How to Make Explicit Requests and Actually Get Your Needs Met | Nearly Normal PodcastHinzugefügt:
way to kind of circumvent this and to get this a little bit better is instead of treating your relationship like it's transactional pieces, Mhm. work on explicit requests. So, if we are in a relationship and I feel like I did a lot today and I'm about to go do the laundry, what I could say to Kate was, "Hey, I'm about to go do the laundry.
Could you empty the dishwasher?" Mhm.
Explicit request, right? I'm not going to go do the laundry and then be stewing about how she left the kitchen and the dishwasher just is still not done. I'm just going to ask the request. If she says, "Yeah, I got that. Cool, I'll do it." and she does it, we're great. I got exactly what I needed from that. If she says, "No, I'm not doing that." then we can work on that issue, right? That is a problem.
>> [clears throat] >> I do have an issue with that. We are going to have to talk about that. That's fine, but they had explicit requests versus the transactions.
