[00:04:35]The United States embassy has confirmed that the Nimttz class aircraft carrier USS Nimttz will make just naval vessels in the world will anchor at the port of Kingston, hosting expert exchanges and welcoming distinguished visitors, including government officials, members of the Jamaica Defense Force, and students from local universities who will observe carrier operations. s firsthand. [00:07:04]The Strong Fathers Foundation is on a mission to bring hope and meaningful intervention into the lives of children who are navigating loss and despair after losing their fathers to violence.

[00:07:34]Through every smile, through every tear, I still can feel his presence near.

[00:07:41]>> Reports show that nearly 91% of all murder victims and 88% of shooting victims in Jamaica are male. The result, too many children are fatherless. In response, the Strong Fathers Foundation has announced the Father's Day initiative. It's aimed at celebrating fatherhood and supporting the educational development of children, especially those who have lost their fathers to gun violence. Speaking at the foundation's first anniversary celebration on Friday, member of Parliament for West St. Andrew, Anthony Hilton, urged the community to support what he called the creation of a critical and good institution. And I stress institution because in the end a good idea can come like good music can come and in time disapp but a good institution will be sustained. Five children have already benefited from last year's inaugural staging of the foundation through cash vouchers and back to school supplies. While the focus is on strengthening education, Hilton also encouraged the foundation's involvement in providing children with mental and emotional support.

[00:09:05]>> Children who do not have the presence of strong fathers are in many instance, not all instance because you have some strong mother and strong families, but in many instances these children suffer a deficit in one way or the other. The foundation's co-founder and chief executive officer Rox Roy McClean says the support and partnership with veteran music producer King Jammy, local musicians, and the Saint Andrew South Police have been very instrumental in making the community focused events a success. Fathers and the foundation organizers are encouraged to continue on the path of creating a nation of strong men.

The Kingston and Saint Municipal Corporation says its cleaner Kingston initiative is making progress downtown. However, officials warned some vendor structures are now creating challenges for police enforcement efforts. Ake explains. City engineer at the Kingston and Saint Andrew Municipal Corporation, Xavier Shioans, says police are facing challenges with vendor star pollings stretching across the street. He explains the structure is blocking the public camera's view in the area, making it difficult for police to carry out law enforcement effectively. We have gotten some complaints also from the police as with regards to the top parlings which at times would have a poor visibility to the cameras in the area which which um which will affect their enforcement activities. So we are partnering with the police to ensure that the areas remain sterile and the roadway is free for for maneuverability and the vendors have their specific areas that they can fly the >> Mr. Chevans says the city will introduce measures to prevent vendors from returning to the streets after roadways have been cleared. Well, we have a terms of reference in place with our enforcement department to ensure that we have our period periodically enforcement activities to ensure that whenever we carry out these activities, we do the necessary followup and you would have seen other areas which would have borne fruit like out in Awood Street and other areas to ensure that we have a periodical follow up to prevent anything to go from going back to us. The KCMC under its Cleaner Kingston initiative is continuing efforts to rid the streets of downtown Kingston of garbage and other impediments. So far, Beckford Street, Haywood Street, and New Chapel Lane have been washed and cleaned as part of the ongoing operation. The cleanup drive is expected to continue each weekend with additional streets set to be addressed in the coming days. Akim Art for CVM News. Now, relief could soon be coming for Caribbean businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, after the Caribbean Development Bank and IDB Invest signed a new agreement aimed at making it easier for businesses to export goods across the region. In an exclusive interview with CVM News, CEO of IDB Invest also spoke about the organization's ongoing work to help Caribbean countries grow stronger economies. Here's a Moy Harriet with more.

[00:15:58]>> Small and medium-sized enterprises account for as much as 70 to 85% of businesses across the Caribbean and provide roughly half of all jobs in the region. Yet many still struggle to access the financing needed to trade internationally. It's why regional leaders now hope a new agreement between the Caribbean Development Bank and the private sector arm of the Interamerican Development Bank, IDB Group, IDB Invest, could help ease some of those challenges by making trade financing more accessible. James Scriven is CEO of IDB Invest. He says the agreement was signed on Wednesday. So together with the Caribbean Development Bank and ourselves, we've got a program to be able to helpmemes, medium-siz enterprises to be able to export within the continent and outside of the continent, and this trade facilitation program will allow them to do that.

