Temperatures on the rise

[00:00:07]Afternoon high temperatures reaching up toward the mid to low 70s. Our coolest afternoon in nearly a month. Higher pressure camped out to our west doing its job keeping any organized weather system away from us at least for the time being. And yes, while we are seeing a few light clouds over the last several hours, still it's about as perfect as you can get this time of the year.

[00:00:27]Afternoon high temperatures reaching those mid to low 70s. Right now, some of us in the upper 60s. It's 69 for Eau Claire, 70 out in Mineral Point. Right around 73 Baraboo, 72° your current temperature in Janesville. Looking out from our tower camera, traffic moving smoothly. That fair weather cloud cover downtown the same story with the temperature of 69, down from 74 in Madison. Winds from our northwest 3 mph and dew point values dank air 20° cooler than our actual air temperature. We will gladly take it, especially considering where we've been in recent days. Whether it was the heat, the humidity, the wildfire smoke. We've seen a lot of each and one of those over the last several days and weeks here. So, we'll take a brief break from the heat. So, northerly winds, they're not necessarily howling, maybe climbing as high as 10, maybe 15 mph on the high end, but that's enough to cool things off. Temperatures right now across the area anywhere between 5 to about 10° cooler than we were yesterday at the same time. If you're looking for something to do, Concerts on the Square kicks off this evening at 7:00. 71° at 7:00. By 6:00 9:00 p.m. I should say, 66° your temperature around then. So, things not necessarily feeling all that summer like this evening. You may want even a light sweatshirt by the time that event is getting done, mainly because of those winds will still be relatively strong at times. So, as we head into the overnight hours early tomorrow morning, we tumble back down to the mid to low 50s. A pretty decent start to the day tomorrow. Look at temperatures. If you want to get out and about, we jump up quickly. We go from the mid to low 50s tomorrow morning to about 2 to 3 hours later, 65° at 8:00.

[00:02:10]However, even though temperatures will be cooler tomorrow, make sure to have the sunscreen ready to go. UV index will be very high at 9 on that scale. And yes, you'll want that SPF 50 plus. Burn time is little as 15 minutes without that sunscreen. Higher pressure continues to kick gradually eastward throughout our overnight hours and early Thursday. What does that mean for us?

[00:02:32]Well, those winds out of the north, they shift gradually southward. And it's a combination of clear skies and southerly winds that will help drive temperatures gradually higher. I'm expecting afternoon highs in the mid to upper 70s tomorrow, topping out at 77 in Madison on Thursday. Tomorrow evening, nonetheless, still quite comfortable.

[00:02:50]Partially cloudy 76° at 6:00. By 7:00, right around 75. On Friday, we're warmer. 81 your high temperature. Plenty of sunshine still. Seeing temps below average for this time of the year.
