Better chances of showers and storms Wednesday in New MexicoAñadido:
All right, we've got a pretty complicated forecast day ahead of us for the land of enchantment. The western half mainly just dealing with breezy conditions, dry conditions, warm conditions, where the eastern half of the state looks to be a little bit more on the slightly more active side. We already have some possible spotty showers out there forming across southeastern and south-central New Mexico. I think it's more of that misty type of showers versus more of the actual accumulating showers. But, a big part of what could happen through the day today is all going to be dependent on how much moisture we have. Right now, things aren't looking to be too too bad, and in fact, if we look at that forecast relative humidity, and this is more of that measure of the atmosphere in terms of moisture, right? We still have some pretty decent humidity out there across say, again, east-central, southeastern New Mexico, spreading further up to the north as we get later on in the day, whereas I think for us here on the western half of the state, we're likely going to be way, way, way too dry for anything to try to form here. So, let's walk you through what this could potentially look like through your day today. Again, we've already got a couple of spotty showers out there. We could continue to see that through about say 9:00, 10:00, and then try to maybe get one, maybe two thunderstorms trying to fire off in say northeastern Lea County, moving through Roosevelt County through your early afternoon time frame, quietening things down. And this will help to bring in another round of potential showers and storms moving through say south-central, southeastern New Mexico, couple spotty showers up to the north and eastern side of the state are also possible through the day today.
So, a little less aggressive than what we were looking at yesterday. However, there's enough energy in the atmosphere, especially if you're on east-central, southeastern New Mexico, where one of these may try to pop off and be a little bit more strong to severe. So, brief downpours, lightning, some human hail accumulation, and strong gusty winds are all on the table today if you're in that green area. This timeline will be from 2:00 to 9:00 this evening. In terms of how much rainfall, I think it's roughly going to be about that hundredth to a tenth of an inch. If you can get more of that thunderstorm activity, maybe upwards to a quarter of an inch. Here in the metro, I think we're likely just to stay breezy. Here's a little quick look at just some trees that I zoomed in on.
It's quite a bit breezy out there already. We've got wind gusts up to the say 30 mph sustained winds, 25 mph, and we're likely going to stay within that breezy to locally windy conditions through the day today, especially for the areas on the western half of the state. Right? I know not everyone's happy about that. We want the rain, not the winds, but unfortunately, this is what we've got to deal with through the day today. Otherwise, it's also going to be a fairly warm day if you're on the western half of the state. Highs getting into the 70s and 80s, but a mix of 60s and 70s and 80s for the eastern side.
So, a little bit better for our friends out there where if you are tired of seeing the warmer conditions, you get a day break in some areas. Now, Roswell stays a little bit warmer heading into the next 7 days after today.
Most of your weekend for Memorial Day weekend looks to be okay. But, for areas such as Las Vegas, a little bit more active, but we see temperatures warming up slightly as well.
Now, through the weekend for your Memorial Day weekend, right, some spots again have that rain chance on the board. It does not look to be an all-day type of rain event. So, that's the good news. If you have weekend plans to celebrate Memorial Day weekend and it's outdoors, if you have those rain chances on the board, just make sure you keep an eye on the radar. If you have anything moving through your region, make sure you have some indoor plans as a backup.
