The chacu (V-shaped funnel traps) are ancient collective hunting devices used by Andean peoples for thousands of years to capture vicuñas and other fast animals, with evidence dating back to approximately 6,000 BP; these sophisticated traps, typically placed along slopes and waterways to create natural bottlenecks, were traditionally associated with Inca royal hunts but have deep historical roots across northern Chile, southwestern Bolivia, and southern Peru, representing one of the longest continuously used hunting technologies in human history.
