This video offers a vital lesson in risk management by teaching homeowners that knowing when to call a professional is the ultimate DIY skill. It wisely prioritizes safety and structural reality over the dangerous urge to handle everything yourself.

Taking Down Dangerous Hollow TreesAdded:
Well guys, I'm back to mess things up again. Today I'm moving Eeveey's swing set. Even though we like the swing set here and Eevee uses it all the time. The family loves it. It's in the way. I want to relocate it to a new location. So, I'm going to take you guys along. I know this might not seem like very exciting news, but we have to tell the story because it leads to bigger and better things. So, we're just going to unanch anchor it from the ground and try to move it in one piece. Get it over to its new location, which I think is going to be better. It's going to be in the woods.
More shade. You see how she's in the sun right now? Let's get it over in the woods and hopefully in one piece.
So, we still have to unscrew the anchors out of the ground, but let's get it out of the way first. The goal is to use the excavator and see if we can move it.
Huh?
Let me look. Well, guys, there it is.
Swing set was moved successfully.
Surprisingly, it went really smooth. And now we have room to tackle this big tree right here. Guys, we talked about this before. This is a large hollow tree on our property and we have to remove it.
You know, I really hate to see this tree go. We all love it. We call it Wade's tree because a duck once laid eggs in here. It's completely hollow and on the verge of breaking. If we had one good storm come through, it could crack. And because of the sheer size of it, it's just so massive. And because it's hollow, it's dangerous. I can't cut it down and it's kind of a risky tree, but I want to see how much strength it has. So, what I'm going to do is bring the excavator over.
I'm gonna just nudge the tree and see if there's any movement in it. It probably will be like solid like a rock. It won't move, but there's a chance that there is weakness in it. So, I just want to see and then we're going to take it from there.
anything. Well, guys, as I suspected, I was hopeful, but I kind of expected this, that it didn't budge. We didn't get any movement out of it. So, that means we have to move on to plan B.
So, here's the plan. I know that these trees are huge and a little bit dangerous to cut down. They're hollow.
They're unpredictable. So this time we're going to be calling in the pros to handle these two trees and we're going to get them done right so that we don't have to put ourselves at risk. So let's get ready to have these trees taken down.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
Hey, hey, hey.
Hello.
Hey. Hey.
Hey, hey, hey.
Heat. Heat.
Uhoh.
Heat.
Well, guys, the work is done. And check out the new view. It has opened up so much out here. And that might not be a good thing. That was more shade gone out of our yard. Might be better for the gardens. So, let's go take a look at the stumps. I can't wait to show you guys how crazy this is. So, this is what's left of the stump of the hollow tree.
And wow.
You guys knew it was hollow, so that's not a surprise. But there it is. I'm glad they took it down. And I'll tell you, even when they took it down, it didn't fall exactly where they wanted.
Nothing was damaged. The fall was good, but it was unpredictable. And that's why I didn't want to touch it. I wasn't sure if I started cutting that thing what it would do. And I didn't know how weak it was. And I just I'm just happy. I'm happy that we paid to have it done. They did such a good job. They cleaned up everything. Look how clean they left it.
That's where the other tree was right there.
And uh I asked them to pile the debris back there. That's all the tree debris.
Uh we're going to let it dry out. Right now the state is in severe drought and we aren't able to burn. It's just not safe to burn right now. We've had forest fires. It's just too risky. So we have to let that sit. The wood can dry. And uh once we're into the rainy season and things are a little safer, we can start some fires, start burning down the brush. And in person, the yard feels so much more open with these trees gone.
It's amazing how different things can feel just taking down a couple of trees.
That stump was no surprise, but I can't wait to show you the other tree, the big tall one they took down. So, check this out. This one is hollow, too. I knew the tree had a little bit of rot in it.
Wasn't the best looking, but I was not expecting it to be this hollow.
I haven't gotten a chance to look at the trunks. They're kind of piled up back there and I haven't even looked at it yet. Once we start uncovering that, I'm going to see how far that hollow goes through the trunk. I'm really interested to see how how hollow that other tree was. I just wanted to stay out of their way while they were working so that they didn't have to worry about us. So, I'll look at that later. But, this is good.
Good progress. Another big update for our property and more progress this year. I said it's going to be a big year. We're getting a lot done. Um it was sad to see them go, but I think you guys will agree that they both should have gone because they're hollow. They didn't look good and they were a hazard. And now we have more space back here for more projects. And we do have a project planned. I don't know how soon I can get to it, but we're going to start working on it as soon as Well, hopefully we get these stumps out. I'm going to be working on that next. So, you'll see me I'll take you along and I'll see how hard it is to get dig out these massive stumps with my mini excavator. Uh I know the one by the house that we did a little while back running our water lines was so hard. We we broke a hydraulic line on the excavator and it took us days I think to get that stump out of the ground. But we were working next to the next to the house. And I think this one is easier just because we can get all the way around it and work a little easier without worrying about hitting the foundation or the wall of the house. So, I'm looking forward to it. So, I guess that's all we have for now. Um, but I will leave you with one little update, and that is EV's wall of morning glories.
The tree people were here, and they just loved it. They just thought it was so cool and they just kept looking at it and asking about it and commenting about it and they just thought it was so cool.
So, I'm going to show you this. This is actually kind of an old clip that we that I that we filmed and we just didn't fit it in anywhere. I actually tried showing you guys this a couple times now, but it just never works out. So, this is a good spot to share it. That is Eevee's wall of morning glories.
So, I'll insert that clip so you guys can see this cool little project she did. And that's all we have for now. So, thanks for watching and until next time, take care.
Eevee, my wife, has planted a morning glory garden on the side of the kennel using the fences as a trellis.
Obviously, it's looking so cool that I wanted to share it with you guys and kind of show off her work. Now, it was supposed to be all the way around the kennel, but we're having some trouble on the sides. It's been a bit of a drought.
I think that's part of the problem is super dry this year. But also, uh, this side gets the most sun and what a difference it's making. We do have some small ones along the sides and back that are starting to grow, but maybe maybe they'll take off later on. We'll see. But so far so good on this.
Panda is inside this one.
