Six Chinese sailors who survived the Titanic disaster were deliberately erased from historical memory for over a century due to racism and the Chinese Exclusion Act; they were legitimate third-class passengers who paid 56 pounds, 9 shillings, and 11 pence for their passage, yet were placed under guard upon arrival in New York and deported to Cuba without inquiry, with no memorials or recognition until the 2021 documentary 'The Six' finally told their story.

Lee Bing: Titanic Passenger Profile #Titanic #open-to #History #3rdclassAdded:
Welcome to my Titanic passenger profile series. Six men survived the Titanic and history erased every one of them because they were Chinese. Lee Bing, 32 years old, born in Hong Kong, a married seaman, his wife too being waiting for him at home. He was one of eight Chinese sailors aboard the most famous ship in history. They were not stowaways. They were fair paying passengers, third class. All eight shared one ticket number 1601, 56 pounds, 9 shillings, 11 pence. Boarded at Southampton, April 10th. They were sailing to New York to rejoin their ship, the Donald Lines Anetta. Then, April 14th, the iceberg.
Perhaps because they were sailors, men who understood ships, six of the eight found their way to lifeboats. Lee Bing survived. Two of his companions did not.
The newspapers called them Celestials.
One headline read, "Five Celestials among rescued. How they got there a mystery." When the Carpathia docked in New York, the six survivors were placed under guard by US immigration officers and escorted directly onto the Anetta bound for Cuba. No inquiry invited them.
No memorial mentioned them. For over a century, no films, no statues, no tributes. Then in 2021, a documentary called The Six finally told their story.
Lee Bing survived the Titanic. History just refused to remember him. Thanks for watching. Subscribe to my Titanic passenger profile series. Stay tuned for my next video.
