multiple times. I had Hey, listen. My body came rolling. I said hang up multiple times.
This is not an emergency. Okay. There is a crime for calling 911 when there is no emergency. I am a police. No. Ma'am, are you going to let me speak?
>> Gio, let's go. Come on. We're going to jail.
>> Gio, let's go.
>> Okay.
>> Do you want your Do you want your wallet with you?
>> Yes. Yes.
>> Okay. Hey, let me get her wallet. I got her phone.
After that was settled, an officer would inventory the car prior to it being towed. So, >> there's one HP laptop in the trunk, one ThinkPad laptop in the trunk, three half empty bottles of alcohol, and then miscellaneous clothing, paperwork, nothing else of value. Thank you, sir.
>> The officer charged her with misuse of 911 and resisting without violence. The county court system removed the case from its records, so it's likely the charges were dropped in their entirety.
Nevertheless, the woman's stranded friend remained stranded that day.
Thanks for watching. See you on the next ride along.
