Arrested for Telling Trespasser to “Get the F off” His Porch

[00:00:00]Michael Mendenhal was arrested and charged with a felony for telling a trespasser to get the F off his porch.

[00:00:06]The trespasser lied to law enforcement about the interaction. That lie was then passed from one officer to a detective and then to a judge to get a warrant.

[00:00:28]a warrant they can use to batter down someone's door, turn their home upside down, and arrest them. When police use dodgy information to get a warrant, people who've done nothing wrong pay a steep price. The Fourth Amendment says that warrant should only be issued upon oath or affirmation. That should mean that a warrant is supported by firstirhand evidence from the person swearing the oath, but the Supreme Court made this requirement meaningless decades ago. Now, IG is asking the court to take up Michael's case. The founders understood how important it is that warrants are based on accurate information when they wrote the Fourth Amendment. But the Supreme Court effectively erased words from the Constitution. It's time for the courts to restore the Constitution's original meaning.
