All Hazards Severe Threat AGAIN Today…

[00:00:00]What a night that we had last night across the state of Michigan with several areas reporting damage from last night's storms. We've spoken with Detroit, Grand Rapids, and North Indiana offices of the weather service. They have multiple teams in the field this morning surveying that damage to determine if it's straight line winds or if it was tornatic. We'll have updates as we get information passed along, but our chances don't stop from last night.

[00:00:28]Today we're now into Wednesday, April 15th. There's more chances for severe weather here. Let's go ahead and talk about the forecast. Starting with the SPC outlook, we have a marginal risk that extends up to the Tri Cities. When I say Tri Cities, I mean Bay City, Sagena, Midland. Those are the Tri Cities over toward Letington and Shboan.

[00:00:49]Further south toward Grand Rapids, lancing over to Detroit, there is a slight risk level two in effect here from the SPC. Hazards today, hail is 5 to 14% probabilities. So low-end risk for hail. The main concern today is going to be damaging wind. It is a 15 to 29% chance. No hatching today. That's good news. But a good probability of wind across the 94 corridor, perhaps up to I96, which is near Lancing. There is a low-end risk today for a tornado. We have enough spin out there to warrant mention. It's a 2 to 4% chance. No hatching, though, which is really good news. So, all hazards are still possible, so take it seriously. Outside of today, we have severe risks in southeast Michigan for your Thursday.

[00:01:40]So, a smaller area, but still a risk nonetheless. also keeping a very close eye on Friday. Technically and officially, there's no risk in Michigan on Friday, but it's close. We'll have to watch it carefully. Otherwise, the light green color here in Michigan on Friday does denote that thunderstorms are still possible. The dark green, yellow, and orange colors are where the severe weather is expected to happen. So, Friday perhaps a break, but we're right back at it here on Saturday. The latest update from the SPC on day four does shift the slight risk over into southeast Michigan once again. So, we'll have to watch that very carefully, but potential risk again on Saturday. So, let's rewind and focus in on today's forecast.

[00:02:23]Temperatures today are going to be on the warmer side, but cooler overall than yesterday. High temps are going to surge into the low70s by about the 2 p.m. time frame here. I realize that I've cutting you guys off significantly. Give me one second. There we go. I got to flip all these uh views here to the Midwest. Look here so I can get these to share with you guys. Uh bear with me here. This is only going to take a second more. Uh I was not prepared. I'm tired. It's been a long stretch of three days here. Let's talk about the temperatures.

[00:02:55]The forecast today, low7s for a lot of South Michigan, upper 60s for central Michigan and low 60s up in northern lower unless you're by Meno or in the UP, you're going to be in the upper 40s and low 50s for your high temps today.

[00:03:10]So warm, but not as warm as what we were yesterday. Now, let's talk about the storm fuel as well as ingredients and future radar. First and foremost, as I move this and make this video, it's 11:00 in the morning here. We're going to watch how things evolve to our southwest here this afternoon. As early as that 1 pm time frame, we do have showers and storms developing across the Indiana Michigan border. That's going to push up our direction. Here's 2 p.m. 3 p.m. And by that 3 p.m. time frame, we have some nasty looking storms across southeast Michigan. Those will continue.

[00:03:44]We do have more storms popping up back to the west across the Lancing Grand Rapids region. These storms could pose a hail, wind, and a very low-end tornatic risk throughout the afternoon hours today. And then attention does turn later on tonight with more rainfall moving in. That's a little bit more uncertain how how that plays out. But I do think our severe risk is highest with this evening or sorry with this afternoon risk pushing in early 1 to 400 p.m. or so. We're going to watch the secondary round just in case we have additional showers and storms later on tonight. But again, I think that risk is much higher in the afternoon hours here in southern Michigan. Your ingredients for severe weather, we have a lot of storm fuel out there, 1 to 2,000 jewels.

[00:04:25]So, we are in a very uh juiced environment, so to speak, for the afternoon hours. But with that comes the wind shear as well. And we do have the supercell composite. We talk about this quite often. We look for values around that four or five to be concerned for severe weather. And we do have right around that, if not just pockets of a bit more. Definitely not as high end as what yesterday night was, but still enough to warrant mention that the environment today does support severe weather in the form of all hazards. And lastly, your tornatic parameters. You can see there we have a couple areas across southern Michigan getting a one or two on the parameter spaces. That is enough to warrant mention for a low-end risk for a tornado. So overall concern today for severe weather, 1 to about 5:00 p.m. in that window. Damaging wind primary concern, large hail secondary concern, and they cannot rule out a brief tornado with today's risk. That is your forecast update. Nice, short, and sweet.
