YouTube’s automated labeling is a performative gesture of transparency that prioritizes corporate liability over actual creative freedom. It effectively turns the platform into a digital gatekeeper, categorizing reality while pretending the algorithm remains neutral.

YouTube Can Now Detect AI Videos AutomaticallyAdded:
If you use AI to create your videos on YouTube, then this video is actually for you. YouTube just changed the rules for AI-generated content, and most creators have not noticed this yet. So, YouTube can now tell when your videos are made with AI, even if you do not turn the feature on. So, when you're trying to upload a video, there's this option that says you should identify if this video is made with AI. A lot of AI creators do not turn on this feature. So, YouTube is telling us right now right now that they will start exposing AI-generated content automatically on their own, even if you, who is the creator, do not turn this feature on. So, on the 27th of May 2026, which was yesterday, YouTube released a new update regarding AI-generated content on the platform.
And honestly, a lot of creators still don't know what is happening. So, let me break it down to you in this video. So, before now, creators are expected to manually tell YouTube if their content are AI-generated or not. But now, YouTube says their own system will detect AI-generated content automatically. Now, this is not new because this is already happening on Facebook and also on TikTok. If you upload a picture on Facebook, even if this picture is not AI-generated, but maybe you use AI to tweak something in that particular picture, the platform will automatically label this content as AI-generated. For example, this is my wedding picture, right? This picture is not AI-generated. But when my photographer first sent this image to me, I noticed this is one of my eye was closed, and I didn't like it because I loved the picture. So, I used AI to open the eye. And immediately I posted this picture on TikTok, TikTok labeled it AI-generated content. So, people might be thinking, "Oh, your wedding pictures are AI-generated." But no, they are not.
They were taken by a real human. Now, this is another influencer on TikTok who just started an auto car business. So, he uploaded pictures celebrating his, you know, his big business, but this picture was flagged AI generated. Like, it was labeled AI generated. And a lot of people started doubting if he used AI to announce that, "Oh, he now has a car business." Meanwhile, he actually has a car business. But, I want to believe that one of the pictures on the photo slide is AI generated. And I think it is this particular picture because this is like the logo of his business. So, maybe he used AI to generate this particular logo. So, because he included it in his in his photo slide, the platform labeled it as AI generated. So, that is what YouTube is trying to tell us that they they will start automatically adding labels to your videos as long as there is an atom of AI, even if not everything was made with AI. They would label it AI generated. Just like how I am an AI content creator who posts tutorials based on some platforms that I use, maybe screenshots or images on my platform showing you that, "Okay, I converted this image from this to this using AI." They might not label my video as AI generated. Even if the entire video is not AI generated. I don't know if this sinks. This information is coming from YouTube themselves. You can listen to him.
>> Our goal here is context at a glance. If it looks real but was made with AI, viewers will know immediately. We're also making disclosure a bit more seamless. While you're still required to manually disclose realistic AI use, starting this May, YouTube is rolling out internal signals to help. If YouTube systems detect significant photorealistic AI and it hasn't been disclosed, we'll now apply that label automatically. If you think that the system has gotten it wrong, don't worry.
Creators are still in control. As this technology continues to improve, if a label is applied incorrectly, you can jump into studio and update the status yourself. The only exceptions where the label does stay permanent are if you used YouTube's own AI tools like VO or Dream Screen or if the file contains metadata proving it's fully generative.
Most importantly, for creators, these labels alone do not affect how our >> But, YouTube is telling us not to panic.
You have nothing to worry about. It just simply means that if you use realistic AI images, realistic AI voices on YouTube, and you do not label it as AI generated, they will do the labeling for you. So, whoever is watching your video will know that this particular video or this image they are seeing is AI generated. So, according to YouTube official blog post, they are making AI labels more visible. Instead of hiding the labels inside the description, viewers will now see it directly under your videos.
If it is a long-form video, they've said that the AI label will be >> For long-form videos, the label is moving from the description to a prominent spot just below the player.
>> Well, if it is a short-form video, like you upload a short on YouTube, the label will be >> the player. And for shorts, it'll be an overlay right on the video itself.
>> Now, you do not need to panic because YouTube has clearly said that this does not affect your video recommendation suggestions. Your reach is not automatically dead. Your videos will still be recommended to people. Your account is not automatically shadowbanned. You will still get the number of views that you get normally.
And using AI tools on the platform is not illegal. You can always use AI tools on the platform. Also, this does This does not affect your channel monetization. You can still keep your monetization. It does not affect anything. The only thing here is that your content will be labeled as AI generated. That's all. Hi my loves, my name is Blessing Anaehie Holyfield.
