A 3:1 haul system, also known as a z-drag, provides mechanical advantage by routing the rope through a pulley system where the haul side carries all equipment (rope grab, capture device) while the pull side remains clear, allowing a single operator to lift or move heavy loads with reduced effort by pulling three times the distance the load moves.
