Cultural Diversity in the Philippines: A Case Study of the T'boli Peoples

The T'boli peoples, an indigenous group in the southern Philippines highlands of Mindanao, maintain a rich cultural heritage characterized by intricate weaving traditions using traditional looms and music featuring unique instruments like the Higa long, which serve both artistic and economic purposes while playing important roles in rituals and ceremonies; however, their cultural traditions face significant challenges from development projects such as mining and logging that threaten their ancestral lands and natural resources, as well as younger generations increasingly adopting modern lifestyles over traditional practices.