[00:16:55]>> Mr. Scriven is in Barbados for the IDB Invest Sustainability Week alongside some 800 business leaders from 46 different countries. Part of the mission, he says, is to help businesses do more than just turn a profit, but also help Caribbean countries build stronger, more resilient economies, especially as many of them continue to recover from major economic losses in recent years.

[00:17:19]>> When it comes to the Caribbean, there are two very big areas in which we work in. One, renewable energy. The benefits that the Caribbean has is access to solar, to sun, and access to wind. So a lot of the work that we do is working with companies to be able to generate their own energy with using solar panels and wind farms.

[00:17:44]>> The other area he says has to do with adaptation.

[00:17:48]As you know, the Caribbean is is unfortunately a very vulnerable sub region in our continent. Uh subject to acts of nature, hurricanes, droughts and many acts that could affect businesses could affect physical infrastructure. So a lot of the business that we do is making those physical structures more resilient to effects of climate. Now 2025 was a record year for IDB Invest with the institution reporting more than 13 billion US in financing and investments across Latin America and the Caribbean this year. Mr. Scriven says the goal is not just to surpass those figures but to ensure the investments translate into real impact for people in the region. So access to financial services. We lend to institutions to lend to MSNmemes, small and medium-siz enterprise. We talk about how many ports we built. We talk about how many roads we built and how many kilometers. So everything we do targets indicators of development. And we've got a a special tool that we call Delta that is a development effectiveness tool that measures every work we do. access to beds when it comes to health and education, access to teachers. So all these indicators are particularly a focus of developmental impact that we do.

[00:19:29]Hundreds of Cuban residents and Argentine supporters marched through central Buenos Iris in a show of solidarity with Cuba, condemning US sanctions and the decadesl long blockade on the Caribbean nation. Protesters carried Cuban flags and banners denouncing what they called economic pressure and imperialism while demanding dialogue and peaceful relations.

[00:19:53]In Guyana, the Ministry of Education has launched an emergency fasttracked investigation after a highly disturbing video surfaced on social media depicting what appears to be physical and psychological abuse perpetrated against vulnerable students at the David Rose special education needs school in Georgetown.

On Wednesday, the Wii Invest in Nationhood Green Party shared video on its Facebook page raising concerns over alleged abuse of children with special education needs at the David Rose special education needs school. when on its social media platform called on the ministry to immediately investigate the disturbing incident. Hours later, Education Minister Sonia Parag in a statement said she was deeply disturbed and hurt by the video which appears to show acts of abuse being perpetrated against the students of the David Rose special education needs school. Karak said no child should ever be subjected to such treatment particularly in a school environment entrusted with their care, development and protection.

[00:21:20]The latest from the BBC. We've seen huge celebrations all across the evenings.

[00:21:26]Now, there were several flash points in different areas in the city, especially around the Agdri in the Shan Avenue where people were clashing with police quite heavily. Now, obviously this number of arrests also took place, many arrests also took place near the park de France which is in the southwestern part of town. Uh many of these arrests were uh controlled by the police. That's according to the words of the interior minister Lauren Nunes who had a presser about an hour or so ago saying that overall the situation was very much under control by the police officers. A dozen dozens of them have police officers have been injured in the in the clashes. But personally I would say that on my end I've seen very huge celebrations and people very very happy to see that win uh the team win a backto-back title here and making history. And I mean just look at the numbers and the turnout here. We are right there. So, the Eiffel Tower and the Shonda Mouse is just there. We're on the side of it, which for now, all the fans have been waiting and I've been waiting for a good hour or so now. And this is going all the way down there.

[00:22:31]We're expecting around 100,000 people today to celebrate the players that would arrive in the afternoon. They're currently flying uh from from Budapest back to Paris and they will be celebrating with their players. They wanted a change from last year when they paraded across the shel and then now they'll be in front of the Eiffel Tower which obviously is the symbol and on every single shirt that we seeing here and u so the turnout has been absolutely immense. People have been gathering here for a few hours and telling me simply that they are so excited about today.
